By the way, the reductions in personal income tax rates are temporary. Set to expire in 2026. Which is the case with most of the individual tax cuts in the bill. Now to the the standard deduction. Thats the amount of money that reduces the amount of income on which were taxed. These two numbers are double what they used to be. So people will be taxed less. About 70 percent of americans use the standard deduction. The new plan doubles the perchild tax credit to two thousand dollars for families making up to 400,000 a year. And lots more people will be eligible for this. Right now. Its for families making just over 100 thousand. And theres the Home Mortgage interest deduction. The new plan limits the deduction. To interest paid on the first 750,000 of a new loan for a first or second home. The current limit is 1 million. This figures to have a negative impact for bay area folks. Many of whom buy homes that cost more than 750 thousand dollars. The changes would not affect 2017 taxes. And according to the nonpartisan joint committee on taxation.
