Camp thats a Scotts Valley, he has the latest for us on the firefight will. Marty Scotts Valley good news. I just came to this location and the checkpoints are all gone meaning theyre not stopping people from returning to their homes. In fact only the median authorized personnel for this past week were allowed to come through now if you live in Scotts Valley and you didnt hear the news. You can return to your location, west of us highway 17 so you can do that even though the fires are still burning at this time it has chewed up more than 81,000 acres and they expect that number to go up when we carry that News Conference for you live in about 55 minutes from now. Containment number also has gone up when i was here 24 hours ago they were sitting at around 21 containment. Now its 24 containment, but the fire. Still is giving firefighters a handful of theyre throwing 2000 firefighters as says. Theyre hoping to go back up in the air to do water drops because theres been so much damage that they are attacking us from the ground as well as the sky. Most of the work being done by a lot of firefighters who are weary theyre having change of shifts theyre being told to be careful and they want to take this window of opportunity seriously marty robin because dave spahr talked about the heat wave. Coming so they want to make sure to make inroads on this fire as far as the evacuees from the other locations theyre telling people to be patient because it is a group effort mean even though you dont see the fires right now and i got to tell you the smoke has cleared out dramatically from the beginning of the week. Theyre still link got theyre still telling people not to return to their homes just yet because before they do they have to restore the infrastructure make sure theres power water to roads are safe. Hopefully we will get an update on the evacuees. It seems like mardy rob in there and are promising in over delivering because yesterday they were talking about days before the evacuees could return in fact they actually started returning. Last night. Back to you that is great news for a lot of folks, thanks will. Well some families have ordered to evacuate because of the czu complex fire are finally back home in Santa Cruz County families and Scotts Valley they were allowed to return home for the first time in a week. Our kron 4 cameras were there as people on packed their cars and move their items back into their homes. Many neighbors left without you know knowing what they would come back to. I grab some or that i knew that i could never replicate again and is photographs. So its a lesson get your photographs in order the town isis is felt and there was a fire on the region shelton. If it came down into felton everything after that a pill. And this neighborhood in head first and you know the billowing smoke that was coming from that direction in the act there is when we came out and finally had the cars lot and were just. Lets just go. We have some video check this out here is video of a tree that was falling in Santa Cruz County cal fire warning about those downed trees and other hazards in the hardest hit areas. Its going to take weeks for for families are actually allow allowed back into felton been loman in Boulder Creek and allowed to head back home. Well heres the latest from the lnu lightning complex fires burning in 5 counties so it has burned nearly 370,000 acres as 35 contain 5 people have died 4 others hurt. The fires destroyed over 1000 structures and threatened more than 30,000 others. And in the north bay this morning, a family of 5 is left heartbroken after the lnu lightning complex fire destroyed their home in vacaville. The Hernandez Family found nothing but ash and rubble where their home used to stand on the family had lived here for 17 years. They say the fire rapidly approach their home early last wednesday they had about half hour to grab their things and get out. And on the door and told his we gotta go we gotta go and it was pretty frantic after that we were we grab some stuff as quick as we could and pretty much just panic mode because we saw the fire coming over that hill. So thats pretty much the only warning we had and then the lights started flickering and gone. Well family and friends are helping the hernandez get back on their feet the families hoping that theyll be able to rebuild their home in vacaville. Some but not all evacuees in the north bay are being allowed back although the fire may be out in some areas there are still a lot of hazards on the roadways. Kron fours dan kerman has more on that. This is what it looks like driving along mill creek road. Well the fire has come and gone along parts of this healdsburg neighborhood. The smell of smoke is thick homes have been destroyed and hazards are everywhere. Utility lines are down and huge trees that have been torched are falling or are ready to come down. There is still that big safety risk to the residents also crews alike. That could delay the repopulate shun of this area once the fire is out pacific gas and electric crews have moved damaged equipment off roadways. But repairs remained down the road crews have made assessments in that area, but its not safe. Quite yet for us to go in and start repairing equipment and restoring power in that specific area pg and e Vegetation Management inspectors are also on scene. To determine whether charge trees need to be pruned or removed the Vegetation Management inspectors are taking a look at the burn trees near or power lines and the states are just assessing and theyre marking the trees with fluorescent green kate up he won or keep to priority one priority too that based on the health of the tree and then that recruit will come in and remove the tree some hazardous trees have already been taken down and cut up. And by the looks of things a lot more might need to be done before its safe for residents to be back here. The course the residents they want to come back. Like we said before the the hazard and the life safety issue is still a concern here even though theres not the active fire that weve seen again firefighters have made significant progress with the yelling you fly over the last few days they expect that progress to continue in the days ahead. A base camp and santa rosa dan kerman kron 4 news. Checking in with meteorologist dave spahr now lets get an update on todays hey good morning robin good morning, everybody we have that to fog reading us this morning, a nice visitor here marine layer making its progress across a good chunk of the bay the shot here from u c berkeley we can see the foreground too well and certainly the lighting up of the lights on the east bay shoreline but its relatively thin though, and it will mix out quickly today after the sun joins us here well probably see it spill little better the next hour or so and then retreat back to the coast now even into the early afternoon, maybe a lingering in some spots there. But again we take care of it and tomorrow comes back, but it wont be quite the same progress in the south bay as it did today in earlier days. Numbers pretty much in the upper 50s we got about 60 ish along the east bay shoreline 50 santa rosa, 57 san jose a little cooler also up in the north they today than yesterday, a touch, warmer off to the east bay for today with sfo in the background, no delays this morning 66 at 09 00am by high noon, 83, hazy sunshine, the rule were supposed to get a high heat by coming in for this weekend looks like thats been delayed into early next week well take a closer inspection your forecast marty robin. All right jay thank you so much will happening today more businesses will be allowed to reopen in the east bay hair salons barber shops and wine tasting rooms are also allowed to resume outdoors in Alameda County. Its a big day as you might imagine for a lot of Business Owners in the east bay kron fours reyna harvey live this morning in alameda she has all the details for us. Hi rhonda good morning. Good morning and just like you both mentioned a big day for a lot of the Business Owners who are going to be opening their doors like that barr was shot behind me some people are probably watching this theyre probably a way to come in line at here before the doors open, but this isnt the only establishment thats going to be opening today while Business Owners are excited about this. There are some others that have some concerns and understandably so but were going with this list on your screen. So you can see who all is opening up their doors, you guys are you mention it. The hair salons the barber shops as well theyre not the only ones. Also he liked to have your skin care routine. Theyre also opening their doors a whack Scene Services are seeing some interesting things online about that from some people today swimming pools as well wine tasting by appointment nonmedical massages and also library start to offer Curbside Pickup now theres always 2 sides to every story some people are happy like i mentioned others are concerned about being able to provide services outside you cant do everything for people outdoors another thing is there are the elements right a lot of Business Owners are concerned about staff working outside in the elements and like we mentioned at the top of the show we have seen fires across the bay area. Thats problematic. For a lot of people in terms of the air quality like you know. Alameda county leads the counties in the bay area with coronavirus cases so its going to be interesting to see today how Business Owners able to safely implemented, but if youre doing any of these things out doors today. We want to make sure you wear a mask and practice social distancing for now reporting here in Alameda Reyna harvey kron 4 news all right, thank you for the update reyna marty. Well also happening today, robin some Contra Costa County businesses will be allowed to reopen outdoors thats because theres been a gradual downward trend in cases Positivity Rate and hospitalizations those businesses include personal Care Services that dont involve close contact with the face like nail salons and massage parlors gyms fitness centers, Hotels Motels and short term rentals. Coming up next on the kron 4 morning news. Its the 57th anniversary of the i have a dream speech well talk about how the historic event will be commemorated with another march in the Nations Capital thats coming up. Welcome back everyone, the time is 5. 14 good morning and thanks for staying with us its foggy outside lets check in with dave spahr get an update on todays a good morning. Robin good morning, everybody on the fog weve got going on here, heres the golden gate and you can see kind of the shroud at all this fog going on its the last tory to clear any way, but it probably will clear by the late Morning Hours even there we do have the coastal but that northwesterly breeze helping in. Bring that marine layer but when he headed inland a little bit on the east bay shoreline looks like kind of variable winds going on com to single digit readings for the most part not a whole lot of winds going on thats part of the problem kind of the 7 in this mode course we dont want winds upper 50s lower 60s for much of the east bay 50s up to the north bay 57 meanwhile for san jose, great progress of the fog this morning a little bit less so tomorrow its going to kind of bypass lot of the south bay. Tomorrow. Now this high thats off to the east its supposed to be the generator berhe spike well its been delayed a little bit got a trough in her backyard here to give us some relief today and for the weekend just the lane that warm up phase. Were expecting early into next week. See some of the footprints of things started to change is this typical marine layer is terms of measured by the humidity. There it mixes out to the afternoon. We drop those levels to the 30s in the 40s off to the far east bay, not too bad and we still hang on to it along the coast nicely spills back in again in the recovery by the Morning Hours and then by the afternoon tomorrow now were into the 50s in the 40s we expect this to be drying out a little bit more prone to pronounce fashion by the time we finish the weekend. So heres what we got going on live shot of sfo, no delays this morning morning fog and clear now that looks like warm to mile depending on your perspective there into the weekend we kind of keep the same thing slightly warmer going on inland, but theres a heat spike the develops early next week. And some folks might actually see numbers approach here about 100 or so monday or tuesday before that starts to break down a little bit 66 going on today for San Francisco will do about 84 doubt of the Santa Clara Valley for san jose 73 for oakland and across the wider bay got some mid 90s still possible in the far east bay most ratings up in the north bakes up Solano County will be into the 80s and looks like along the peninsula it 70s and 80s well check into that extended forecast coming up in a bit in your 4 zone as well robin has a check in the bay area bridges i do indeed and its picking up a little bit out there, but its still not bad. I dont see any hot spots are major problems but. Check out the traffic here on the san mateo bridge. This is westbound 92 the brake lights folks are leaving hayward. Heading over to the peninsula and i dont see any problems right now, but yes we have a crowd right along the flat section overall pretty nice though heading into foster city and san mateo and sent over to the richmond sandra fell bridge taking a peek at west bound 5. 80 traffic picking up a little bit. But you have plenty of time to make your way into the north bay. We usually dont get too much of a backup. In the 5 oclock hour. So all is well here westbound 5. 80 on into the north bay marty. All right robin lets get to a big story. Were following this friday morning. The teenager accused of fatally shooting 2 people during a protest in kenosha wisconsin will be facing a judge later today. King said he hoped people would be judged by character not skin color, and to honor that days 57th anniversary another march in the Nations Capital were here to make history again we need change last time they had the march something came out of it. Were going to see what we can do to this weekend. The 2020 march on washington organized by the reverend al sharptons National Action network. The n double acp and others is called get your knee offer next, everybodys lives matter. But everybodys lives dont matter until black lives matter i think for them moderate whites, its time that everybody stands up as 10s of thousands are expected to march in washington. Protests in tensions continue following this weeks Police Shooting of jacob blake in kenosha wisconsin. And just like that day in 1963 main message of this march is to judge people by character not skin color people dont stop getting shot. When the president is a democrat. Im John Lawrence reporting. Coming up next on the kron 4 morning news, a black Business Owner in the north bay says that he was harassed and profiled by police the incident was all caught on camera well have more details coming up after welcome back everyone to the north bay, the city of temper on held a town meeting to talk about a tense confrontation took place over the weekend between police and the only black store owners in the town take a listen. His regular Business Hours is your 4 zone who you want to know why ok its my still o k ok did you identify different myself to anybody, its my soul. Well it all began last friday night, the owners of yemen say Police Parked out front of their Clothing Store in downtown temper on and eventually came to the front door and question the owner yum a khalifa about what he was doing inside. Cleave says he explained that he owned the store but police then demanded that he prove it. Kelly says that the officers were argumentative from the start. I just think that you know things can be better and they should be better. And as a Business Owner, i shouldnt have to feel that i have to. To my several who am every single time he gets a little bit frustrating. Its frustrating. The confrontation continued until a white neighbor shouted at police that khalifa own the store thats when the officers left the store owner say that while they have received a lot of support from the customers. They have yet to receive an apology from police a peaceful protest is planned for the saturday afternoon at noon excuse. And now to the east bay this morning, Oakland Police are asking for the publics help finding the owner of the van you see on your screen. Thats where officers found 18 yearold Yvonne Mcneil suffering from a gunshot wound macneill died from his injuries, the next day. Well new lightning complex continues to be burning and 5. 28 this friday morning, thanks so much for staying with us at the half hour break of the kron 4 morning news, yes, and we need to get an update on the forecast were checking in with dave spahr see when the fog has got a clear day well good morning guys, good morning, everybody and were just checking into the winds too we have the you know the onshore flow brought the fog in very typical in uncovered a pretty much a good chunk of the bay here well show you that just a second right now the winds Single Digits to calm just enough to bring it on in and when the sun joins us this will mix out this is called the progress right now covering all the usual suspect areas, not too much in the Santa Clara Valley by comparison but this is much better than were going to see tomorrow the fog will not venture as far south tomorrow looks like sort mixes out nicely probably most areas will be cleared out before noon. The little pesky along the coast that will linger into the early afternoon just a touch temperatures thus far in the upper 50s lower 60s for a good chunk of the east bay got 50s up here to the north bay 57, san jose and this is what we expect of course it will be hazy sunshine going over the smokefilled skies still 66 by 09 00am by high noon at 83 going to be warming up little this weekend but the heat spike has been delayed into early next week well be getting into some of that coming up and just a bit robin. Sounds good. Thank you dave as firefighters start to gain control of the 3 large wildfires burning in the bay area. Evacuees are returning to find whats happened to their homes and businesses. Firefighters acknowledge the scope of the damage is historic. But theyre making progress containment of these fires is growing now according to calfire the scu lightning complex fire in parts of the east and south bay or 35 contain the czu august lightning complex fires in san mateo and santa cruz counties are 24 contained and the l in new lightning complex fires in the north bay or 35 containment. We want to continue our Team Coverage on the lnu complex fire thats burning in the north bay, the map on your screen shows where the fires are burning in napa sonoma and solano counties this morning kron 4 Sarah Stinson live this morning for us in napa county taking a closer look at all the damage. Hi sarah good morning. Marty good morning there. Yeah im live here off of Pleasant Valley road i switch it up this morning because of kind of been in the same area near Lake Berryessa and now want to see some of the damage in this area in vacaville area you can its very dark out of course we can see these this is the son theyre putting in front of because people are being allowed let in that during the daytime to visit their home but then you can see the sun says unsafe. They want to make sure that when people are allowed to visit their home during the day. They dont touch anything because its not safe, but they want people to be able to go in and see the damage that was caused from the lnu lightning complex that just ripped through here. And burned hundreds of homes and structures calfire though now has it 35 contained, but its grown to just under 370,000 acres. So while this climbs gets a little bit bigger and bigger it seems like they still continued either keep it under control like yesterday at 33 . Were gain some percentages so theyre doing a good job know i spoke with a firefighter yesterday, he said its burning in very remote areas at one point it was burning near the cache creek casino. But they have been working nonstop to try and make sure they put out the hot spots they create those back burns make sure that it doesnt pick up say we have another weather event like we did last weekend in the meantime as i said people have been visiting their homes which has been not its been a very stressful situations been scary. Its been because as we know hundreds of homes burned in this fire and that has been something that were now having deal with the with the aftermath but we cant really start to rebuild until the fire is completely put out we know that 1080 structures have been destroyed. We know that 30,000 earth still threatened and there are still 272 structures that have been damaged so i guess the good news is that is not for ning out of control that Fire Fighters youll have been in control is trying to game the containment trying to make sure ensure that this will not rekindle it wont you know pick up again so we have another wind event but this morning of the showing you some of the damage we see out here so make sure to stay tuned, especially as the sun comes up for now ill send it back to you. All right, thank you well check back with you throughout the morning. And also in the north bay as more people return home and Solano County emotions are running high. As the county Sheriffs Office says roughly 1000 homes in the affected burn area about only a 150 of them are safe enough for reentry some residents tell us that they fear their home was gone only to later learned through a firefighter that that wasnt the case. Everything was only all cried remember van and he recalled yeah because houses was like wow thats great. A 5th of this year is well the county set up a reentry. Center at the Mission Church now thats where evacuees approved to return home are given passes that will allow them through the official checkpoints. Well firefighters in Solano County are mopping up as more and more evacuees are allowed to return home. The hennessy fire just burned through entire neighborhoods and many families are coming back to find their homes in ruins, many of the damaged homes on Pleasant Valley road out there just north of vacaville, one family was only able to save their animals but Everything Else is gone. All he had was my little to door infiniti and i had 2 german shepherds and 2 cats to get in there so i literally got like 2 boxes of momentos in my my when filed its as Important Documents and Everything Else was lost or all of our memories. All of our pictures on the walls and everything is gone. The fire also wiped out the familys Farm Business now there are just among many fire victims that are trying to figure out what to do next. Well to the peninsula now families in san mateo also allowed to return home cars filled with evacuees are making their way back into the communities. It was a week ago that the czu lightning complex fires forced many to leave behind their homes and businesses i was like oh war zone, you know because you can you get out what you can get back to you and i got family here the area but you know i cant even imagine for the people who had to rent a hotel for this past week or. Well communities that were spared by the flames are just thankful to find their businesses and homes still standing. The scu lightning complex fires burning in parts of the east and south bay are now at nearly 370,000 acres its 35 contained. Thus far 28 structures have been destroyed more than 20,000 are still threatened. Returning home after a wildfire can be tough and cal fire has these tips on making the transition easier. They say first of all make sure that your driveway is clear of debris or downed power lines. They also say to look up for any potential falling tree limbs near property. Check out under your death for any hot embers as well as any events outside the home and the jet the gunners for hot smoldering embers as well also before going inside to inspect your home make sure you dont smell natural gas or propane propane and depending on how long you were gone you probably will have to throw out spoiled food. Cal fire is also reminding everyone to maintain Defensible Space around your home all year long. And still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news with Research Resources stretched and in the early days of the firefight some People Living in the Santa Cruz Mountains stepped up to protect their homes will have their story coming up. And a man is in jail this morning after stealing a firefighters wallet from his car as a firefighter battle, the czu lightning complex fire. Well have details on that coming up. I mean a warning key in washington federal Officials Say theyre monitoring hurricane nora and its damage c hey, my twitter is blowing up dear jack box, bring back the spicy chicken strips, still waiting for the spicy chicken strips, so many about spicy chicken strips. We did dodge a bullet President Trump says he will visit the storm damage this weekend in washington, im anna warning keep. And theres still some more disturbances out the atlanta kind of watching to ok. Heres what were looking at for highs today, mid 90s going on in the far east bay 80s, mostly up in the north bay going to be warm this weekend but were delaying the heat spike in their early next week at your 4 zone forecast and that extended the kron 4 good morning 5. 44 on this friday morning we want to get the t g i f 4 forecast from days for what the weather is going to be looking like his day a good morning. Marty good morning, everybody and a little bit of fog going on this morning on no delays happening at sfo we can get the imagery from the buildings here pretty clearly from the lights come in there, but noting that fog, heres the Coverage Area you can see east bay shoreline up to the north bay peninsula, San Francisco all that clears out pretty quickly today by early afternoon as you can see coming back again tonight and this is as quote good as it gets tomorrow morning notice not to good coverage here in the south bay and having trouble getting over the east bay hills except for around the delta. So its not going to be quite as aggressive tomorrow. It doesnt look like in this is 07 00am as quote good as it gets and then it retreats after that are watching the moisture levels here again during the day it kind of dries out a little bit to the far east bay, mostly 40s and 30s. Percentage wise. The recovery to greet us again saturday morning and for the afternoon dropping off. But we get into early next week not only do we get a little drier but we get much hotter too. 60s and 50s right now in the east bay up to the north bay mostly 50s here, 57 meanwhile for san jose kind of watching footprints in this we dont see any systems coming our way unfortunately for any rain or anything we do actually have 2 tropical storms way down to the south and they dont make much progress up here at all watch what goes on in the future here we get to well into the weekend here. Excuse me look at this clearing patch developing here High Pressure really asserting itself and we start to get the warmup early into next week, theres a little system that could help us out giving us some rain but this is getting to the season. We dont usually get those systems out of the gulf of alaska to impact us that usually in the winter months, so your 4 zone forecast coming in for your t g i f 66 for San Francisco. Along the peninsula coast mid 60s. The bayside getting into the 70s even in the north at 72 for san bruno and also south San Francisco burning game 7 to 8. We grab some 80s as we head down south San Carlos City 84 palo alto 79 from Mountain View in the south bay most readings holding in the mideighties 91 from morgan hill, us condos pair of eights lower 80s along the east bay shoreline tri valley over the east bay hills lower 90s, dublin about 88. So still pretty steady were going to hold on to this probably for the weekend before we really start moving here, 91 for concord 88 for walnut creek 73 for oakland, and up to the north bay most of the 90s are campaigned in Solano County 79 going on for filet o also for napa 88 for sonoma, 86 santa rosa in mid 80s, heading down one o one. So for the 7 day forecast here is the move that we see from monday into tuesday. Its possible we might spike up around 100 or so in some spots, breaking it down by wednesday that maybe a little bit optimistic to get to the lower 90s but then by thursday and friday we should see some relief from that Second Barrier bridges and such robin phil cent. All right, lets check in on the morning commute and see how the commuters are doing out there starting off with our busiest bridge that is 92 west the san mateo bridge, were looking at traffic leaving hayward on the right and its crowded between the tolls and the high rise thats completely normal up and over the high rise for foster city, its fine and then connecting with one oh one 2. 88 youll be fine the left traffic coming into hayward picking up a little bit but not bad at all going east. All right, lets head over to the richmond sandra fell bridge were checking the commute from the east bay to the north bay, its picking up a little bit here too but not bad at all no delays no problems were hot spot free. No issues connecting with highway one o one on through sandra fell all right were checking out the golden gate from the north bay to San Francisco. The only big problem here is the fog right, its pretty foggy across the span foggy an a for chp to issue a special fog advisory for those of you traveling across the Golden Gate Bridge so take it easy dont forget those headlights and wipers well check more traffic coming up later. Ok, robin sounds good well during the early days of the czu lightning complex fires. A few residents ignored the Evacuation Order to try and save their homes now take a look at the cell phone video. It shows bin loma native kyler ruskin and his friends, pumping water to fight the flames this isnt bonny doon now ruskin says that he and 7 others spent 5 days, using whatever equipment they could get their hands on to try and help create a perimeter and to douse some flames they were able to save his friends house and many more, but it still was a heartbreaking week for them. So the water plant in and start battling that you think you have one house out you can look back to what got him.
