Figures show nearly 450 thousand people around the world have died because of the outbreak. Thats not the whole story. A b b c investigation has looked to to any seven Different Countries and we found the total number of deaths caused by the virus, both directly and indirectly, is much higher. This report starts in indonesia. Reporter a father buries his youngest son. A mother, distraught. Threeyearold rough did not have coronavirus but his parents say he died because of it. He had leukemia. When his condition got worse, his parents raced to hospital. It was around midnight. The spital said he would needed to be tested for covid19 before he could be admitted anywhere. Another hospital told us there was not a childrens doctor on duty, and a quick covid test they had were only being used for pregnant women. Reporter his parents drove him to three more hospitals that night. With no success. The next day, they eventually found a hospital that would accept him, but he died before doctors could see him. I still believe that if my son was given treatment, he would still be alive. But he was turned away and tossed froone hospital to another. I could do nothing. Reporter rafa is one of tens of thousands of people whose deaths are not counted as being caused by coronavirus, but are still victim of this pandemic. Since the outbreak of the virus, lots of countries are recording more deaths than usual. You can see a bump in the graph here. These are called excess deaths. Many of these have officially been linked to coronavirus. As you can see here in red. But that still leaves a huge number of lives lost which are not accounted for in the covid statistics. The Italian Region saw more than double the number of deaths than expected. One of them was lucas mother. She had pancreatic cancer. When she tested positive for covid19, her chemotherapy was stopped immediately. But when she got better, her treatment was never resumed. [speaking foreign language] yes, i believe so. The doctor said everything was under control. Laura her heart suddenly stopped beating. My sister tried to beat her chest but it didnt work. At the hospital, she would have been revived. She did not die from the disease, but she died because of the disease. And so many other people are dying in brazil and in the world, that they are not counting. Its scary. Its scary. Reporter few countries have been spared this virus. A global wave that has overwhelmed Health Care Systems and plunged so many families into grief. Many more families than we thought. And it is not over yet. Laura lets go back now to maria, a dreamer who was part of the Supreme Court lawsuit. Thank you so much for joining us again. How did you respond when you heard the Supreme Court ruling that you a hundreds of thousands of others cant be deported . Maria thank you again for having me. I was in disbelief this morning when i saw the news. Immediately informed my family. Several siblings are also daca recipients. I wanted them to know what was happening. I think i was in shock, because i had prepared myself for the worst just in case. And i was pleasantly surprised. Definitely, there was a shock there. Laura what has it been like for you these past three years living with this uncertainty since President Trump tried to end daca . Maria it definitely has been a difficult three years. I cant believe it has been three years. Because everything, ever since that decision of daca changed so drastically, there was moments of a lot of uncertainty, of a lot of stress. Every time we had a hearing or it wentto the Supreme Court, there was always that fear of what was next. So im happy that we got an answer and it was more so, a positive one. Laura but the Supreme Court ruling today does leave the door open for the white house to try once again to end daca. What do you make of that . Maria i think basically the Supreme Court is putting it back on the Trump Administrations court to take on the political hit of taking daca again. Im hopeful that there is a lot of political pressure, that the administration will not go against a lot of that pressure. Either way, we have always been fighting for our permanent solution. A legislative fix. That includes 11 million of us, our families, our siblings, folks who are not t typical dreamer. Regardless of what the Trump Administration intends to do, we are here and prepared to fight. Laura what are your hopes for your own future, maria . Maria for my own future, im planning to go to law school, now that it has been reinstated with daca being reinstated, that im able to travel and work from Mexico City Office for my current job, and do some work from abroad as well. Laura maria, thank you so much for being with us today. Maria thank you. Laura President Trump is not fit for office. So says his former National Security advisor john bolton. Mr. Bolton has written a tellall book in which he claims the president cares more about the reelection then the national interest. Trump is calling him a wacko and sick puppy. Nick bryant has more. Reporter he was Donald TrumpsNational Security advisor, a staunch conservative, is Foreign Policy righthand man. But john bolton is now publishing a tellall memoir that reads like an indictment of the president. Among the damming allegations is that donald trump pleaded with his chinese counterpart xi jinping at the g20 summit in japan to help him achieve victory in this years president ial election. It is being reported he said make sure i win. In the midst of a trade dispute that was hammering american farmers, he wanted the chinese to buy Agricultural Products from rural states, vital for his reelection. The book claims they were embarrassing gaps in Donald TrumpsForeign Policy knowledge, and that a meeting with theresa may in 2018, he expressed surprise that britain was a nuclear power. Another allegation is donald trump offered to stop a criminal investigation into a Turkish Company as a personal favor to president erdogan, and was easily flattered by other authoritarian leaders such as Vladimir Putin. I think Vladimir Putin thinks he can play him like a fiddle. I think putin is smart, tough. I think he sees that he is not faced with a serious adversary here. I dont think hes worried about donald trump. Pres. Trump john is a he has strong views on things but thats ok. Reporter this was donald trump speaking warmly about john bolton before he left the white house. Today, the president called him a wacko whose book is full of lies and fake stories. He was a disgruntled, boring fool who only wanted to go to war and never had a clue. What a dope. Why do you keep hiring people that you think are wackos and liars . Reporter donald trump remains stony face as journalists asked him to address these bolton bombshells. The white house is making a last ditch effort to block the books publication on National Security grounds. And also, trashing its author. Hes doing it for the money, thats clear. My view is it is the washington swamps equivalent of revenge. Reporter these are the sort of allegations that would ordinarily imperil a presidency. On fuel demand for impeachment. Donald trump has already been impeached, but his republican allies did not vote to remove him from office men and will not do so now. Never before have we seen a u. S. President walk away from so Many Political car crashes. But he faces reelection in november. And ultimately, the American Voters will decide his fate. Nick bryant, bbc news, new york.
