A scathing new report reveals the lengthy process to build more housing in the city. Our own anne makovec joins us with more on the firstofitskind review. Reporter the report is calling out San Francisco for making things very difficult for people trying to create more housing. So far this year San Francisco has permitted less than one home per day. According to this view, it takes longer and costs more to build housing in San Francisco than any other city in the state. At least 18 city policies and practices are out of compliance with state law. The result, many of the people who work in the city, they cant afford to live there like teachers, police officers, firefighters. And the report found it takes 523 days for a developer to get a Housing Project approved. Compared to 385 for the next slowest jurisdiction in the state. And after the approval process, it is even worse. Take San Francisco an average of 605 days to issue the building permit. It takes 8 days for the next slowest jurisdiction. State senator scott wiener has been a huge housing proponent releasing this statement saying this audit puts cities across california on notice. There will be no more leniency for illegally obstructing housing construction. San francisco has added layer upon layer of unnecessary discretion and bureaucracy for decades. Reporter johnsons record shows he voted against certifying the 2020 president ial election. Voted against legalizing samesex marriage. In may, he voted against the ukraine aid package. Johnsons vote against the ukraine aid could be put to the test almost immediately as President Biden is asking congress for more than 100 billion to fund the war on ukraine, provide military aid to both israel and taiwan and strengthen the u. S. Southern border. There is divided support on the republican conference, then i dont think we ought to bring the ukraine bill that doesnt have the majority republican support. Reporter Congress Also has about three weeks to pass a new spending bill to keep the government open. Several house conservatives are opposed to any shortterm deal unless it includes deep spending cuts. We are honored to have seen speaker johnson put out his plan for government funding and the words continuing resolution are not a part of that plan. Reporter as speaker, johnson will have a large say over how the spending bills get passed. No bill can come to the floor without the new speakers approval. Easy for me to say. Theres the cold front that you can see it neatly outlined with the clouds sweeping across the entire bay area. Throughout the rest of tonight, the clouds will push further and further south and clear up before the sun will come up tomorrow morning. Full sunshine throughout the day tomorrow. And it should be a real nice day even though temperatures wont be on the cool side. The clouds will start to return tomorrow night and the mix of clouds and sunshine on friday. Temperatures around the bay, also going to see some ups and downs as we head through the next several days. Down a little bit on friday, then back up to whats normal for this time of the year, the last half of the last weekend in october and for the last few days of october itself.
