Bmw and thats when he was struck by another oncoming car he died on scene the driver of this eye on hasnt taken the as i said 2 other cars are d involved there further down in the and theyre still trying investigate if multiple crashes happened after or before the man was struck but chp says this is just another tragic story of a good person trying to help someone else, but it really just puts that person in major were standing outside of his vehicle which is inherently unsafe anytime youre outside of your vehicle standing in lanes we appreciate when people to try to help out however any time that youre not of lanes of traffic its extremely dangerous. Thats why we highly recommend if anybody is involved in a traffic collision to either get out of lanes as soon as possible or at the very least make sure that all lighting they are possible is lit up including your hazard lights on and stay inside your vehicle using any safety restraint system the eye so your seat belts well as youre about to spark that system its an extremely tragic event when you do have somebody thats just trying to other people that are in a bad situation and then they themselves get hurt. And youre looking at a live look right now theyre towing the silver bmw that again is that the car that the Good Samaritan was driving and this is right before the 3rd avenue exit as you can see only one lane is open chp is here of course trying to investigate and get this scene cleared. But also caltrans is here fired just lash so theyre working to get this cleared, they know this is a huge impact too. The morning people out there trying to get to work and they said that they hope to have it reopened around 6 oclock so a lot to stand by and see if they can get it done by then but for now this is a live look one lane open and its causing a major backup here on one oh one in san mateo for now send it back to you in the studio. James romney ads for a couple of miles as a matter of fact and so the accident yes, its in san mateo but were already starting to see a it backed up well into burlingame you can see the traffic map here the sensors picking up that solid red lines traffic crawling anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour. And its backed up to getting closer to what that broadway avenue exit in the burlingame area so definitely want to avoid south one to one right at 3rd avenue in san mateo because of that accident instead jump over to 2. 80 thats going to be a much better bet for you this morning, im not tracking any problems or delays and then you can take 92 back to one oh one getting san mateo a better news here the bay bridge toll plaza look at this looking grave. All right, lets switch things over to weather you have better news how see some im good weather into the weekend, hey john yes certainly not certainly not bad news in the weather department. Were back time now is 5. 30 the breaking news this morning is impacting the morning commute, especially southbound on 1 one in san mateo and unfortunately a Good Samaritan was just trying to help someone in the row this person was hit and killed trying to help another driver kron 4 Sarah Stinson live on scene with the latest sara. Person driving a syon hit the sound wall then the Center Divide and thats when they were just stopped in the middle of the lanes and a man in a bmw just put his flashers on and tried to help this person thats when he was struck by another car take a look at the video you can see the cars involved this all happened at one 54 when chp got reports of a solo car crash just before 3rd avenue exit on one oh one southbound lanes the syon stopped in the middle lanes thats when that man who i told you about that hes in his late 20s or early 30s, he pulled over to help and got hit he died on scene the driver of this island has been taken to stamford with some injuries there are 2 other cars involved its unclear if they crashed into the scion or what but definitely one of them hit the man and chp says this is just another tragic story of a Good Samaritan trying to help somebody on the road. Then put. Self in danger, they say its never a good idea this stop on the freeway and try to help someone its better to just call because like you see here this person by hitting killed very tragic. The coroner has left the scene caltrans and chp remain on scene and they have a toad the bmw theyre in the process of telling other cars, including that syon one is a major back to the morning commute only one lane is open that is certain point when you see the crash scene then when you get down towards the 3rd avenue exit it reopens but you can see from here quite a backup occurring they hope to have it reopened within 30 unclear if thats going to true they may be a little optimistic on that so stay tuned right here to the kron 00 04am morning news if its not open will be live at 06 00am to provide you the latest for now all son back to studio. Rebecca, yeah, there definitely are you going to sit in that mass that is for sure because its backed up for miles so again the crash here we go happened in san mateo south 1, one right at 3rd avenue, but the back of extends well into burlingame and on the southbound side now look at the slow down on the northbound side. Were also tracking that as well and its a thanks to a new accident thats in the back up that stock on the southbound side. So of course of folks are slowing down and take a look its causing a lot of attention some a couple of lanes on the south one to one side at poplar also blocked by a multi vehicle crash so theres 2 separate accidents. But the big one of course at 3rd avenue, but it is just adding to this a growing back up so avoid this mess if he can jump over to 2. 80 to 80s in the green speeds are at the limit things are looking really good, especially on the southbound side trying to get over to 92 so take that as your alternate yes chp saying and hoping that theyll have these lanes reopened the next 30 minutes or so but said just try to avoid it at all costs and then jump over to 2. 80. Looking really good here at the bay bridge toll plaza approach 10 minutes out of the macarthur maze trying to get to the pay gates and then across the upper deck in the San Francisco john. Lets see how the weather shaping up on this friday morning and how its going to be for the weekend hey john hey there rebecca what weve got this week and the some warm weather. Some cloudier skies today than what weve seen earlier this week. But dry skies at least for the bay area while areas further south such as central and Southern California. Picking up some muchneeded rainfall today into tomorrow morning, especially as we work our way into the weekend with some wet roadways down south if youre heading that direction do be mindful of those conditions bay area and tahoe though likely not to receive much of anything from the system that passes to our south you see into tomorrow midday right before lunch, some of the most widespread showers stretches from the Central Valley through the southern sierra on into Southern California making for a wet drive in la and san diego if that doesnt vaal if your weekend does involve heading down that direction. Daytime highs today, definitely warmer than we have been san jose up to 74 along with conquered, oakland and fremont 73 for your highs while napa and santa rosa definitely are warmest of spots at 75 degrees esa is way warmer than we should be we work our way into the weekend and next week with dry skies and it does look like february is going to finish off on a dry note.
