By some notes written during jury selection are raising concerns about prosecutors. Its time now for a look at this mornings top stories, propel ist indian protesters are making their stand at uc berkeley as they vowed to stay put until the university meets their demands. To divest from companies with ties to israel and to cut its Study Abroad Program there. Theyre just some of the hundreds of protesters from yesterdays rally that you see here at the steps of the campus of sprawls plaza. Dozens of tents set up now this is all part of the gaza solidarity and camp mint movement, which has swept College Campuses across the nation. Nicolepresident biden spoke on the unrest condemning the protest nationwide. Calling it blatantly anti semitic and dangerous. Yeah. Cal poly humble also seeing protesters gathering for a late night protest. Campus, police says it caused a shutdown through tomorrow, they said they received reports of dozens of protesters. Occupying seamans hall right before 5 00 pm pm within the hour, the number ballooned to hundreds local news outlets are reporting that the front entrance seems to have been barricaded by furniture. On the east coast. Police arrested a few dozen protesters. At a rally in front of ny yesterday. This after hundreds of demonstrators defied university warnings that they would face consequences. If they failed to vacate the premises. All of these protests come after last weeks demonstration at columbia. University. Which led to a large number of arrests. The University Says that classes have been moved online due to safety concerns for jewish students. And here to help us understand more about what is going on is professor nolan higdon in with the department of communication at cal state east bay. Welcome, professor nolan. Thank you so much for taking the time to join us today, so we see a lot of passionate young people. Protesting on campuses from coast to coast. How do College Administrators typically respond to these student led protests . Liveyeah. Thank you very much for having me. I think College Administrators are in a very difficult position a lot of their rhetoric. You know, on campus champions. Things like free speech freedom of expression. Diversity of viewpoints. But theyre starting to see a big division. Between their students and even some of their faculty and so administrators. I think are wrestling with keeping their their rhetoric and their actions consistent. Nicoleyeah. Now we saw it at columbia university. They push classes on online in order to mitigate any dangers to these students. If these protests grow, though, how is this going to impact the school . Year . Liveit means to be seen. You know, we did get some interviews from new york police officers. Yesterday who were at columbia. Who so that they didnt see any signs of violence. At the protests, so it remains to be seen. If these things are actually going to erupt into violence on campus theres certainly been been evidence that students feel uncomfortable. On campus and i think that speaks to some of the reports weve seen. I know the pl has demonstrated a rising in anti semitism and the u. N has demonstrated. Rise in islamophobia. So i think there is a general sense of of hate that defines this conflict. Obviously, and that hate is also come here on College Campuses as nicolewell. How would you say these protests compared to the recent ones that weve seen on the bridges here in the bay area that have just snarled up traffic . Livewell, you know if history is any indication, uh, protests against war and conflict they will continue to grow as long as the war goes on, and so if this work continues, i could see those bridge. Protests being, you know, a very small demonstration, as compared to to what is to come. It seems like young people are refusing to to budge on there. Yeah. That theyre opposed to what is being done in gaza just like many us officials refused to budge on their position. And so were not seeing a lot of compromise or signs that things are going to change anytime nicolesoon. All right, professor nolan higdon. Thank you again so much for your time on this tuesday. Now for a look across the bay this morning and we say happy tuesday to all of you. Counterclockwise spin. Also manages to squeeze out a few light showers, particularly tomorrow morning along the coast. Thats what i like to call marine layer missed. Its not not quite rain. The totals are going to be really low. But tomorrow morning anywhere near the coast on the hills, and that could even be inland east bay hills or north bay hills. It certainly santa cruz mountains. Roads will be a bit slick because the missed will just kind of add up and the windshield wipers might even be needed at a time, but its never really going to be super intense in terms of rainfall. And theres another system coming later towards the end of the week and that 1 is going to try and deliver. A slightly different kind of rain. Little more than marine layer missed perhaps, but probably not much. Were going to talk about that coming up in the complete forecast. In just a few minutes. Nicoleright . Thank you, darren.
