An active shooter. Multiple injuries. Breaking news, a massive search under way for a man considered armed and dangerous. Wanted for a shooting rampage that left a trail of blood and death. Good morning, and good to be with you. Im annemarie green. This is the 565th mass shooting in the u. S. This year. Thats according to the gun violence archive. The carnage indescribable. Hours after the rampage the shooter still on the loose and maines second largest city on lockdown. Heres the latest. At least 20 people are dead, dozens more wounded, and the extent of their injuries unknown. Police have identified robert card as a person of interest. Hes a trained firearms instructor with a history of Mental Health issues. The shooting happened in lewiston, 35 miles north of portland. The gunman targeted two locations. A bar and a Bowling Alley about four miles apart. The car was later found in lisbon about eight miles away. Cbs bostons Laura Haefeli joins us now from maine with breaking developments. Good morning. Reporter following multiple shootings in lewiston, maine, police all over the state are searching for this man 40yearold robert card, who has been described as a person of interest. Card is considered armed and dangerous. If people see him, they should not approach card or make contact with him in any way. Reporter Authorities Say anyone who sees card or has any information about the shootings should call 911 immediately. Police were seen searching a parking garage after a vehicle of interest was found minutes away in lisbon, maine. Active shooter. We have multiple injuries. Reporter local Authorities Say the shooting began just before 7 00 p. M. At two locations, a restaurant and a Bowling Alley. Central Maine Medical Center said on its website that staff were reacting to a mass casualty, mass shooter event, and were coordinating with area hospitals to take in patients. This is an overwhelming situation. I dont think weve ever had anything like this. Reporter according to a maine Law Enforcement bulletin seen by cbs news, card is a trained firearms instructor believed to be in the army reserve, and he has reported Mental Health issues. A Reunification Center has been set up in auburn. A significant amount of shock going on with people that were actually witnesses. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the country last night the military is busy preparing but wouldnt elaborate. Yeah, while were still waiting for that ground invasion, israel has been conducting ground raids into gaza overnight. Troops and tanks were said to have struck several militant targets, an order as israel says to prepare the battlefield ahead of that expected invasion. Meanwhile, warplanes continuously pummel the territory to weaken hamas as israel says its targeting supplies, troops, and command and control. Yesterday Benjamin Netanyahu said every hamas member is a dead man walking and the country is raining hellfire down on the militants. Innocent people are also being killed. According to the hamas controlled ministry of health in gaza, more than 6,500 people have been killed including over 2,000 children, although we cant independently verify those numbers. But the situation in gaza does continue to grow worse. The palestinians there are running out of food and clean drinking water. The u. N. Says it will be forced to stop operations in the coming hours as it is running out of fuel. But israel says it is not going to allow any fuel into gaza because it says hamas will steal it and use it in their rockets and military operations. But that fuel is crucial as its used to run pumps and a desalinization plant as well as keep hospitals running.
