Florida georgia idaho, tennessee and utah on friday these 5 states recorded their highest singleday Coronavirus Infection numbers since the pandemic began and saturday florida reported 9,585 new cases topping the previous record set the day before. Now mayors in the state announcing several popular beaches will be closed for the 4th of july weekend we expected huge crowds to be at the beach it would have been very hard for us. To control our social distancing having people abide by the rules we dont want a spike on top of a spike nationwide 32 states saw surges in case numbers over the past 7 days. This has pushed 11 states to make the tough decision to pause or roll back their reopening if i could go back and redo anything it probably would have been too slow down the opening of bars people go to bars to get close and to drink and to socialize. And thats the kind of thing that the stokes the spread of the coronavirus. And according to a new Antibody Survey by the centers for Disease Control and prevention the actual number of those infected could be 6 to 24 times greater than previously thought medical experts say theyre not surprised youre still at a point where were not able to get tested every Single Person that we apply to our Emergency Departments around the country. Now to our 4 zone forecast as we step outside and see how things look at the Golden Gate Bridge on saturday evening and pam looks like were falling into the some routine along our coast warmer inland. Thats right lets check in with our chief meteorologist for the details laurie, i get a little windy out there 2 guys in spots seeing some gusty winds already over 30 Miles Per Hour that far certainly moving in the bay right now alcatraz you can see right there if you look very closely you can just make out a couple buildings there in San Francisco with the clouds rolled in now the temperatures cool off in the San Francisco effect all around the bay area no 90s today but were close still warm 89 degrees in livermore 84. In concord 72 degrees in santa rosa 61. Well below the average in San Francisco, 72 degrees in oakland today and 86 degrees in san jose speaking winds. Yeah theyve been kicking up 90 Miles Per Hour now in San Francisco, 22 in mill valley, 28 in fairfield right now 15 a little more, but all around youre seeing a healthy breeze and i think its going to strengthen as we head in toward tomorrow that may cause some fire concerns in parts of the bay area. Temperatures right now weve got 56 degrees in San Francisco to 61 in oakland, 69 in san jose 60s elsewhere around the bay area except right along the coastline tomorrow morning we wake up to a few clouds early on and then i think becoming mostly sunny and breezy temperatures going to knowsley cooler then by the afternoon we still may sneak in a couple 80s inland, but the big story tomorrow all the winds kicking up maybe some those gusts over 30 and 40 Miles Per Hour guys we have more on that coming up. Thank you lawrence also coming up on kron 4 news at 8 a threedecade age drop there is concern the new data on just who is catching the coronavirus plus problems during a pandemic why Health Care Workers were pounding the Pavement Outside their Southern California hospital. Plus American Airlines is ditching social distancing. Im noelle bellow coming up here from a travel analyst and geico loves helping riders get to where theyre going, so to help even more, geico is giving new and current customers a fifteen percent credit on their motorcycle policies with the geico giveback. And because were committed for the long haul, the credit lasts your full policy term. The geico giveback. Helping riders focus on the road ahead. This week an American Airlines announced it will not be blocking middle seats anymore since april the airline had been capping the number of passengers on aircraft to just 85 of capacity, however, starting next wednesday july the 1st the airline will no longer count the number of open seats and that decision is raising some alarms in light of the recent spike in covid19 cases call for snow bellow joins us live from our newsroom now with more from a travel analyst well thats right. The big question here is why right ken and pam why would the airline choose to make this change in the same week that we see a rise in cases across the country specifically in the states where it has major hubs i spoke with the travel industry analyst who says hes disappointed in the move but not surprised. Has a lot of debt they seen their revenues fall like all other airlines so im not surprised that they are trying to sell as many seats during the peak Summer Season as they can. But its a disappointing decision nonetheless, just ahead of the 4th of july weekend American Airlines alerts passengers they will no longer be blocking middle seats in the name of social distancing. The move puts them in line with united and Spirit Airlines allowing flights to be booked to Capacity Starting july first im concerned that American Airlines has made a very poor decision here since april american has been capping the number of passengers on each flight. Their average load for the month of june was about 63 when asked why they chose to make the change now americans said quote we expect a busy weekend around the 4th of july holiday. The load factor cap was instituted before we had implemented multiple layers of protection for customers which includes clean airports and planes healthy team members and requirements for customers and those who service them to wear face coverings with all of these layers of protection, we are comfortable removing the load factor cap and quote travel industry analyst Henry Harteveldt says the timing of this move could end up hurting the airline in the long run or can airlines is clearly showing that they value profits over people if passengers are concerned about flying as they are now. And if we have to fear interest issues about traveling as we do now, Airlines Need to respect that and trying to make us feel confident about traveling American Airlines is not doing that other airlines are. Those other airlines that hes referring to our southwest delta and jetblue as they are all still blocking middle seats or restricting the number of seats for sale on each flight. American is offering flexibility for passengers alerting them if their flight is reaching capacity and giving them the option to change it. But american says so far only about 4 of passengers who have gotten those notifications have chosen to change their flight can am. Noel thank you and more younger people are starting to get infected with the coronavirus that is a trend being seen now particularly along the southeast in florida, the median age of confirmed cases has dropped by 30 years from 65 years old in march to 35 years old now. Weve seen particularly over the last we is the real explosion in new months or younger demographic. Thanks to a house party for a cousins birthday. And 3 days later in white star takes in saying that we all wasnt feeling. Well. That patient jeri ward says he is one of 10 people in their late 20s and early 30s who attended a party in south florida all of whom have been diagnosed with covid19 Officials Say the issue of young people gathering together is compounded by the fact that so many of them im not wearing face coverings for the 9 to 500 new cases were reported in florida setting a record for the most cases in one day in the sunshine state, and the death toll is now up to almost 3400 despite this uptick. Florida Governor Ron Desantis has yet to implement a statewide mandate to wear face masks, he did impose one new restriction ordering all bars in the state to stop serving alcohol on their premises. Several bar owners say the ban caught them off guard. We cant stand another 3 months being shut down. Just serving drinks, you know like to go drink. Thats just not going to. Pay the mortgage. The fact that our governor was best so progressive with reopening. Was and we stand behind him and we were very happy about that and at this point it feels like hes turned around and now hes singling out standalone bars wheres restaurants, Retail Stores in all these other venues are open for business. The order says bars can continue to sell drinks to go restaurants may continue to serve food and alcohol at tables, but any gets more than 50 of its revenue from alcohol sales has to stop serving. At Riverside Community hospital east of los angeles nurses are pounding the pavement over staffing shortages Health Care Workers there say that theres been an inadequate amount of workers during the pandemic todays demonstration is part of a plan to 10 day strike workers complaints include not enough personal protective equipment, not enough breaks and not following state mandated nurse to patient ratios. Back here at home fire crews are monitoring the scene of an earlier brush fire in Solano County the fire burned 12 acres just off interstate 6. 80 south of core delia we have seen some windy conditions across the bay area and there is a red flag warning starting tomorrow for parts of Solano County. The humidity dropping down to 15 to about 25 so very dry out there with the windy conditions of fire got started at that time it could cause a major problem all right overnight tonight were going to see those Winds Continuing in fact the altamonte passing some very gusty winds tomorrow morning things settle down just a little bit but still breezy outside and then we start pick things up into the afternoon again and look at those winds coming out of the north youve got northerly component the winds dry wind and you start to see winds of 2030 Miles Per Hour gets Even Stronger than that how it that you start to see some purple here look up to our scale. Those winds gusting over 40 Miles Per Hour in Solano County as we head toward early on monday morning. So certainly concern for fires during that period. Outside right now weve got some cloudy skies in the San Francisco doubt over the bay but looking pretty good inland. Those clouds going kind of dissipate though you got a cold front sweeping through the bay area right now and thats going up to bring the winds also help in the mix up the low clouds and the fog so certainly looks like things are going to be changing as were going to see those winds kicking up again tonight and tomorrow temperatures. You feel that cool breeze, 60s and 70s inland some 80s in the interior valleys looks like well watch those winds calm down next week before coming back on the 4th of july.
