Yeah thats the problem is you get that that smoke and its just going to sit in those are especially in around the fire were going to see it sit there. So certainly concern for folks you got that hes out there right now now makes for some beautiful during the sunset you see the orange is out there in the yellows and you got the brown out there as well. You can see from a timber on a different look clear skies and it is going to be one of those really cold nights out there, theyre calling for tomorrow again going to be poor in the north bay in around that fires can mention, im not seeing much in the way of wind and so that smoke is really just going to sit in the north bay but its also not able to mix around the rest the bay area are already starting to see that hazy conditions sold last few days. Temperatures pretty mild youve got 65 in oakland, 65 also in the napa valley 67 degrees in the fremont heres the forecast for the winds and you can see just a bit of a sea breeze kicked him late in the day, but then again we see a week offshore wind developing not a strong one those real strong 50 and 60 mile an hour gust, but going to see week offshore wind and that will make for some cold conditions keep that dry air in place and then we may begin to see things begin to switch lot of part of friday. Right the best thing we can get would be a significant storm in the bay area, heres the longrange forecast model, this the european model showing you that a big dome of High Pressure overhead start to break down just a little bit of weekend but not entirely you can see really the rain bands of the jet stream staying well to the north all the way up into canada. So things begin to change as we head into next week. Return of a sea breeze to more of some fog moving along the coastlines much better air quality as we head in toward next week as well and then latter part of the week that saturday at 10 oclock in the morning. We begin to see something happen we start to see a storm system possibly under cutting this ridge and usually thats a sign that ridge starting weaken somewhat the maybe eventually something punches through maybe late next weekend and then into the following week of course thats still a long way out there in the forecast alright, most going to be in the 20s and the 30s it is going to really be cold and many of place where folks still dont have any power in the north bay 40s inside the bay along the coastline and around the bay youre going to see some very mild temperatures, hazy conditions, 60s 70s in the San Francisco that 67 in pacifica 67 also san bruno on 66 in millbrae sunshine but hazy conditions, mild weather 60s and 70s inside the peninsula. Lot of 70s in the south bay, the east bay, mayb some mid 70s in the warmest spots there about 74 walnut creek 72 in richmond, 73 degrees and in and around the fire not when then youre going to see that smoke continue to bring some very hazy weather in the area there halloween tomorrow should be a nice one. It will be a little bit cool in spots said weve got some changes coming our way as we head toward the weekend just a little breezy on saturday. Another major fire is burning in california this one in Southern California and is getting close to the Ronald Reagan president ial library, its called the easy fire. It erupted early this morning in simi valley, the fastmoving blaze prompted evacuations in that area, including the Reagan Library staff there started working early in the morning to try to secure some of the artifacts and memorabilia there the executive director says the flames reached the edge of the parking lot. But hes hopeful that the asphalt will actually save the building. We want go to the cal fire officials who are updating the public on whats happening with the kim k fire. Lets see what they have to say dont take that live. My name is jonathan cox division chief Information Officer with Cal Fire Incident Management Team 6. Just a few things to start off if you can your telephone if you do have a a ringer on and secondly if you do need to make a phone for a to conversation we ask you take it outside of this area as usual. We will have time for questions and answers at the conclusion of the formal speakers. A additionally we will have a Spanish Language version at the end of the english language version of this press conference. Just to start things off a as everybody is probably well since 24 hours ago we were last year how was made some pretty significant progress on the fire. So winds that we were talking about yesterday. Did not materialize to the extremes that we were fearful of and i give us a big opportunity to be increased containment overnight and again today. In i would say that theres a lot of optimism that we have turned the for the for the better on this fire. And i think that is indicative of the fact that a lot of Evacuation Orders and warnings were lifted this afternoon. Just some numbers really quick the fire is now 76,825 acres. So why were not seeing much growth uh in the perimeter. 45 contained now up another 15 from this morning. In over 4200 fire out on the line that includes a over 300 Fire Agencies from within california as well as Fire Agencies from 12 other states. We can confirm that 266 structures have been destroyed. 10133 of those being residential structures. 47 have been damaged. 32 of those are residential structures. I think its important to know here. Although the count of damage and destroyed structures continues to climb that does not mean that they have been destroyed in the past 24 hours are damage inspection teams are really catching up on the you know weeks worth of work that out there. I would say this was as a result of last night with that ill hand over to our National Weather Service Representative alec soon. So a red flag warning that we had in effect over the last 24 hours it expired this afternoon at 04 00pm. Those winds that we see earlier this morning, the winds have subsided quite a bit but we are remaining in a very dry air mass over the next several days even into next week. So keep that in mind even though this is the end of the wind event we are expecting to those continued dry conditions over several days. And now as far any rainfall we do not see any rainfall in sight. I expect to see very dry conditions at least for the next 7 days. We do have a freeze warning that it is in effect for tonight going into tomorrow morning. Were expecting low temperatures to dip down into that the upper 20s and low 30s especially the valley locations. I expect to see those in those freezing temperatures affecting, especially vulnerable populations that are with that without any access to heat or proper shelter, have those people folks are going to be a month at the highest risk for those freezing temperatures tonight and also those frost and freeze conditions are going to be and theyre going to be affecting sensitive visitation and possibly damaging any exposed. Are unprotected outdoor plumbing so keep that in mind and uh uh thats all after this evening. Thank you. Speaking ekstrom the Sonoma County Sheriffs Office says sheriff a second. Seems like weve been doing this for months, its only been a week. Its been a very exhausting a very scary event for many of us in this county. But weve made it through this together and im very to be part of Sonoma County in the resiliency of our people we stuck together we evacuated together and weve got some good news today. The good news was that we were able to repopulate major areas of the county. We have lifted Evacuation Orders and reduce many areas now to just evacuation stepping down the threat. Im currently we still have 5,788 people under Evacuation Order. Those people primarily live in the burn zones or their their residences were in the burn zone or very near to the burn zone. We anticipate keeping those 5,788 people. Under mandatory evacuation for the foreseeable future until were able to get into those areas damage assessment. A check for utility lines that are down. Trees that are down and inspect for Environmental Health and safety. So with the reduction in order we also still have 64,000 people under an evacuation warning. So those people have been allowed to return to their homes. However, theyre still cautioned if conditions were to significantly change. We may have to place them back underwater. As weve heard tonight, we believe that most of threat is now under review mir and were moving forward or. The Sheriffs Office over the next couple days we will be winding down our mutual aid. So currently we have over 200 peace officers from not from throughout the northern part of the state along with the National Guard, providing security in the evacuation areas, well start to wind that down over the next day or so. We will still have our staff at the Sheriffs Office significant leadup staffed will still be looking more to our local partners over the next few days that would be the local office of the california Highway Patrol. Center is to Police Department and some of her other local Law Enforcement agencies to help bolster ranks, but many of the the First Responders and peace officers who responded from throughout the state will start to go home for the next couple of days. Nothing has changed as far as the arrest for we previously reported that wed made 3 arrests and that remains as is and im already been briefed on that. However unfortunately we had some additional arrest. Last 24 hours where people were entering evacuation zones. And im sorry to report that weve made 10 arrests in the last 24 hours. Those people were contacted they had no apparent business. They were not able to prove any sort of residents in the area and based on each individual case by case. Deputies were able to a probable cause to arrest those people for prowling or a entering an evacuation zone with no apparent business. So next steps were going to continue to repopulate areas were going to have deputies in your neighborhoods as you return, so if you have questions or concerns pleasflight down one of our deputies or local peace officers who are helping out they will assist you in any way they can. There are hazards out there as weve talked about before. So as you return to neighborhoods be careful. Look for downed trees look for downed utility lines and use caution. Thank you so much to so the county for your patience and support. Oh i think we made the right decision to evacuate. I understand how tough its been on people being evacuation shelters and being away from home. But we are. Were making progress here and were getting you back home. The resilience as i mentioned the resilience of soon the county is amazing. Exemplifies who we are and the county. What weve learned over the last few years about the hazards that are and this area this this great area that we live and it really shows the spirit and strength of every once in the county. So thank you for your patience and hope with a hope hope we dont have to talk about this too much longer have this in the rearview mirror. Thank you. Next from the california Highway Patrol captain wolf. Good evening and captain or for the california that role in your local chp commander. Patrol continues to support the sheriff in their mission. Keeping folks out of evacuation zones and burn zones. We are bringing staffing from out of art of our of our area our local area from all over the bay area. But we have reduced back from statewide support. Have experienced traffic conditions increasing im sure you if youre on your way back to the homes may have experienced some of that. Around 03 00pm they started cking up and they are picking up in locations that are not typical of normal commute patterns but were no strangers to traffic here in the bay area. Certainly not im not the so that early retirement we planned. Its going ok . Great. Now im spending more time with the kids. Im introducing them to crab. Crab . They love it. So, you mentioned that that money we set aside. Yeah. The kids and i want to build our own crab shack. Ahhh, youre finally building that outdoor kitchen. Yup with room for the whole gang. Quality were seeing the air quality is improving which we are we love living here being outside. But keep in mind that those conditions can change depending on. The wind and the fact that we still have an active fire that is that we have to consider so if you sense smoky smell smoke and you know you have Underlying Health conditions that might put you at risk for other complications. Please stay inside as much as possible if you have any concerns and we will continue to update. The advisories based on air called the changes that will occur in the next few days. Thank you stay safe. You know last formal speak with closing comments from the cinema board supervisors chair of the board supervisor rabbit. Once again the residents of Sonoma County continue to be incredibly grateful to our firefighters to the Law Enforcement personnel the support staff and all of our federal state and local partners. We are also grateful toward neighboring counties and the hundreds of volunteers who without hesitation stepped in to help their neighbors. Thank you. Of course to the residents of Sonoma County. For your continued empathy and patience. Were fortunate that most of our 190 or so 1000 evacuated residents were allowed to return today. And those obviously live closer to the fire areas as the sheriff mentioned continue to remain under mandatory evacuation. And we know that you 2 are eager to get home and we again ask for your patience. As firefighters continue squelch this fire. All restoration is under uay and will continue through the evening. The fire may of course affect some restoration areas in some areas. Shelters remain open for those under evacuation and not yet home. As was mentioned cold weather warning remains in effect. And it is a great pleasure to announce the more mundane things a sign of getting back to normal but Curbside Trash Service will resume on a regular schedule schedule. There is now 45 containment on this fire just a number that we wanted to hear as things continue to improve we had a lot of great phrases coming out of that News Conference. Officials saying significant progress turning a corner. The most of the threat isnt a rear view mirror. They did say the fires of course is still burning is now up to 76,825 acres. Nonetheless though things are starting to improve. But there are still problems ahead there are still 5,788 people who are under a mandatory Evacuation Order and cannot return home and in fact, Authorities Say that will be in effect for the foreseeable future, 64,000 people in the fire area are under an evacuation warning, which means they could be forced to leave again if conditions change there are a number of officers from different to 200 different officers there. Plus the National Guard and other agencies helping with Law Enforcement 10 people were arrested for trying to basically sneak into evacuation areas.
