Bay Area Health Officials are encouraging everyone to stay home this 4th of july weekend now this comes as the state and the bay area continue to see an increase in coronavirus cases. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson live in Contra Costa County in the east bay this morning. She has all the details sarah. Marty this 4th of july was supposed to be the perfect recipe for an amazing time, its falling on a saturday this year and clearly the weather is great but not this year the coronavirus is also spiking right now so its a recipe for disaster that is why they are urging people to stay home as much as possible why well take a look at the numbers you can see that the percentage increases across the bay area in a lot of the counties is surging at an alarming and threatening out to take a look i mean its its a lot of numbers on your screen but just to name a few contra costa seeing a 129 increase in cases in a 111 increase in deaths from may 31st to july 2nd and then looking up there it may not the county they saw a 207 increase in cases and the smaller percentage, 33 spending increase in deaths that we put all this data provided by each countys Health Department on our website for you to review if you want to look back at that look at your county more closely, but looking at total numbers Alameda County is still doing the worst in terms of the most cases Bay Area Health of officers put out a joint statement urging people to stay at home this Holiday Weekend and its because of the numbers on your screen there looking at data and theyre saying ok we see an increased amount of cases or on the rise were heading into the Holiday Weekend and were at a point where quite frankly people are tired of staying home were starting to reopen and now were having to go backwards and its all in the time for this 4th of july weekend traditionally we go see fireworks this this weekend we have barbecues we hang out friends and family but its kinda the point where Health Officers are saying you should only hang out with the people you live with and avoid gatherings of course if youre outside your home practice social distancing, i mean you probably sound like broken records here but something that has to be repeated wear a Face Covering when you leave your home when you can keep that distance wash hands, if you feel sick in any way avoid being around others that is truly how we can stop the spread of the coronavirus i have been live all week across the bay area asking people. Well for inmates at the San Mateo County jail are being treated for covid19 the Sheriffs Office says that there are among 8 inmates who tested positive for the virus. Well new this morning firefighters in concord they put out a fire that was burning at a 3 story Apartment Building that was under construction check out the photos these are pictures of the fire which started at around 1145 last night, this is right along willow road in concord firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading nobody was injured the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Well saying in the east bay, the contra costa chp is looking for the driver of a white van that was reportedly reportedly hit and seriously injured a 7 yearold we have a photo of that and there it is right there. Investigators say that the hit and run happens thursday afternoon on vine avenue between leslie and myrtle avenue in martinez. They say the child was riding his scooter when he was hit. He was flown to oakland Childrens Hospital and is in stable condition. If you have any information about this incident you are asked to call police. Also in the east bay, a deadly crash had traffic crawling for hours on highway 4. It happened about 1230 a yesterday on the eastbound lane just west of Discovery Bay blvd in Discovery Bay. Witnesses told investigators a 2006 pontiac sedan was going about a 100 miles an hour. When the driver lost control and veered across all westbound lanes going into the eastbound lanes and then crashing head on with a jeep. The driver of the pontiac died at the scene the driver of the jeep suffered minor injuries. And chp owes chp still looking into whether the driver of the pontiac was impaired by alcohol or drugs. Robin good morning, im live this morning at ocean beach and you know a lot of people were planning to come out here to the beach over the Holiday Weekend which is why the citys 20 take steps to king will say so theyre going to be closing parking lots like the one you see behind me no one can come out hes already started doing that now pedestrians as well as bicycle is are still going to be able to use the beach of already seen some people out here running this morning, but you cannot bring your car so were going to show you on the list that scott were going to show you on your screen that list of beaches that if you come the parking lots are going to be closed all around the city of San Francisco take a look here you have that china beach crissy field fort fuse in ocean beach marina greenland in Golden Gate Bridge. This is that list comprised of those beaches that if you show up, you wont be able to park your car and so now its a just a matter of fact if theyre going to be people that steal decide to come out and use the beach robin the reason why the closing these parking lots because theyve seen an uptake in cases here in the city and across the bay area so this is their way to try to stop that spread does. Well beaches are places where people enjoy especially over the holidays to come with their families and have a good time now lets take a listen. Well Half Moon Bay is also closing its beaches through sunday, the closures come after Governor Newsom ordered parking lots and all state beaches to close for the Holiday Weekend. Half moon bays mayor is actively discouraging visitors to the city dont do it dont go out there. He announced the stretch of the popular coastal trail between seymour Bridget Kelly avenue will be closed for the next 3 days. All right here in the bay area there are over 29,000 cases and over 590 deaths. Were seeing the most cases in Alameda County with over 5700 infections. But the virus remains deadliest in Santa Clara County with 156 deaths we have a full breakdown of cases by county by city on our website can always find it on kron 4 dot com. And as more restrictions are put in place across most of california Governor Newsom says hes established a strike team to enforce the states covid19 rules now that Team Includes a number of workplace and business licensing agencies like cal osha, alcohol Beverage Control and the chp but theres still a lot of questions on how rules will actually be enforced. This comes after permits were approved for 300 person protest to weddings and a 50 person demonstration all scheduled for the 4th of july. To how you address what some might perceive a mixed messaging here. Yeah i dont have the benefit of the details of the permits chp is evaluating those permits now to see about how that can be done. Taken into account, the the governors orders and directives that we want for appropriate social distancing and limiting. So for now the state is primarily targeting businesses that are out of compliance with the guidelines that includes the face mask mandate. Now to the south bay this morning more than 45 School Principals and administrators are in self quarantine because of potential coronavirus exposure. This comes following a meeting last week for one School District employee tested positive for coronavirus then a few days after that happened a few days after attending a meeting and as a result, the other principals and administrators that were at that meeting were also told to shelter in place to get tested and so far no one has tested positive. The district says the complexity of developing a plan for reopening schools in the district in the fall is why they chose to hold this meeting in person rather than online. I know there may be some there some the question. Every decision we make. But the reality is there is no road map for this pandemic. Although the School District says it followed all Health Department guidelines Santa Clara County Health Department saying quote the health order currently in place allows local governments to conduct essential business in person and to decide for themselves themselves, what is essential in this case, its not clear. Why meeting in person was necessary. This is a lesson for other Government Agencies even though they have the authority to hold an in person meeting it doesnt mean they should exercise the right to do so unquote. The coronavirus has flipped the year upside down and now experts say that the pandemic will likely have a Lasting Impact on the countrys labor market for the next decade. A 10 year forecast by the Congressional Budget Office reports of 4. 4 Unemployment Rate at the end of 2030 which is higher than pre pandemic levels of 3. 5 in february this year. Just a lark blart belisario executive director of the Bay Area Council economic institute. So that those projections could change and are highly dependent on public response policy response and trajectory of the virus. I do think though that when you look back at previous recessions, there is something that you can learn particularly the last recession. And in some parts of the country that actually never recovered country overall it to take about a decade to kind of get back to those Employment Level so its not out of the realm of possibility. Well there are a lot of unknowns and uncertainties that could change those projections. The bay area has typically come out of recessions more quickly than the rest of the country because of its tech and innovation industries, but that trend could reverse because a lot of those companies are giving employees permanent options to work remotely from home.
