Yes, they managed to score 5 runs in the first 4 innings the giants batters hit against dodgers pitcher alex wood was struggling on the mound. Which was great news for us to tell the stretch the giants did not score in the final 5 innings but the but the defense that they exhibit was enough to prevent the dodgers from catching up so finally all the people in the fist and did you see that over but youll see in the distance hot wheel people look is. Wow what you call virtual like you see in movies he cool okay, well see a more that exposes her with games to come the 2 teams play again tonight at 7 oclock so watch the stands and you see all those cgi faith and i just see the giants when i was in well it was a disappointing day for the as and after they had such a great start they were scoreless the 7th inning and the angels at a fourpoint advantage is outfielder Robbie Grossman hit an rbi single law and the milton. Got the as on the board it was it for the day the angels win it 4 to they play again today at 1 oclock but again they had a fantastic start to the season. So you know you never know what happens as the season unfolds. I guess i guess so much less time you know because i know that shortened season every game is more critical right are also in the news this morning we have a reporter in Tampa Florida crediting a viewer with helping her detect cancer in her neck, you have the viewer saw her on tv and sent an email. That could have saved her life and who better to report on that story then the reporter herself victoria price shares her story. Well as weird as it feels to be out here reporting on my own story versus somebody elses story this was a really really important story for me to tell not just educate and not just advocate but also to say thank you because i did notice that there was a lump in my neck until a viewer reached out to let me tell 8 on your side isnt just a catchphrase giving a voice to our viewers is at the core of everything we do. But the roles reversed recently when i thought of you are on my side and for that i couldnt be more grateful right stacey especially when you consider that he worked there for 4 years that it was after this story aired in june i got this somewhat cryptic email police had her thyroid checked reminds me of my neck mind turned out to be cancer. So i called my doctor and a month later turns out mind as to more overwhelming than the diagnosis however is the outpouring of love and support ive received since then. I was shocked to hear from so many Thyroid Cancer patients and survivors including some people ive known for years, but never knew of their diagnosis. So like any good reporter i did some digging the American Cancer Society estimates more than 52,000 americans will be diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer this year, women are 3 times more likely to develop Thyroid Cancer and its commonly diagnosed at a younger age, so ladies check your neck, one of the warning signs i i certainly didnt notice it all myself a swelling or lock is the most common if you have some more snus thats near and doesnt go away. And sometimes pain in the neck that radiates out to be yours thankfully fired cancer is also one of the most treatable cancers with a 98 5 year survival rate. We may be in the midst of a Global Health crisis but please dont neglect your own health. I was just lucky, a Guardian Angel was looking out for me. And of course the question that everybody has been asking me this miracle viewer have you been able to get in touch with her i did email her earlier this week when i received my diagnosis to thank her from the bottom of my heart. I did hear back from her earlier today weve exchanged a few emails and so im hoping that after the surgery we will be able to it will be having surgery this monday just down the road at tampa general. They will be removing my entire thyroid a few of the lymph nodes som also have a few biopsies us to make sure that the cancer hasnt spread to and the other parts of my neck and then if all goes as well as planned will be back here in about a week. Reporting in tampa victoria price 8 on your side, this is exactly what happened with Deborah Norville yeah we had a chance to talk to she came in and it was 20 years ago same thing viewers saw something and they ended up removing most of her thyroid because she had a cancerous nodule she never knew was kind of stuck in. Right there and it was some of you who wrote it says never you have a yeah they should get that checked that were just talking in the break that so. Its such a touchy topic to bring up when youre pointing something out the physically about somebody else you dont want to fan, you dont want to assume, but here if you are you know was nice enough to say look your your neck doesnt look right it looks like minded when i was diagnosed should have a checkdown que. Yeah, thanks for keeping an eye on us absolutely reyna. Thats a look at the weather now back to the news, thanks rebecca, some 47 and theres a big coronavirus outbreak it to us military bases in japan, yeah, and the situation is causing some strain between the 2 nations we have kerry and joe g with the story. Hundreds lined up in this Community Center in okinawa to be tested the coronavirus all of them work inside the 2 Us Marine Corps bases hit hardest by covid19. When matthews a money man is the food court at camp hansen he tells me hes scared that so many servicemen are testing positive by the time he hand over his saliva sample the parking lot is full of worry people just like him. There are more cases inside the ranks of the u. S. Military in okinawa, then there have been on the whole island during the course of the pandemic local residents say they want the base is locked down they fear servicemen arriving from the mainland where the virus is raging could spread the virus further the rotation of personnel in is a tremendous concern for us here at camp hansen for the marine corps in okinawa at large is why we have some very stringent measures in place any time someone lands. On okinawa. The military chartered aircraft theyre taken directly to a residence where they then spend 2 weeks essentially in isolation. Their symptoms are monitored their checked up on and theyre also completely isolated to prevent the transmission of potential covid from the united states. Still the possibility of contagion permeates through chat on town a popular hangout for offduty servicemen and the families before the pandemic it. Its also a short drive from that emma air base the site of another cluster outbreak among the marines hymn of all taken from experience show we feel the u. S. Servicemen are out on the ends always protected on the status of forces agreement in june they do not follow japanese laws nor do they want within our system. That is the biggest reason we do not fully trust each other the this hotel symbolizes the latest mistrust. The military has rented out to find space for personnel rotating out on massive this time of year. With more than half of japans land already taken up by us bases, many resent having to give away more and risk being exposed to a virus. They had under control until july japan has depended on the u. S. For its security ever since it lost world war 2 and half of all of the u. S. Military bases in japan are located on the island of okinawa Futenma Air Base is one of them his long long been controversial. With plans to relocate it over decades and residents say they bear an outsized burden and want some of these bases relocated somewhere else. The okinawans want more information that just the number of cases with infections among servicemen rising in the u. S. And around the world there please this time may resonate far beyond its shores. In the bay area and across the country as well lets take a look at the protests in oakland, Los Angeles Seattle showing solidarity with whats been happening in. Portland oregon where protesters have been demonstrating against the federal police and demanding Racial Justice, a large majority of the protests last night in oakland was peaceful, however, people did clash with police over some splinter groups that broke off. Fires were set government buildings also damaged a downtown oakland Police Station was damaged and a fire set at the Alameda County courthouse. Lets get the latest from reyna harvey. Darya james good morning yet. The protests started peaceful, this is a protest in solidarity. We were seeing in Portland Oregon. But things escalated as the night went on were going to start with the peaceful. Of course another protester to see hundreds of Protesters Police say about 700 came out of the downtown area. Theyre carrying signs here in the street you can hear them chanting black lives matter and brianna taylor. Now. As it got later into the Evening Police are calling ms. Other group that were about to see here. Agitated ers so this group broke off you can see they started vandalizing several locations, including this sign you can see them, throwing over here now before they knocked over the sign the sign said that this is an Unlawful Assembly and chemicals will be deployed, so looks like they got upset by that several small fires were set throughout the downtown area. Now heres the aftermath of everything that happened. This is over at the Alameda County superior courthouse. It was set on fire. They also spray painted the building and as you can see several windows were broken here as well. Now the Police Station. I was also vandalized you can see people here into the night they set off fireworks and then the station was also spray painted along with several windows at this area being broken. Now that protested lasted several hours of the protest lasted several hours and people were also arrested during the protests. So now what theyre doing this morning is theyre investigating other looking back at footage from the protest overnight. And theyre asking people with ikformation to come forward for now reporting here in oakland Reyna Harvey Kron 4 news, thanks right now. And in austin texas the protests there were deadly overnight. A man was shot in the crowd people in this crowd heard 5 shots after a car pulled up to the protests there. And one person was killed. Also one person was arrested and is said to be cooperating with the police this morning. And lets go to the protests in portland that have sparked it all federal agents again firing tear gas to break up the protest late last night you can see that these demonstrations have a continuing every night for the past 2 months. And he shows no signs of letting up calling for Police Reform and they have been notably escalated by President Trump sending in on march federal officers into portland. The federal judge has denied a request by oregons attorney general to restrict the actions of federal police. Police in seattle declared a riot in the big demonstrations that happened there in the capitol hill neighborhood in seattle. You can see them moving back the protesters. There police also to play flash bangs and pepper spray to clear the area. Thousands of protesters initially gathered peacefully and the downtown seattle area showing solidarity to what was happening in portland at least 16 people were arrested in seattle. Well back here in the bay area a local group formed their own wall of moms in palo alto these moms are inspired by mothers protecting protesters in portland and theres also another demonstration in oakland at oscar grant plaza local police say roughly 600 people attended that march is demonstrations come as President Trump has called for sending in federal agents to other cities such as chicago and seattle and also oakland. Yeah, this began as it did for much of the protests around the country. But there was some violence it did break out overnight when various factions began to break off some damaged as you can see her property others damaged. Some government buildings as well we want to get the very latest on the protests with kron fours reyna harvey. James and ari again the protest they always start peacefully and police are saying the subgroups that were seen doing a lot of his vandalizing the ad detainers in these protests, so you can see here. This is a group of people. This is well after you see hours into the protests and you can see that turning over some lines in the middle of the street here. Theyre also lighting fires throughout the downtown area. Now the aftermath of everything that we saw happening this is over at the Alameda County superior courthouse. And they said that on fire. They spray painted the building and you can also see several windows or broken out here at this location. The Police Station also vandalized overnight. People setting off fireworks off in this area you can also see that station has been spray painted and several windows were broken here now many of the protesters last night or the agitators that the police are talking about were arrested that Investigation Continues for now reporting here oakland Reyna Harvey Kron 4 news. Thanks right now. All right we want to take you back to selma, alabama now where we are witnessing the procession for late congressman john lewis making its way towards the Edmund Pettus bridge as you can see there. And theres the procession off in the distance were going to see the casket and a horse drawn rounding the corner there and coming up towards the bridge in a minute. And what we understand is that the horse drawn caisson alone will travel over the bridge, the rest the procession will stay back and once the casket reaches that portion of the bridge where you see the name Edmund Pettus bridge. It will pause and stop for one minute and that of course is to commemorate that march in selma back in the 60s where john lewis and a lot of the other freedom marchers. Were attacked by police at the time and viciously with clubs in fact. Congressman lewis himself suffered a fracture a fractured skull. In that attack and he became a prominent advocate and fighter for civil rights. In the days that preceded that of course in the decades that followed. Interestingly enough once the case on continues on to the other side of the bridge will be met by members of. The state troopers. The police force there which ironically was part of the police force back in the 60s that attacked. Those marchers so to be a full circle moment there another Family Member schools, join the procession from that point on time as we look at the name of the bridge are actually talking about changing the name of the bridge to honor. The congressman this event is actually part of a sixday Memorial Ceremony to honor him. Hes a georgia democrat and hes hes going to be on his home town of troy alabama as well. And he died on july 17th at the aid age of 80. He had a 6 month battle with cancer and thats what killed him and the day that he and the marchers james youre talking about initially when they cross the bridge that became known as ladee sunday and here we are. Now so many years later after 1965. Blood e sunday and here we are on a sunday remembering. John lewis and his way to spend the rest of his life fighting for change and as daryn mentioned this is just one of several. Event so were going to see play out in the days to come from here hes going to lie. In state in the state capital there in montgomery and then hell move on to atlanta where hell be honored and recognized there and then ultimately. He will lie in repose in the capitol rotunda. Where an invitation ceremony will take place where a lot of the lawmakers and dignitaries that we report to him in his life, well pay tribute to him and his lifelong fight for social justice and equality for all and then ultimately later in the week. He will be buried, so well continue to follow this and bring it to you live as soon as we see that case on. Roll over the bridge, well be right back. And were back at 8. 38 San Franciscos Ferry Building is back open after some confusion over its classification the building was forced to close earlier this week after being classified as an indoor mall indoor malls must close in counties that are in the states covid19 watch list in San Francisco county is on that list along with a handful of other bay area counties. The Ferry Building has since been reclassified as a transportation terminal. All of the closure was brief Business Owners inside the Ferry Building are still worried. We had set up a pretty good system and knew what to expect. And then just to really quickly couldnt rule that away and after trying to figure out a new way of doing things. In fact its going to get up to about the low 70s that were expecting today, ill welcome back to the kron 4 morning news, im Rebecca Storm in the kron 4 Weather Center overcast gray skies this morning as you can see here an hour south of market camera in San Francisco. Thats a look at the weather now back to the news all right any 45 lets go back to selma, alabama because now the u. S. Representative john lewiss body is about to cross. The Edmund Pettus bridge in selma, alabama for the last time and were taking a live look here at that bridge and you can see off in the distance the procession. Coming towards the camera and thats the orientation were were looking across the span of the bridge. And youll see the crowd there on the sidewalk kind of curve to the right. So were expecting to see the case on the horse drawn. Case on with the casket come around the bend and approached the bridge and as we watch these events unfold live, im struck that not many people can say that their lifes work their impact on the world. His studied by people during their lifetimes but john lewis was one of those people in with us as part of this discussion is kron fours reyna harvey you actually have the opportunity to study john lewis in college and rain, im curious just to get your perspective as we watch. These events unfold this morning. Yeah, you know this is a historic moment, a very sad and somber moment for a lot of people watching and saying goodbye for the last time. This is someone who at a very early age took his life and decided to lay his life on the line to fight for what he believed in and that was fighting for voter rights and the advancement of black people here in this nation, you know he was born the son of sharecroppers very Humble Beginnings lived on a farm and then as he progressed in grew he decided that he was going to stand for things inspired by the montgomery boycott. Steer in alabama. And he really took that lead and that initiative in his fight for voter rights now again we all know the history. What is now known as what he sunday then crossing the bridge there that a group of about 600 people who were brutally beaten. All in the fight for equality and Voting Rights and again here in a full circle moment in a place where power was taken from this group of people you see that power restored in a full circle moment as they scored his body across the bridge. There. He was also under the you know to the ledge and mentorship of doctor Martin Luther king. Here in the country and thats where they all together plan many a different boycotts and and sit ins and Different Things that you learned about in history. Something that ive been seen over the past few weeks on social media with a people remember marine of the congressman here is good trouble thats something that i see often on social media theyre saying that he stood for good trouble and that is you know they miss lees mugshot rearrested from the protests here crossing the bridge and hes smiling. In that mug shot the air just because of the trouble that he fell was the advancement of African Americans in this country and their rights to vote so hes someone that is held in high regard in the history books. You look at him along the rankings of doctor Martin Luther king in this country along with rosa parks and if key figures in history and so his actions then he led that day is played a huge role and a lot of the advancements weve seen in this country for African Americans here the right to vote. The Civil Rights Movement being pushed for so again you are seeing people gathered here in the community all getting ready to play their owners and respects to someone advocated for good trouble and that is pushing the Movement Forward and it is a very special moment in time as we look at a lot of the protesters that are taking to the streets today and they have similar messages that theyre trying to convey and that theyre asking for the advancement of what they feel the black people still have a lot a lot to a lot of room for progress and growth in this country, currently right now. So again all of this coming full circle as people get a chance to say goodbye and pay homage to the congressman here. He organized sitting demonstrations back in the day over lunch counters at the time that we are not segregated they were pushing for that we also know that he became a nationally recognized leader in this country he was dubbed one of the big 6 leaders of the Civil Rights Movement and at a very young age here he is in his early 20s, congressman lewis here. Being an architect in a keynote speaker at the historic march on washington, he was one of the youngest if not the youngest the air to speak to that crowd of people talking about voter rights and the progression of black people in this country. We also know that he coordinated many efforts for road Voter Registration drives in his community and we know that a lot of times many times that there were those were met with opposition and not just being arrested or thrown in jail but often you saw some a very violent opposition towards these people that were just trying to progress here in this nation so again hes going to be known as someone who is a leader in the midst. Only when it was a very difficult time in this country. Caryn james lowe, lets take a as the case on rolls over the bridge right now. Sound like carrying the body and i have representative john lewis who say we will pause so that you can watch this in silence, but just so you know whats about to happen the case on will approach the base of the bridge. And then it alone will travel across the span and youre going to notice that about halfway across right underneath the sign that greets the Edmund Pettus bridge. The case on will stop. And for about a minute its going to stand there in silence before continues on to the other side of the span to be greeted by troopers and other Family Members will continue want to montgomery so with that knowledge well pause here and let you watch this and listen to it sounds. A day. And you just witnessed the final crossing over the Edmund Pettus bridge of representative john lewis. Making his final voyage now at the age of 80 he died after a. That list cancer this is the place that launched his lifelong career of fighting for social justice and civil rights. When he was just 25 years old a much different outcome at the end of that bridge when he was beaten. By state troopers and today, the case and has received by the military and state troopers with so lose and to his bravery and his life his lifes work absolutely and what youre going to see play out here is that. The military guard there the state troopers will transition the casket from the case on that you saw transport john lewis over the bridge. Theyll move that casket over to a waiting hearse which will then continue on taking the congressman to Montgomery Alabama where he will lie in state. Inside the State Capitol from their inside the State Capitol there and then hell move on to washington dc line state too. In the capital before ultimately being buried. Ill have more details coming up in just a bit now back to the news. Lets get to the big story a breaking news from overnight protests in oakland people coming out in solidarity last night with the portland protesters demanding Racial Justice and demanding federal officers leave us cities, yes things began before violent splinter groups broke off. And damaged some government buildings so that was all part of what happened last night as well. And the protests in austin turned deadly one man was shot and killed there was a crowd and people heard about 5 shots after a car pulled up to the protests. No word on any suspect being arrested at this point as a suspect was arrested. We dont know the condition of anybody else was injured, we just know that one person was shot and killed in that protest in austin texas. Now lets go to the protests in portland. That sparked all of federal agents again repeatedly using tear gas to break up the protests last night these demonstrations have been going on every night for the past 2 months and showing no signs of letting up theyre asking for Police Reform and for federal officers to leave their city and the president actually sent on march federal officers into the city and refused to. Let up in fact 6 federal officers were injured and one person was arrested in fridays protests and a federal judge just denied a request from oregons attorney general to restrict the actions of the federal police. Well people in seattle declared a riot following large demonstrations in the cities capitol hill neighborhood saturday. Police deployed flash bangs and pepper spray to try to clear the area you can see some of that play out here this video. Thousands of protesters had initially gathered peacefully near downtown seattle in a show of solidarity with fellow demonstrators in Portland Oregon at least 16 people have been arrested.
