She is joining in solidarity saying that she is also just outraged by what she saw on the video that shes a native san franciscan that she. One is progress made as well but she says that she has a job to do and thats why things started spiraling out of control towards the later in that day that she declared a state of emergency. And thats why people were told the dispersed at around 8 oclock in the evening. Let me show you video what happened after that many people they went home peacefully know problems with that but as always whenever there is a protest there are a few people that break away from them and then they start to cause. The destruction chaos specifically around the Civic Center Area where trash bins were set on fire they actually at one point even tried to go on to the freeway Police Officers from the San Francisco Police Department and mutual aid they moved in and here is the latest number in the overnight hours they arrested about 80 people most of them were juveniles they were gotten they were tagged so to speak got their information and release the others well. Some of them felony arrests and then when they looked through some of their backpacks they saw weapons and in one case even a molotov cocktail but for all in all a pretty peaceful night by San Francisco Police Departments standards. Heres mayor london breed talking about what happened over the weekend. Extremely upset. Because unfortunately with some of the vandals they thought this was a game. They thought this was funny. And this is not funny. To damage property. To set fires that could lead to someone elses death. So a deal with some of this cloud cover at first and then that will be lifting off into the afternoon hours it looks like live shot coming in from you from timber on we can see oh look at that clear patch trying to make its way through but dont expect a lot of clearing until we get into the afternoon. For today that will set the stage for kind of a sunny week and i want that too. Thus far temperatures upper 50s in the far east bay antioch make it up to 60 midfifties up to the north bay was 60 san jose and upper 50s for much of the peninsula. Heres how it breaks down for you by late morning were took and talking about moving to the 60s into the 70s by 1 oclock were at 76. So some scattered clouds lingering a little bit there. But well manage to get some high temperatures up there around 80 or so coming up in a bit well take a look at your 4 zone forecast and that extended robin whats going on. All right. Thank you dave will to the east we now want to creek was just one of several bay area cities to issue a curfew last night kron 4 Sarah Stinson is live this morning in walnut creek to take a look at the damage sarah. Robin that curfew expired at 5 oclock this morning it will go back into effect tonight at 8 oclock live here at Broadway Plaza. It is quite eerie to walk around here at Banana Republic you could literally just walking right now there is glass broken everywhere. They havent come yet here to boarded up however police are on scene theyre telling people to get out of the area. This is private property so keep in mind if you want to just come down here and just look around not to steal anything just to see the damage a lot of people are doing its not a good idea. This is private Property Police are here to remind you that theres also Broadway Plaza police on scene take a look at this video i was walking through the outdoor mall you can see hangers scattered everywhere with yellow caution tape about a 100 people came here and looted stores like macys whats those pretzels chaos. I saw that was pretty crazy to see had 2 broken windows and someone stole the entire cash register. Whether or not money was inside we dont know, but the whole door was stolen. Old navy was hit several glass windows can be seen shattered victorias secret was also low looted. The front doors broken into and inside clothing racks just empty mannequins toppled over the entire mall is covered in either shattered glass or. You know clothing hangers and the police Walnut Creek Police received over a 100 calls of for help or you know because of the looting that has occurred here. We do know that they responded to several calls they came here immediately trying to stop the looters as well as they responded to a woman who was shot near one of the stores that had been burglarized they treated her immediately and an ambulance who came by and she was transferred to hospital shes already been released. Shes recovering now from that gunshot wound theyre still investigating that just talked to a man who says that he has lived here for 40 years and has never seen anything like this. He said its disheartening to walk by here and see shattered glass everywhere like Banana Republic, he walked by here walking on the shattered glass just completely disheartened and that is kind of what were seeing and hearing word that theres a march today at 3 oclock were still trying to confirm that and were talking to the mayor of walnut creek later in the 9 oclock hour of our show so stay tuned, well have to ask her actions and think about that for now again police on scene at Broadway Plaza please avoid the area. Im live in walnut creek Sarah Stinson back to the great advice. Thank you sarah. And now we move to San Francisco where protests also continued on sunday stores there were vandalized and looted as well kron fours will tran live this morning on Market Street. Taking a look at the damage thats pretty extensive. Well. Pretty extensive marty if youre a Business Owner and youre waking up this morning and coming down to downtown San Francisco in your store was not analyze our windows broken consider yourself very lucky because a lot of stores in downtown San Francisco. Look like the one right behind me this is the gary delhi story and you can clearly see its been boarded up not exactly sure if the windows are broken or if they did that to prevent the windows from breaking but this is pretty much a snapshot of what you will see if you drive through Market Street or even walk down to this location. Let me show you video of over the weekend protests were happening all over the country, San Francisco, no different thousands of people actually showed up to civic center as well as city hall. You can see them in front of their theyre protesting the death of george floyd and at one point they actually they were silent for about 9 minutes, 9 minutes, its important because thats the amount of time that officer kept is need on George Floyds neck. There was a speaker. Actually reading the last few words of George Floyds life it was ok, no chaos whatsoever they were being monitored by the San Francisco Police Department but then as the day moved on on sunday, San Francisco mayor london breed decided that chaos probably would happen in the overnight hours and thats why she declared a state of emergency saying that the curfew would begin at 8 oclock at night and go all the way until 5 oclock in the morning. Many people dispersed many others did not they actually left that area and just fanned throughout San Francisco at one point even trying to get on to the bay bridge. The Police Officers. They followed a lot of people specifically in the Civic Center Area where they saw some trash bins set on fire things thrown at Police Officers. One Police Officer did suffer a minor injury. Police officers had the right gear on they moved in to make arrests altogether 80 people were arrested a lot of them are juveniles so they got their information and released now as far as what happened and whats going to happen moving forward, heres San Francisco police chief bill scott talking about the weekend of unrest. The cause of a Public Health emergency that we are are still in by the way. To enhance the charges for those who are breaking into businesses doing during a state of emergency to add. Looting. To the charges for those of you who are thinking about coming to San Francisco too. Cause havoc. Were going to be ready and were going to do what we need to do in order to protect the city. Now san fran says San Francisco mayor london breed she is in solidarity with the protests she too is outraged by what happened with george floyd she says she clearly understands the outrage among the African American community, especially in San Francisco because she is a native san franciscan but she says she has a job to do a lot of the protesters meridian robin they actually gathered outside her home but it looks like Nothing Happened to our own the good news to pass along we are not hearing of any fatalities in San Francisco. They did call in mutual aid about 200 Police Officers from surrounding agencies, including from what im hearing as far away as been sure in San Francisco just to help keep the peace and also just in case things erupt and its beyond the control of the local authorities, the California National guard they had been told to stand by back to you. All right well. Will tran reporting live for us from San Francisco robin. This is about him in all those who are people of color who supported every single day from the trauma that we have to endure every single day please give one moment just towards in. Well mayor london breed and other San Francisco city leaders kneeled for george floyd in the Mission District this happened at 24th and mission over the weekend brita kidney alongside Roberto Hernandez who many refer to as the mayor of the mission and a tweet breed said that quote San Francisco must remember what we are protesting for end quote last night on kron 4 news we spoke with a social commentator host of cnns united shades of america, author comedian and bay area native w kamau bell. We asked him about the social unrest over George Floyds killen killing take a listen. A number black men have been killed on armed over the last few years weve seen protests but nothing like this what are you a trip attribute this activity to why this death with mister floyd is different. Thank you have a deep and i cant separate this from the moment, were still in the middle of a Global Pandemic and its easy to forget that because everything is going on in the news right now. But people are jobless. They are so many people are sick. Many people are seeing that people are pretty die and especially the black and brown communities they hit harder by this Global Pandemic and so in the midst of this theres this feeling of like we cant even get a break from racism in the middle of a Global Pandemic i think it you can separate this from the from the pandemic. Come out im curious about your thoughts about the white interaction in all of this said and it goes both ways as you know. There are a lot of white people participating in this protest. Lot of white people being blamed for some of the violence and the looting. A lot of white people supporting the cause a lot of white people may be some skeptics and certainly there are still races out there as we all know, im just wondering from your perspective. What can a white person do for you in this cause that you think is positive that can make a difference. I first thing they need to start thinking about theyre doing it for themselves structural and institutional racism hurts all of us is hurt black people the hardest hits us. The hardest. So i think they need to stop thinking about doing something for the black community and actually only a more equitable and just society a more a society where everyone has access to education and health care and the criminal Justice System is is it is as equity and it is better for all of us anyway but to stop getting caught up in what can i do for black people or to help them it at the i would say is that we also have to in the bay area theres a long history of protesting, we know not every white person so to the protests in the same way we can all recognize those people when they show up we had protests in Downtown Berkeley a few years ago and there are white people stopping the black bloc anarchists from breaking into the trader joes so i think if you really want if you can get out there if you thought youd be safe out there which i think thats key again when the move a Global Pandemic then get out there and use your whiteness to stop these other white peoples user white is between those white people and the damage they do. As you know the 1968 Poor Peoples Campaign by doctor king was a very diverse movement. It was designed to try and organize people who are poor against the structure that was hurting them all not just one race. These demonstrations are diverse as can was alluding to what do you make of that that there is so much a diversity involved in the protests were seeing all across the country and in towns where we dont usually see this kind of protest. You know i again we come to the bay area this is not new to us the black panthers working with lots of other multiracial groups in their in their act of trying to bring justice to the black community. We you know this is the bay area. This is what we do were used to the fact that we know it takes more than just one of us and all the help we can get its all hands on deck situation but across the country. Yeah, go ahead im sorry i think around the rest the country. This is new to them theyre not used to seeing other see white people and and latino people and asian people shoulder to shoulder with them, but i think its that time again to call people out and go if you want to help you you need to help us to be a lot of around the country than i used to see multiracial movements but the bay area this is what we do and its harder now because of gentrification because of all the money to get pushed out, but this is what we do and so thats why i call upon these billionaires who live in the bay area like jackson twitter dont is donating money now to actually support these causes. Well weve posted the full interview with w kamau bell online just head over to our website kron 4 dot com if youd like to check it out. I know its going to be good morning to robin good morning, everybody, its a kind of a gloomy do middle and we have, but its not going to be what were going to have this afternoon. So dont let it spoil your day and enjoyed a little bit because its providing little bit of cooling relief compared to whats coming our way tuesday and wednesday, so yeah were heats bike. Heres a shot from timber on right now as we can see still that cloud cover hanging around this what robins talking about ul football. Yeah we have the fog which appears to be clearing. Sfo no delays happening this morning. But you can get an idea still some of that fog kind of lingering about a little bit satellite picture where we kind of some leftover business from the weekend looks and so looks like in the Southern California money to get some bitter patter of some rain happening there excuse me but for us, its clearing skies into the afternoon. And mild temperatures as we go today even for central valley, mid to upper 80s k 88 for fresno 86 bakersfield, 85 of criminal in the Central Coast of the 60s it looks like for today 72 for la x and san diego checking in at 78 letting futurecast do its thing here we see the clouds to part nicely into the afternoon. Maybe in some stray showers up there in the mountains, the sierra dont see much happening tomorrow as we warm up in a big way youre going to miss a big difference been in the inland valleys compared to today. The flow pattern for the week ahead somewhat uneventful until we get to the weekend. Theres an opportunity of rain the resurgence of some cooler air into early next week means potentially some mountain snows going on here in the early june, were still talking about that little bit and maybe even and earlier even middle up next week too so we have some opportunities of rain to look out for to be a 7 day.
