Kristi gross has the details. Shattered glass broken doors and buildings covered in graffiti were left behind by some protesters marched through downtown sacramento friday night. One morning, the protesters were gone, but the damage remain i think people are angry and perhaps some of the vandalism comes from that i also think that people are just using the protests as an excuse. To come in and do this kind of vandalism John Paul Lawson was on his morning walk when he stopped to survey the damage done to the Wells Fargo Pavilion music circuit. He worries the damage will overshadow the fight for Racial Justice its a distraction i think the message is very important and its too bad that the vandalism and because the distraction from the protests are in response to the shooting of jacob blake and the death of george floyd at the hands of police. Their names or spray painted on the front doors of fire station number 2 i mean thats not getting the message across to anybody. And its actually just causing more a diversion from the message should be fought for. A disgrace hostility against the movement general of course moving toward a possible sacramento fire battalion chief greg house says the department boarded up most of its windows ahead of the protests. He says he doesnt know why the Fire Department was targeted were here to help everyone and protect everyone mom and its just its a shame that its its come down to that i think at this point time the people that are angry are just directing everyone anti police and other messages were spray painted on several buildings downtown the vandalism had yet to be cleaned up. Olofsson says while Property Damage is concerning people should lose sight of the bigger problem, i just think the most important thing is probably to realize that the vandalism gets a lot of play and of course, its a problem. In one sense. Its just granted sometimes that represents peoples livelihoods and things like that we need to be concentrating on the on the loss of life and the things like that that are happening. Well i was kristi gross reporting for us this morning day. Were looking at a situation where conditions wont be quite as hot as they were what these days we need each other more than ever. As the world is waiting for a Coronavirus Vaccine. Health officials fear the distributing that vaccine could be more konta complicated than anyone ever thought Alyssa Elizabeth cohen reports that that fact alone could make it tough to gain support from the public. 4 weeks ago, don baker became the first person in the u. S. To get a shot as part of a phase 3 Clinical Trial for a Coronavirus Vaccine. And now shes back last time we wish all. Yes, and not just for a visit all right. Again i think. But for another shot, thats right. The Coronavirus Vaccine will likely be given in 2 shots a few weeks apart, its like the boxer going into the ring you might hit you might have the other guy with one pine city might go down. But to punch is not the way more effective. And thats a problem for several reasons. First Many Americans are very excited about the Coronavirus Vaccine. According to a recent cnn poll 40 of americans say they wont get it second for those who do take it its a logistical challenge have hundreds of millions of people come in not once but twice theres no question that this is going to be the most complicated largest Mass Vaccination Program in human history. Thats going to take a level of effort a level of sophistication that weve never tried before people have to remember to come in the second time they might have to take time off work twice and possibly experience, unpleasant side effects like fever twice. Government Health Officials are aware thats a big ask i think if you give the Public Health community. That remit they will find a way but the task will be very difficult on the manufacturing and its just more complicated to make 660 million doses of the vaccine than 330 million and its not just double the vaccine. Its double all the components that go with the vaccine. 2 viles with 2 cats into stoppers. 2 syringes with 2 needles for everybody. Doing it twice is going to be daunting it is going to be absolutely don t. For don baker rolling up her sleeve a second time was about saving lives to me to stop. Older people from passing are sick people passing are young people who had no idea they had no Health Issues from struggling the way they have in some of the past as well to me its worth it. It really is worth it. Well now back here in the bay area first the pandemic and then the wildfires this year, the usually busy Summer Season in big sur was hit very hard with very few visitors. Kaitlan conrad reports that many small Business Owners are now worried about having enough money to make it through the winter. Just a Summer Business is picking up in big sur, the fire started and highway one was closed forcing businesses to absorb a second big punch on a normal sunny summer afternoon there would be a wait for a table at the Big Sur River inn but on friday they were just 2 people sitting down the yeah weve adult to. Furlough refer low. Some some people again some employees and because theres just not the the business that we would expect with all the year with the river and says the closure of highway one has resulted in a dramatic drop in visitors and hes worried about what it will mean for the rest of the year. You know thinking ahead to the its a big concern once again you know we were going to lose the last several weeks of of a good weather where we had an opportunity to do some business end and make it through the winter and an up and they own or crooked apple says most big sur businesses run in the red in the winter relying on summer dollars to sustain them. I mean were not just losing right now 2 weeks of business were losing 2 weeks of each day represents the single busiest day in a period of time we could have. Investigators say the shooting began during a clash between Trump Supporters and black lives matter protesters. Police arrested 10 people but its still not clear if the guaman is among those in jail this morning. We are waiting for an update from Portland Police President Trump tweeted this morning that the National Guard is ready to step in if oregons governor should make that request. Protests against Racial Injustice and Police Brutality continued in oakland a saturday night as well, but a much different story, a oakland Police Tweeted several videos is showing that the protesters were throwing rocks and bottles at opd did declare the assembly unlawful and then tried to disperse the crowd and that led to one person being arrested last night kron fours reyna harvey live in oakland for us this morning. She has the latest on the protests last night in oakland reyna. Marty police and protesters really went head to head here in oakland and we know that an officer was even injured in all of this so take a look at this this looks like someone is throwing a bottle at an officer this videos posted by opd you see the 100 plus people they took part in last nights organize protests happening near end an and grand avenue now according to Oakland Police. Rocks and bottles and lasers and shield. Were used to assault officers on as you can also see some of those laser you see those green lights being pointed. Police say this is a misdemeanor and carries a penalty of up to 30 days in jail, so we do know so people were arrested in everything that happened last night as things continue to escalate the officers were able to confiscate shield and other items from those that were in attendance and obeidi says that they have to also deployed gas and smoke. Half a dozen arrests or may not weve seen many of these organized protests, happening throughout the bay area and typically we see a lot of vandalized buildings so i reached out to opd das them or any of the building was vandalized. We know that officer was injured also reached out to find out that officer status as well so as soon as they give us that information will provide you with an update. For now reporting here in oakland they are the kron 4 news all right rhonda thanks level of forward to that update. Now lets go ahead and get a a look at the forecast dave spahr has that and a weve been dealing with some spare the air issues and we have yet another spare the air day again. Today around the bay area you know marty nothing looks like its really going to clear things out for us on that front it looks like the fog is trying to clear out here from the Golden Gate Bridge shot but as far as really mixing our air mass were still going to be stuck in all of this because we have a little bit of we call it a heat spike coming up our way doesnt it does seem to be as pronounced as were talking about earlier but that also means you dont get a lot of circulation of the air and thats what we really need we can use a nice little front coming through. Giving us a nice gentle rain but its just not in the cards right now live shot also from u c berkeley in the east bay shoreline all secured by this fog going on. We also have a shot from the bay bridge toll plaza and you have that overcast thats also would work as well now the temperatures we have we have lower 60s lining up the east bay shoreline still 50s inland and up to the north bay 58 san jose. Now for comparison sake were trailing in a couple spots actually a little warmer and others but were pretty close to where we were this time from yesterday getting to it looks like right now in the spare the air days situation looks like the east bay is getting a little bit of a break compared to what youve been experience in the last few days. All the Santa Cruz Mountains maybe not as bad as yesterday but still looking a little unhealthy in Solano County kind of takes the cake here, its its the worst off right now you can see the general flow pattern because we have the onshore winds that are leading a little bit northerly also getting in some of this too was southern rim theyve been spared a little bit if you will. The last couple of days with the sfo has a background here. No delays 80 a 12 me 12 p him pay him for matter. 03 00pm at 89. Were looking for high temperatures to just graze into the lower 90s build on that early next week but not quite as hot as were talking about from before then we relax temperatures for the remainder of the week, but another heat spike as possible into next weekend. Well take a look at all that coming up a little later on. Hes trying to reinforce all lines that have been established throughout the incident. Right now that the weather is in our favor were trying to get in there aggressively. Firefighters will be hard work battling 3 major fires that continue to burn in the bay area. The latest numbers put the scu fires in the east and south bay at 45 containment now the only new lightning complex fires in the north bay are now at 55 contained and the czu august lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties now at 33 contained. Some of accusation orders in Sonoma County has been downgraded to warnings or theyve been lifted altogether and that means that more people are able to return home to see whats left standing kron fours phillipe djegal reports from healdsburg were one couple returned to a shocking surprise. We unbelievably lucky. A sense of gratitude mixed with sadness as jeffrey hast and jennifer friends check up on neighboring properties, wondering if their friends homes along mill creek road in healdsburg are still there theyre all gone from here on out theyre all gone almost. Just an occasional building standing thats theres no reason no rhyme or reason just like a tornado makes no sense up until friday. They thought their home was gone to another potential victim of the l a new lightning complex fire. We out building. But the house survived its amazing. We just work we cannot believe it. We are blessed the power on their hill is still out so itll be some time before the couple can move back into their Sonoma County home to close the and for the past says about 80 of their 20 acres of land have burned hell take it though knowing it could have been much worse 2 weeks ago firefighters stopped by the fires in order to even get those back. And i didnt im im convinced that the fed to have an Evacuation Order is still in effect for the area, but the couple was allowed free entry to assess their money and left soon their focus will be on helping others whove suffered more eyes were covered our heart goes out to everybody we just hope everybody pitches in. Was a good job, you know helping them rebuild an emotional process that will take some time in heels. Police today kron 4 news. [ ] right now, aarps work is more important than ever. Access to healthcare, affordable prescription drugs, opportunities to save for the future. Thats what aarp fights for because thats what everyone deserves. Good morning welcome back the death of Chadwick Boseman from colon cancer is causing a lot of people sound the alarm for earlier screening for Colorectal Cancers. Jeanine donaldson talk to medical experts about that and has more. Well the biggest risk factors for Colorectal Cancer doctors are telling me are not so much genetic but rather poor diet and lack of exercise in the way to catch the silent killer. Its my screening cancer doesnt care. You know, unfortunately, no one does any resistance or any type of cancer called Actor Chadwick Boseman thought colon cancer for the past 4 years until he died yesterday. For many this was heartbreaking and hits close to home each year about 50,000 people die from Colorectal Cancer. That number disproportionately affecting the Africanamerican Community not to make unpopular ihsan. That there is a core diet. Theres less fiber is more processed red theres less access to health care. There is statement not white at ucla must be screened on about 150,000 cases are diagnosed in the u. S. Each year and its the 3rd leading cause of death from cancer. In the u. S. One in every 41 African American men and women will die from colon cancer. In white men that number drops to one 49 1 in 53 for white women most common signs and symptoms that we see of people who have call rectal cancer or unexpected we rectal bleeding. Changes in their bomb movements and some type of severe docking, however, 50 of those diagnosed with colon cancer had no symptoms at all. Which is why screening is vital despite the stigma around colonoscopies people think its painful people think its embarrassing the reality is is a medical procedure is something that we do all the time. You are asleep. The doctor tells me that increasing exercise and fiber and decreasing smoking in the amount of red meat that you eat can eliminate many of the risk factors associated with Colorectal Cancer. In west charlotte, im jeanine donaldson. We are looking at bay Area Temperatures now pretty much in the 50s and 60s were going to warm up again today but nothing as pronounced as what were thinking about getting into early next week and i feel like summer. But at least the not quite that the spike well get into that coming up kron 4 morning news continues. Well the storm may be gone, but the danger in the damage are not to take a look at that on saturday president they took a look at the hurricane lauras destruction firsthand and as chris james reports he met with officials and First Responders in both louisiana and in texas. Hurricane laura hit the gulf coast with devastating 150 mile per hour winds. Taking homes power water and lives. Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones or than a dozen people across louisiana and texas lost their lives in the storm and more than half a Million People in 3 states lost power. President trump saw the damage firsthand saturday first in lake charles louisiana, which took the brunt of lauras right. And hes seen anything quite like it trees ripped out from the rooms we had pine trees that were broken in half already met some people that have been absolutely devastated. This was a tremendously powerful storm. For people in louisiana, its an emotional reminder of Hurricane Katrina which hit 15 years ago to the day. It came together and you rebuild america helped and here we are today and you can have this situation taken care of very very quickly from louisiana, the president food or Orange County texas. The state took a fraction of the damage louisiana did. But texas leaders were no less thankful for the help theyve gotten you have been there for us every step of the way helping us texas could have gotten hit much worse. We obviously grieve that our neighbors in louisiana took the brunt of this storm, but the danger isnt on both states are under heat advisories this weekend. So turning the power back on is crucial in lake charles louisiana, Chris James Kron 4 news. And bring it back here to the bay area were going to deal with yet another spare the air day because of all the fires are going to find out more from about that from dave smart idea. A good morning marty good morning, everybody and the first things first were dealing with this fog to down if you can see the coverage areas covering up an entire east bay shoreline even the shrubbery as you can see. And also the shot from the golden gate were getting some color now in the fog as you can see a obviously with some of the smoke that were having to deal with incorporated in that fog winds are not doing too much right now theyre calm over most of the region a little bit of a breeze we expect with inland heating to drive those winds just a little bit there, but its not a major weather feature thats knowing that that would really give us the Overall Coverage of a good on shore wind kind of mix things out its going to be very localized that we typically get with the daytime heating lower 60s line up the east bay shoreline for now inland pretty close to that although any on his racing at 6363. If these up here the north bay and 58 san jose, not a bad start. However as we get into the afternoon warming up again with still that haze around in spots and the fog is kind of slow to clear in some areas picking along the coast. Early into the week we did talk about a heat spike coming our way well we really cant say that its going to be quite that hot. Well get into the middle 90s perhaps but thats about the highs will get us going to the far east bay locations a little bit of the Solano County. Then for the rest of the week we actually pull back with temperatures close to seasonality it looks like not bad and then into next weekend watching out of the corner of her eye for another heat spike potentially now into next weekend at those numbers back in the upper 90s today, 66 San Francisco opening up the skies, but still hazy 72 for oakland, 83 san jose across the wider bay here are the numbers we talked about now you know 93 92 for concord 80s up here to the north bay and still maintaining the upper 70s along the east bay shoreline of course, well check in with our 4 zone forecast. Were in the moderate category in the peninsula and getting on healthy as we get down to santa cruz in much this case also in Solano County. A minor break along the east bay shoreline little bit over the east bay hills too. But whats interesting is in southern marin up the Sonoma County a little bit going into the moderate category theyve been spared the last couple of days a little bit in the Morning Hours current winds to work with some of this we actually have a little bit of a southerly wind working here in Northern Wind excuse me out of not novato but basically the preponderance of a bit of an onshore wind there with Single Digits to calm winds again well expect a little bit of an uptick with winds in the inland valleys after we get that daytime heating Temperature Check weve got lower 60s to some upper 50s in most of the east bay 50s up to the north bay 58 san jose 56 coming in for San Francisco in conbrast there. Well a little bit trailing over the inland areas where is southern marine, the peninsula, a little bit warmer this morning, theres a live shot from sfo, no delays this morning up sunny meaning hazy sunshine 80 by high noon by 3 oclock were talking 89, a coming up in a bit well check in the 4 zone forecast and the extended which is the heat spike turned he bump marty all right dave thanks a lot. Back to the news this morning we continue to follow breaking news from overnight and thats where after 94 straight nights of protest in Portland Oregon. As the world is waiting for a Coronavirus Vaccine. Health officials fear that distributing that vaccine could be much more complicated than anyone ever thought. Elizabeth cohen says that fact alone could make it tough to gain support from the public. 4 weeks ago, don baker became the first person in the u. S. To get a shot as part of a phase 3 Clinical Trial for a Coronavirus Vaccine. And now shes back last time we wish you best fans. Not just for a visit all right. Again i think. But for another shot, thats right. The Coronavirus Vaccine will likely be given in 2 shots a few weeks apart, its like the boxer going into the ring you might hit you might have the other guy with one pine city might go down. To punch is not the way more effective. And thats a problem for several reasons. First Many Americans are very excited about the Coronavirus Vaccine. According to a recent cnn poll 40 of americans say they wont get it second for those who do take it its a logistical challenge to have hundreds of millions of people come in not once but twice theres no question that this is going to be the most complicated largest Mass Vaccination Program in human history. 2 syringes with 2 needles for everybody doing it twice is going to be daunting it is going to be absolutely don t. For don baker rolling up her sleeve a second time was about saving lives to me to stop. Older people from passing are sick people passing are young people who had no idea they had no Health Issues. From struggling the way they have in some of the past as well to me its worth it. It really is worth it. Were going take a short break were taking a live look outside at the embarcadero in San Francisco you can see via issues that were having with the smoke and also some fog this morning daybell have new advil dual action with acetaminophen fights pain in two ways. Advil targets pain at the source. While acetaminophen blocks pain signals. The future of pain relief is here. New advil dual action. Good morning welcome back and well first the pandemic now the wildfires and this year the usually very busy Summer Season in big sur was hit hard with very few visitor visitors kalen conrad reports of many small Business Owners are now worried about whether or not theyre going to enough money to make it through the winter. Just as Summer Business is picking up in big sur, the fire started and highway one was closed forcing businesses to absorb a second big punch on a normal sunny summer afternoon there would be a wait for a table at the Big Sur River inn but on friday they were just 2 people sitting down the yeah weve had to. As far as the winds are concerned for right now were pretty calm again its the Single Digits over the rest the real estate. We expect a little bit of an uptick for those inland valleys because of the inland heating and that brings in the marine layer, but as far as anything synoptic that means a major weather feature like a front or something to really give us an earnest wind flow to kind of clean things out here sweep it out not really in the cars but day by day alternately it will mix south were looking at lower 60s lining up the east bay shoreline for now 50s up to the north base 58 down there. The san jose and 57 meanwhile for San Francisco. So your 4 zone forecast checking in for this sunday, 66 San Francisco looks like along the coast will be in the mid 60s own 70s line up along the bay side of the peninsula 75 burlingame down south most readings holding in the 70s 84 palo alto meanwhile in the south bay getting up to close to mid 80s territorial though 83 for san jose 92 morgan hill 88 los gatos an 85 for cupertino east bay shoreline to the south. Coming up as protests continue throughout the country, many black lives matter supporters are worried the movement being overshadowed by growing vandalism plus after a north bay Business Owner says he was racially profiled in his own store, his community marched for change what theyre demanding. Coming up and we continue to track the latest covid19 numbers here about Health Experts latest worry for guarding a possible want restaurants to open . And schools . Want the economy to get back on track . Youre not alone. And you can help make it happen. Stay 6 feet apart. Wash your hands. Wear a mask every time you leave your home. Choose to join the fight against covid19. Do your part. Slow the spread. Good morning welcome back some sacramento, residents are worried that the fight for Racial Justice will be overshadowed by vandalism yeah, this comes after protesters damaged property as they marched through the citys downtown area on friday night kristi gross has those details. Shattered glass broken doors and buildings covered in graffiti were left behind by some protesters marched through downtown sacramento friday night. Morning the protesters were gone, but the damage remain i think people are angry and perhaps some of the vandalism comes from that i also think that people are just using the protests as an excuse. And its actually just causing more a diversion from the message should be brought forward. I just pray ta steal atm against the general, of course moving toward a possible sacramento fire battalion chief greg house says the department boarded up most of its windows ahead of the protests. Its just granted sometimes that represents peoples livelihoods and things like that. We need to be concentrating on the on the loss of life and the things like that that are happening. And that was kristi gross reporting for us from sacramento. All right were taking care of this fog once we do we want to be left with kind of smoggy conditions 84 going on at one and 4 oclock 89 warming up a touch into early next week. Early in the week a little bit of an increase in temperatures getting them may be approaching the mid 90s, not as hot as were talking about from yesterday, theres little bit of relief there. While the world is waiting for a Coronavirus Vaccines. Health officials are fearing the distributing that vaccine could be a lot more complicated than anyone ever imagined Elizabeth Cohen says that fact alone could make it tough to gain support from the public. 4 weeks ago, don baker became the first person in the u. S. To get a shot as part of a phase 3 Clinical Trial for a coronav rus vaccine. 2 syringes with 2 needles for everybody doing it twice is going to be daunting it is going to be absolutely don t. For dawn baker rolling up her sleeve a second time was about saving lives to me to stop. Older people from passing are sick people passing are young people who had no idea they had no Health Issues. From struggling the way they have in some of the past as well to me its worth it. It really is worth it. Well one of the biggest hardships people dealing with covid19 faces the extreme isolation yeah, unfortunately, fortunately, though there are some programs that are springing up around the world that are trying to solve that issue with the help of former patients who recovered from the virus elliott got kind has more on that. Israel has been hit hard by coronavirus more than a 100,000 people have contracted covid19 out of a population of just over 9 million more than 800 have died. Like hospitals the about Hadassah Medical Center isolates its coronavirus patients theyre not allowed visitors except in exceptional circumstances. Now though thanks to a new initiative this one other group of people who are also allowed in. Call them coronavirus veterans. People like shook iraq and recovered from covid19 giving them more medical evidence increasingly suggests is at least a measure of immunity unleashed a short period of time. Twice a week he takes time out from his day job as a tech Company Product manager to volunteer we go into the krona words here. This week doing 2 main things one is just helping out with anything that is non medical getting cup of coffee for those who can get out of that because theyre too weak or just taking away, you know trays of food after lunch things like that second aspect is that same aura. Moral mental. We have people here from come in for for a week or 2 and sometimes even more. And they they are lone shook he says his own experience at the virus when he and his wife was ill, compelled him to act. We were sick for about a month during that time we just got so much help from friends. And family that just left food on our doorstep that shopping for and we we understood the feeling of being assisted in helped and when we saw this post on facebook saying that you know had asked the started this project of having corona veterans. Going into the into the hot sun towards here. We both looked at each other, and we said. Now this is where we give back.
