Tonight. We are learning they have been deadly investigators say at least 4 people have died. In fires. Thank you for joining us at 10 oclock everybody im grant lotus and im Vicki Liviakis investigators say of the ford s 3 were in napa county one in Solano County they didnt provide. Any other details on whether those who died were residents or firefighters will show you a map now of where the biggest fires are burning tonight. But theyre calling the scu lightning complex fire. Its the biggest. Scorching more than a 137,000 acres in contra costa Alameda Santa clara. Stanislaw san san joaquin counties toward the bottom of your screen the seas eu august lightning complex fires burning in the mountains and san mateo and santa cruz counties where people are unaccounted for homes have been destroyed fire forcing thousands of people to evacuate their. And finally the lnu lightning complex that is burning in a huge area of the north bay. Leveling homes impacting thousands of People Living in sonoma and napa solano lake and yolo counties and we learned tonight this fire or this series of fires is responsible for at least 2 deaths. We have Team Coverage on the fires are conference taylors sacking gayle ong there on the front lines of these fires burning in Sonoma CountySan Mateo County or else so the money and shes tracking the s c you lightning complex fire in our newsroom and meteorologist risa rodriguez is keeping her eyes on the weather conditions. And we want to begin with the lnu complex fires again responsible for 4 deaths 3 in napa county one in Solano County these fires have now grown to 215,000 acres. Containment is still at 0 . 480 structures have been destroyed a 125 others have been damaged and right now the entire complex again. 0 contained and this is a closer look at where those fires are burning again they span from solano napa and all the way up to to sonoma. And thats where we find kron 4 s Taylor Bisacky tonight who joins us with the latest taylor. Grant vicki right along kinley drive same places before and ill tell you a lot of people still pulled over on the side of the road watching this fire. I know its not really picking up on the camera but you can see the glow from the flames back here behind me. They also for a Reference Point im also near dry creek road which is one of the many closures in this area and healdsburg its actually very close to one o one as well now if you take a look at the video shot earlier thats what we are seeing and you can see right now the start but this is what the biggest concern is now they also bring up something that cal fire said earlier today, they said that their number one priority of all the l and you. Complex fires was the wall ridge fire thats now burning 20,000 acres in earlier today when some of my coworkers were out here they said that they werent seeing any of those air drops the good news. Is while i was out here today. Those resources eventually came we saw many more of those air drops to come. The walbridge fire as we know it is extending from guerneville all the way to west of healdsburg as i mentioned theres a lot of people have been just watching this progress throughout the day talked to a few people. He saw and described what they saw take a to smoke a lot of box mug which indicates to me structure and for watching the planes come in and do some fire retardant dumps. So actually this is a doesnt seem like its slowing down. I mean its nice to see the planes. I dont know if you noticed and buzzing around like honestly finally have getting it from the air which is great and i think theyre more hitting the very north end of it it looks like and this can emerge eastern part. They havent had that much it also plans thats something to stop and see what happens otherwise its up to the grades. Now main area of concern is also that mill creek further along it gets closer to the range which is where those flames are behind me. I spoke to a woman who lived out there and her husband were basically using all the hours left of daylight to get their home ready get the horses out there go tell the farm animals out she says that a lot of her neighbors have chosen to stay behind in a stick this out and that are you know what what progress is throughout the night but i will say that a lot of firefighters are back there to small skinny road. A lot of firefighters back there didnt see many people but i saw a lot of cars which means that most people probably were staying at home. So we want everyone to Pay Attention to those evacuations, especially once they can become mandatory because of course that means that there is an immediate threat to your life. Will continue to watch the progress of this fire and keep everyone updated. Grant vicki. A tale you can see the winds blowing has that picked up throughout the night and hows the air quality where you are. Grant its definitely picked up throughout the night when i first got here is a little bit more still but as you can see from time to time in the live shot my hair is blowing around so obviously thats a major concern for firefighters, ill tell you when i first got here. The he was smoke and the flames are a more so directly behind me its now moved to the southwest part of healdsburg at least the look on and that were seeing right here more to the southwest so thats obviously a big concern and as for the air quality of course, not good out here not good at all. Alright taylor the psac ii live for us tonight in Sonoma County. Thank you taylor and want to give you a look now at the Evacuation Orders and warnings currently in effect in Solano County again anybody living in the red area is under a mandatory Evacuation Order. The yellow indicating an evacuation warning meaning you should be ready to go at a moments notice. Deputies will be in those warning areas should the evacuation be upgraded also in napa county the community of various a highlands, it in ruins tonight. Several homes or are gone. Cars are melted in the air is filled with smoke and it smells of burning gas. People the hennessy fire it just swept through this neighborhood yesterday and despite a mandatory Evacuation Order, some neighbors stayed behind to protect their homes. Says generals see that house and the move to the next neighbor and same thing there and because i have a big Defensible Space here theyve got all their vehicles over here and parked in. Luckily, we managed to save a few were happy. Fire crews are going to remain on the scene until further notice to knock down any hot spots and protect the homes that are still standing. And we showed you sonoma a moment ago not Solano County but we. Have an evacuation map here now for napa county colors a bit different here, the blue area and these counties designate their colors thats where evacuations are mandatory and the yellow area theres not much of it, but that is where. There are evacuation warnings. This also in the case where there is a shelter where people can go if they want that is that the Crosswalk Community church all right. We do have some good happening in the north bay tonight were learning that all Evacuation Orders are lifted now in vacaville. With the exception of south of foothill drive and west of alamo drive from money best avenue to interstate 80 kron fours michelle kingston shows us what conditions are like in vacaville. Nothing but smoke behind me here in these hills i am just off Pleasant Valley road a road full of homes and barns. That have been destroyed were doing the best that we can with the resources that we have firefighters are stretched thin across the state here in vacaville know crews inside off of Pleasant Valley road thursday afternoon the fire is no longer tearing through the hillsides but some properties are still smoldering an American Flag is waving outside a home where the smoke is thick wildlife struggling to understand what is going on in 30 years and in the fire service. I very rarely seen the extreme. Fire conditions or or firefighters were up against that night the fire jumped interstate 80 on wednesday clogging traffic for hours now we see the devastation the fire left behind fences burned power poles down homes lost the thick smoke still blankets the city with ash still falling from the sky. In vacaville, michelle kingston kron 4 news. All right as we continue to look at evacuation information here are the warnings in orders in effect right now in Solano County anyone in the red area here is under a mandatory Evacuation Order at the yellow area indicates an evacuation warning. Again should be ready to go at a moments notice. Deputies are going to be helping usher people out should evacuations be upgraded. Kron 4 meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez is tracking around all the fires and well start in the north bay bree said yeah lets take a look at the l a new lightning fire near napa 68 degrees in the lower valleys. Relative humidity up to 70 remember just a few days ago. We could cut that in half we were definitely moisture starved there because of the triple digit heat in the north bay. But thanks to the cooler temperatures noticing a lot more relative humidity out there certainly going to help out firefighters and wind speeds 10 Miles Per Hour. But in the highest peaks tracking wind gusts upwards of about 20 Miles Per Hour or less for those of you in the napa area, lets take a look at air quality because we are noticing some pockets of improvement along the southern portion for those of you in the north bay and even right around San Mateo County and even san jose but the poorest air quality. No surprise in the east bay as the wind direction is shifting from the west northwest pushing all of that smoke and ash into the inland valleys of the east me so youre going to have the poorest air quality even through tomorrow as well still unhealthy amounts for everyone else in the bay area and dont forget we are currently under spare the air alert through sunday for the bay area because of that smoke and also pour air pollution back to you grant vicki. Thanks for breeze that these cz you lightning complex fires are growing in size tonight. It is now burned 48,000 acres in san mateo and santa cruz counties. 50 structures have burned up and thats up from 20 structures earlier this afternoon. The c z you complex fire. It is still at 0 containment. 2 firefighters have been hurt within the past 2 hours or so there you see santa cruz campus and surrounding area was evacuate earlier today, the university and acted voluntary evacuations for staff and students sewer. Still on campus during the pandemic but this evening it was upgraded. Earlier tonight, cal fire issued new mandatory Evacuation Orders in san mateo and santa cruz counties in San Mateo County that includes the pesky their beach area Pescadero Creek county park being hollow pescadero saying gregorio aloha on the red barn Russian Ridge openspace skylon the langley hill kron fours gayle ong his all too familiar with all these Evacuation Orders and she joins us now live. Jagr and sheriffs deputies who are leading these orders and both counties they want people to take the warning that will help firefighters get to the fires as much as possible in here in scott valley, right next to the Cal Fire Base Camp this is actually a mandatory evacuation. His own ad we are west of highway 17 so those mountain towns on that side bedlam and i felt and those are mandatory evacuate at under mandatory Evacuation Orders. Some of the issues cal fire has been that dealing with was smoke and the last 2 days but they were able to fly helicopters and air tankers today. We want to show you video that caught fire had tweeted earlier in the day. Their helicopter flying over a northernmost part of Santa Cruz County on highway one at there. Going past water oak creek and the Big Creek Lumber Company smoke with limiting the ability of Aircraft Operations show firefighters tell me that they did get the upper hand for that earlier today. Now i did speak to some residents as you mentioned those new Evacuation Orders i spoke to one man it was actually evacuating the town of bin lowman he stayed here in scott valley and now hes leaving Scotts Valley we hear from him then cal fire on why its important to heed those orders. Theres a lot of people here last night were trying to figure out what to do. So i anticipate or raise a lot of people down south there. Weve been invited to go up north says friends of there its kind of a long dry for now so and i change it around a lot of people left their vehicles and a lot weve got vehicle were leaving here just taken camper down there so we do still face challenges books that have it has become a bit of a challenge with us to try to suppress and take care of those issues with the people still in there. So we do ask that. If you are evacuated please. Stay if youre fast fact the please leave to help us do our job to keep you say and keep our firefighters safe as well. And back here live in scott valley, im seeing more vehicles to leave town on many of them are sleeping in parking lots of the cbs safeway and kmart actually seeing more vehicles. Harveys leave ahead into 17 out. And this area. Overnight is way to fight firefighters are seeing more fire activity so they are concerned about what the winds were picking up earlier but they are and a dying down now but air quality still of heavy smoke in this area which is why im still wearing this and 95 live in Scotts Valley gayle, ong kron 4 news. Thank you gayle were also tracking the s e u lightning complex fires, they have grown in the past few hours the cluster of fires are burning across all 5 counties to the east and to the south kron fours Ella Sogomonian joins us again live from the with more on that l a. Grant and vicki more than 1100 fire crews are still working to get a handle on scu complex fires and they have now consumed more than a 157,000 acres. We know that 2 people were hurt, but we still havent heard of any homes or buildings that have been destroyed thankfully. And here is where those fires are burning scu lightning complex fire is over in Santa Clara Alameda contra costa, san joaquin and stanislaus counties and 20,000 structures are threatened at this time so thats why there are mandatory evacuations in place over in alameda county, those Evacuation Orders remain in place for all of minds road south of mile marker tend to the county line and there are warnings for the city of fremont at mill creek road. And live for us now as we get a check on the 4 zone forecast with meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez yeah, lets take a look at fire conditions with that su lightning fires 67 degrees in san jose relative humidity. Up to 76 so a lot more moisture out there this evening, the last night with wind speeds in the Single Digits so tracking cooler calmer conditions in the bay area. Heres a live look outside Golden Gate Bridge very hazy skies out there with that marine layer off the coast temperatures for the most cooling down into the upper 50s and low 60s throughout the San Francisco peninsula coastline, mid 60s for the east bay shoreline with upper 60s and low 70s as you make your way in lance and an antioch though 76 degrees as you step outside right now overnight lows tonight low to mid 60s but only cooling down to 72 degrees for those of you in antioch and lets take a look at your friday micro Climate Outlook temperatures cooling down in fact downtown San Francisco cooling down to 72 degrees. Still to come we continue to see new dramatic videos and pictures of wildfires raging across the bay area tonight cal fire tweeting this video of the seas eu august lightning complex fire which is forcing more evacuations tonight and send teo and santa welcome back to our continuing wildfire coverage right now we go to the north bay. The woodward fire thats threatening more than 1600 structures in marin county that fire grew to 2000 acres just tonight in Point Reyes National seashore it is still 0 contained at this hour there are evacuation warnings in effect for those People Living west of highway one from sir Francis Drake boulevard in a lima down to bolinas those evacuations are mandatory, but officials are warning that all of this could change if the winds pick up. Officials say this fire like so many others burning right now was started by lightning and earlier today we spoke with sergeant britain schneider from the river in county Sheriffs Office about the challenges emergency crews are facing. One would be the terrain that the fires in its in very steep and dense vegetation. Thats really hard access. We are taking advantage of some of the Point Reyes National seashore trails that are in the area to try and make access to the fire but that rain is definitely one and the strain that were adding or that difficult access is that we dont have aerial Resources Available to us which would greatly assist us in being able to establish a perimeter around the fire. So theres a couple Different Things that are working in our favor but were making the best of it and we have a lot of dedicated firefighters and other agencies that are here working too. Do their best to make access to the fire and try and start those containment lines. And now look at exactly where that fire is burning you can see its there along the coast. This is an interactive map that you can find on our web site kron 4 dot com that shows all of the fires burning right now and where all of the Evacuation Centers are we also have a list of up to date Evacuation Orders and warnings on our website. And were following breaking news for you tonight is several fire for wildfires are burning all across the bay area coming up. A woman shares her story of evacuating. And because were committed for the long haul, the credit lasts your full policy term. The geico giveback. Helping riders focus on the road ahead. One reason cal fires having such a tough time getting all the flames under control is because their resources are being stretched so thin and earlier today we spoke with a woman from santa cruz who found out today that she lost her home in the seas eu lightning complex fire and she believes the lack of resources played a big part. We were told that it was monkey fred fired off. Cal fire actually pulled out of our neighborhood last night before house burned because they decided it was unsafe and they wanted to volunteers to pull out. There are still people who are not on the volunteer team, but who are neighbors. Much i mean its a Small Community people know each other people care about each other people take the time to help each other during these times and there are people still trying to fight the fires there in pine ridge which is where it lands. We are live. And theyre not getting the support they need from cal fire if were not going to have enough cal fire firemen. Then we need to have goodbye and 13. 8 we had a a fire i talk to them artnet fire you dont buy or fire station. The volunteers came up to help because our monitors were defending the neighborhood and they defended the fire station. You can still see if you. Well you could see her in a public cant but for years you could see a perfect square all around our fire station because the delta fire team defended the fire station they protected half of an oak tree burned but the half that was close to the station they kept from burning because they were protecting our fire station. Thats what our community do for each other. And despite all of the tragedy and chaos families are some of them taking time to thank firefighters. This is the town of felton and San Mateo County where a mandatory Evacuation Order was issued at 8 oclock this morning. Some people you saw leaving signs thanking firefighters other left directions to how to find water on their properties, one person left a sprinkler here running on the rooftop. So far the seas eu august lightning a complex fires have scorched a total of 48,000 acres in san mateo and santa cruz counties, 50 structures have been destroyed nearly 21,000 are being threatened. And right now the entire complex is 0 contained. And that is where we find kron fours gayle ong who joins us live with the latest on conditions there long night gayle. Yeah grandson of a firefighters say they see more activity with a fire overnight so as the late into the night as you could feel winds picking up earlier but around later on this evening that is when theyll most likely see the activity that is what theyre concerned about a they were able to fly. Their helicopter in tankers earlier today at lets show you some video that cal fire tweeted just over northern part of Santa Cruz County on highway one o you can see some burn areas there going south pass water week and then a over to Big Creek Lumber Company. Of has really grown in the last few days at 48,000 acres as 0 containment. The last today smoke was also limiting the ability of Aircraft Operations. They firefighters that they they had a they had made some progress with that but again well have to see what happened through the night thats where the most concern is the sheriffs deputies both county san mateo and santa cruz counties are asking the public to make sure to take these evacuation warning seriously so firefighters can get to the fire as soon as possible and they want to clear those roads make those path. And im here in scott valley where this area is under mandatory evacuations that this is where people who are escaping a mountain towns like low. Been loman and felt and theyre coming here sleeping in parking lots and at its peak to a man earlier who was just leaving to go to watsonville the park his rv of there. Thats very latest right by Cal Fire Base Camp. So and this is where all the crews are grounded for the night grant and vicki ok gayle ong reporting for us said, thank you enough time to take a little breather its been a long day for you. The s c you lightning fire complex fire is also threatening the Lick Observatory. Its been around since 1888 and earlier today astronomer Eleanor Gates spoke with our kron ons Sanaz Tahernia about the efforts to save this Historic Building in whether its ever been in this much timber danger before. There have certainly been other fires that threatened the observatory in the past but nothing of this so scale and this fastmoving weve had small brush fires that have been taking care of quickly out of their record profits but im not aware of any fire major fire like this moving through the observatory and threatening the buildings like this one did last night. And its good news to hear that there are crews out there trying to clear the way create more Defensible Space around their because and he gives toy its been around for so long it would be so tragic for for it to get damaged. Now eleanor is there any thing within the observatory around the observatory that could potentially withstand a fire. You know its its i if im not sure theres any building up there thats completely fire through. Certainly are Main Visitor Center has a lot of Defensible Space around it. 120 inch telescope our Largest Research telescope. Is pretty robust. But theres so much history and so many structures on Mount Hamilton thats a tiny fraction of the buildings that are up that need to be protected. All right to the l a new complex fires now this group of fire stretches across 5 counties in the north and that includes sonoma napa and a solano counties there. These fires have now grown to 215,000 acres. Still 0 contained at this hour theyre responsible for 4 deaths 3 in u Solano County. 480 structures have been destroyed and 125 others have been damaged right now the entire complex is 0 contained our kron fours taylor sackey joins us now from Sonoma County with the latest. Well, this is the view from mill creek road you can see those flames and the smoke getting awfully close to the ridge up there and thats the main concern theres a lot of homes up there actually talked to a woman whose family has been one of the first to ever live in this area and she says of course this is very concerning for her and her family her husbands actually up there now using all the hours left of daylight to dig lines to get their home fire ready. The other concern is they have a lot of animals so theyve already gotten out some of their horses brought them down. Mill valley road or mill creek road rather and gotten them to safety, but they still have some sheep and some goats that theyre worried about as for this area, you know it is concerning because if you look over this way. More towards the west you can see black black thick smoke, obviously thats not a good thing that usually means that its a structure and sadly i am hearing a few pops which i dont know if thats some sort of explosion from the fire whats going on but not a good sound here when a fires obviously burning really quickly here. Now one of the good things though that i have seen is finally were starting to see some of those helicopters. Those planes dropping on top of this the thick brush up here. I know earlier today when other reporters were out here. We didnt see that as much ive already seen about 3 or 4. So that is definitely making some progress some more resources are getting on top of this fire. And again this is the walbridge fired. This is the main concern for cal fire. They said that earlier today and the whole l and you you know the lightning complex fires, this one was the one that theyre worried about and as you can see i just showed you it is moving very fast. I also want to mention that. This area of healdsburg was given. Evacuation warning Late Wednesday night or wednesday, rather, you know a lot of the people have chosen to stay here despite that the woman i spoke to who lives up there in the hill she tells me that a lot of her neighbors have been stubborn theyre deciding to a lot of them getting their homes ready. I will tell you joe further mill creek road. You quickly lose service i barely have any here and a further along that road you cant theres no one to see inside. But still cars are in the driveway looks like people are still home and have their things well keep an eye on this area, this is in healdsburg again and as soon as we hear anything we see any progress on the fire we will let you know back to you. And great news at Lick ObservatoryMount Hamilton camera is back online. So it is still safe as of 2 hours ago so great news there. Lets take a look at temperatures out there right now as you head out for thursday night tracking widespread 50s 60s along the coast of tracking that cool sea breeze cooling down temperatures for pacific and Half Moon Bay in the upper 50s low 60s for those of you in downtown San Francisco and san jose also in the 60s at 67 degrees with mid 60s for Oakland Livermore 67 degrees conquered though in the low 70s, a little bit warm out there even at this 10 oclock hour with an app at 60 degrees and santa rosa degree cooler at 67 degrees. So lets take a look at wind speeds out there right now we are noticing pretty calm to breezy winds in the teens fortunately not tracking does for downtown San Francisco that 30 mile per hour range like we were a few hours ago in stormtracker 4 tracking that fog being starting to make its way towards Half Moon Bay cooling down temperatures there and inching closer to the rest of the bay area coastline. This evening futurecast for is going to show some patchy coastal overnight drizzle mainly near about half moon than it is going to extend into the east bay shoreline but then we will notice it hugging the immediate coast of the bay area for most of our friday afternoon and evening. So its good to see a lot more moisture out there but very hazy conditions as we take a live look outside from the east bay over berkeley overnight lows tonight low to mid 60s but conquered only cooling down to 69 degrees in antioch 72 degrees for your overnight temperatures in daytime highs tomorrow. No one in the triple digits fortunately in fact tracking widespread 60s and 70s along the San Francisco peninsula coastline of downtown San Francisco at 72 degrees about 5 to 10 degrees above average for most bay area cities low 80s for those of you along the east bay shoreline and low to midnineties as you make your way inland. So thanks to all that moisture were tracking from that marine layer really going to help out firefighters, its getting pushed thanks to that stronger seabreeze this evening in new york 10 at 10 outlook overall going to see temperatures in the mid 90s for at least the tent next 10 days cooling down though in the low 90s 10 days from now so not until about 2 weeks from now next sunday, so we are going to be Holding Steady for the bay area for the next couple of days, mostly sunny skies back to you grant vicki.
