Nevada felt a 6. 5 magnitude earthquake just after 4 oclock this morning it happened east of the Sierra Nevada range near the californianevada border and this is the damage that was done to highway 95 thats the main route between las vegas and reno tonight that road is still closed while crews work to fix the damage. Researchers are calling it about as largest quake in 65 years causing a twoinch gap there in the street. The quake was also felt throughout the Central Valley here in california. But thankfully. No injuries were reported. Joining us now working from home is our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow with a look at the weekend forecast. Justine certainly its going to be an active weekend here. But you know not often we talk about nevada and earthquakes you think about all those earthquakes in california, but certainly yeah they had a big one today that a 6. 5 thats a large quake near to no bond of course that is a sparsely populated area and that is some good news. There as a very active area known as the walker land that stretches about 60 miles across an active fault zone, if you ever been out that way you get into the desert out there, but you can see all the volcanic activity in around that area. So certainly a very active part of the state right around the bay area today certainly a lot of sunshine and well looked like a Beautiful Day out there and just see some high clouds drift overhead this evening going to see more of that throughout the night tonight and tomorrow 2 is were going to see some changes coming our way big time throughout the weekend temperature wise just slightly above the average today in San Francisco 6571 in oakland 74. As we head through the night tonight were going to see some partly cloudy skies and well things change for the weekend High Pressure kind of scoot eastward and that front gets a little bit closer but most your day tomorrow is going to be dry that rain doesnt come in until tomorrow night so lets see if we can time things out for you just a bit taking you through the night tonight to see some high clouds up above the patchy fog down below by 6. 30 in the evening. There you go you start to see some showers getting closer than overnight as we head in towards sunday really a slowmoving storm i think we see a pretty good soaker out there at some places maybe an inch maybe an inch and a half in the north bay and some of the weather spots that being said temperature wise youre looking at numbers tomorrow before the rain comes in easily in the 60s 70s so really kind of a warm start your weekend. Then that rain really kind of roles in specially on sunday and in the money with a chance of thunderstorms and showers continuing justine also into tuesday as well thats very lives forecast back to you in the studio. Up next a new antibody treatment is being developed from cows learn why scientists believe that these animals could save lives. Four plus one is. 16. laughter how many pints of iced tea are left in the pitche times. Ten. So, wait. errhhhhh do you want to show us the continents on the. No. It is not going good. Their investment into our children is beyond what we can even imagine. Appreciate all that you do. Family is all togetherect. And we switched to geico; saved money on our boat insurance. How could it get any better than this . Dad, i just caught a goldfish theres no goldfish in this lake. Whoa its pure gold. Were gonna be rich. Were gonna be rich it only gets better when you switch and save with geico. Cows to the covid19 rescue maybe because cattle is now being used to develop to a possible antibody treatment for coronavirus Elizabeth Cohen has the details. Has there just like us really these cows are just like us in one important way a way that could possibly save lives during the pandemic these cows have human chromosomes. Youve given the cow a human immune system. Well weve certainly given macau a part of the human immune system. And so this company sa be biotherapeutics in south dakota is hoping their blood could help make a drug to fight covid19. Heres how it works. Using genetic engineering scientists create a cow embryo that contains parts of human chromosomes that embryo becomes the calf and then a cow. Noninfectious part of the Novel Coronavirus is injected into that cow because of the genetic engineering the cow produces human antibodies to the virus. Those antibodies are collected from the cow and one is purified become a drug that might work to combat the coronavirus in humans. So these cows or plasma donors just like humans who recovered from coronavirus and donate blood. But the cows have a big advantage and that is their big and have a lot of blood to give. So its one of the reasons that we chose capital because obviously there are large animal. Plus they can donate plasma 3 times a month, humans can only donate once a month. Another company ridge enron is trying a similar approach with mice who are engineer to have portions of the human immune system. The scientists call the magic mice they extract in clone the best antibodies. We literally. Genetically humanized mice we put in the genes for the human immune system into my so that these mice have. Pretty much exactly a human immune system. Both Companies Plan to start human Clinical Trials early this summer if all goes well when might this drug be on the market so if all goes well, we expect that we will have to drug on the market by early next year of course theres no telling if this will work, but hopefully these part human animals will play a role in saving lives during the pandemic.
