Aries 3 which is going to be to my door. We have addresses ranging from 174 one 74 floods 68 or one 61 already and one 20 14th street or total of 6 local commercial out there one of those locations does house residence in the art world is an ongoing project that was dollars now has 3 residential individuals are displaced or the result of this active before the fire resulted in one to a firefighter who received a traumatic injury as a result of fighting this fire. A firefighter recently been released at the Trauma Center and is going to be o k. We have the 3 displaced residents as well as accountant number of employees from the the scout list businesses that are affected from this fire or Fire Department is working with housing development. A department of human red cross to make sure that these individuals are afforded proper information, Proper Services that will allow them to recover from this and move it forward. And this time theyre building a board general for this fire is being determined by our Fire Investigation task force to need to hear of 140 14th street. I want to remind you that this is an Fire Investigation. Me that this would be a blue and this could change within the dynamics of the fire investigators determination of the cause of the board and what it is safe for them to get into the footprints to properly evaluate what the point of origin is that what the cause is going to be for this wire which will come at a later time with that im open for questions. So the question was at theirs. Information that there was a mattress fire to the rear of one 40 14th street which be on the erie street side last night that is correct we can confirm that there was a mattress fire. Last night around 11 oclock in the evening that mattress fire was extinguished by Engine Company 6 that was associated to a homeless encampment in that area again the fire was completely extinguish last night by Engine Company number 6 around 1111 30 in the evening. So the question is do we believe that this fire is related to the mattress fire. Again our fire investigators will take that into account, but it is too early at this time to determine if that had. Nexus to this fire or not. But again our far investigators have that information. Theyre evaluating what occurred last night and they will deter put place that into their determining factor as to the cause and origin of this pie. So the question is is theres a missing cat associated to this incident. Missing got was a believe associated a one 14th street or firefighters went into that building numerous times after learning of the missing cat. The structural stability about building is unsafe to me and nevertheless our crews did go in looking for that guy. To my knowledge were not able to find that job or remnants of that cat. Its our hope and desire that that cat got out safely. It will be reunited with the family, but again this time to my knowledge that cat is still missing. The question is do we have any reason to believe that this fire is suspicious at this time. Our Fire Investigation task force is actively investigating the fire. Being suspicious is a part of that investigation. They will investigate to determine if this was accidental. If this intentional but this is suspicious again its too early in the phase of this investigation. Just stated that suspicious or not. So the question is is last night and after the mattress fire if the homeless encampment individuals were allowed to stay within that general area. I do not know to that specific out, but i can attest to what our past practices in our past practice is the same as if youre your own home. And if its a tenable to stay there were not going to have you leave or vacate the area. You know for for all intensive purposes. These are the living space for some individuals and for us to physically remove them. Its not going to be a humane. No action and if we do not have to move those individuals we will not. But again as to the aspects to last night i do not know if that occurred or not. Okay were going to continue to monitor that press conference there at San Franciscos Fire Department updating us on that 5 alarm fire this morning in the citys south of market neighborhood, the headlines. One traumatic injury that a firefighter suffered, but that firefighter has been released from the hospital and will be okay. Good news there in terms of how the fire may have started that is being investigated, but there was a mattress that was on fire late last night in the 11 oclock hour that San Francisco firefighters responded to and according to fire officials put out fully so they will take that into consideration as they investigate the cause. But certainly that does not appear to a definite cause of the fire at least right now and this is by the way if youre looking for the area of the city if youre familiar with of all though dealership the best buy right there. Near 14th street and south nsa the one o one runs right above it that is the area were talking about mostly commercial but 3 people did live in an artist collective in one of the buildings affected and so they right now have been displaced because of that large residential a little bit residential people live there but again mostly commercial industrial kron fours Maureen Kelly talk to some Business Owners and some residents who had to evacuate their buildings to get out of the way of the fire. Heres video that shows the flames shooting up alongside the central freeway people showing up to work nearby captured images of the huge wall of flames and the massive column. 6 black smoke. People who are just waking up had to scramble to get out in case the fire moved in their direction and in expect to see a a huge like a 50 feet fire. Like and meters of a one man was asleep inside his business along with his dog when the fire broke out. I looked to the sky building and theres a column of black smoke. About 3 or 4 feet wide grab my dog run around and within 20 minutes, the entire block was in flames is building was flooded by the water used to put out the flames, its devastating for the business course along with everybody in covid in business down many ways. You can see the remains of our failed sales of Building Materials company that had stood in this spot for decades, so its an old old school establishment. You news is something that like i felt like. And this is part of being a San Francisco, it was something that i was really you know its hard to see it go the fire also damaged the sheriffs departments Field Operations building. Deputies had to move weapons and ammunition stored there Rainbow Grocery was not burned, but they had to evacuate staff and close for the day because of all the firefighting activity and the heavy smoke in the area made it unsafe for customers Maureen Kelly. For news. Well continue to update that story as we move on now to opening day and it is not a typical opening day for the San Francisco giants, no fans in attendance of course because of the pandemic the season is already on pause tonight for the Miami Marlins. After 17 people in that organization tested positive for covid want to go out live now to oracle park were saying that but it is oracle park a drug for sports director jason dumas says their cheese jason for. No fans theres still a bit of noise. I guess music there in the course in tv fashion the music starts blasting right before i go on air but its just been a wild couple of days in Major League Baseball trying to break it down for you and as well as i can because it even confuses me as im trying to sort out all the moving parts. But essentially theyre that outbreak in the Miami Marlins clubhouse they should have played last weekend in philadelphia, but after a playersonly meeting they decided to im sure there will be people reprimanded for that decision because that is against the policy that the mlb drew up for covid but because they played outbreak. Break spread and it started to affect other teens so now there are 14 in total who have been affected by the outbreak. The Miami Marlins wont play another game before monday, the Philadelphia Phillies who they were playing during that outbreak. They play again until before friday and then you have the washington nationals, they will be off this weekend because theyre supposed to play the marlins and then you have the orioles and the yankees. They will now play each other because the orioles were supposed to play the marlins. This week and the phillies were supposed to play the yankees. So now baseball does switch day in day orioles and yankees will play on wednesday and thursday i no doubt a lot of info to take in. Thats whats happening right now no here in oracle park, the giants fortunately havent been affected by that marlins outbreak and gabe kepler he is satisfied with everything thats going on in this clubhouse with the team doctors have done and he things everything will be fine by with the giants moving forward well like i said everything can change their just fortunate that this outbreak having touched their the medical staff us has led us well so far. Weve got weve got strong leadership in that regard and i think weve done a really nice job of following health and safety protocols but theres no theres no question that this adds. Kind of an additional layer of sensitivity and give us an opportunity to keep talking about it the testing was was very well organized. I feel like we have plenty of time to get to everything that we need to get to in the day as i look throughout our in our dugout we were we were i think were a mass appropriately and well i i always think theres room for improvement as it relates to our physical distancing. I thought we did a fine job and we just have to keep getting better. And as for tonight, the giants to 2, 2, on the season, they got outscored 22 to 10 in los angeles but still were able to take 2 of those games so i would call that a win tonight taking on the padres padres send out jack davies on the bump starting for the giants and jets, im margo course well have highlights later in the night in another live report coming up at 6 but for now reporting out at oracle park im jason dumas kron 4 news anchor jason a lot to unpack there still to come tonight the gop proposing to slash Unemployment Benefits in the next stimulus package now some state lawmakers. Ready for this laying the groundwork but various specifics are still not laid out and that is because the district is still working things out with the Teachers Union to make sure that all parties are in agreement before they lay this out we do know is there will be no in classroom learning, San Francisco like many different counties throughout the state are not eligible for in Person Learning because of covid19 but at this point Parents Say School is getting underway in less than 3 weeks and still they dont have the specifics that they need to get their child ready and to get themselves ready. Most of us have heard nothing from our school sites yet again we know that teachers and principals have been off during the summer, but we really need to hear from our school sites. We really need to know you know on august 17th what time does my kid have to be in front of a screen and for how long especially 5 younger children, you know i have a little children so its not as critical for me, but lots of folks with younger children. You know they really have to be there for that so not knowing yet. Not that we dont know when our assignments are going to be do or simons going to daily weekly. Now the other thing that they have to look at is what happens when San Francisco qualifies to have in class room and when that happens what will it look like at this point they still dont quite know what it looks like heres what we can tell you that right now they think they have seats for about 15,000 students a day and the San FranciscoUnified School District there are 54,000 students. So that means a variation on a theme does that mean they go alternate days does that mean students go one half of the morning and half of the afternoon or here a couple of other options, theyre looking at a certain students go to school for a whole week for a whole month and then another student would go to school for a whole week for a whole month again. This is all of the planning process still being worked out schools are set to open their doors on line again in less than 3 weeks on august 17th, reporting live Dan Kerman Kron 4 news.
