Kron 4 shots mccaul joins us now live from the newsroom with details on their game plan jonathan can a tough task for those Law Enforcement agencies in richmond alone fireworks calls have jumped more than 80 from just this time last year. Officials believe there are several factors behind those calls but tracking down the folks actually responsible for that. Officials say wont be easy. Right now police in Contra Costa County find themselves in the middle of a fireworks flight every year we normally start receiving calls ground early june this year we started receiving calls as early as april in richmond alone fireworks calls of jumped 82 from just this time last year. So certainly hot still in many spots well inland 96 degrees that was the hardest part around the bay area in antioch and then you get inside the bay and just enough of the sea breeze to keep those temperatures down so much still 70s and some 80s in some cooler 50s and 60s out along the coast. Close to a 7200 jump in the number of cases since yesterday that brings the total number of cases to more than 190,000 between monday and tuesday the state recorded 5,000 in 19 additional new cases, more than 5600 californians have died of covid19 in the bay area there are now more than 21,000 confirmed cases and 545 deaths all bay area county saw an increase in the number of cases today. Alameda county reported 2 deaths from the virus in Contra Costa County reported 5 deaths. Dozens of coronavirus cases are linked to a nursing home in concord the States Health Department Says 75 patients and Staff Members at the san miguel villa nursing home tested positive for the virus. 14 patients and at least one caregiver died because of the virus. We have reached out to that nursing home in concord to get more details were still waiting to hear back. East Bay Hospitals are treating more covid19 patients this week than they were last week. John muir health in walnut creek and conquered has set aside a unit on their campuses to care for an influx of covid19 patients. Doctor nick mica says the medical director of Clinical Operations and says his hospitals are safe and prepared for a surge in cases, a surge. And as they have done for other departments. They of very detailed report as to what they found were were or are issues within the agency. We came up with 45 now that being said the department of justice is also the California Department of justice is also coming in to. Look at our department do an analysis of it and theyre going to use the oilrich or as art of what they are going to do in terms of of following through on the recommendations. Clint is i like to say we already have to some extent day funded the police in that we have the lowest officer per crimes staffing of any department in america and we have been investing in new policies practices as well as the strongest and most independent Citizen Police commission in the country but what excites everyone and i mean everyone including our Police Officers is standing up a new type of non Law Enforcement response says were looking to migrate responsibilities that police really shouldnt hold and that is by creating a mobile Community Based Response Unit with medics as well as Mental Health clinicians that can respond to the type of crises that really dont warrant a badge and a gun i am concerned that we do have to continue to respond to those 911 calls and a scathing grand jury report just came out saying that oakland is not doing a good enough job. So we want to create this new response format. Before we start to cut away staffing that has traditionally been used to respond to those 911 calls. Plans are in the works in san jose tree form that Police Department mayor sam liccardo laid out an ambitious 9 point plan today. It includes steps to improve transparency and accountability in arbitration and disciplinary decisions. Independent investigations of alleged police books misconduct, a ban on rubber bullets and a review of use of force policy. The mayor says the plans reflect his commitment to reforming the Police Department without the funding it. I believe the overwhelming majority of our residents. Want us to continue funding the police because they want Police Officers to show up particularly in communities that are heavily him by crime. Our residents are overwhelmingly telling us we want more police. The action comes as protesters call to defund the Police Department amid outrage over Police Brutality across the country. There is now a call for Police Reform in antioch now this after the citys Police Union President posted a comment on facebook. The governor says state officials will not be offering test for travelers because that could lead to congestion travelers who choose not to get a pre travel tests will have to quarantine in hawaii for 2 weeks.
