The woodward fires burning at the Point Reyes National seashore in marion county. Right now at this hour crews are in a race to try and save homes and property from those fastmoving flames. Good evening. Everyone, im Jonathan Mccall in tonight for ken wayne and im pam moore, thank you for joining us for kron 4 news at 8 oclock tonight. We are going to tackle each of these complex fires, one by one from the damage done to the evacuations which are in effect we begin in the north bay and as we mentioned the largest of those fires, the l a new complex fire. In the last 30 minutes weve learned that this blaze has now grown to more than 124,000 acres now scorched. With more than a 100 structures destroyed and 25,000 more now being threatened you can see on your map exactly the areas that are made up from this particular inferno. Flames as we mentioned now burning in napa sonoma and solano counties. So far this blaze once again scorching more than 124,000 acres to give you an idea of just how much this blaze has exploded thats about triple from cal fires previous update this morning. We do know that 4 people have been hurt so far 105 structures destroyed which is more than twice as many from the previous update. The fire is forcing evacuations and has completely shut down interstate 80 in fairfield kron fours michelle kingston is live there right now with the latest michelle. Im on an overpass just off of i 80 im off the exit airbase expressway want to give you a good look and i 80 right now the backup that youre looking at that is 80 east on the other side where cars are really flying by now is 80 west. 80 is closed in both directions between this exit airbase expressway and the cherry glen road exit. The hillside just a few miles east of me is on fire. I assumed i mike hammer in as best as i could wear upstanding thats what you should be looking at now on your screens and it continues to grow. Theres also a lot of thick brown smoke out that way. There are a number of evacuations in the area because of these fires making the exit on that now very hectic for a lot of people trying to figure out where to go. A side road every back road every a detour. Its just jampacked. Its one thing if its not one thing its another back to back so its crazy right now. And people have pulled over here where i am to figure out the best strategy to get to a safe place a lot of people are also just looking at those flames on the hillside and to say the big lot of people seem to be in a bit of a panic. Were also hearing quite a bit of sirens all around a lot of emergency. A vehicle and also an Important Note theres no estimated time and when i 80 will reopen back to you guys. Michelle thank you described your difficulty in getting to the scene also we see the smoke behind you how thick is the smell we can certainly smell the smoke here in San Francisco. We have is a bit nerve wracking on my way up here just because i was actually headed to but i had to stop because i was starting to get those notifications on my phone that 80 was closed. And so i was able to pull over here as traffic was starting to back up. And i was a little scary just because there are so many people trying to figure out where to go so when i got off of this exit. Actually turned right into a neighborhood and there are just a lot of cars a lot of people trying to navigate figure out the best way to get to a safe place as far as smoke goes you see im not wearing my and 95 thats because where i am right now, im really not smelling much of that smoke what youre looking at there. The fire in the hillside all that smoke probably 3, 4, miles from here. So at least lot of that isnt where i am right now that buckley, but the wind direction of doing okay where im standing however we are starting to see some of that ash falling in the sky jonathan here of have you actually seen any of those cars move youve been on the bridge there that overpass for a few hours now have you actually seen. Any of those cars any of those 18 wheelers that look like theyve been parked there for hours have you seen anything actually move on i 80. The other definitely moving theyre moving very slowly, but its not a complete standstill, what you are seeing though if youre looking at some of those 18 wheelers. Its a lot of them are starting to pull over a lot of people dont really know where to go and theyre afraid that they might not be able to get to where theyre trying to further up at 80 east and i cant so you right now, but where im standing on this overpass i was the only car here when i first got here around 5. 36 oclock. But now theres a. Probably about 10 cars and people all standing out on this overcast with their cell phones taking pictures and like i said is trying to figure out the best way to get to where they need to be. Michelle kingston reporting live. Thank you well be Touching Base with you throughout the stay safe out there as we have already reported this wildfire has destroyed dozens of homes and buildings in vacaville joining us now for an update on the danger facing people who live there the vacaville fire chief Kris Concepcion joins us on the line she thank you for speaking with us at this very difficult time if you could first just give us a status of the situation right now in vacaville as weve reported the l a next complex fire. Which covers vacaville has escalated now to more than a 120,000 acres burned what is the situation in vacaville. Absolutely good evening im so far back though the city proper up back bill to concerns are our primary objective right now and priority is the south our city where the fire jumped. I from the west to the to the east side prompting an additional evacuations in the south part of our city. So thats where a majority of our resources are right now. It sound like a very getting a gaining the upper hand as far as keeping the fire. From getting into the homes. You talked chief you talked about evacuations can you talk a little bit more about how many homes are under the gun right now that are trying to safe. So as part the backbone concern we have a total of about 5500 homes that we estimate are under an Evacuation Order up some sort of it started on the west side of our city and more orchard neighborhoods fault for elbow. And then we additionally had to the shy and brown valley neighborhood in the north part of the city and then just as recently as about 4 oclock that afternoon. I want to fire jumped by 80 then we had to evacuate now part of the city adding another 1000 homes so now we have a total of about 5500 homes, what we estimate that are under an Evacuation Order. See how many homes or structures have do you estimate you may have lost by this time and where are you sending the evacuees. So as far as the number am a short story in sight of the fact that bill im happy to report that actually we have not had homes or structures damaged or destroyed. A powerful even doing a great job keep the fires from. The structures and theyve been successful so far. And as far as the evacuees are concerned. In the day we have published several Evacuation Centers. We have in the right Senior Center you a lot of community center. The skate center which is on a the street and then we have wealthy high school. Are all those people of that that youve issued those evacuations for the out are they safe at this point. Theyre not a obviously there are some folks that are at decided to stay in their homes which will be we think its not not the safe option, but you know we have not had any reports of any injuries of people trying to evacuate. Achieve what are your concerns as we head into the nighttime hours when of course is always more difficult battling these blazes. Well i look at my look and look at the out i it past 8 oclock at night and go 89 degrees still quite hot. And as far as the humidity, its been very very dry today and up the reporting that went picked up hopefully the winds will die down a little bit. And help us far as the weathers concerned though we will fight it and that there are a primary focus right beginning is a tough part of our city where the fire jump. I e d and it last report from our resources are out there it appears that they they are cut or prevent it from spreading. And hopefully well be able to keep out of houses in the top part of our city. Any estimate on when the evacuees might be able to return home. Were monitoring the weather right now is actually up were were taking a look at and a half of our firefighters take a look at the crowded area. You know what chances are uh yeah, its the wind picks up or theyre in campers. That they can spark and start fires and cause us to have to really. It back you know evacuate the that the neighborhoods so what were making those decisions very carefully. Making this quickly as we can we realize its a its a huge inconvenience for people to be evacuated. That theres a lot of uncertainty which creates create a lot of stress and we understand that. So try to make that decision as quickly as possible. But we also want to make sure that we that we keep the community safe. Our residents are safe and so we want to make the best possible indeed a very long night for the fire crews in a vacaville that is. Chris conception, thanks so much for spending time with us tonight chief. Moving on this dramatic video is from earlier today in napa of firefighters trying to douse flames racing through a row of homes actually this wasnt ram rod drive in napa at the southern tip of Lake Berryessa part of whats called the l and you lightning complex new Evacuation Orders are in effect in napa county at this hour. Oakland firefighters meanwhile have contained a fire that broke out on interstate 5. 80 in oakland this evening. The fire first reported at 5. 80 and mountain blvd the right lanes of the west down 5. 80 of keller avenue are blocked after that fastmoving fire escalated from 2 to 3 then 4 alarms meaning for far more fire crews were called in to help battle that flames. Crews did remain on the scene and tonight are now cleaning up. An extended heat wave is continuing to fuel these flames tonight, so what can we expect as we move forward and as we. Head into the overnight hours and first thing as you wake up in the morning. Our Live Team Coverage this wednesday continues with kron 4 chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow yeah, its really a perfect combination to get these fires goal we have the heat way weve got the record the triple digit heat in many places that are seeing the fires. And then we throw the lightning bolts and here you go lightning well, no more today, but the winds have kicked up more of a westerly wind and that was able to push this fire make its way right toward vacaville and into fairfield jumping the 80 there for a while so certainly some very scary spots here. This is moved in right in locations that are very in and around many homes theyre going to watch a very close to the winds coming on the west over the mountain tops here you get in a vacaville look at that coming out of the east so things kind of swirling around out there right now but the general direction has been a westerly component to win these westerly winds are going to kick up each afternoon now so theyre going try to put out these fires these winds will persist and get gusty in the afternoon, maybe some 2030 mile an hour gust to throw that in gets a little more interesting you see all these winds start to filter right in through the delta and make their it toward a vacaville but coming up out of a southwesterly direction. So certainly theyre going to see that happen again for tomorrow so any of these fires that continue to burn that will be some issues as we want to see fire on the hot side, not as hot as its been well see a little more moisture in the atmosphere but each afternoon, those winds are going to kick up some 2030 mile an hour winds. Whenever you see that kind of wind and youve got a fire already started very very hard to stop thats the very latest from here guys back to you. Lawrence thank you for that all right joining us on the phone right now with cal fire is a Robert Foxworthy. Robert king hears. Okay all if you can tell us the very latest on the efforts to battle a number of these fires, especially the l a new fire that is growing in size in napa and sonoma counties. Going or evening we said at a 124,100 acres. You know at yearold percent contained. Extreme fire he behavior with the now we issues was spotting. Basically the fire jumping out ahead of itself and starting portions education on fire. Which made control difficult for firefighters. So doing that multiple areas as we know multiple large in in the general. Sonoma lake napa county area. So all and the combined to challenge firefighting efforts today. Where is your largest area of concern as you move into the nighttime hours. You know anywhere where there is a Larger PopulationBigger Community that would always be priority number one. So with that being said there are multiple areas on the fire that are. Our area the concern is the fact that both of the area the public. Good will be in and among those homes we will have to try and either evacuate them or persuade them to leave. Im sure they have not left the area. Weve seen those images of the last few days the fires just taking over a number of these homes. What is your message for folks we heard from the book of from the vacaville fire chief that some folks even with those evacuations in order are still at home. What is your message tonight for folks who could be still at home. Watching these as you guys are doing your best to try and put them out what is your message for them tonight. Well my not been for the public here. If you are still in the area and you have the ability to leave please do so. It happens into happen every fire. People they were going to say we seen multiple times before in the past and the way these fires have been burning with the intensity and the for all new debate held. Its something that a lot of the public hasnt seen one police fired again in the area that were getting called 911. Requesting for the public to you. I lost come in and help them get out because the conditions are selling 10. And theres times that even our firefighters cant make it back into those areas and then the public it basically on their own until were able to safely make it back into those areas. To help them that decided that. Youve been hearing about so much of the problem with resources being thin all up and down the what is your manpower as you move through the night. So were continuing to get Additional Resources at the time of going on. Those requests have been put out and more equipment is on its way and will continue built in over the next few i 100 say that until this fire is completely out. Well all we need more want more so at this just. I would like the public to know the cruiser in those priority area. Where the biggest are and thats where were concentrating our efforts night. All right Robert Foxworthy with cal fire 124,000 acres with the l a new complex far the largest one of those 3 complexes that were following here across the bay area. Robert thanks so much for your time this was that. And as we continue our coverage of kron 4 of you are sending us these images from over Half Moon Bay they were taken yesterday you can see flames from the c z you lightning fire. We have to with 25,000 with homes and are mixed right now were doing on a rapid windshield survey which is literally trying to just get a very rough growth estimate for what the what the numbers are and we will eventually have specific points. The type of structure what it looked like what the materials was built out of the u n. This easy you fire is impacting several thousands of residents in san mateo and santa cruz counties, sheriffs deputies in both counties are telling residents to please heed evacuation warnings listen to them take them seriously so crews can have a clear path to the fires as much as possible im here at the moose lounge in el rancho drive in Scotts Valley where the the muslims they made themselves available for people you see a trailer there theres a few trailers here who just need a place to stay they are offering hot meals water and toiletries a bathroom. But community tunnel state park, including barack knowles community and the blue tunnel creek drainage south skyline boulevard near highway non the Russian Ridge open space preserve area of the middleton tracked his own Portola Redwoods State Park and Portola Heights Community area. An air quality advisory is in effect in the bay area as you might well expect look at this picture tells the story sensitive groups including children and older adults, those with respiratory breathing problems those with heart issues they should all avoid exposure as much as is possible. Our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow joins us now with the tears. Details on air quality uh maybe was just a lack of air quality laura yeah, boy even just driving home last night and you can see all these big flakes coming down also look like it was snowing, but. It was all that ash that had begun to fall out from some of the smoke around the bay area and you see the haze out there right now all smoke settling in for the night tonight in the many of the valleys and the winds going to calm down overnight tonight and that means that smoke is going to settle into many of the valley floors and that means some pretty nasty. Qualities are going to see that right now in fact as you make your way along the peninsula very pour unhealthy air quality in amount due to san jose Fremont Livermore san ramon right now oakland, the word also to conquer very poor air quality Half Moon Bay, san Mateo San Francisco across the bay in richmond also into blew apart a martinez. You get the idea and the winds going kind of walked about so well see por equality not only tomorrow but probably through the weekend maybe longer depending on how long it takes for these fires to put out. Thank you la raza and this video is new into our newsroom from the santa cruz area that is where the seas eu complex fire as its called has consumed 25,000 acres and damaged a number of buildings theres still no containment people are being told to evacuate in the upper san lorenzo valley were and for staying on top of breaking news, this was a night as we continue to track wildfires raging across the bay area kron fours second continuing our Live Team Coverage live tonight in Solano County where flames now pushing closer toward a number of homes there too. And jonathan right now im on cherry glen, a road as you can see here behind me firefighters are putting out some of those flames you can see the embers floating floating down here in the air and actually im told i talked to one of the neighbors. Theres a Mobile Home Park just down the road from here and he tells me that there was a home that burned to the ground in this area, but it was vacant at the time so we know that everyone is safe. However as i mentioned theres Mobile Home Park just down the road and he had a couple of friends, weve got out all their spring clothes got out everything that they could and they hosed down the area they said the flames came over the hills just so quickly and so fast and just to give you sort of a perspective of where were at again, i said run cherry glen road but thats also by i 80 west of course were in fairfield where there are mandatory mandatory evacuations in this area. Crews are coming around saying if you havent gotten out already you should have but get out as soon as you can let me just pan over here if you can see some of the just the flames not too far away there you can see the flames and there was some burning burning like satellite dishes and youll see some fire crews. Still patrolling the area here. And they are now that now that they left you can kind of see all this eliminated right now this is the only home in this specific area that were aware of but we are told that there are many more homes down the way. Sorry about that we talked to some other people earlier to buy on top of the overpass by. Campos parkway and im told that a lot of people also vacated the area they live in the apartments nearby they got everything they could get. Their animals their cats, their dogs lot of them sat on the overpass there at manual campos parkway waiting to see what was going to happen because obviously not only was i 80 closed down so people were waiting to see if they could go home get back on it but people you had to evacuate. Were also watching the fire come over the hill because it was almost surreal how you could see the divide of the highway there he saw the flames burning on each side at one point earlier today. I also sought skip coming up at 9 well hear from some of these people that i spoke to right now its getting pretty dark in this area so probably going to head out get to more safe location alright Taylor Bisacky live tonight in Solano County taylor. Thank you for the report make sure you stay safe out there tonight. And this is video from the Lick Observatory thats where firefighters are stage to protect that structured to First Responders have been hurt in the s c you complex pirates in the canyons own area coming up next. Were going to now to the latest on whats called the s c you lightning complex fire. It is the largest cluster of fires burning right now in the bay area. It is burning in 5 different counties to the east 102,000 acres have burned it is only 5 contained. This is video from the Lick Observatory which we just mentioned that located on Mount Hamilton east of san jose. It was also fear threatened by the fires crews are now stationed there to try and protected the sec you complex fire covers a very wide area. It includes the deer zone fire in Contra Costa County the calaveras fire which is bordering alameda and santa clara counties. Well for sellers sogomonian is live in our newsroom right now to bring us up to date on evacuations involving this lady this blaze. Ella and there are 20 different fire said make up the s e u complex and theres some good news at least for the east bay tonight because one of them thats a deer zone fire. Where firefighters have gun better control over it take a look at this map that shows the entire scope of the mcu complex fire and officials explained. Although they are far apart as you can see one is here by the Calaveras Reservoir the other over by patterson did again in Contra Costa County theyve been grouped together because of type resources so up here. Cal fire has lifted those Evacuation Orders at around 3. 45 this afternoon for Contra Costa County near mount diablo for all of Morgan Territory and along 6 miles of marsh creek road between southwest brentwood and clayton. But Evacuation Orders remain in place for Santa Clara County north of highway one 30 to Santa Clara County line west of San Antonio Valley road west of minds road to county line east of 3 springs road and Mount Hamilton road and south of the county line and the unincprporated areas which include east of ed levine county park belcher road sierra road toy an avenue and Mount Hamilton road to 3 springs road. North of Mount Hamilton road to 3 springs road and south of the county line plus west of the fire perimeter. And now lets take a look there are also evacuations warnings for east of San Jose City limits south of Mount Hamilton road north of metcalf road and san felipe bay road east to the county line east of San Antonio Valley road to Del Puerto Canyon road to the county line. The National Weather service has said that wind speeds of up to 25 miles per hour, well continue blowing northwest into the night so were going to keep track of this fire for you guys live in the newsroom. Ella sogomonian kron 4 news. And fire sparked all around the bay area do that lightning and we may see another system and up in the bay area this weekend that could cause some more lightning strokes that dry lightning and the possibility more fires and boy we dont need that fires burning all around the bay area, heres another one this one just east of pass to darrell right up in the mountains here near Dearborn Park little more and you can see burning in some very difficult terrain here is actually located some one near where Doppler Radar is so a very difficult place to fight those fires the one thing is though they are seeing the stormy sea breezes but theyre also seeing some higher humidity of course higher humidity makes it harder for these fires to burn very rapidly so that is some good news out there this evening. Were looking toward the airport at sfo and look at all that that is not the fog that is the smoke that is hovering right over sfo, San Bruno Mountain and all around the bay area weve been seeing that fog on and off spare the air has been issued for tomorrow. The air quality looking on healthy parts of the east bay in the south bay if youre somebody that may have some respiratory issues you might want to just stay inside keep that mask on shut the windows its going to be cooler tomorrow. So thats some good news but that poor air quality going to be elsewhere around the bay area even along the coastline were getting a little westerly component the winds still enough smoke in the air that it may cause some issues expects more ash fall until the fires go out looks like these a spare the air is going to continue right into the weekend guys back to you thank you laura as the l in new lightning complex fire at the last update has burned 124,000 acres. It is also forcing evacuations in sonoma county. Those evacuations are north of austin creek Recreational Area east of the cedars mill creek. Mill creek road west of the intersection of duty on the road south of stewards point skaggss springs road. They also include west of West Dry Creek road and west a side road north of sweet water springs road and mcrae ridge road and east of the East Austin Creek and the following School Districts have canceled their Distance Learning because of the evacuations far still union Guerneville Monte rio and montgomery. This is video of the woodward fire burning in moraine county this plays now growing to 1100 acres and 0 contained tonight. Theres no word on mandatory evacuations there well be keeping an eye on and like so many other fires that we are tracking this wednesday night here on kron 4. The very great day on the lake it is. It is only 7 contained tonight, more than 5,000 people have fled their homes in that area for firefighters suffered heatrelated injuries while battling the flames there. Cal fire says this plays like so many others here in the bay area right now was sparked over the weekend by dry lightning 2 other fires burning some further south in Monterey County, the carmel fire has charred more than 700 acres in carmel valley. So far this blaze has destroyed 3 structures now threatening 300 more and back away shuns are underway in School Districts have canceled classes. Meanwhile, the dolan fire has burned more than 4,000 acres in big sur force in parts of highway one to shut down. Both fires right now have no containment we want take a look at the picture on your screen. This man now accused of setting the dolan fire the second of those fires, hes 30 yearold yvonne Jeronimo Gomez of fresno investigators say they found him not too far from the fire that started yesterday morning. Gomez now facing a number of charges, hes being held on a 2 Million Dollars bail. Our coverage does continue looking at these fires burning around the bay area we want to check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence when were going to see cooler weather to help the fire crews out here that certainly would be a big help and i think starting tomorrow but its going to be relative family is dead triple digits. Youre still looking at some mid 90s and the hottest spots hazy out there right now is that smoke a settling in for the night going to see more of that tomorrow again the fires continue to burn but more of a westerly component going to be kicking in these temperatures started to drop today which is some good news. So. Finally the heat advisories coming down for the bay area it looks like the end of the significant he way these temperatures dropping as much as 5 to 6 degrees still hot inland 104 degrees in liberal one 04 in concord one oh one in the bottle but then we look toward the coast. Thats where we start to see the changes 60s in the Half Moon Bay with a couple patches of fog 70s in the San Francisco in 83 degrees in oakland now were tracking this next storm system this is genevieve this another hurricane really right off the coast of baja you can see already toward kabul.
