Other news this morning in the south bay Santa Clara County leaders voted to extend the Eviction Moratorium for both private and commercial tenants the moratorium was set to expire at the end of this month. County officials have not yet decided on the exact date for the new eviction ban and ban. Theyre planning to decide that at their next meeting thats on august 25th. It also may include additional protections for tenants and fines for landlords who violate the moratorium. In San Francisco man is in custody this morning in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian yesterday. Police responded to the crash on geary boulevard and goff street in the city. The Police Officers say a 50 yearold man was killed after getting hit by a car. They say was driven by 26 yearold Whitfield Whitfield remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. The preliminary investigation finds that impairment was not a factor. Officers later arrested whitfield on charges of reckless driving speeding and entering the cross walk on a red light. Republican Assemblyman Kevin Kiley is demanding further investigation into the technical problem that inaccurately reported of covid19 data for at least a week in california. He sent a letter earlier this week to speaker Anthony Rendon at requesting an oversight hearing. Kiley says there needs to be legislative investigations to determine the full extent of the technical problem and to hear what steps have been taken to make sure it doesnt happen again. Now the National Headlines this morning the president s trying to make good on his promise of a payroll tax cut to help American Workers who are struggling with the pandemic but they dont expect to hit your paycheck just yet. Our washington correspondent Jessi Turnure explains why. A payroll tax is a big deal for people while sidestepping congress President Trump is using executive action to delay collecting the payroll taxes that Fund Social Security and medicare this is your payroll tax obligations, but its still unclear if Corporate America will sign onto the plan we just dont know yet whether this will be good or not because the devils in the details and we dont have any of those the executive order to first collecting those taxes until january 1st Todd Mccracken the president of the National Small business association. Once you know if its mandatory for employers and how workers will pay whats owed at that later date, im not sure treasure youre answer all these questions in time for a quick implementation. The president s order gives the Treasury Department until september first to release its guidance. Now to the east bay this morning Distance Learning is now underway at schools in oakland, and its been a learning curve for the parents and students so far this week, its been mostly online orientation for students. We did check in with a dad and his 5 yearold son whos a student at horace mann Elementary School. They say that there was a first some technical issues they have to deal with but then the family noticed there were only a handful of other students who are logged in for the classes.
