Its quite the opposite. We had a cold front sweep through and daytime highs high are going to reflect it is today. From yesterday into today were going to see about a ten degree jump in the negative direction this afternoon for the diamonds but always waking up in the 50s and very similar to yesterday. Mostly clear skies over the santa clara valley. Unlike yesterday. And as we wake up were sitting in the 50s and anywhere from los gatos into redwood city. Nice and chilly for us this morning at in San Francisco at 54degree. Clear conditions for the most part. No issues at the surface level with visibility but we will keep a close eye on that. The big weather story for us because despite the fact we have clear skies over the Salesforce Tower we have clouds rolling in this afternoon and as i time this out for us, we actually have a light chance of showers up in the north bay. So if you live near santa rosa, maybe even into petaluma, look at the system right here. This is into the afternoon hours just around 3 00. This cold front sweeps its way through. Were left with cool cloudy skies and a light splash of showers up in the north bay. Really dissipating as we head into the afternoon hours. Really the last little bit of moisture from this cold front is isolating itself off into the sierraattahoe area. Inch of snow up there. Back here in the bay look how it dissipates in the 8 00 hour. Were left with Clear Conditions as we head into our thursday forecast. So more on that in a bit and the cool chilly temperatures because theres another system moving in this weekend. Coming up. Southbound 880, near 29th. We are getting word of a crash just north of here where the live shot is but again were not seeing a lot of brake lights but ill watch that in case it gets worse. Reed . All right, thank you so much. The ripple effects of war in the middle east found their way to the bay. A flash point at the Richmond City council as our Community Grapples with these issues affecting jews and palestinians. Overnight, leaders in richmond passed a resolution expressing support for palestinians in gaza and heres some of what the language asserted going into the meeting. Ethnic cleansing and collective punishment by the state of israel. And a stand of solidarity with the Palestinian People of gaza. Community members spoke for hours. The language of the resolution sparked calls from jewish leaders for people to show up in opposition, calling this language onesided. In the end though, only one councilmember agreed with that position. Caesar zapetta says he supports a free palestine but says the resolution should be revised on bringing both the palestinian and israeli communities together. His was the only vote of no to that resolution. And you know, this all plays out while israeli officials stand ready for a Ground Invasion of gaza despite some World Leaders calling for a cease fire. The meanwhile, at a United NationsSecurity Council meeting secretary of state Antony Blinken repeated warnings to allies of hamas to not get involved or they will face retaliation. Citing safety concerns. Like cars blocking first responders. The state says cruise wasnt up front with them about a recent crash involving one of the cars. The taxis returned to headquarters after the dmv pulled the plug on the permits and cruise had cut its San Francisco fleet of cars in half. Thats 50 vehicles during the day and 150 vehicles during the evening hours. The dmv is now looking into this october 2nd crash that left a pedestrian severely injured. As our Jocelyn Moran reports some people who have to come to rely on these robo taxis are worried about what happens next. Honestly im really sad. [ laughter ] because like i kind of like you know, that was our thing. Like were going to do cruise tonight. Like am i going to be followed after or, you know, someone going to call me after . Or any kind of like information that possible driver could have. Reporter she said the rates are a bit higher than uber or lyft but she doesnt mind it because she doesnt have to tip. And she said an operator usually checks in on her while shes in the car. On tuesday, the dmv said the companys cars present an unreasonable risk to Public Safety and that cruise misrepresented safety information. A person driving a regular car hit a woman walking. Sending her into the path of the robo taxi. Cruise in a statement said in part quote the av braked aggressively before impact and because it detected a collision, it attempted to pull over to avoid further safety issues. When the av tried to pull over, it continued before coming to a final stop, pulling the pedestrian forward. The dmv and its order of suspension says the av traveled approximately 20 feet and reached a speed of 7 miles an hour before coming to a subsequent and final stop. The pedestrian remained under the car. They say representatives with the dmv met with chp and cruise representatives adding that quote, footage of the subsequent movement of the av to perform a pullover maneuver was not shown to the department and cruise did not disclose that any Additional Movement of the vehicle had occurred after the initial stop of the vehicle. The department requested cruise provide the additional footage which they received october 13th. We asked her if she ever experienced a time where she felt unsafe while riding in a cruise car without a driver. Honestly. No time i feel like oh my gosh im going to crash into someone. No. Not at all. There was maybe one time that it just stopped really hard. But we were wearing seat belts and immediately the operator called in. So i was like okay. This is cool. This is great. Cruise is still allowed to test its robo taxis as long as theres a driver inside. Waymo still has the green light to operate its Driverless Cars in San Francisco and los angeles. Time is 5 09. By his own admission pilot Joseph Emerson says he was high on psychedelic mushrooms and hadnt slept for 24 hours before flying. For the first time take us inside the cockpit of the Alaska Airlines flight sunday before the pilot had to be restrained. For in clothes marked jail and behind panes of glass, 44yearold Pleasant Hill pilot Joseph Emerson appeared in court today in oregon. Facing 83 counts of attempted murder. About 48 hours earlier, investigators say he was trying to shut down the engines of alaska flight 2059 while he was offduty and riding in the cockpit jump seat. Weve got the guy out of the cockpit. Reporter the picture painted in Court Documents is shocking. Emerson told police he was having a nervous breakdown and hadnt slept in 40 hours and was battling depression and had taken mushrooms two days earlier. About half hour into the flight the pilots told investigators emerson threw off his headset and pulled red fire handles like these that can cut off fuel to the engines. One of the pilots said he wrestled emerson away from the controls and told him to get out of the cockpit. Police say emerson told them he did it because i thought i was dreaming. And i just want to wake up. Fear went through our body. Reporter paul stephen was one of the 84 pathiers on board. I have flown a lot in my life and i have been scared once before and yesterday was the second time. Reporter in the back of the plane Court Documents say emerson asked to be handcuffed but then tried to open an emergency exit door. Some aviation experts credit the crew for acting quickly. The crew that was operating this flight did an excellent job being able to actually challenge him. Get him away from the controls. And and subdue him and be able to get him into the back of the aircraft. Emerson pled not guilty to all charges but he will stay behind bars for now. Alaska Airlines Says he show nod signs of visible impairment before the sunday flight and also passed all the medical tests during his 20 year career as a pilot that includes regular Mental Health screenings. Cal fire is Getting National recognition for its Artificial Intelligence fire detection program. Time magazine selected the advanced tool as one of the best inventions of 2023. The ai program was created for early fire detection and Rapid Response before a fire grows. All thanks to the over 1,000 strategically placed cameras that can detect smoke columns. These cameras take photos, panoramic photos every one to two minutes and another two minutes take another photo. And then this system shoots to recognize differences between those two photos. When the system does recognize one of those differences, it will then alert somebody within an Operation Center to take a closer look. In many cases, this program can detect smoke up to an hour earlier. Helping in the fire fight. So fascinating. I have a friend that works for cal fire and they were tell megaabout this a couple of years ago so im glad its receiving National Recognition and that jessica, its actually working. Absolutely. I mean, any Technological Advancement especially when it comes to our state, that is huge. So thats a really, really good update. Now lets take a quick look at whats going on throughout the bay area as were waking up this morning. Heading out the door. Were still sitting mostly in the low 50s from concord down into livermore unlike yesterday, though, were seeing a lot more clear skies this morning. A cold front is moving its way in. Lets dive up a little bit more north now in areas like redwood city and San Francisco. Still sitting in the low chilly 50s so grab the jacket and the layers before you head outside. Of course were feeling more winterlike weather actually as we head into this afternoon. As this cold front settles its way in from the north. What it is, is its just low pressure moving its way in from the gull of alaska. Now usually these systems will have a lot more moisture to them. Usually these cold fronts will give us a little bit of rain and dont get me wrong it does. Just doesnt land on us nearly as much as other pockets. This is the system dipping its way down into washington, all the way into california, oregon, everywhere along the west coast. But once we head into friday, we see system number two do a very similar pattern. Just bringing in cold, dense air. Not a lot of moisture once again. So what we see any rain . Watch what happens right around the corner, this is just by 9 00 a. M. High clouds from offshore and we start seeing that band of rain really kind of tease the north bay. What ends up happening is just after 2 00 that continues to swoop its way down to the south. If anything, if you live near santa rosa o bodega bay, theres a good chance you could have a light sprinkle of showers this afternoon. That system really moves into the east though in areas like the sierraattahoe and the Sacramento Valley and then that continues to sweep its way to the south. Were just left with partly cloudy skies into the evening hours tonight and it clears up pretty fast as we head into our forecast tomorrow though. So wind gusts associated with that, we can see anywhere up to around 25, 30mileperhour winds at times heading into this afternoon. Its relatively light but those winds are moving in from the north to the south. Gustier conditions expected especially along the coast and just the mouth of the bay. So lets look at whats going on for us today. Daytime highs today a lot cooler than yesterday. You will notice it a lot more in the inland areas though. For example, santa rosa yesterday, we were in the upper 70s. Today . Upper 60s. And well notice that trend also heading into the east bay. San francisco, pretty much the very similar forecast to yesterday. 60s all throughout our peninsula. But once we head into the east bay, i mean we were talking about upper 70s yesterday near livermore. And up in concord. All the way over into antioch and today look at this. Nice and chilly for us heading into this afternoon. So definitely have the layers for you as we head into this afternoon. And for all the kiddos ming to school, a very similar setup. Make sure they have the jackets ready to go and daytime highs today a lot chillier and we kind of average out in the upper 60s, lower 70s through the rest of the week heading into this weekend. Now we will see a lot more sunnier skies once we head into the weekend forecast. So it will feel a little bit more mid, late novemberlike than what were actually dealing with right now for our averages. But 65 today, 68 tomorrow. Sangers skies and this is looking nice and falllike. Gianna . I love this time of year, jess, i love the cooler temperatures. All right, taking a look at the roadways right now. Getting ready to get out the door, through oakland, good morning to the east bay commuters. A live look at the nimitz and its moving along okay. This is near the coliseum not too far from hegenberger and if you are taking that area northbound, its actually looking pretty good. Now when you get past this point, i want to show you a little hotspot on the knapps right now and you know overall were actually doing okay for the most part but im going to zoom in here on 8808 and they just cleared a crash southbound 880 at 29th avenue. We were tracking a few brake lights there. So i guess its no longer a hotspot. Thats how quickly traffic can change. So much better news there for that drive along 880 both directions. Now where we are seeing brake lights is for supercommuters coming into the Altamont Pass this morning. Right now travel times at about 31 minutes and maybe even a little slower now. Well get that updated but traffic is certainly getting a little bit busy for anyone going westbound 205 getting on to 580. No metering lights at the bay bridge toll plaza. This part of the commute looks great so far heading into San Francisco and in fact most routes heading into the city are pretty quiet right now. Well, back to the bay. The announcement from the giants coming in just hours ago to bring back a familiar face. Plus, paying more for sweets . The prices that might jump out when getting your halloween candy. Ian, some World Leaders are calling for a cease fire but u. S. Officials are Holding Strong and they say a cease fire only benefits hamas. Theyre also saying that while telling iran stay out of this. Reporter yeah, good morning reed. You know, there is a big effort to get aid into gaza whether thats a cease fire or a temporary pause. And just to give you an idea, eight trucks made it in yesterday. But thats a far cry of what the. N. Says is needed especially since no fuel has been allowed to enter israel says thats because hamas uses it for their rockets. But not having fuel has forced six hospitals to close according to the World Health Organization because they cant power their generators. This morning, Israeli Defense officials said they conducted retaliatory strikes in the west bank and against Syrian Military assets. We do not want this war to widen. Reporter at a United NationsSecurity Council meeting yesterday, secretary of state Antony Blinken repeated warnings to outside actors, particularly iran backed militant groups, not to get involved. If iran or its proxies attack u. S. Personnel anywhere, make no mistake. We will defend our people. Reporter israel increased its air strikes on gaza amid growing calls for a cease fire. It is vital to be clear on principles. Starting with the fundamental principle of respecting and protecting civilians. Reporter but the white house says a cease fire right now would only benefit hamas. This is war. It is ugly. And its going to be messy. And innocent civilians are going to be hurt. Reporter yesterday, more trucks filled with food, water and medicine flowed into gaza from egypt but aid workers say fuel is whats most vital to keep Water Systems and hospitals operational. Israeli Officials Say hamas has fuel and they should be supplying it to gaza. Meanwhile, one of the hostages released by hamas, 85yearold Yocheved Lifshitz is speaking out saying she went through hell but was treated kindly and provided for, her husband is one of the more than 200 hostages still being held. And israels Ground Invasion seems to be on hold for now while negotiators try to fee more of the hostages. But the air strikes continue with hundreds reported in the past 24 hours. And so do those rockets as this war rages on. Reed . Well, the concern also this morning is that this conflict could spread to other border areas around that region. What is the likelihood and whats the risk by this morning . Reporter you know, reed, weve been keeping a close eye on this northern border with lebanon. But just in the past 24 hours, rockets were fired from syria into israel. Israel responded with air strikes inside syria. Killing eight military soldiers of the Syrian Military. Theres a lot of fear though that this war could spread up north. Not only to lebanon, but into syria and you know, israel saying that they conducted air strikes in syria is quite unusual. We know they have hit Iranian Forces in syria before. But that just kind of shows you the fear that this could become a wider war. The United States is telling iran just dont try to take advantage of this situation. But a second front up north is very possible. Reed . President joe biden telling iran dont, dont, dont. Were watching this one closely. Ian, please be safe. Well check back in with you later this morning. So everywhere weve been looking for optimism. Still though, his parents say they wake up every morning not knowing if their 23yearold son is still alive. Nicole . Developing overnight. Controversy in the east bay. Earlier this morning the Richmond CityCouncil Approved a resolution to recognize the suffering of palestinians in gaza and accuse israel of ethnic cleansing. Shawn chitnis joins us live from outside Richmond City hall and shawn, the debate, well, certainly got heated last night. Reporter nicole, good morning. It did. And as hundreds showed up to take part in that public comment. We saw a meeting that started last night go into the early hours of this morning before the city council could. In fact, make a vote. And had the chance to hear from people both in favor of against this resolution. The final vote, 51 by members of the city council here in richard monday. We want to do again share a little bit about what that resolution said some of the specific wording which said that palestinians in gaza are facing a campaign of ethnic cleansing by the state of israel. Even before the meeting and the vote, some debated whether a Community Like richmond should be getting involved in an issue like and if there are not morepressing matters for the city council but lawmakers argued that taxpayer dollars were involved in the conflict and there was need to speak out. Residents on both sides made arguments in favor of and against support this can resolution. Proud to live in a city that stands up and says no more. Not in our name. The violence must stop. The United States government must call for a cease fire and use its influence with israel and the International Community to negotiate an end to the killing. The safe return of the hostages and into the Apartheid Regime imposed by israel. I wish they werent suffering. But i am very distressed by the onesidedness of this original resolution and i think it is shameful that you had to have Public Feedback until you finally included the 1200 people in israel who were butchered and set on fire. Reporter and so to that last point about what was in the first version and what was then later changed, there were some amendments that were broughtup by councilmembers during meeting. Lets take a quick look at whats going on in the bay area. As we wake up this morning and think about what we care about, first thing first i care about a jacket on a morning like today. Especially with these temperatures. Low 50s in the santa clara valley. Clear skies and waking up this morning. Right behind me you can see bay bridge. Visibility not bad as were waking up and were sitting in the 50s near San Francisco. The exact same setup across the bay bridge over in oakland and past that into concord. Were all sitting at 54 degrees nice which chilly there. And heading into this afternoon, these clear skies well see some cloudier conditions right around the corner. Heres whats happening. We have a cold front sweeping its way in. Because some of russian actually going to see just a little splash of showers but thats isolated up in the north bay. Heres it by 10 00 in the morning. Clouds starting to roll in from the north and well see some wind gust nurse up to around 20, 25 Miles Per Hour specifically along the coast too. Moving from the north to the south. This is what its looking like just by 2 00. Notice that band of rain . It looks pretty intimidating right . Kind of. This is going to end up happening. See about 0. 01 of rain up near santa rosa and bodega bay as that begins to dissipate in the bay area. The rest of us are left with dry conditions just cloudy skies throughout the rest odd the evening hours tonight. Mild conditions for this evening. Now that cold front is going to bring in a lot cooler temperatures. This is the system right here but once that moves out of its way we have another one coming in on friday. That will keep our temperatures below average heading into our weekend forecast. So what is it going to look like today . About ten degrees cooler than where we were at yesterday specifically up in the inland areas. Santa rosa is a a good example of that. 67 degrees there and 60s throughout the inland areas from concord into antioch and actually going to be in the 60s all the way down into the santa clara valley. So chilly conditions for us today. A lot cooler compared to yesterday. I want to show you the next seven days real fast. Really going to be flirting with the upper 60s, lower 70s through the inland areas with sunny skies off in the distance. Gianna . Thank you. Lets talk about some of trouble spots we had earlier in san jose. Traffic is now moving once again in san jose. This, after a deadly crash involving two cars it actually shut down part of blossom hill road and winfield boulevard earlier this morning. Ill get that to in just a second but also Clear Conditions too in san jose as we head a little bit more north into San Francisco. All the way past the Golden Gate Bridge up into novato. Were sitting in the low 50s. A cool start this morning. Pretty much clear but into this afternoon, those clouds are going to start rolling their way in. Associated with this cold front. And it brings in moisture too. Not a lot and really just depends on where you live whether or not you are going to see just a splash of showers into this afternoon but lets time it out. Heres what we have from 5 00 a. M. All the way into that 3 00 hour. Im going to stop it just around here. 5 00. As we move into this evening hours tonight, many of us getting off work and heading home. This is what were going to be seeing, light speckled hours up in the north bay and for the rest of us just cloudy conditions. But it will get a little bit gustier too. It will say that. Wind speeds anywhere up to around 25 Miles Per Hour from offshore in the evening hours tonight. So windier conditions near San Francisco. Lighter conditions off in the east bay and that continues to track to the south with the cloudy skies. Were left with cold dense air behind that leaving us with about 0. 01 of rain in areas like santa rosa and along that coastline and speaking of the coastline. Lets actually head a little bit more south all the way down oh. Let me take that back. Here we go. Hurricane otis as we take a quick look at whats going on. Were seeing a very similar setup all the way down into livermore. And into the santa clara valley. 68 degrees today for our daytime highs and yesterday we were at 78 so you kind of see that contrast right there. Just within the matter of one day what a cold front can really do for us. So upper 60s and lower 70s. Were flirting with those back and forth through the rest of this week, for the inland areas sunnier skies off in the distance though as we head into our saturday and sunday forecast. The first inkling that something was wrong was i started to notice that i couldnt do things without losing my breath. I couldnt make it through the airport, and every like 20 or 30 yards i had to sit down and get my breath. Every physical exertion seemed to exhaust me. And finally, i went to the hospital where i was diagnosed with afib. When i first noticed symptoms, which kept coming and going, i should have gone to the doctor and told them what was happening. Instead, i tried to let it pass. If you experience irregular heartbeat, heart racing, chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, or lightheadedness, you should talk to your doctor.
