Good morning, welcome back the flu season is almost upon us and health that has experts are fearful that the flu combined with covid19 could overwhelm hospitals so theyre urging everyone to get a flu shot. Our washington dc correspondent Trevor Shirley reports on the challenge of can convincing everyone to get a vaccination. The cdc says the u. S. Will have around 200 million doses of flu vaccine available this year. Now Health Officials have to convince as many people as possible to get a flu shot is certainly safe. And its pretty effective doctor Georges Benjamin is the executive director of the American Public health association, he says usually only about 40 to 45 of americans get a flu shot and if we get that into the 70 range. That would do a whole lot just this week parents in massachusetts protested against mandatory flu shots for students. Its one example of the challenges Health Officials face this year. As they combat the flu and covid19 so happy really 2 big epidemics. That have similar symptoms as well as way would tax the whole system would be a real problem and to avoid that worst case scenario. Doctors are pleading with everyone who can to get a flu shot is a big National Effort to educate people about getting the influenza shot. Tv and internet ads like this are part of that education effort. The cdc also gave out a 140 Million Dollars to help states with their vaccine campaigns. And recommends everyone keep up with masks and washing and social distancing plus get your shot. The cdc also purchased almost 10 million doses of flu vaccine for uninsured adults and increase from the 500,000 doses it usually buys for that Group Reporting in washington, im Trevor Shirley. And the World Health Organization says at least 25 potential coronavirus vaccines are now undergoing human trials around the world. Of those 5 of them are in phase 3 and thats the most advanced stage of testing before a vaccine can reach the public. There have been no serious side effects so far with the coronavirus vaccines in phase 3. One problem though is that companies havent been able to recruit enough members of minority communities to volunteer for the study day. Marty were looking at current temperatures right now in the 70s off to the east bay before the sun has had time to really do much of anything 60s up to the north bay. I would be taking a look at your lofty temperatures coming up a little bit maybe welcome back to kron 4 morning news, good morning everybody and a continuation of the hot weekend that we talked about this is going to be the hottest in the bunch. It looks like tomorrow is going to be somewhat reminiscent of saturday, so still quite lofty we dont really start to break things down until tuesday but will be looking for some offshore winds at that point live shot coming in here from timber on way off towards the distance. Theres the golden gate up close and personal very clear view that weve had fog forget about it little bit of a breeze happening certainly a spare the air days thats another given probably will exist again for tomorrow as well 70s cover a lot of the east asia will notice these are current temperatures now 66 going on there as you can see were 68 for oakland, 60s also up to the north bay 73 for San Francisco, 55 Half Moon Bay, so they are getting some arena fact for now and 69 meanwhile for san jose. However, one of the things that happens with this high is you have a couple of factors in this case that are working perfectly to really cause these temperatures to pounce we have a very very strong High Pressure system. Also its an a located in the right little spots so its the falling youre right on top of us and its also warm air and by its nature when youre compressing air that warms it even further. And one last step here at the surface lack of winds. We go out to the afternoon. This is all we get this is after really the next heating of the day a little bit of an onshore drift happens today. Its more than yesterday. Then more expected for tomorrow. Still were going to have those are lofty temperatures this will be occurring late in the day and this is on shore at this point now but then were watching up may be potential for some offshore winds by the time we get to run tuesday and wednesday. So for this weekend, were still talk about the excessive heat warning here very hot today 100 plus for the bay and inland. Early next week. Going to be quite hot going on for monday. Then some minor relief by tuesday and wednesday just take the edge off. Then later on the week were looking for some relief happening high temperatures in the 80s by the time we finish off the week in the inland valleys that will be a nice nice little change or so for today to run through at 95 going on San Francisco oakland and 98 1 03 coming in for san jose you can see theres no relief happening at all we have San Francisco thats beyond 90 degrees like that and the key issue will be also the winds if we dont get a little bit of a drift that comes in from the coast or a little bit of an offshore when the trust to develop just very locally that can affect the high temperatures and we can go even beyond that as well across the board we have purple crayons which we hardly ever used the bay area 110 plus is expected for the inland valleys over the east bay hills but in the east bay shoreline, 100 plus to be found 98 for open, but one 05 hayward one oh one going on for freeman up here the north bay. Well beyond 100 expected today even Half Moon Bay checking in at 81 that really underscores the factor of a location, a community right on the beaches, not getting the impact from that cooler waters that are around 60 degrees or so lets take a quick look at that 7 day forecast because i want to show you the relief that is get full that less crowded here by wednesday looks like as we go into double digits, wow and then into the 80s we go as we finish off the week marty ok dave thanks a lot. Well turning now to wildfire coverage the excessive heat all this weekend is causing calfire to increase staffing. During this critical fire weather. The state you some helicopters to get a wide look at the fire and figure out the best way to find it. And we talked to cal fire to learn what makes this fire such a problem. Number of these lakes are places where people in Central Valley to get out of the heat to recreate so the number of people that were camping in the mammoth pools reservoir as un it just wasnt safe. But he had a number of vehicles on such narrow road to try to evacuate and so in in this case the sheriffs made the decision that was safer for them to shelter in place and assure storm continues on tour now evacuating those residents now the fire has burned through there. But it just from you know the footage seem to have this amount of smoke and for it to have gotten so large again is just telling of how dry conditions are and is really our concern going into the next several days because the same weather conditions are expected throughout much of Northern California and even in the bay area. Well Daniel Berlant says its still too early to know the cause of this fire but he also says the dry conditions here in california means it doesnt take much of a spark to ignite into a huge wildfire that you see there. So heres whats going on we have a hot dry that continues, this is probably the hottest day in this trio. The weve been talking about here. This excessive heat warning is still be in place tomorrow. But tomorrow it could be kind of a rerun more saturday today is really the big day were looking at inland highs, 101 15. For the bay. The on 95 approaching near one 10 but in the 100 plus range and even at the coast, youre lucky to get in the middle 70s. Well in the 80s. So thats why most the real estate is under excessive heat warning the oranges indicate the heat advisory thats in place that San Francisco in the coastal areas live shot coming in from the bay bridge toll plaza you will notice there winds at this hour, fairly calm going to stay that way we do see a little bit of a slight uptick that will happen after the high temperatures are achieved and some of the valleys up here in the north bay and off to the east bay, too temperatures were in the 70s for most of the east bay, some 60s here and there oakland 6868 for a little more valley and choi thats the best are going to do all day. 60s up to the north bay 69 for san jose and just keeping a running total whats going on here is more than half a dozen to near a dozen agrees ahead of where we were from yesterday which is one of the reasons why those temperatures will be so much hotter today because were starting off on such a warm note too so breaking your day down looks like about 95 by 11 by 2 were talking at one o 8. Coming up a little bit here well be checking it up 4 zone forecast see whats going on in your neck of the woods. Plus also another look at that extended party okay day, thanks a lot. Lets get back to our main story this morning, the extreme temperatures that have tempted people they had the barks. Beaches and lakes all trying to find some relief. The hot weather inspiring families to spend some Time Outdoors kron fours phillipe djegal reports from lake chabot where they were very busy all day long. A crowd was expected and the crowd showed up is great to be out here you feel safe in everyones just like kind of doing their own thing and doing so from a distance a day before the grass near the lake Chabot Regional Park marina in Castro Valley was essentially bear and on saturday, a different story families huddled up keeping to themselves oh love this weekend. So we didnt want to stay inside you on hold when had the same idea she wanted to paint with her friend but not indoors where they have to keep face coverings on the whole Time Outdoors they only covered up when close to other people. Its nice hike everyones kind of cooperating you know just were all we all want to like the outside but then everyones like okay, police acted like social distance and kind and i the east bay Regional Park district staff to for the Holiday Weekend to make sure the crowds caps 8th, most common areas were closed off to discourage picnicking and barbecuing even the restrooms were shut down the rental building was allowed and so was fishing but donald bren has says the fish were not biting into their first of all warmer now so fisher well davor them like takers hit the trails early in the morning to avoid the hottest hours of the day billy wolfe and his partner walked a ninemile says pretty warm and were looking forward to a swimming pool, maybe this afternoon sounds like a great idea in Castro Valley police should all run for news. Health experts warn that this Holiday Weekend could result in a major uptick in covid19 cases. As infection shot up in some places following memorial day and the 4th of july that despite warnings about the dangers of big social gatherings. But a lot of people are seemingly ignoring the safety precautions. The eus labor day as a way to take the day off but unfortunately of the virus doesnt. We dont want to go into that with another surge that we have to turn around again. So it really is an important weekend. More than 188,000 people in the u. S. Have died from covid19 and now key research thats often cited by top Health Officials predicts more than 410,000 coronavirus deaths in the u. S. By january. Theres a new studies that suggest that people recovering from covid19 wait several months before the exercise again. A study of 100 adults found that nearly 80 of them had structural changes to their hearts. 6 in 10 were found to have inflammation of the heart muscle which can be fatal. When you factor in exercise which also can a heart that has many doctors concerned the study recommends anyone whos recovered from covid19 symptoms to undergo a cardiac mri. So potential information can be found and the advised to wait at least 6 months after recovering from covid19 before getting back into a rigorous exercise routine. Turning to politics this morning democratic Vice President president ial nominee Kamala Harris says that she wouldnt trust a covid19 vaccine based on President Trumps word alone now those comments are all part of a cnn interview that was released yesterday. Senator harris says shes concerned that the white house is putting pressure on the fda to rush the vaccine process. Do you trust that in the situation where were in now that the public Health Experts and scientists will get the last word on the efficacy of the vaccine if past is pro law that they will not theyll be muscled theyll be suppressed. They will be sidelined because hes looking at election coming up in less than 60 days. And hes grasping for whatever he can get to pretend that hes been a leader on this issue and is not so lets just say theres a vaccine that is approved and even distributed before the election. Would you get. I think thats going to be an issue for all of i will say that i would not trust donald trump. And it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the the efficacy and the and the reliability of whatever hes talking about i will not take his word for it he wants us to inject well Health Experts say that its critical of the fda does not rush the approval process to the point. Where the public does not trust the fda. Instead researchers need to prove any vaccine work safely and effectively so the public will be willing to take it. Fda Vaccine Advisory Committee member doctor paul offit is speaking out about politics when the fda Decision Making on a vaccine. He says if that happens that would be bad news. The fda is not an independent group they are part of hhs health and Human Services which is part of the executive branch can they be politicized. Yes theyve been politicized with hydroxychloroquinn decision theyve been plus politicize convalescent plasma decision so thats what makes people word. Well the World Health Organization says at least 25 potential coronavirus vaccines are now undergoing human trials around the world of those as we mentioned 5 of them are in phase 3. Thats the most advanced stage of testing before a vaccine reaches the public. Coming up this morning the areas you know saw triple digit heat this weekend were finding out how some people are choosing to pull off. And how officials are good morning welcome back officials in santa cruz in other parts of the bay area say they want to keep the crowds down this Holiday Weekend. Theyre also trying to follow figure out how to follow Health Visitors and residents can keep safe from lingering wildfire smoke. Phil gomez is in santa cruz, he has more on that. Because of safety concerns with the czu fire and the pandemic the city and counties are rolling up the welcome mat and asking tourists to remain in their own counties. So this is our last hurrah before School Started and we wanted to come before the weekends to beat the rush of people who would be coming for labor day city and county leaders were concerned with the jump in covid19 cases they took action to close state. County and local beaches to avoid large groups of people gathering Law Enforcement for all agencies have a plan or were doing is setting up barricades and then also having people educate. From park and rec staff will be here to educate people and then well have officers on the beach doing enforcement visitors can cross the sand for Water Activities the county is also asking hotels and motels to give czu lightning fire victims. First crack at available rooms rather than tourists and were asking hotel owners to please a comedy those evacuees whenever possible. And wherever possible and make a local. Individuals a priority over the visitors from out of town in santa cruz and the county Public Access is only from 48 pm in capital it is 6 to 8 in the evening. Law enforcement will be out in mass but rather than site theyd rather educate but fines will be stiff. At 1000. In santa cruz still going. In the space 60s up to the north bay. And 59 Half Moon Bay gets the gold star for being the cool spot theyre not for long going to look at your 4 and welcome back to kron 4 morning news, good morning everybody in live shot coming in from sfo course no delays going on for this morning, lets get right to it look at those current temperatures for you a lot of 70s covering the east bay 60s up to the north bay. 59 Half Moon Bay, lets look at our for a moment here how about thats pretty nice not going to stick around for a long the 69 meanwhile for san jose i want to jump to the moisture part of the program here just briefly obviously the air has been kind of dry and it will remain that way heres how it drops off this afternoon of these are pretty low numbers and we usually use this run through when were talking about fire problems but when underscores this is as with the dry air thats in place you could be losing a lot of water even if you dont feel it and you dont notice it. So keep the water flowing, you definitely need to stay cool. But beyond that to these numbers are a little bit artificially low because their relative humidity when you have high temperatures. The air can support a lot more water in it. So it doesnt necessarily mean the air is much drier than we sometimes look at that by comparison of hot. It is thats why the relative humidity levels are so low theres the overnight recovery if you want to call it that and shes he 5 in the morning. And we get into tomorrow afternoon same deal again dropping off well in the 20s. Now we start looking more carefully as we go from monday on work because there is the concern up in Solano County we might be having a fire weather watch situation here with some potential offshore winds there so thats going to be after the high weakens and starts to allow winds to go on right now the winds are pretty much been cut off. So look at temperatures across the state today. A lot of those interior areas are pretty much one 15 to one 20 zone. They could bounce either way there. One 16 going on for fresno is an estimation. One 12 for a sacramento won 12 also bakersfield central coast. 80s and 90s san diego to one 04 but again as we keep saying particularly a coastal locations, a lot depends on winds. This assumes a certain amount of a light breeze or not at all. If you get a little winds that can crack that wont get that high 95 meanwhile for l a x again, a wind issue 83 at the big bear which is actually still kind of pleasant with these numbers, 95 in the 4 zone forecast covers up for San Francisco, 86 for Marina District. Well do a tease out to the coast here Half Moon Bay, they raced to about 81 for a high. Of course the bayside as warmer 90s to be found here 94 burlingame and look how crowded it gets in the southern end of the peninsula, one oh one redwood city, san carlos one 04. Foster city 99. Theyre also Mountain View and one 05 for palo alto in the south bay. We have 100 plus to be found one 11 from morgan hill, one 09 los gatos one 03 san jose, one 07 for cupertino east bay shoreline to the south 100 plus tri valley, one 11 for Pleasanton Livermore one 15 heading walnut creek one 13 conquered at one 1498 oakland, san leandro one 07. This is a personal issue takes was back to being palm springs of these kind of come for statement today, its deja vu or something one 10 for fairfield 99 delay how even this is again the wind issue because if we get a little bit of a breeze from the bay boom thats going to be busted one of 6 going on for now but want to wait sonoma. Going on for santa rosa and 100 plus through Southern Marine stenson beach, 75. Again this is the zenith our heat wave tomorrow sounds more like saturday and then Going Forward we see the waves start to crack through the 90s we fly in down to the 80s by the time we finish off the week marty ok dave thank you. Well new this morning were getting a peek at the upcoming book from former fixer for President Trump Michael Cohen. Well now. Anita hill says she will vote for biden cnns gore Gloria Borger a spoke with hill and biden about their shared history. Professor do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you god. Was it scary. Ellos terrify he would call me into a soft its been nearly 30 years since anita hill testified before a now Infamous Senate judiciary hearing led by joe biden you lay out she has come to a surprising conclusion would you like to see elected in november. I think joe biden is a person who should be elected in november and thats not all would you be willing to work with him. Oh yes, my commitment is to finding solutions and i am more than willing to work with him i was very uncomfortable with the ideal became a household name testifying before the allmale committee during the Supreme Court confirmation of Clarence Thomas judge thomas began to use work situations to discuss. Hill claimed thomas sexually harassed her when she worked for him at the equal Employment Opportunity commission. Thomas vehemently denied those accusations as a black american as far as im concerned it is a hightech lynching. He was confirmed to the Supreme Court after biden led the fight against him some say let the republicans can a takeover i dont think i did but the point was i wish i could have done it differently under the rules. In early 2019 just weeks before joe biden launched his campaign for president. Hill got a phone call. I have apologized to need to tell the could have done better for her. The truth is i believe her and i believed he should not be in the court. You called the phone call on satisfying it didnt take responsibility he didnt hold himself accountable. And anyway except that he was sorry that i felt i wasnt treated fairly. But hill says shes been watching the selection closely and biden seems to be taking more responsibility now for her thats enough. This is not just about me. Its not just about joe biden its about millions of people in this country and around the world that we can be a model for and i would love to be a part of that and if it means voting for joe biden so be it. Remember this is now so these are highs, breaking it down for your talking 95 by 11 by 2 at one 08. And serena is husband and daughter olympia were both on hand to cheer her on and captures a cameras captured this touching moment, a mom and daughter wave, you need each other after the match, after the match williams said the libya was really playing with her doll that im probably had no idea why mom was so excited to win. Well still ahead the next hour, the kron 4 morning news, the heat wave in the bay area continues were going to take a look at how people are trying to stay cool. And more possible power shutoffs in store because of that heat wave will let you know what it will take for pg need to say theyll flip the switch and at the same time the threat of another spike in covid19 still looming over the Holiday Weekend were going to hear from Health Officials about what is and isnt safe. Youre watching at home. Morning news. Good morning everybody, thank you so much for joining us on the kron 4 morning news at sunday september 6th im Marty Gonzales and were into day 2 now the extreme heat wave for the bay area this Labor Day Weekend. Its also another spare the air day. We have a lot to talk about weather wise and were going to turn todays florida get all of that high day. Ok lets speaking to mardy good morning and good morning, wall we have a big time temperatures talking about today. Before the Labor Day Weekend it continues very familiar just to run home the point here, excessive heat warning or you see all the purples were talking numbers i these a little bit 101 15 inland. They is talking about mid 90s if youre lucky. Beyond and at the coast mid 70s as a floor up to the mid 80s, potentially and by the way excessive heated or a heat advisory covers San Francisco, the coast of the peninsula. And the north bay peninsula like point re and so forth. For the Golden Gate Bridge there you see it off to the distance a little bit of a breeze to check in this morning thats kind of know where the a little bit however coming in from a northeasterly direction doesnt help as much as it is from an onshore during general direction 70s blanket all of the east bay for now already 73 for oakland 77 for hayward weve got 60s 70s up to the north bay, 73 san jose in also for San Francisco, 59 though Half Moon Bay still hanging on. So we have close to a dozen degrees i head of what we were this time from yesterday in some selective spots thats one of the reasons why todays going to be hotter were already starting off on a warmer basis. The High Pressure has actually intensified a little bit from yesterday so all of these factors mean got to edge up those temperatures. For today, 100 or so at the counter or 3 oclock were talking one 10 a look at your forecast coming up in a bit marty oh man all right dave thanks. I understand youre just the messenger thanks a lot. Well, the first night of a statewide flex alert is over without any rolling blackouts in the bay area but theres a new threat. Of power shutoffs that still possible in the days ahead kron fours reyna harvey has more on that from whats going to be a toasty walnut creek high rain. Marty good morning out here in walnut creek in for a lot of families say its the Holiday Weekends a lot of people were expected. Coming to downtown area and have something to eat with their family now they have to worry about the potential of losing power yet again so pga officials are looking at some things are looking at the weather. Theyre looking at a wind condition, theyre monitoring currently also the strong conditions to make a determination as to whether or not theyre going to have to shut off power theyre saying from tuesday to wednesday. Theres a Public Safety power shutoff watch. And in addition to that they got 17 counties that one up on the list to out the state and youll see all right there 2 of them here in the bay area napa and sonoma counties are on that list but just because those are the only 2 that made it on the list it doesnt mean youre going to see other areas including here won a creek that cannot be affected potentially by power shutoffs because of the weather and all of that so ive been able to talk to some residents who live out here in the area and they tell me how they feel about the heat and also the power potentially being turned off take a listen. And sure enough the powers everybody just has to conserve energy and we have to Work Together to make this time work so that theyll be electricity available for air conditioning and all the other essential services for the people that need it. I could agree with that i can also wonder if you know. Things could be managed better this doesnt have to happen. I dont i dont know for sure. I so you know a lot of people i dont really know for sure back out here live just want to show you guys that if you can see them there are people out here really making the most of the Cool Conditions right now out here walking their dogs and running so that some people have been doing all morning so pg and e says there are a few things you can do if you do want to take matters into your own hands, you can keep your thermostat set to about 78 degrees in addition to that you can put off using those heavy appliances, his every little bit of action helps people out so again marty were going to be on watch today and ill be bringing you more information coming up in the next hour over now reporting out here wanna creek reyna harvey. Kron 4 news all right rain and do your best to try and stay cool out there its going to warm up quite a bit thanks a lot for that live report from walnut creek. The crowds took over open space at dolores park in San Francisco saturday all of them trying to get outside and beat the heat officials though still preaching social distancing and maskwearing when everyones outside kron fours dan thorn reports on how many people are bade or did and obey the rules. San Francisco Sun seekers had to dolores park is the he settles into the city for those not catching the rays. It was a mission to find fresh air in the shade its pretty hot outside this in some areas social distancing seem to be a challenge clusters of people were packed tightly together and masks were not being worn, but parkgoers tell us they feel like the majority were following the rules honestly, everyone they feel is socially distancing and we are. And you have the circles on the ground, so i feel like everythings pretty safe even like love life and a large happy i everybody have their masks you know like the painted social distancing circles and the newly installed hearts continued to be a hit and for those that didnt have masks park rangers were handing them out even in the time of covid19 some parkgoers say outside is better than inside ive been here pretty often and i havent gotten it yet so. Hoping for the reporting at dolores park dan thorn kron 4 news. And now we want to give you the latest look at the covid19 numbers around the world are now more than 26 million cases in the u. S. Now despite the growing number of businesses in the bay area continue to reopen on tuesday. The state will re evaluate the terror designation for each county. Now lets take a look right now where each bay area county stands on that heres system all bay area counties except for 2 or showing widespread infection thats the purple you see on the map. San francisco in napa county showing substantial widespread infection thats the pink and as the continue on the to improve on that your system more businesses will be allowed to reopen but each countys Health Department has the final word on that. A number of beaches in the bay area remain closed for the Labor Day Weekend the closures are an effort to prevent large gatherings during the pandemic all beaches in pacifica closed until Tuesday Morning. The beaches in Santa Cruz County in monterey bay closed for much of the day theyre only open from 4 until 8 oclock in the evening. Lake berryessa in napa county remains closed today and tomorrow beaches are open in marin county in Half Moon Bay. But both are asking visitors to stay away now you can find a complete list of beach closures. On our website at kron 4 dot com. And still ahead this morning take a look at this video some terrifying moments caught on camera. And some hikers in the fresno area were flynn a fire. And in the gold country El Dorado County restaurant remaining open for Indoor Dining for months to find state orders after the break. Well show you the confrontation between the owners of the restaurant and cal osha that was caught on camera. And well take another look at those high temperatures around the bay area today they are extreme and they are dangerous as well so try to stay its totally normal to have constipation with belly pain, straining, and bloating, again and again. No way. More exercise. More water. And more fiber is the only way to manage it. Is it . Maybe you think. Its occasional constipation. Maybe its not. It could be a chronic medical condition called ibsc, and time to say yesss to linzess. Linzess works differently than laxatives. It helps relieve belly pain and lets you have more frequent and complete bowel movements. Do not give linzess to children less than six and it should not be given to children six to less than 18, it may harm them. Do not take linzess if you have a bowel blockage. Get immediate help if you develop unusual or severe stomach pain, especially with bloody or black stools. The most common side effect is diarrhea, sometimes severe. If its severe, stop taking linzess and call your doctor right away. Other side effects include gas, stomach area pain, and swelling. Change your thinking to ibsc. If your constipation and belly pain keeps coming back, tell your doctor and say yesss to linzess. Good morning, welcome back a Restaurant Owner in the gold country recently got into a confrontation with state inspectors. After he defied state orders and allowed customers to dine indoors. Melissa perlman has more now from plaster ville. Its no secret that the appleby structure and possible has been defying state orders for months at one point posting signs outside the restaurant that customers dont need to wear masks to dine inside since then theyve gotten in trouble with the county. But this is the first time cal osha has shown up to serve an inspection. You guys will have to kill us. The owners of apple be struck going toe to toe with inspectors from cal osha and Highway Patrol officers telling them to get off their property thats the state. The video taken by Mandy Rodriguez from the reopen Eldorado County shes been a supporter of the restaurant stance on staying open him inside and i just started recording right away the video shows cal osha leaders telling the owners of the cafe they have a from a judge to do inspections chp tells us officers were there on safety stand by assisting the osha inspectors, but the owners did i both agencies entry people known for their cars to take their rights thats what it comes down to the restaurant was slapped with orders taking a Wake County Health permits ordered to comply with covid19 restrictions or close and still they stayed open. But rodriguez says the restaurant hasnt seen state inspectors at the restaurant in 2 and a half years so we ask hello show why they visited the restaurant now they said the visit was part of a task force created by the governor to stop the spread of covid19 at whole businesses who endanger Public Health and safety accountable. Cal osha didnt respond when we asked why this was the first visit months into the pandemic the video shows both chp and cal osha leaving no inspection is done its not clear if either agency will be back by officers have a great day, the owners of this restaurant didnt want to speak with us on camera about the confrontation, but Mandy Rodriguez says no matter what happens they have no plans to shut their doors even if El Dorado County is put back on the watch list. Be confident to and through retirement. Welcome back to kron 4 morning news, good morning everybody and the rights show that we have in the Golden Gate Bridge here forget about fog going on with this High Pressure in place but a bit of a interesting offshore wind from this Vantage Point the flag flapping in this general direction, although the wind patterns are showing it. We we onshore drift that we have most the readings are in the 70s but antioxidant waiting 83 now santa rosa meanwhile, 6772 napa 7 in a bottle, 74 in San Francisco, 59, Half Moon Bay enjoy. And 73 going on for san jose. So its the High Pressure thats basically in the right spot. So we dont get a lot of surface circulation. One on the air above us is hot the high is a little stronger than it was last go around. And to add to that you have a falling air so we have all the elements to give us maximum heating going on for today so temperatures are kind of a guest today depending on if you get a little bit of a surface breeze in the right direction it could bust the forecast highs and the cole direction it becomes another direction from say a little bit of a land breeze. Well forget about it the so lets go for with those winds. We have a little drift on shore. But this is very weak and its after high temperatures will be achieved we get a little bit of a breeze like that occurring at around noon that would probably challenge the highs but will be too late the day to really do is too much good. But im going well take it then it starts to change a little bit later on its a little bit more amplified because the high is now weakening a little bit moving to the west so its allowing surface winds the onshore winds to start to kick in what were concerned about now as we get into tuesday wednesday zone is a bit of an offshore wind starting to develop thats going to be fire weather talking all of that thats the next chapter to talk about live shot coming in from the bay bridge toll plaza so today again we continue with excessive heat warning that around tomorrow too by the way very hot today with 100 plus going on for the bay as well as inland early into the next week. Monday still much the same as cultlike saturday, but its tuesday wednesday, well get some slight relief and all of that and then much better relief later in the week, well have some 80s going on in land today or im sorry this week coming up by the time we get around thursday but picking friday and into saturday. But for today 95 San Francisco, 98 going on for oakland, one 03 san jose across the wider bay, its one 10 plus to be filed. But even the east excuse me east bay shoreline will be treated to over 100 degree temperatures. One 03 meanwhile for san jose. And places like Half Moon Bay about 81 again very critical if you do get any wind breeze at all from the coast. That will challenge that high todays hopefully you will get that well check in your 4 zone forecast coming up a bit as well as that extended with relief package in there marty all right lee sounds great. Thank you. Well turning to our wild coverage of wildfire coverage now the excessive heat this weekend is causing calfire to increase staffing during this critical fire weather. Crews are continuing though to make progress on the wildfires that are burning here in the bay area. The lnu lightning complex fire in the north bay currently at 89 containment, though its burned some 375,000 acres. The scu complex fire in the east and south bay is up to 88 containment. But almost 400,000 acres have burned and containment is up to 68 in the czu lightning complex fires in san mateo and Santa Cruz County. Those fires have burned more than 86,000 acres now you can find the latest on the wildfire information also reports and other information as well on our website at kron 4 dot com. He just kind of. Hope. You can just see how terrifying but all too familiar that scene was this is a video some hikers near fresno as they tried to flee the rapidly growing creek fire now that fast those fastmoving flames forced more than 150 campers of Mammoth Lakes to shelter in place last night, the fire of the creek fire burning now in the Sierra National forest thats east of fresno and its really exploded in size it sparked on friday night and since then its grown to about 36,000 acres have been burned. The county sheriff says the fire also cut off the only available escape route and that trapped about 150 people in place overnight so far about a 100 of them have been airlifted out of the area, several of them in the hospital this morning with a variety of injuries, including some listed in Critical Condition. Now the state use of helicopters to get up above the flames and get a wide look at the fire invest way to attack it and we talked to cal fire to learn what makes this fire such a problem. Number of these lakes are places where people in Central Valley go on to get out of the heat to recreate so number of people that were camping in the mammoth pools reservoir as un it just wasnt safe. But he had a number of vehicles on such narrow road to try to evacuate and so in in this case the sheriffs were made the decision that was safer for them to shelter in place and assure storm continues on tour now evacuating those residents now the fire has burned through there. But it just from you know the footage they are seen to have this amount of smoke and for it to have gotten so large again is just telling of how dry conditions are and is really our concern going into the next several days because the same weather conditions are expected throughout much of Northern California and even in the bay area. Well burt lance says its still too early to know the cause of the fire but he also says the dry conditions here in california means it doesnt take much for any spark to ignite into a huge wildfire. The Santa Rosa Fire Department is helping out in this firefight. Still ahead this morning activists demanding justice for Briana Taylor well see how demonstrators aim to shift attention. And it was an upset this years 100 46th annual Kentucky Derby as authentic beat out the favorite tiz the law. The odds were 8 to one out the knicks trainer has worked with the thoroughbreds to win the triple crown and because of the coronavirus pandemic the derby took place later in the year than usual. And of course, no fans in the stands. The Kentucky Derby of course one of kentuckys most treasured as well as in the u. S. But this year many people were watching what was going on before saturdays race as protesters ga3hered outside of Churchill Downs calling for justice for taylor, brad conway reports organizers and bring on his mom say that this protest wont be the last. Improbable is picking through the pack making a bold run up to be fit to keep their view is super bowl here in louisville, kentucky. But this year instead of fans inside Churchill Downs. The stands were quiet outside though was anything but. This kind of platform and with this kind of megaphone but we cant really blast our message to the rest of the world they want justice for Breonna Taylor. Who was shot and killed by Louisville Police nearly 6 months ago. Well they were executing a no knock search warrant. I just cant understand for the life of me. Why its taken so long. Timothy finley is the founder of the justice and Freedom Coalition, just one of several groups who came out in numbers to protest ahead of the race and we want police chase Police Accountability what the police chief and rush there were counter protesters there too including a selfdescribed white militia. And police were out in full force breaking up some heated confrontations between protesters and counterprotesters they can do what they want to do the 3 but for us were focused were not distracted. Were going continue to call for justice. I think theyll now be protests every day and so just as a side. Im britt conway reporting. And coming up on the kron 4 morning news. Were heading in further into the Labor Day Weekend and officials are pleading with everyone not to make the same mistakes as previous holidays during the pandemic. And later today tune in for a special encore presentation of the raiders last afc championship win that was in 2002 against the Tennessee Titans all the action at 1 oclock right here on kron 4. Good morning, everybody welcome back to the kron 4 morning news. Were focusing on yet another very hot day around the bay, this is going to be the hottest. Day of the weekends we take this live look outside this is from sutro camera looking San Francisco you can see why its yet. Another spare the air day for the bay areas we have well really lousy air quality around the bay thats a scientific term by the way dave allows the air quality hot temperatures as well dave is here with more on that. Yeah you just nailed or thing its in its the scenario with this this bad air that much marty was just showing you. Thats because this high doesnt allow the surface circulation, not that we had great air before that nice circulation going on at this completely shuts it down. So we dont get the natural microclimate cooling so we might as well take the bay area and punk in iowa, or Something Like that one exception the immediate coast just not getting that impacts so for today, the excessive heat warning thats the purple you see inland highs. Well beyond 100 the bay is talking about mid 90s you might get lucky along the east bay shoreline in some select a spots but even there will be locations beyond 100. The coast, 75 is a floor not a ceiling for temperatures going on into the 80s thats your oranges by the way and that is a heat advisory. But this is going to be around tomorrow too but as marty was saying this is the and the bunch here looks like live shot coming in from the bay bridge toll plaza with the sun joining us up over the east bay hills, one of the issues that happened overnight was we didnt cool off much temperatures were retained that waste we start off a little bit higher on a higher level build on that and high temperatures are going to temperatures stand 70s for a lot of the east bay 83, antioch up to the north bay 70s and 60s 76 San Francisco, Half Moon Bays catching up now 63, 73 meanwhile for san jose there you have the east bay shoreline well in the 70s as youll notice and yes, were much ahead of where we were this time from yesterday in some cases approaching a dozen degrees ahead, so have all the elements in place for a hot day 100 will do about high noon. 3 oclock one 10 and some select the spots were going to get into your 4 zone forecast and that extended and just a bit party all right dave thanks a lot want to continue to talk about the extreme temperatures around the bay has attempted a lot of people. To head to parts of beaches and lakes to try and find some relief. The east bay Regional Park district increase staffing for the Holiday Weekend to make sure that everyone stayed safe. Most common areas were closed off to discourage picnicking and barbecuing and big crowds. Even the restrooms were closed as well rental boating was allowed so is fishing but one fisherman Donald Brennan says the fish were just not biting. If you really see it being here, especially seeing and theyre being really cautious about everything so got to see the year there are a lot of people and we keep our masks on and on doesnt do that is it wasnt it was very pleasant out there i dont think theres ever this crowd are we pulled up the story by 30 in the parking lot was us. Qadri a department how mild the road. Well the east bay Regional Park district will continue to monitor the traffic of visitors throughout the Holiday Weekend. A key model often cited by top Health Officials is predicting now more than 410 coronavirus 410,000 rather coronavirus deaths in the u. S. By january that projection comes as Many Americans are heading to the beaches lakes and barbecues for the last long weekend of the summer. Experts are warning that similar holidays earlier this year showed that they can be a perfect storm for spreading coronavirus tom foreman has more. Brace yourself for more super spreader event thats the warning from Health Officials who fear with millions traveling over the Labor Day Holiday the pandemic could spike just as we enter for when the flu and other illnesses may come into play we use labor day as a way to take the day off but unfortunately of the virus doesnt. We dont want to go into that with another surge that we have to turn around again. So it really is an important weekend. Infection shot up in some places after memorial day and the 4th of july to despite warnings against big social gatherings. Like that motorcycle rally in south dakota, which produced dozens of cases private parties in many places and numerous family events like the wedding reception earlier this year that left a new jersey woman and 3 of her children dead for all that President Trump keeps mocking joe biden for wearing a mask did you have to see a man that likes a mask as much as still Health Experts say imagine an outdoor barbecue, the medical journal bmj created this chart showing if you attend an event like that for a short time with a mask, your risk could be relatively low depending on whether people are silent talking or shouting and singing. Stay longer it gets worse take off your mask a while were still and without a mask for a long time the risk explodes especially if the party moves indoors. So images like these are raising alarm bells hundreds of students at iowa state seemingly ignoring safety precautions. Are you guys concerned about coronavirus all enough. I personally think its a hoax really i dont think its a hoax but i think that. And they think if i were to get it. I survived that is the attitude driving yet another warning this holiday from Health Experts watching College Students on campuses everywhere. Putting them on airplanes in fact you know and sending them home during their parents doesnt make sense. That was tom foreman reporting for us this morning, theres a new study that suggests that people recovering from covid19 wait several months before they begin exercising again. A study of 100 adults found nearly 80 of them had structural changes to their hearts. 6 in 10 were found to have inflammation of the heart muscle which can be fatal. When you factor in exercise which can stress a heart that all together has many doctors concerned the study recommends anyone whos recovered from covid19 symptoms to undergo a cardiac mri. So potential information can be found and theyre advising to wait at least 6 months after recovering from covid to before you get back into a rigorous exercise routine. Your health this morning, the recent death of Actor Chadwick Boseman has a lot of people wondering about the dangers of colon cancer. Colorectal cancer is the second deadliest cancer in the u. S. For men and women combined numerous studies link lifestyle to colon cancer and death rates are 40 higher for African Americans than any other ethnic group our Health Expert karen o lock is here this morning to talk more about this disease and how to lower your risk and karen i understand this is one of the more deadly cancers but ironically, its also one of the most preventable. Thats right marty and of all the cancers Colorectal Cancer is one of the cancers that can be detected in the early stages, but the problem is that test which is a colonoscopy is not something that people like to do so a lot of people are not taking the test. Theres a lot of stigma behind the skippy because its so invasive and just the idea of one right. And some people that just dont even like the word wrecked him and much less than having something probe up to arrest them. Yeah, so they are really embarrassed by it as well as a little scared, so they choose to opt out altogether which can have deadly results. I understand that african are at a higher not only a higher risk but also a large number of African Americans for whatever reason choose not to get a test. Right there is a higher with of with African Americans, science so theyre theyre looking at to see if theres any molecular mechanism newsom that is associated with that high with a do you see is that they dont schedule. They just dont want to schedule the colonoscopy as well as their lifestyle is a little bit different. Theyre seeing more. Tobacco use in that ethnic group as well our obesity less physical activity as well as plant foods that contain vitamin c and vitamin e. One thing were also recognizing as well is that the American Cancer Society is now. Saying that you should start getting tested at the age of 45 the standard always been at 50 and for anyone who has colon cancer in their Family History of colon cancer in their family they should get tested even at a younger age. Right if you have a Family Member youre risk is 2 to 3 times higher. If you have a Family Member who has a who was younger when they were diagnosed you risk of the that type of cancer is 3 to 6 times higher definitely and then as far as African Americans because of the risk is higher. Theyre recommending 45 years at at them at the maximum this when you should get your test. One thing that you started to touch on lets get into that a little bit deeper and that is some of the causes you say that lifestyle factors really play a large cars into this. Right physical inactivity deafening and you know were always talking about being more active. The the foods that people eat. Theyre seeing a connection between meet in particular and its not so much the meat that is causing the cancer. But it is the bile acids that your body produces to break down those animal fats, were looking at our screen right now and it says especially fatty cuts of beef pork and lamb as well as deli meats as well. Yes, definitely and then and then the large you know things like and some of those big goods that you still use a lot of shortening in lard in their foods. So. Its set those bile acids bile acids or your bodys degree sir. So the more you eat the more bile acids youre going to produce and secrete into your your body so those bile acids are the ones that they see as potentially cancer causing so what are what are some Lifestyle Changes that people who are in that age group of people who are worried about the should be making. So definitely less meat so try limit your me to maybe once a week you know in a serving is 3 ounces. They found that people that. That are plant eaters fair that those second terry a bile acids they have a 70 less of those file assets in their gut compared to meat eaters so if youre going to start eating more plant foods you know try and set to to your your more plant based proteins like beans your diet instead of the the meat also they found that fully folate things are high in folate. Which are your leafy greens. Then the research is showing that that also help reduce those abnormal cell activity in your gut and were talking really trying to increase that and were talking vegetables such as swiss chard or kale. Were talking about the leafy greens right exactly does think green leafy try to get those in at least one to 2 times a day so those nice big salad and also the vitamin vitamin c is really important they found well first of green red peppers red peppers and 3 times the vitamin c of an orange and then also include the vitamin e which is you know things like youre on mans and Sunflower Seeds real quickly before we go what is the link between Alcohol Consumption and Colorectal Cancer. They found that people and have a drink 2 to 4. Alcoholic drinks a day their risk of colon cancer was 23 higher than those that did not okay. Karen thank you so much for that information is especially timely well and coming up in the next hour, the kron 00 04am morning news, the heat wave continues across the bay area were going to take a look at how people are trying to stay cool. And then more possible power shut off in store because of the heat wave will take a look at what it will take for pg need to flip the switch. Everybody, thank you so much for joining us on the kron 00 04am morning news, its a sunday september 6th im Marty Gonzales and im noelle bellow it is 09 00am already pretty warm across the bay area how we are heading into another day of extreme heat has time to check in with dave spahr take a look at exactly how hot its going to get dates. Ok marty know al good morning, good morning, everybody and what weve got going on as excessive heat warning again covering most of the geography we see the purples going on which is almost everybody. The orange is by the way thats next heat advisory. But were talking about inland temperatures well beyond 100 for the bay around 95 to one o 8 at the coast will be lucky to get 75 thats kind of floor up to potentially into the lower 80s live shot coming in from the Golden Gate Bridge not much of a breeze this morning. We expect a little bit of an offshore wind to try to develop potentially as we get to tuesday wednesday that were really watching. This is the current temperatures 80s off to any aac also conquered. Hey were checking in at 81 up to the north bay 84 napa 77 for San Francisco and also san jose. This is part of the problem because were so much warmer this morning. Were starting off a little bit of a higher level, even a dozen degrees or better as you can see on the map from where we were 24 hours ago. So the breakdown for us puts us at one 05 by one at 4 oclock one 12 potentially look at your forecast coming up in a bit. Back to you ok dave thanks a lot. Well, the first night of a statewide flex alert passed through the bay area without any rolling blackouts but theres still the threat of power shutoffs that still looming in the days ahead thats right kron fours reyna harvey is live in walnut creek reyna what is it feeling like out there this morning. Martin o well is filling ha have already started to sweat a little bit out here at the dam my face down a little bit. A lot of people are out here enjoying a popular restaurants like this coffee shop right here and then youve got the group of people who are out walking and running and walking dogs take a look these are people out here but they also have the potential threat. Power being shutoff so theyre trying to get everything done Grocery Shopping all that exercise in before any of that happens now in addition to all of these other things. Theres also the potential threat of wind. Weve got those fires that have been burning throughout the state of california and so now pg and e and state officials are looking at that theyre monitoring that to make sure i see that another shot of our power not saying what you can do at home you can keep your thermostat that is steady level at about 78 you can also put off using heavy appliances. In the meantime now in addition to pg and e putting in place a Public Safety power shut off watch thats in effect tuesday through wednesday. We talked to some people out here and heres what they had to say about those planned power outages. Well theres nothing they can do i mean until the build more power plants or clean up the forest. So the fires dont threaten everybody weve got a lot of smoke in the air right now from the fires i think would be helpful to a do a little force management. It happens every summer. So this is not like this is a big surprise. All right so out here long at creek you can steal smell the smoke from the fires that are burning all across the bay area so the air quality has been affected in regards to that its not 77 degrees out here right now that promise you it feels like its even warm. I just looked at that excessive heat warning it supposed to one of its most to get into the triple digits, but a 111 martin well hopefully i will be gone by the dime that happens for now reporting on here walnut creek Reyna Harvey Kron 4 news all right, thanks arena. Well crowds took over the open space at dolores park in San Francisco saturday, all of them trying to beat the heat. Officials though still having to preach social distancing and maskwearing when people go outside kron fours dan thorn reports on how many people obeyed the rules. San Francisco Sun seekers had the park is the heat settles into the city for those not catching the rays. It was a mission to find fresh air in the shade its pretty hot outside this in some areas social distancing seem to be a challenge clusters of people were packed tightly together and masks were not being worn, but parkgoers tell us they feel like the majority were following the rules honestly, everyone they feel is socially distancing. I we are. And you have the circles on the ground, so i feel like everythings pretty safe even like a like that the large happy i everybody have their masks you know like there. The painted social distancing circles and the newly installed hearts continued to be a hit and for those that didnt have masks park rangers were handing them out even in the time of covid19 some parkgoers say outside is better than inside ive been here pretty often and i havent gotten it yet so. Hoping for the reporting at dolores park dan thorn kron 4 news. All right well, heres a look at the latest covid19 numbers, globally there are more than 26 million cases here in the u. S. There are more than 6. 2 million cases, california continues to lead the country with more than 735,000 reported cases and in the bay area. There are more than 87,000 cases close to 1200 deaths. Now despite case numbers growing businesses in the bay area do continue to reopen on tuesday. The state will re evaluate the terror designation for each county, this is all a current look at where each bay area county stands on that tier system right now all of the counties except 2 are showing widespread infection thats that purple color, San Francisco and napa counties showing substantial widespread infection as counties improve on that your system or businesses are allowed to reopen but each countys Health Department has the final word on that. Well a number of beaches in the bay area are closed for the Labor Day Weekend and those closures are an effort to try and prevent large gatherings during the pandemic all beaches in pacifica are closed until Tuesday Morning the beaches in Santa Cruz County in monterey bay are closed for much of the day a little only be open from 4 until 8 oclock in the evening in napa county Lake Berryessa is closed now the beaches are open in marin county in Half Moon Bay, but both of those are asking visitors to stay away. O coming up on the kron 00 04am morning news terrifying moments caught on camera as hikers in fresno try to escape a fire. Weve got that video for you plus Michael Cohens new tell all book is revealing details that President Trump. And then fired a low bottom a during his White House Run were going to explain what that means and as we head to break here is another look at the highs today were expecting a heat wave to continue. Today one 15 there in livermore stick good morning, welcome back the city of calistoga is an area that could be facing possible power shut off because of this intense heat that were dealing with well find out more about what theyre doing to prepare were joined this morning by as mayor chris good morning chris. Thanks for having. Yeah, thanks for joining us tell us a little bit about the preparations that youre making in calistoga and should the power be a switched off. So we have been notified by pg e that we are a community that will be impacted by the upcoming psta starting so were taking you know weve been were the first city officially impacted in 2018 by an ekg outage so taken quite a bit effort since then were fortunate this year to when the first in Northern California to have complaint generator system that was just finished installation last week by pg and e so well have 2 thirds of our community during the event that will still receive will have a 3rd of the community, including where island that will still be on our does the but otherwise were taking all the necessary precautions making sure that youve your radio, your batteries et cetera, but our critical facilities will have electricity during this outage. The i understand that a lot of it is taking place in the downtown area thats the area thats going to be covered for the most part by these generators right. Correct there will be a 2 thirds of the as well about 2 thirds of the residential throughout the city council in this one section of town that just cant be energized because of current cqc and cal fire real is this is this program that that youre dealing with with pg and e are is calistoga one of the first to be able to. Have this implemented. We are and were very billy 21 to 25 other communities that theyre doing this project and we are one of the first if not the first time the full System Installed and well say working with the g needing great effort to get it in a justintime literally just tested on the 31st yeah, how are how are your residents going to be able to be notified by this is it is it going to be on their phones. I understand theres also a siren system in calistoga. Correct the traditional system will come warnings will come from pg and then well of a nixle those Warning System the siren system that we just put in is specific to an imminent threat of an emergency, so we wouldnt use it for a psp yes, we have other means of notifications through the alert as well as through but we are well attuned to this weve been through multiple times was one of those things we dont want to get perfect but were getting a lot better have in the past yeah i knew from past experience youve kind of had to learn on the on this i understand that pg and e is giving communities a 3 to 5 day lead is that what happened here in calistoga. Correct we started getting the on friday actually for the potential for this to occur starting on monday and their systems of certainly gotten better from the first time they said were subject to this in 2018 right up to some hourly notices which we certainly appreciate. And thats fantastic. Theyre working hand in hand with pg and tell us more about the cooperation between yourself and the utility. Well in the yes, it has happened again where the First Community ever impacted by to this killer they were learnings on their part and on our part in every every psta since then weve got a little bit better each time. Are there any areas in calistoga that youre extremely worried about a Mobile Home Park Senior Centers anything like this that will be without power. So we have 3 on Senior Citizen Mobile Home Parks in 2 of them will be covered by this new generator system, the 3rd one cold winter, the calistoga is on the side of the river that wont have power so were very concerned about them, but because some of the other Critical Care facilities will energy we can move some folks around with that that mobile home will be generated starting next year, thanks to resiliency grant from the governor of the state of california that would call fighting and received the unfortunate thing is were not have that stall by this csps system but it will be there for a mixture so if the worst should happen this year whats going to happen to the folks at rancho calistoga. So should we have to be subjected to that this they will have the opportunity to come into town which is you know just across the and i go to cooling centers will have access to the pharmacy which will have power of the supermarkets. A Police Station fire station et you know, while its unfortunate we have a 3rd of the town that will have our were very fortunate in a much better position and a lot of other Communities School have no power during one of the situation so again we appreciate your fortunes that and we are taking strides to specifically help a rancho for the next psta season which we know will be upon us. Chris one last again going back to the calistoga folks. Is transportation going to be provided for them are they pretty much on their own to get to the cooling centers. They have a Great Network of folks amongst themselves who can transport, but we also have a shuttle system that we can should and should it come to that ok well it sounds like youre as prepared as you can be and hopefully you wont have to use all this preparation this time around. We try. Yeah best we can but were all in this together were going to get through it as well as doing again we appreciate does this and i miss just have to get better at it every time and were very fortunate and a of the generator system and marty we hope to see you up there soon for just the social right rather than just one of the stores sounds good to me i love calistoga thank you so much mayor. As mayor chris canning of calistoga good morning, everybody welcome back weve been dealing of course with this extreme heat over the Labor Day Weekend and its going to get even worse today than it takes for us here to tell us more about that idea of good morning marty good morning everybody live shot coming in from u c berkeley we can see pretty clearly off to the bay there not much the way of fog little haze of course left over current temperatures these ties what it could be at noon running like that and he already at 90. Not wasting any time 81 for concord east bay shoreline approaching about 80. But anyone for hayward up to the north bay 80 degree readings to like napa nevado 8173 for santa rosa 77 meanwhile for san jose whats going its a big High Pressure zone parked at the right ideal location. So whats going to be hot. We have warm temperatures above us too. This high intensified from yesterday we didnt get the cool down overnight as much as we thought so all of these factors mean today its the thumb on the scale when even hotter still expected. This is probably the hottest day in that little trio bunch that we have slight pulling back on temperatures as we get into monday and early next week want to show the winds bit of a minor breeze happening far inland. But that will be late in the day today for tomorrow a little bit more of a pronounced breeze but that will be pretty late and that shows that the highest starting to weekend. Next thing to look out for even though this is all pretty much on shore might be a little bit of offshore wind starting to build a little bit in the forecast period so excessive heat warning again for today very hot 100 plus expected. Early in the week continue that trend with little bit of relief by tuesday wednesday in late in the week. Temperatures back track it looks like getting some 80s for high temperatures in those inland valleys were talking 95 for San Francisco today, 98 for oakland. Gives you an idea of the east bay shoreline youre one of 3 meanwhile for san jose with 100 plus degree readings to be found throughout much of the south bay, Wider Perspective everything were talking about 110 plus expected east to the east bay hills on the east bay shoreline were looking at one o 5 for hey were one oh one fremont up to the north bay, triple digits to be found as well as the south bay, the peninsula. 90s 80s 81 coming in for Half Moon Bay. Coming a little bit later on well be checking your 4 zone forecast and that extended well. All right, thanks dave turning a wildfire coverage now the excessive heat all weekend is causing calfire to increase its staffing not only are crews on standby for any new fires that may spark theyre also gaining containment on the 3 major fires that have been burning over the last 3 weeks the lnu lightning complex in the north bay is currently at 89 containment with more than 375,000 acres burned the scu complex fire in the east and south bay is up to 88 containment, more than 396,000 acres have burned there and containment is up to 68 in the czu lightning complex fires burning in san mateo and santa cruz counties that one has burned more than 86,000 acres you can find the latest wildfire and evacuation information on our website kron 4 dot com. Stick with us activists are demanding justice for Brianna Taylor are going to see how demonstrators aims to shift attention from americas most famous horse race. Taylors case after kind of. Hope. This is a terrifying but all too familiar scene as hikers tried to escape this rapidly growing. Creek fire. The fastmoving flames forced more than 150 campers at Mammoth Lakes to shelter in place last night, yeah, the creek fire is burning in the Sierra National forest thats east of fresno and it has exploded in size. Its part friday night and has since grown to about 36,000 acres, the county sheriff. There says the fire is cut off the only available escape route and that trapped about 150 people overnight. So far about a 100 of them have been airlifted out several of them are in the hospital this morning with a variety of injuries, including some listed in Critical Condition. Yeah was an upset at this years 100 46th annual Kentucky Derby as authentic beat out the favorite tiz the law. The ons were 8 to one authentic strainer by the way has worked with the past 2 thoroughbreds to win the triple crown due to the coronavirus pandemic the derby took place later than usual this year. And of course with no fans in the stands. The Kentucky Derby one of the states most treasured events but this year a lot of people were watching what was happening before saturdays race thats right protesters gathered outside of Churchill Downs calling for justice for Brianna Taylor britt conway reports that organizers and briannas mom. Say this protest wont be the last. It probable is picking through the pack making a bold run up to be fit to keep their view is super bowl here in louisville, kentucky. Its taken so long. Timothy finley is the founder of the justice and Freedom Coalition just one of several groups who came out in numbers to protest ahead of the race and we police chase Police Accountability what the police chief and rush there were counter protesters there too including a selfdescribed white militia. And police were out in full force breaking up some heated confrontations between protesters and counterprotesters they can do what they want to do the 3 before us were focused were not distracted. Were going continue to call for justice. I think theyll now be protests every day and so just as a side. Im britt conway reporting. Coming up on the kron 4 morning news as we head further into the Labor Day Weekend officials are pleading with everyone not to make the same mistakes as previous holidays during this pandemic dont just do it yourself. Honey . Yep what are you doing in there . Nothing do it for yourself. Everybody felt fine. But now im super sick. Everyone is sick. I just wish we had been more careful. It would have been easier than this. So wear a mask. Do what you can outside. Stay six feet apart. Because some things you just cant take back. Do your part to lower the risk. Good morning, everybody welcome back to the kron 4 morning news on Marty Gonzales and im noelle bellow it is 9. 30 and we are focusing on that very hot Holiday Weekend that we are in the midst of it is all ready very warm out there dave spahr tracking the numbers what are we looking at dates okay, good morning, im martie and noel good morning, everybody were talking another excessive heat warning over the geography though yes the purples covered just about everybody. Hot today with inland temperatures 100 loss expected even around the bay will be getting beyond 100 the coast. The floors about 75 off to 85 to and where we have the oranges here well thats it heat advisory for San Francisco and the coastal areas were spared. But just a heat advisory. Bay bridge toll plaza there there you can see kind of hazy sunshine off to the distance as the day just get started didnt get much cooling overnight not much in the way of a breeze now or in the past. So therefore we didnt get much cooling happening last night so we just build on that current temperatures already in the 80s for a good chunk of the east bay 90 going on for any aac up to the north bay weve got 70s and 80s 77 for san jose 81 meanwhile for San Francisco. Doesnt degrees or half a dozen ahead of yesterday and its been like that all this morning so were just keeping up track for we were from yesterday today probably being the hottest day in the bunch that we have of the trio in this heat wave one 05 1 oclock at 4 were talking one 12. Coming up a little bit well take a look at the 4 zone forecast and that extended marty. All right dave thanks a lot. We want to give you more information about our main story this morning, the extreme temperatures daves talking about. Well attempted a lot of people to head to parks beaches and lakes to find some relief as the hot weather inspired families to spend some Time Outdoors kron fours phillipe djegal reports from lake chabot where its a busy all day long. A crowd was expected and the crowd showed up is great to be out here you feel safe in everyones just like kind in own thing and doing so from a distance a day before the grass near the lake Chabot Regional Park marina in Castro Valley was essentially bear and on saturday, a different story families huddled up keeping to themselves oh love this weekend. So we didnt want to stay inside you on hold when had the same idea she wanted to paint with our friend but not indoors where they have to keep face coverings on the whole Time Outdoors they only covered up when close to other people. Its nice hike everyones kind of cooperating you know just were all we all want to like the outside but then everyones like a cable receptive like social distance and kind and i the east bay Regional Park district staff to for the Holiday Weekend to make sure the crowds caps 8th, most common areas were closed off to discourage picnicking and barbecuing even the restrooms were shut down the rental building was allowed and so was fishing but donald bren has says the fish were not biting into their first look a little warmer now so well davor them like takers hit the trails early in the morning to avoid the hottest hours of the day billy wolfe and his partner walked 9 mile says pretty warm and were looking forward to a swimming pool, maybe this afternoon sounds like a great idea in Castro Valley police should all run for news. And experts warn that this Holiday Weekend could result in a major uptick in covid19 cases. Infection shot up in some places after memorial day and the 4th of july this despite warnings about dangers of big social gatherings. But a lot of people are seemingly ignoring safety precautions. The eus labor day as a way to take the day off but unfortunately of the virus doesnt. We dont want to go into that with another serves that we have to turn around again. I would really is an important weekend. And more than 188,000 people in the u. S. Have died from covid19 and now a key Research Model thats often cited by top Health Officials is predicting more than 410,000 coronavirus deaths in the u. S. By january. Democratic Vice President ial nominee Kamala Harris says that she would not trust a covid19 vaccine based on President Trumps word alone. Those comments are part of a cnn interview that was released on saturday senator harris is concerned the Trump Administration is putting pressure on the fda. To rush the vaccine process. And it would have to be a credible source of information that talks about the the efficacy and the and the reliability of whatever hes talking about i will not take his word for it he wants us to inject lee Health Experts say its critical the approval process isnt rushed to the point where the public doesnt trust the fda instead. Researchers need to prove any vaccine works safely and effectively so the public will be willing to take it. Now i see a Vaccine Advisory Committee member doctor paul offit is speaking out about politics swaying the fda Decision Making on a vaccine and that he says would be bad news. The fda is not an independent group they are part of hhs health and Human Services which is part of the executive branch can they be politicized. Yes theyve been politicized with hydroxychloroquinn decision theyve been plus politicize convalescent plasma decision so thats what makes people word. The World Health Organization says at least 25 potential coronavirus vaccines are undergoing human trials worldwide of those 5 are in a phase 3. Thats the most advanced stage of testing before a vaccine can reach the public. And new this morning were getting a peek at the upcoming book from former fixer for President Trump Michael Cohen in the book cohen describes the president as quote a cheat liar fraud bully racist predator and con man. But critics point out that cohen is an admitted liar himself having pleaded guilty to multiple federal clock crimes, including lying to congress. One of the stranger allegations in the book is that President Trump was so obsessed with then president obama that trump hired a socalled fo bama to take part in a video where trump belittled and then fired the president here you see a photo that cohen provided of the incident he wouldnt say exactly when this happened or the identity of the actor who was hired for the role. President obama. Anita hill has been a longtime critic of democratic president ial candidate joe biden back in 1991 hill testified before a Senate Committee that van u. S. Supreme Court Nominee Clarence Thomas had sexually harassed her at the time senator biden was the chair of that allmale committee and he came off to many observers is not taking hills seriously. Well now anita hill says that she will vote for biden. Cnns Gloria Borger spoke with hill and biden about their shared history. Professor do you swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you god. Was it scary. Ellos terrifying he would call me into a soft its been nearly 30 years since anita hill testified before a now Infamous Senate judiciary hearing led by joe biden you lay out she has come to a surprising conclusion would you like to see elected in november. A former senior Trump Administration official confirms to cnn that President Trump referred to fallen Us Service Members in crude and derogatory terms during a trip to france. Back in 2018 the official confirmed reporting from the atlantic which cited sources who said the president called Fallen Soldiers quote losers and soccers cnns Jeremy Diamond has more. Well the white house is still reeling from this report in the atlantic magazine that President Trump referred to american soldiers who lost their lives in a critical battle in world war one as losers and suckers as he was deciding not to attend a ceremony at a cemetery where some of those were dead were buried and now a former senior Administration Official is confirming to my colleague jim acosta that the president did indeed referred to those american war dead in crude and derogatory terms of course President Trump and the white house have vehemently denied this story insisting that the president has the utmost respect for veterans and Service Members the president saying even what kind of animal would refer to a dead american Service Members in such a fashion, but nonetheless now a former senior Administration Official confirming to cnn the president did indeed make those comments and in addition, another source who is familiar with some of the president s remarks has now told cnn that the president has also repeatedly questioned why vietnam war would have served in that war suggesting that those Service Members did not know how to get out of the draft how to work the system much in the way that the president himself did we know that President Trump received multiple educational deferments to avoid serving in the vietnam war and he also ultimately received a medical after he got a doctors note, claiming that the president had bone spurs making him ineligible for military service. Jeremy diamond cnn, the white house. The president continued to deny the reports on saturday and instead attacked the atlantic reporter. Who broke the story calling him a quote slime ball in another tweet the president also called on fox news to fire the reporter who confirmed parts of that planet report. Now into tomorrow afternoon. We do the same thing this is actually starting today and we drop off from there now these numbers are artificially low because air temperatures are very very high. Well by any definition 2020 has been a tough year and talk about covid19 a battered economy and job loss demonstrations for racial justice. And of course the wildfires all of this leaving many people dealing with feelings of stress isolation frustration and income some cases, desperation while september is National Suicide Prevention Month and we want to focus this morning on Suicide Awareness education and outreach and joining me to do that is scott chavez from the Contra Costa Crisis Center scott good morning. Good morning. Can you tell us what your what your callers are telling your volunteers about the impact of covid19 has had. On both their physical and emotional where wellbeing. The physical and emotional here at the Contra Costa Crisis Center. We answer the 2, 1, one line for information and referral for services and our own local crisis line for emotional crisis. And then also calls that come in on the National Suicide prevention lifeline we also have Grief Services but on phone lines. Then certainly there has been a tremendous increase in the number of people who are desperate related to practical needs. Or rental assistance and ford job assistance and utility assistance and food. And so part of the 2, 1, one service is to let people know what resources are available. And there have been actually increased services increased funding for people affected by covid. And your question was also about the emotional side. So we have our emotional crisis line. And we also have that is our own local line and each of the counties has a local line and then we also are part of the National Suicide prevention lifeline as all are all of the Crisis Centers around the bay area. So the calls have been coming in show desperation isolation, you know i thought of another would not only is there the social isolation, but in some cases, social i couldnt find another word but maybe suffocation and that is where people are stuck at home, yeah and the stresses are increased. So we get calls about that. So we got a call i remember while ago from a woman who a young adult who was living in an apartment with other young adults in indy first moments of the pandemic and the social social distancing. Stay at home shelter in place that some of her roommates actually went off to their own families to stay there and then she felt left alone and she felt abandoned she did not feel drawn to go back to her own family that were stresses going on and so there she is in the midst of this situation. Her own challenges challenges of development and growth in independence and career building in Relationship Building and then being isolated and alone. There there is so much that they have to deal with when people are so desperate. Theres sometimes the fear i would think of reaching out for help in a stigma attached to reaching out. Im so glad that people do find out and perhaps by these articles and these announcements of the lines and people do reach out and they are. Reaching out even one perhaps other people around them are saying not to do that we got a call from a young person in college. And it was a lot of stress in the household this person would have been away at college but was stuck at home using zoom distancelearning by class the classroom, there. The father in the family was also going through a very difficult time. And in fact the father and the brother themselves were talking about their own thoughts of suicide. So the caller to us felt very stressed wonder what to do to help the people in the family and to help himself because these people were putting a lot of pressure on him and they themselves did not believe in reaching out that is the other Family Members and then looked down upon this color. So the caller had to do it secretly. And i think its great that people reach out going beyond the stigma. It really is and its just too bad that there is still that 6 stigma attached to reaching out for help scott you mentioned it earlier in our interview and id like to come back to it a little bit more in depth tell us more about 2, 1, 1, and the services are provided there. So to one lane is a service that in california is county by county in most counties and its throughout most of california all you do is dial 2, 1, 1, the call is directed based on where you are placing the call at the time. The 2, 1, 1, service is to know about what services are in the community its information room for all we know what exists out there. Now unfortunately theres not enough, but we know where you can get food where you can get rental assistance where you can get utility assistance where you can get counseling where you can get Health Services all sorts of social and Health Services are in the databases and by the way all those databases throughout california are Available Online to anyone 24 hours a day or you just dial 2, 1, 1, any time 24 hours a day to find out what is available to people in need scott that is literally a resource that youve talked about we want to put the information up on the screen sore viewers can get a good look at it.
