The bulk of todays we try to get some clearing happening through southern marin heres what happens as we go forward to the parable kind of freeze at 9. 15 still some work to be done along even the east bay shoreline at that point the peninsula in the north bay now it does clear out for much of the bexar least most of it at least but along the peninsula coast and up to southern marin it will be fighting to some of that overcast or at least some fog clouds temperatures in the lower 60s, some upper 50s picking up to the north bay 56 San Francisco, 59 livermore and 63 antioch ok help couple degrees ahead than we were from yesterday except the junk here in the peninsula. But all in all fairly mild as it will be today even in the inland areas where it could open up fairly quickly, well keep a few scattered clouds and here am still 11 00am at 7585 by 2 oclock and we have actually earn a school down by the middle of the week well get into that a little bit later on march. All right dave thanks a lot of us get to the news this morning you might soon be getting your hair and nails done outside. The states Business Consumer Services and Housing Agency expected to release more details on that either today or tomorrow kron fours reyna harvey live in alameda this morning. She has more on that. Hi rhonda good morning. Marty good morning. Uh you have a lot of these salons and barbershops wanting to offer their services to you outdoor so for the barbershop behind me potentially could see people cutting here out on the sidewalk there. But some barbers have already gotten a head start wall on this you can see right here. This is a Business Owner. A lafayette that we caught up with earlier in the week. This is clark le so the disease. Offering here cats in addition to making sure that people have mask on he made sure that he started cutting here outside because he wanted to reduce the risk of coronavirus fast so this is what the here technicians and the barbers across the state are asking the governor they wanted to throw out a business licensing cold. Thats currently in place, but it prohibits hair technicians from working outdoors this request just comes days after the governor ordered most salons as well as barber shops to shut down indefinitely marty like you mentioned were waiting today or tomorrow to hear word that this tweet sent out friday from the california Business Consumer Services and Housing Agency theyre saying that they recognize the immense hardship that here stylist barbers manicurists and esta titians face in light of the covid pandemic some services will be allowed outdoors in the next 72 hours. Well have updated information on how to safely offer these personal Care Services outdoors now obviously this is not a indefinite thinks for these Business Owners because marty they cant offer every service that she would get at a hair salon or at a barbershop outdoors but this will give them just a little leeway to start adding more services that Business Owner lafayette is not the only barber ive seen outdoor cutting here since the pandemic began a saw. Another bar out of lake merritt a few weeks ago doing the same thing so you have Business Owners really trying to get creative they want to make sure this order is thrown out so they are protected when they offer these Services Outdoors for now reporting here in Alameda County reyna harvey kron 4 news, you know rain and there are so many people that are waiting for this news, not only the people who work at hair salon too onerous laws, but the customers as well. Were doing okay, all right, ray nothings lets rain rv from the east bay reporting for us robin marty its back to you to back to you to the well happening tomorrow, San Franciscos westfield mall is closing once again because of covid19 a surge in covid19 hospitalizations for San Francisco officials to order the closure on friday, so now every county in the bay area is on Governor Newsoms coronavirus watch list except San Mateo County shoppers say they understand the closures but the pretty frustrating will just all the back and forth and the openings and closings. Everything that above downing of backup in corona still going to be here at the end of the and like. I mean i just feel like you know keep everything up and i want everything up and really understand you know the reason why that would be closing i mean we dont want the epidemic to you know spike back up. And its unfortunate that needs to happen, but thats an important measure that we need to take the closing backed up an opening but that is never going to stop because theres no back since available yet. And at this point its just not how clear how long the closures will last. And we have the latest breakdown for you of coronavirus cases and deaths in the bay area there are over 38,000 cases and over 680 people have died from the virus were seen the most cases in Alameda County with over 9700 infections. One we still got problems going up here to point re meanwhile along the peninsula around Half Moon Bay, so trouble spots like that you may never completely shake the fog off or just get enough inning going on for some kind of broken clouds at work there as far as thats one time moisture thats the lower were familiar with that that damp marine layer that comes in. But meanwhile, some upper level moisture coming our way going make it past the sierra but will spark up some little afternoon showers and perhaps a thunder shower, both state tomorrow coming in from the 4 corner states over that monsoon so low level moisture for the most part mixes out today, theres the flare up that happens along the spine of the sierra then again back with a lower level moisture again it evaporates away and boom we have the afternoon showers and some very isolated Thunder Showers at work there pretty common summertime appearance thing going on, but by mid week things are going to start to change a little bit we got morning clouds and coastal fog, mild to warm born in inland but this week we have cooling an early clouds thats going to be by the middle of the weekend temperatures are going to fall were talking inland highs in the mid 80s here so its nice little tree here from summer. The next weekend a minor warmup has returned to 90s going on back inland a weenie 90s meaning lower 90s and in some of those very sensitive areas that tend to pop a lot for today we called 65 morning clouds get some sun in the afternoon, San Francisco. 72 for oakland youll probably up with 12 11am or so for that fog burns off and then for san jose checking in at 83 again some morning clouds but the sun to its 2 duties for the afternoon high temperatures today, the reds are many pretty much contained in Central Valley. We have checking in at 90 80s up here in the north bay 83 san jose and along the east bay shoreline, some 70s, your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit. Robin good. Thank you dave. Well depends on how well we get that clear and well keep it 60s for that little bit of a downward trend in temperatures for the middle of the week and then warming up as we head into the following weekend keep it here a for your health you might remember last week we talked about how high blood sugar will affect our immune response to covid19 well it also has an impact on those with and without diabetes and today, our Health Expert colonel lot joins me to talk about some diet strategies that could prevent or slow blood sugar spikes and reduce the risk of a life threatening inflammatory reaction to the virus. Hi karen good morning. Good morning marty maybe we can start by talking about why blood sugar causes inflammation to begin with. Well think of blood sugar it and i like to use this devastating flood sugar as shards of glass ok so it is circulating with high blood sugars its circulating through your arteries and its creating damage within that debt delicate inner lining up your arteries right its and whenever theres any type of tissue damage whether you cut your hand or whatever it is a lot of proinflammatory cytokines as immune cells that were talking about last week right well rush to the site and try to help and heal that area. So high blood sugar youre going to have this inflammatory response. Now when we talk about inflammatory response we are talking about inflammation of our cells is that right is not anything that swollen that we can see. No it this is systemic so these are the this this is the type of information that year thats in going on inside your body. So that makes it really difficult for us to know when were going to have a blood sugar spike right. Absolutely so that there are tests blood tests for that to indicate whether you have a lot of inflammation going on. So they can test for for a glucose right, but thats it theres a problem there because most tests like this are done when were fasting. Right in so i received a lot emails last week saying oh my blood sugar is good i dont have diabetes my a one c which is your average over at a few months time is all good so the caspers hot dog snug their floats didnt have an effect at all i love that sting when you are fasting and not when youre fed. So thats when youre when after a meal is when you see those blood sugar spikes. So why wouldnt doctors sent test after youve had breakfast or Something Like this or had a meal. Well because theyre looking for a constant eye, but thats a great question if you or die diabetic, oftentimes they do do sperandio that means after after a after meal okay, not everybody does that win. Well you dont do that when you go to the doctor, good point. Yeah. So karen we have some diet strategies that you want to tell our viewers about that can help us fight off covid19. So number one. You want to prevent those blood sugar spikes york and then and whatever food you eat you want to help want them to help with inflammation. And then you want to help to improve insulin sensitivity that means that if your when your insulin sensitive that means youre more responsive to insulin insulin is think of insulin as the key that opens the door to your cells and blood sugar in okay, you cant its insensitive and all that blood sugar is just going to linger in your in your blood and its not going. Its going to create this inflammatory response. Thats a really good way to to explain it for a novice like i understand you because you have a question i have about my son for you so yeah, a Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich okay and then i have a. Poached chicken skinless and race, both of them are on white refined white bread all right, lets do you think is going to raise your blood sugar. Why would guess that the poached chicken would be the better one to have so im thinking that the Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich would raise my blood sugar more. So actually youre incorrect. No i think thats okay haha so actually its the chicken sandwich really its going to raise your blood sugar and create those spikes and thats actually not what people think because you protein low carb its not going to have an effect but what they found is that its the saturated that are creating this response. So what happens when you eat a lot of saturated fat. Yeah they found that it goes into your muscles in this because saturated fat is the one that comes from meat it comes from dairy and cheese and wine is embedded in your muscles. It also triggers that insulin resistance. You know can i was thinking that because you mentioned the jam and im thinking jam sugar ok sugar into my cells. Again the top of the towers clipped off a little bit of a breeze left over from the flag you can see the distance. Now a tracking that fog by 1015 or so it looks like it clears most of that shes be general bay but still lingers along the coast and as we go further out even as late as noon 01 00pm were still dealing with kind of overcast my kit some brightening of the skies if you will. Outside the states Business Consumer Services and Housing Agency expected to release more details either today. Or tomorrow in kron fours reyna harvey is live in alameda she has all the details for us high rain. Marty good morning. Its right barbers and hair stylist estheticians could possibly be providing new services at home outside like the barber shop right behind me you see here being cut while the sidewalk here but weve already seen barbers across the bay area get creative and take their services outside like this one barbara we caught up with earlier in the week out in lafayette heading here this barber has taken it upon himself to make sure to keep his customers safe in addition to providing them with mask. We also summer was over in oakland doing the same thing so again here dressers and barber is about to get really creative during the pandemic to continue Offering Services now essentially theres a Business Code in place. That prevents hair stylists and barbers from providing these services outside so here stylists and barbers across the state are asking the governor to get rid of that code so they can start providing services outside and be protected in doing so on friday that tweet came out this was from the Business Consumer Services and housing agencies and that tweet read we recognize the immense hardships that here stylists barbers manicurists estheticians face in light of the covid pandemic some services will be allowed outdoors in the next 72 hours so well have updated information on how to safely offer these personal Care Services outdoors so were looking to this for some sign of guidance or some sort of guidance to come down either today or tomorrow for these different shop owners to know how they can operate again this will be a fix all because for a lot of the barbers and hair salons they cant provide every service that they offer outdoors but this will give them a little leeway and help them start to begin to offer services again. Now reporting here in Alameda County reyna harvey. Kron 4 news, yeah, rain at least its a start and a step in the right direction, thanks left that live report from alameda robin. Everyone you can expect to see smoke in the sky all across the bay area this is due to the fire thats burning in fresno the bay area Quality Management district is extending its air quality advisory through the weekend because of all the smoke and the health risks that it presents this video was taken earlier this week the mineral fire has been burning for 6 days now. So far no word on any injuries, but at least 4 buildings have been destroyed a fire has scorched over 23,000 acres and is only 35 contained as of this morning and evacuation orders are in place for some of those neighborhoods. Lets talk more about whats going on in the environment, the sky, the sun the fog as far as standing by with an update on all hate it. Hey good morning robin good morning, everybody and we still deal with the bay area fog that has not lift even around the immediate they know that may happen with the next couple of hours but along the coast its going to be slow going. Now we do have some clouds but up against the hills you can see here from sfo. Good news is no problems happening here in terms of delays most readings in the east bay in the 60s still have the 50s up to the north bay in a bottle with 61. 57 San Francisco in 62 to check in for san jose current winds. Little bit of a mild breeze around the bay inland a little bit it looks like it picks up a bit out towards the delta and Solano County that will happen a little bit later on today too. But warming up it looks like in Central Valley today from the sun in fact one 01, 1, on for fresno 104 bakersfield, 98 for sacramento were being somewhat shielded out here towards the bay with the fog helping us out even our inland temperatures will be somewhat modest which well show you 82 san diego and 73 for l a x High Pressure is kind the neighborhood a little bit providing a little bit of a modest on shore full flow for the fog in the morning. But still hot in much of the state and even protected out of the deserts. Holding on to hot temperatures today 65 San Francisco to the coast. Tricky here with mid 60s at work we not going to see much the way of clearing. A comparatively speaking the bayside into the 70s now we have burlingame at 74 and some 80s down to the palo alto any 42 going on for redwood city. So the fog should be a morning phenomena to the south they most readings in the 80s here, 94. Morgan hill 81 santa clara 83 for cupertino but even the east bay shoreline to the south still 70s 80s are not here today, 85 Pleasanton Livermore about 86 85 walnut creek with concord and 8674 richmond 72 for oakland, so theyre still the difference on each end of the east bay hills and even up to the north bay a variety 94 vacaville, but 76 for benicia 64 chilly degrees vallejo 81 going on for now at 83 for sonoma 81 santa rosa and about 80 well check in as we head down south some of the forecast has a cooling trend by the middle of the week here and well have a bit of an onshore flow will be a little stronger and that may bring temperatures down not only that but maybe by tuesday night little sprinkle along the coast here and we start to warm up as we head on into the weekend and just warming up to near the lower 90s, no heat spikes here marty all right dave thanks a lot. Heres a look at the Golden Gate Bridge and again were dealing with the shoe of just all this fog and cloud cover lingering around sfo as well, but no delays happening this morning which is nice 60s over most of the real estate for now 74 antioch already warming up a touch that the 7 for San Francisco and Half Moon Bay, which is one of the areas that probably wont clear out too much of the fog throughout the day even into the afternoon, speaking of which just about cleared the bay the models tell us maybe by 10 00am well get some sun peering out in some of the pictures but by 1230. Still lingering in the north bay, a bid in around Half Moon Bay, as you can see as well and then by sunset this just feels back up again it floods the bay typical form. But it helps keep temperatures down a little bit as well now thats the low damp moisture kind of marine layer stuff, were used to but a little bit more aloft is coming up some bubbling up the monsoon for the 4 corner states that will make itself known up in the sierra little bit later on f we had daytime heating so we can see the pulsating of the 2 types of moisture. The First Service moisture clears out by the afternoon there flaring up complements of daytime heating up in the sierra danya somebody it looks like a little and we do the same thing again if your monday theres the flood about breaking away for the fog and then boom the afternoon showers and Thunder Showers up to the spine of the sierra so that will see that the next couple of days, somewhat typical in the summer for today. Weve got morning clouds coastal fog, mild to warm happening. Inland. We do have a cooldown happening by this week. And in the middle of the week temperatures will retreat with those inland highs will be falling to the middle 80s. Tuesday night might even have some drizzle going on along the immediate coast a little bit down the golden gate and bridges and so forth might have a little bit of that for tuesday night into wednesday morning potentially in the next weekend. A minor warmup dont want to call the heats bike or a bump. But im i hear warm up because well see high temperatures returning to the 90s but lower 90s at that it looks like so pretty mild for this time of year 65 San Francisco, 72 for oakland got 83 san jose across the wider geography it does get pretty toasty in the Central Valley today, but 94 antioch and were back to the 80s for livermore unconquered up to the north bay even lower 80s at work of course were battling the fog along the coast will keep that green. Up after the break our Health Expert karen dolan joins us with diet strategies that can prevent or slow blood sugar spikes well have that coming up and also well take a live look outside of traffic moving nice and smooth under foggy skies this morning on the san mateo bridge will be right back. For your health you might remember last week we talked about how high blood sugar will affect our immune response to covid19 well it also has an impact on those with and without diabetes and today, our Health Expert colonel lot joins me to talk about some diet strategies that could prevent or slow blood sugar spikes and reduce the risk of a life threatening inflammatory reaction to the virus. Hi karen good morning. Good morning marty maybe we can start by talking about why blood sugar causes inflammation to begin with. Well think of blood sugar it and i like to use this demo fake blood sugar as shards of glass ok so it is circulating with high blood sugars its circulating through your arteries and its creating damage within that debt delicate inner lining up your arteries right its and whenever theres any type of tissue damage whether you cut your hand or whatever it is a lot of proinflammatory cytokines as immune cells that were talking about last week right well rush to the site and try to help and heal that area. Absolutely so there are tests blood tests for that to indicate whether you have a lot of inflammation going on. Well because theyre looking for a constant eye, but thats a great question if you are to die diabetic, oftentimes they do do sperandio that means after after a after meal, okay, not everybody does that when well you dont do that when you go to the doctor, good point. Yeah. So karen we have some diet strategies that you want to tell our viewers about that can help us fight off covid19. So number one. You want to prevent those blood sugar spikes york and then and whatever food you eat you want to help want them to help with inflammation. And then you want to help to improve insulin sensitivity that means that if your when your insulin sensitive that means youre more responsive to insulin insulin is think of insulin as the key that opens the door to your cells and blood sugar in okay, you cant its insensitive and all that blood sugar is just going to linger in your in your blood and thats not going its going to create this inflammatory response. Thats a really good way to to explain it for a novice like i understand you because you have a question i have about my son for you so yeah, a Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich okay and then i have a. Poached chicken skinless and wish both of them are on white refined white bread all right, lets do you think is going to raise your blood sugar. Why would guess that the poached chicken would be the better one to have so im thinking that the Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich would raise my blood sugar more. So actually youre incorrect. So actually its the chicken sandwich thats going to raise your blood sugar and create those spikes and thats actually not what people think because you protein low carb its not going to have an effect but what they found is that its the saturated that are creating this response. So what happens when you eat a lot of saturated fat. Yeah they found that it goes into your muscles in this because saturated fat is the one that comes from meat it comes from dairy and cheese and when is imbedded in your muscles. It also triggers that insulin resistance. You know can i was thinking that because you mentioned the jam and im thinking jam sugar ok sugar into my cells. Thats why i thought the Peanut Butter and jelly sandwich would have more a more impact right in his ashleigh that that its a strawberry jam off route thats whats going to lower your blood sugar all those plants, they have vital chemicals they have antioxidants those are the things that are going to lower you know the Peanut Butter has mano in saturated fat not saturated is it going to have. A better its going to be more calming to your cells to information it so it has that total opposite effect of the saturated fats. Okay well that makes sense, although the you know, im im still thinking about the chicken, especially skinless but. Im going to have to going to have to move on from get off of that all right karen. So what else you have for us so soluble fiber its very important to put that have soluble fiber because of the fact that this is soluble fiber am going to put it in water yeah, and and and so you will is it does all the ball in water and if you eat more foods with soluble fiber its going to create this discussed, yeah i put this in in water just before we went on the air and see how thick it is yes so its going to slow digestion down if you eat more of these soluble fibers so again we have to read the labels right i mean thats what it comes down to well soluble fiber in real food so were talking berries and beans and goats good great sources. So do a Little Research yeah, those yeah i was just going to say im unfortunately were out of time were going to have to have to have say goodbye but well have all of this on our social media feeds so people can take a look at it and baseball fans of so been waiting for this baseball will be back in the bay area tomorrow the as will host the giants an exhibition game. Before the regular season starts later this week now the 2 teams will be facing off at the coliseum tomorrow and then at oracle park on tuesday. The giants will begin their regular season thursday when they travel to l a to take on the dodgers for a fourgame series, the first home game for the giants will be on july 28th. Now the as will start their regular season on friday at the coliseum against the angels first pitch for tomorrow nights game is 6. 40 at the Oakland Coliseum with of course, no fans at the ballpark. The giants and going yeah or getting a closer look at what things looked like when the regular season does start this is video that shows what social distancing will look like for the players and this is at the mets yankees exhibition game yesterday you can see the players are sitting in the stand under a tent because of course it will be just too difficult to socially distance there in the dugout.
