Crime scene investigators spent much of wednesday on diamond street in San Franciscos Castro District searching for clues into a shooting that occurred just after midnight that critically injured a 9 year veteran of the force. Natsofficer down officer hitsotthey were flagged down by a citizen regarding a suspicious Vehicle Police say when officers approached the grey chrysler sedan to investigate, there was an exchange of gunfire and both the suspect and the 41 year old officer were wounded. Including removing lead bearing pipes, plumbing and installing and maintain filters to remove lead this group of activisits, parents, doctors and a School Board Member addressed the recent test results revealing 7 schools in the district showed higher levels then allowed by federal standards. Dr. Noemi spinazzi. Lead goes into the brain, it can cause seizures. There are 86 schools in oakland unified this recent test involved 50 schools. This past august high lead levels were discovered at Mcclymonds High School in the shower, and facets for drinking. The district says the water itself is not badbut in each case its a problem with certain taps or piping. And plus, since the lake is at 700 feet, they have no problems with it filling up right now. With the water level more than 200 feet from the top of the dam. Creating about 2. 2 million acre feet of space, crews can continue their work through the rainy season. Were going to be working on the emergency spillway all winter as weather permits. The goal here construct a cutoff wall to prevent erosion on the emergecy spillway if it ever needs to be used again. This work is halfway done. Then, its on to phase two, which is focused on 730 feet of spillway at the very top. And final design on the chutes middle portion. Up at the top, were going to demolish that part of the spillway and reconstruct it fully, and in the middle of the spillway, right now, thats roller compacted concrete. Next year, were going to put a layer of structural concrete on top of that. While other spillways can take years to construct, this one is being done in a fraction of the time. Kiewits project director is confident in the spillways stability. As his crews work at such a rapid rate. Lots of double checks, lots of eyes on it, make sure its done right. Youre spending that much money, you want to make sure you do it right the first time. And so, were it, we like it, every confident. So are many in oroville. As winter nears its return. Richmond District Supervisor sandra lee fewer says its not the only violence to take place at this store. This past august high lead levels were discovered at mclymonds high school. It was found in the showers and drinking faucets. Seven other schools in oakland have tested positive for higher levels of lead than federal regulations allow. The School District says the situation is under control. Prosecutors played a portion of the interrogation of Jose Garcia Zarate for jurors yesterday. It was recorded several hours after steinle was shot on july first in 2015. Garcia zarate was arrested an hour after the shooting. And charged with murder. He had been deported five times and was wanted by federal immigration officials for a sixth when steinle was shot.
