It is on the front page of kpix. Com. Highway 780 between columbus parkway and southampton road is back open after a shoot out between suspects and police officers. Police picked up an automated license hit and made a traffic stop on the vehicle. Thats when the suspects fired shots and officers fired back. Two suspects are in custody. No injuries were record. After taking the suspects into custody, officers shut down the freeway to search for a possible third suspect but since confirmed there were only two suspects. Both directions of 780 are open for travel, the on and off ramps are closed. A judge appointed a special master to oversee the scandal plagued federal womens prison in dublin. This is the first time it has been placed under that kind of oversight. The fbi raided the prison on monday. The warden was ousted the same day after allegations that his staff retaliated against an inmate that testified against the prison. This is part of an ongoing multiyear probe into allegations of sexual abuse of inmates that led to the prosecution of a former warden and several officers. The defense wanted to move the trial out of San Francisco. On friday a judge denied the request. The attorneys are trying to get access to lees cell phone records. Bob lee was found stabbed to death last april. A trial date has been set for may 20th. The november mayoral race in San Francisco is shaping up to be a highly competitive race. Reporter its a 300mile journey that traces the winter run chinook salmon from the Mccloud River to the pacific ocean. The annual pilgrimage is led by a tribe and the chief. The drive never waved from a core belief. Whatever happens to the salmon happens to the people. Reporter Climate Change plays a role. In the last decade they have been hit by the onetwo punch of Climate Change. Disruntive heat waves and dryness through drought. Reporter he heads up the fish and wildlife department. He said the summer of 2021 was a grim one for the salmon. We were in the peak of the most recent severe drought. These fish are trapped on the valley floors. The valley floors are hotter. Water that is too hot is lethal for salmon. Reporter californias fish and wildlife awarded 50 million in grants for 15 projects. One involves the tribes attempts to restore wild salmon to the river. Its the right thing to do and help us figure out how to save salmon in california. They are in a dire position now and may go extinct if this project that we are involved with isnt successful. Reporter the problem first began with the shasta dam. The dam provides flood control, hydroelectric power it is a weapon of mass destruction to me. Reporter built during world war ii, shasta dam flooded the trip off the ancestral land and blocked the salmon from returning to spawn. In 1994 the fish were federally listed as endangered. The tribe held protests. Then the chief got an email. Do you want your salmon back . We have them. Reporter it was from people from new zealand. In the 19th century, millions of salmon eggs from the Mccloud River were exported to 30 states and 14 Different Countries to create new salmon runs. The only one that thrived is the one in new zealand. Tribal members traveled to see the fish and became determined to bring some back home to mccloud. We want to welcome them home. What better way to try to heal past injuries and show the world its possible to do things together and make it better. Reporter in a historic agreement, the tribe is working with fish and wildlife and noah fisheries to support a return effort to the mccloud. They believe the wild salmon eggs will fair better than those near the dam. If the salmon survive, people can survive. If we can get a passage from the Sacramento River past the dam so that the fish can swim in and out on their own, then we have wild fish again. Reporter the hope to get them home safely as soon as possible. The tribe will use the grant money to get a new passage for the salmon to return to the Mccloud River and bypassing shasta dam. There are a lot of different time lines to follow here. Reporter there are. In the new york case it was supposed to begin in just over a week. Former President Trumps attorney asked for a longer delay. The judge gave him 30 days. They are seen at partial victories for the Trump Legal Team as he continues to face serious charges. Hours after a judges ruling in former President Trumps Georgia Election interference case, nathan wade tendered his resignation. The judges ruling ordered fani willis to step aside or order wade to quit the case because they were involved romantically and it created an appearance of impropriety. He had to. No way it would be the elected District Attorney of Fulton County fani willis that steps down. Reporter on social media, former President Trump celebrated the decision calling wade a disgrace. In a letter to willis, wade wrote he was resigning in the interest of democracy and move this case forward as quickly as possible. An attorney that represented Kenneth Chesebro said the legal wrangling set back the start of a potential trial. The case goes from almost impossible going to trial before november to actually impossible to going to trial before november. Reporter in new york city, another judge handed down a partial victory for former president donald Trump Legal Team ordering a 30day delay in another criminal trial. He faces felony charges for falsification of Business Records related to payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trumps attorneys asked for a 90day delay claiming that recently began receiving 100,000 pages of documents in pretrial discovery. The new york trial could begin april 15th but could face further delays. The judge will have a hearing on the dispute on march 25th and a formal trial date would be set sometime after that, max. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them. Another problem with the boeing 737 has been reported. This time on a post Flight Inspection on a plane flying from San Francisco to oregon. A United Airlines flight landed in medford. On closer look it was missing a panel on the plane. They checked the runway and airfield for debris. None was found. The airline is conducting an examination to understand what might have happened and plans to do repairs before returning the plane to service. The specific plane has been in service more than 25 years. Last week the united flight lost a wheel as it took off from sfo to japan damaging a couple of cars in an employee parking lot.
