Thank you this is a map showing the evacuation areas for those living in san mateo and santa cruz counties where the czu august lightning fires are burning the red areas indicate mandatory Evacuation Orders, the yellow is an evacuation warning that means you could be called at any time to get out of the area, lets get right to the weather we want to show you radar image of whats going on outside this is a big picture showing the. Whole west coast and you can see that green area heading right to the bay area. And that of course is bringing the concern about lightning conditions of course weather conditions key when it comes to fighting these fires, lets check our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow lawrence yeah guys you know what were seeing some Lightning Strikes beginning to develop outside right now you see all that moisture coming up from the south remnants of genevieve now making its way into the state. Were going to see more that working its way through in fact its looking like its just beginning to pick up watch there. We just saw a Lightning Strike that right near the scu fire complex there east of milpitas near fremont thats dangerous not because the Lightning Strike itself because we get strong downburst with these thunderstorms so you get some 40 some 60 mile an hour down burst from the storms certainly that can jump the fire lines in a hurry so were watching that very closely right now is see the cell thats causing that out there in that area but scattered showers popping up all around and certainly these trying to make their way into the bay area. Weve had some reports of some raindrops out there certainly a chance you could see some raindrops but just not enough to wet the ground to slow the chance of fires down. Around the bay area. Thats why red flag warnings continuing outside as well scattered popup showers around the rest of the area, but were just getting into the unstable air mass now that means things are going to cook in overnight tonight, but the models start to pick up on that as well want to run them through this very slow with the overnight tonight. You see some of the cells already popping up around the bay area but watch what happens as we roll this forward there you go model starting to pick up on this about 10 oclock or so that may be picking up on that cell that produced some lightning that now moving into parts of the east bay, maybe some more Lightning Strikes near free month. Near sturgis these to san jose and then heading a little further to the north as we take due time up to concord right about midnight in the San Francisco, you see some Lightning Strikes possibly with some thunderstorms rotating on through then also as we head in toward after midnight, becoming a little more scattered more that moisture moving up into the north bay maybe more that thunderstorm activity headed in that direction too and then scattered showers kind of on and off throughout the night overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. I think after about 5 oclock in the morning or so things begin to settle down a little bit. But theyre now the potential that we could see more activity developing after that by the afternoon so we have a long way to go overnight tonight with a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms and the potential for more fires around the bay area of course we have the very latest for you right here on kron 4 news. In santa rosa noel. And thats right ken and pam you mentioned that the l a new fire has a little bit more containment tonight which is positive of course but earlier we were listening to cal fire and basically they said they are definitely not out of the woods just yet when it comes to this fire. It is large and its burning across several different counties now crews are really focus tonight on that threat of potential dry some winds that are going to be changing this evening. I know that they are definitely a little stronger out here than they were the last couple of days which makes me a little bit concerned but. Resources weve heard are incredibly thin as well now im here at the Sonoma Air Attack base is at the Sonoma County air port here for cal fire they pulled in around 7 oclock this evening said they were grounded for the evening and they wouldnt pick up until it was safe to do so tomorrow morning i do want to show you some video we received though earlier today of a chopper. In healdsburg now this chopper was filling up with water healdsburg just about. Northwest of where i am right now this chopper finding of the water that it could to then go ahead and attack the l a new fire from the air they there battling the walbridge fire just one of the many that are included in this l a new lightning complex now again as i mentioned that dry lightning is expected to potentially happen sometime between tonight and through tuesday is what cal fire is preparing for they say they do have a plan if more lightning if more dry lightning starts more fires and they want to folks who live in Northern Areas to have a plan as well i was at the Evacuation Center earlier today i spoke with one woman. She says despite officials having lifted some of the Evacuation Orders allowing people to go back shes from force bill and she lost everything in the tubbs fire. She says shes just going to try and wait it out. Just city declarations have been lifted not know im not real not super confident about you know going back on it just in light of life. Win win. You know i i know what the win. And stop and and students kind of ride it out its going to gauge it. You know because originally i think they said through tuesday. Yeah, shes sticking to that original order which i think many people are the Evacuation Center was pretty packed. She said also that the Evacuation Center seem to be like a well oiled machine this time around she also during the kincade fire and has evacuated several times as a prior to that as well and she says this time around they have space for people with animals even with the covid restrictions and staying 6 feet apart from other people that it does seem to be kind of a well oiled machine over there so thats good news for those who did have to evacuate for now a live in Sonoma County noelle bellow kron 4 news noel real quick are you seeing any rainfall up there yet where have we had lawrence reporting that there are some areas that are having rainfall already. Not where i am but like i mentioned earlier the wind is definitely stronger than it was yesterday yesterday it was very still last night when i was out here in Sonoma County today. Im definitely getting more gusts of wind. But no of rain just yet here again at the Sonoma County airport all right. Thank you know al bello reporting live. Its 10 contained tonight, heres the latest evacuation map from cal fire for the scu complex again everything in red is a mandatory Evacuation Order and has a lot of territory. The good news is not a lot of homes out there, its mostly foothills around mount diablo while those living in the yellow areas have received an evacuation warning and they could be asked to leave the area at a moments notice or this afternoon the city of freeman is the latest city to issue an evacuation warning take a look at this map of the area that was released by officials you can see that the warning is for the mission, san jose area Mission Hills and the van years avalons area. Dan thorn is live in morgan hill with more dan. Well ken and pam weve seen people throughout the night. Coming down easton avenue returning collecting any items that they could get from their homes this eastern part morgan hill is under an Evacuation Order right now in this involves several communities that are near henry coe state park where firefighters have been battling some flames in that the communities include jackson lake holiday a holiday lake is states and also along the thomas people understandably on edge here tonight, cars and have been filled up with anything that people have been able to grab on an Evacuation Order was issued in these areas mainly because of concerns in terms of weather activity that wind which could also help spread these fires and also pick up any embers on from the burning fires and send them into these communities so far in this immediate area we havent seen anything in terms fire activity or even whether activity for that matter a lot of these homes are in hilly and rural terrain firefighters continuing to make sure that people are out of those areas as of 5 oclock today police shut down from hill road up and through east dunn to residents, not letting them get into these because of any dangers that could be up there city officials pretty much telling us tonight that for anyone who is looking to stay behind it is simply not worth the risk. It comes with the territory where we live and its unfortunate. You know i think we made all the right decisions in terms of being ready in terms of what we packed. As we look at whats happened in some of the other areas here in our state the past few years. Dont want to take a chance. We have been seeing police making the rounds patrolling through this area here just making sure that anybody doesnt try to sneak up into those areas because of the potential danger and also because they want to keep people who are trying to take advantage of the situations such as people looking to steal and loot in these for people that have evacuated these areas they have been told to go to Silverado High School there you can have some much we also saw some people are giving out bottled water on and information on where they might be able to stay if they are unable to find some place in this area that would they would be able to go we have heard that some people have been looking getting set up in hotels that are in the milpitas but theyre still im a lot more information that that are going to be looking to get that includes whether or not theyll be able to get back to their homes at some point over the next day or so it seems like right now authorities really just want people to avoid being in these areas thats just pretty much what people have to do is just focus on getting morgan hills City Government has stopped on their website letting people know about whats happening and its important for people to to follow that ken and pam. Dan thanks very much more on the possibility of fire evac people in fremont are on edge tonight watching and waiting to find out if they too will be forced to evacuate because of the scu complex fire today, cal fire issued an evacuation warning for People Living in the foothill neighborhoods below mission peak. Which is just one block away from here sunday calfire issuing evacuation warnings for folks in parts of fremont near mission peak as flames from the scu lightning complex fire inch closer across the peak, threatening a number of homes. The city now urging people to be prepared to leave at a moments notice. Vargas who is it located in the evacuation zone but lives just a block away says shes not taking any chances. When we come back well check in on the north bay where the lnu complex fires the lnu complex lighting fires still burning across 4 counties tonight and Napa Sonoma Solano and lake counties it has burned more than 347,000 acres, its 21 contained at least 4 people have died for other people have been injured trying to put the fire out and our Team Coverage continues live with kron fours noelle bellow who is live at the Sonoma County airport tonight. Noel do smell a lot of smoke there tonight. I got a little whiff of some smoke just earlier but again you know it dies down and then picks back up as the night goes on as i mentioned it is getting when deer out here tonight and what cal fire crews are definitely going to be paying attention to is whether or not we get any of that dry lightning out here tonight and whether or not that sparks any more fires. Cal fire says they do have a plan for if it does and they are hoping that folks who live in these areas have a plan to evacuate as well that dry lightning they were potentially striking a nap, but tonight i know that theyre watching that very very closely this is the lnu is the second largest wildfire in california state history and they say that crews are stretched then im here at the Sonoma Air Attack base where i watched as some of the aircrafts came back in earlier this evening, theyre grounded for the night and they will hopefully be able to get back up tomorrow morning and continue to fight this fire from above we do have crews from all over the state actual all over the state as well as across the country we have some from oregon. We have some crews also from Washington State as well as the national guard, i saw a fire truck earlier today from Orange County and there are a lot of resources coming to us but cal fire said today, they are 100 not out of the woods at all and like i said i was at the Evacuation Center earlier and spoke with several different people who basically said you know theyre trying to just stay as optimistic as possible. We reserve. I think would be the right word. Because i dont know how many of my friends are made it out. And how many stayed behind this honor reserved for a member moment. I want to go motion bankrupt on me so it reserved. And thats kind of the at their the attitude that i we got from the several people that i talked to earlier today, everyone kind of saying well ive got myself i have you know some important personal things and if i go back in my home isnt there then ill deal with that then im not trying to stress myself out with it now. There were some evacuation warnings or excuse Evacuation Orders that kind of shifted to warnings where people were able to go back into their homes if they wanted. But that was at your own risk and i know several people who decided not im just going to stay and to make sure that no more fires pop up again as the crews are watching for that dry lightning that could potentially happen tonight for now live in Sonoma County noelle bellow kron 4 news noel. Thank you and speaking of those evacuations thousands of people in the sonoma an adjoining lake in parts of napa county. Have been ordered to leave their homes. Heres evacuation map. The red areas are the Evacuation Orders words mandatory to leave yellow refers to an evacuation warning where you should stand by to leave People Living there are not required to leave at the moment, but if that call comes in the yellow areas they need to be ready to go. Lets take a look at the video from Big Basin Redwoods State Park this video was shot yesterday shows the damage caused by this czu lightning complex fire. The State Park Headquarters is now charged pretty much says you can see destroyed large redwoods were down across some of the roads and also redwoods were seen with fire. Coming out from inside of trees, it is just heartbreaking to see all those big beautiful trees go down your vehicle state park property accessible roads all destroyed by this fire about 4 gayle ong has been covering developments in Santa Cruz County says last week she has the latest now gayle. And can a firefighters are focusing on saving homes and i actually have video to show you just how theyre doing there were some back burning being done in Boulder Creek and that is on highway 9 right by the Boulder Creek Community Church of you could firefighters theyre creating a contingency line and they set fires to control the fire lines. The right. So close to a home. So that home has been spared i did end up driving along highway 9 from belton all the way up to Boulder Creek lot of the homes as far as the eye can see. We are standing looking good. Another concern of course is going to be the anticipated thunder and lightning tonight, so how are they preparing for the al they have crews stationed throughout the field on the ground just ready to go and put out fires if they burned a in the meantime conditions out here in scott valley, it has not been windy, it is still smoky though, and i will just have to wait and see what happens that. They did have a good firefighting weather day today and i was told it was the best live in scott valley, gayle, ong kron 4 news. A name that is what cal fire saying about the crime against one of their own a thief broke into a fire commanders Department Vehicle. And stole his wallet. We mentioned that earlier but there are some very bad effects from that kron fours justine waltman has details for us shes live in our newsroom justine. Pam weekends really disgusting what this thief is accused of doing and this happened to a santa cruz. Fire ground commander battling the czu lightning complex fires. His car was that the bonny doon fire station on empire grade in Santa Cruz County. And while that firefighter was out saving lives and homes, somebodys got inside of his Department Vehicle and stole his wallet and then took everything out of his bank account purchases for also made and at least one of the Firefighters Credit cart. And its unfortunate sickening one of our our ground commanders in that area. While out taking care of business and directing the firefighting crews. Somebody entered his vehicle his apartment vehicle and stole person vehicles include his wallet. And rain as they could tell so thats the extent that these people have gone again this is why we have asked. For people to evacuate the Sheriffs Department has done a fantastic job in trying to derail this but again. This is what we have as a its saddening its sickening were doing everything we can to try to to help the community. And get this cal fire is now warning that there is a fake go fund me account that circulating to raise money for that firefighter, but again if you see that go fund me account it is fake the account is not associated with cal fire anyone connected to the department. The Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Department tells me that they have detectives working on this case right now looking for Surveillance Video and any other evidence that could lead to identifying the suspect. Theyre also now working with the bank to get to the bottom of this live right now in the newsroom, im Justine Waldman kron 4 news in thank you all right, lets take a look at the weather want to show you show you a picture. Of the dramatic sunset shot from a sailboat at the brisbane marina. This shot was taken earlier tonight right about sunset, it looks like the fact the sky is on fire. Its a. Friesen its Something Else him. Lawrence is joining us now lauras the smoke from all those fires changes the colors of the sky it also has really the air quality of course, yes certainly can make some beautiful pictures like that, but yeah if you have some respiratory issues boy its been tough. These last few days with all the fires burning around the bay area now the air quality starting to improve a little bit tonight. Weve had a little westerly wind kick in and little southwest component to add to that little smoke and along the coastline where people had nice fresh air over the past couple days, some of that smoke coming up from a the santa cruz area making its way back in across the peninsula, but air quality improving tonight still on healthy though in place like fremont it live more the tri valley, san ramon conquer very unhealthy air quality right now. And looks like it will stay that way on and off remember is a very small particulates smoke particulates are extremely small so it just takes a small change in the wind and that will drastically change the weather in your neighborhood, but right now its looking very unhealthy place like the east bay in the south bay. They trop a lot of the blues or equality expect along the coastline and the north bay for tomorrow as well right weve been tracking scary situation kind of setting up of course we all the Lightning Strikes last weekend and the fire starting there now weve got the remnants of genevieve now starting to move into the state bringing with another round of some lightning and some of that now beginning to enter into the bay area thunderstorms popping up a few scattered light showers you see some Lightning Strikes toward a parts of the east bay see that strike right there that one just coming down right now so a couple of strikes now beginning to show up at least across parts of the bay and going to continue to see more of that as we head through the evening in fact the cell just moving through right now this moving right over the fire complex of the su fire complex making its way just east of morgan hill in san jose. Not worried about Lightning Strikes law the grounds already burned but worried about the downdraft from these thunderstorms you get some very strong downdraft maybe 40 maybe 60 Miles Per Hour that could blow right through any of the fire line. So thats certainly a big concern overnight tonight. And its tomorrow morning as well scattered popup showers around the rest the bay area most just barely light thats popping up outside the winds. Well they pick it up this afternoon moving from the southwest and some of those winds upwards of 20 Miles Per Hour. So not the best fire conditions by this evening as weve seen those winds begin to pick up also red flag warnings continuing around the entire bay area with the possibility of more Lightning Strikes overnight tonight and possibly as tomorrow evening as well out there right now smokefilled skies got some some tropical moisture overhead and looks like more of the chance of thunderstorms as we take the night tonight and tomorrow morning all this remnants of the former hurricane its fall apart now, but a lot of that moisture kind of wrapping around that big ridge of High Pressure getting caught up in that circulation brazen that unstable air in here and there you go a chance of thunderstorms overnight tonight and in throughout tomorrow 2 guys that slaves back to you all right lawrence well as he said rain already coming down in some sections of the bay area tonight coming up were going to check in on whats happening in the scu complex fires in wildfire coverage continues in the east bay and the south bay you can see on your screen where the scu lightning complex fires are burning in alameda contra costa santa clara and parts of san joaquin counties ames from those fires have burned more than 343,000 acres theres 10 containment 4 people have been hurt 5 structures destroyed and 20,000 others are still threatened tonight. Our Live Team Coverage continues with kron 4 dan thorn covering the scu complex fires. Hes live in morgan hill dan. Well ken and pam are in the eastern section in morgan hill tonight, thousands of people have had to evacuate these areas under orders the fire right being battled combative by firefighters in the area henry coe state park that is just beyond this ridge line that is here all of these communities have had to evacuate. Weve seen a number of people in cars and trucks that have been loading up their gear on trying to get out out of their communities. These places that are along jackson oaks holiday laika States Thomas grade people understandably on edge tonight. One of the big thats been surrounding these orders has this this concern around the change in weather including some wind which could help spread these fires are or maybe even send some of the members of the burning fires already into these most of these homes are in tough places to get around very hilly rural sort of terrain at 5 oclock today, there was a hard closure along east dunn avenue up from hill road police had to close that off today they want to keep people out of danger you want to keep people from going up into these areas because its just not safe for them a lot of these evacuees that we talked with not knowing if they left tonight it will be the last time that they maybe will see their homes. Detective. We are facing try to pack up all the pictures and stuff like that. Weve got to get going up their living in california. You know experiencing wildfires is certainly a obviously up where we live. Theyre in the hills. Morgan hill city Officials Say they have been trying to keep your boys form as informed as possible. To make sure that people were prepared in case they would have to evacuate these areas, im speaking with police that were around here they were saying that theyre going to continue to block off this road here because they dont want any on people that are looking to take advantage of the situation by going up in their on and stealing things are or possibly looting. Dry lightning has also been another concern thats been out here but in terms of a difference in the weather that weve had over the hour or so on not much has changed here and not has been seen in terms of any getting any closer to these homes in this immediate area for people that are seeking help they have been told to go to and some high school there that are really fun. There are resources that are available there if you dont have a place to say to stay weve been told that they are setting people up in hotels and maybe a little difficult to get to considering that they are probably going to be in the mold pitas area as opposed to being in this immediate area about people are trying to do the best they can with what they have ken and pam. You can hear the rain pitterpatter there we turn to our weather and getting reports of rain this is video coming in from oakland from a viewer in may be a little difficult to see it. But you can hear it more like living in the midwest and now here in the bay area were checking in with our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow im talking about the summertime rain and lightning, yeah you see that all the time in the midwest not so much around here not so much around here, but we can get the storms of fall apart like in august. Thats actually a Company Interest in the weather long time ago was similar type of thunderstorms but. Here we go out there tonight fire near a dam was talking you see the fires that youre spending all the way toward the central valley. And now were starting to see some Lightning Strikes beginning to move in that is some of that subtropical moisture that is wrapping around in that direction so far wind has not been an issue so much there but they get those thunderstorms overhead. It certainly can change in a hurry as we take it for the north now you can see in a vacaville, the winds kind of picking up this afternoon can switch in directions more of a southwesterly direction brief time this afternoon, some of those winds are upwards of 20 Miles Per Hour. They have backed off a little bit tonight as we take you toward the Santa Cruz Mountains you see things have calmed down a little kind of swirling around here more of a southerly component that brought some of that smoke back in along the coastline making itsnway further along the peninsula today but right now that is some good news. So far they havent had a really large change in the wind so this evening though things could get interesting you can see the thunderstorms out there whenever you throw thunderstorms in the mix certainly that could make things intense very rapidly some of these storms begin to move in you see just the past hour here weve had a couple Lightning Strikes now showing up just east of san jose this over the fire complex there. The su fire complex so that could get things going there they could see some strong downdraft money some of those thunderstorms and thats what were worried about some of those strong downdraft from those storms could cause some problems there it is right now just scattered showers the Lightning Strike right there just to the north and then continuing to see some of that moisture spread across the bay area but widely scattered right now youre not to see a whole lot of rain with this as youre seeing a lot of it evaporate before it gets the surface right want to take you through time here get to 10 oclock tonight, theres a possible thunderstorm near fremont being picked up by our highresolution computer model here then youre conquered as we head toward 11 maybe another one moving in along the peninsula that moving up in the San Francisco as we head toward midnight so thats what were watching out for these popup thunderstorms could possibly spark more fires possibly spread the fires already burning right now looks like that continues on and off throughout the night tonight and then by tomorrow morning looks like things begin to settle down. At least a little bit.
