Charlie dagata, thank you. One other thing the president noted tonight is that he has been pushing to get that humanitarian aid into gaza, getting an agreement from the egyptian president , and yet still that aid is sitting at the gate, not yet inside. I want to bring in cbs news senior White House Correspondent at the white house, the president making this request for 100 billion to help u. S. Allies abroad, also for u. S. Border security. And yet, how likely is it that this will get through congress anytime soon, with no leader in the house . It is impossible, nora. Because in order to pass the funding request, you have to have a functioning congress, where both chambers can vote. Right now, that is not possible because that does not exist without a speaker of the house. Earlier today, i asked forces here, is the president going to call out republicans in any way for the chaos we are seeing on capitol hill for not being able to elect a speaker . And they said frankly, no, because this is not the right time for that. He is not going to waste this precious time to connect with the American Public to talk politics. But certainly, they believe the message was delivered very clearly, because this is not only a matter of israel and ukraine, but of security for americans at home. Nora . At the white house, where you can hear some protests outside. The president making the case today that it is American Leadership that holds the world together. And he will need the support of congress in order to continue that funding. Our coverage will continue on cbs news streaming your local news, and for some of you tonight on the cbs evening news. Cbs news will have a prime time special, israelhamas, the world on edge, tomorrow night at 10 00 p. M. It has been a cbs news special report. I am norah odonnell, in washington. From cbs news bay area, this is the evening edition. Thanks for staying with us, president biden, wrapping up his address to the American People from the oval office, good evening, im ryan yamamoto. Im elizabeth cook. A lot of news around the world, more in a moment, but first, as bring our attention to our other top stories that, the intense heat gripping the bay area. Lets give you a live look outside, plenty of sunshine right now, that has helped many spots approach record highs today. Even San Francisco could not escape the heat that might have kept crowds away from pier 39 today. These people had the right idea today, taking their boats and jet skis out on the water, this was in san jose. We are just taking advantage of the last hot days we have in california, enjoying the fine weather. In addition to the, we are seeing some dangerous surf along the coastline like at pacificas linda mar beach. Chief meteorologist paul heggen is tracking it all for us. Maybe this is just the last hot day of the year. Yeah, i think this is the last day of the year we will have widespread 90s on the map for inland parts of the bay area. It is still possible a spot or two may touch 90 for the next few weeks, but for the really widespread heat, this is pretty much it. It was definitely hot today, but the heat dome is starting to lose its grip on the bay area and that shift east. The storm system to our northwest is getting close enough to kick in a stronger onshore breeze, going to send more cloud cover toward us, even a chance of showers by the second half of the weekend. Plenty of sunshine in the forecast tomorrow, going to be a little cloud cover mixed in, and a mix of clouds and sun saturday. Not the blue skies we had today, solar generation will take a little hit the next couple days, those numbers will be significantly lower by sunday, with more clouds and a chance for showers. With the changing weather pattern will also yield a change in air quality, which was not great today. Worst equity was in land in the east bay, but we should see better air already tomorrow and back into the good category across the entire bay area as we head into the bay area early next week. There is the haze, just hanging on the horizon as we look at for mount diablo. Temperatures have retreated already by about 10 degrees in San Francisco, got up to 87 this afternoon, now down to 77, 81 across the bay in oakland, while inland temperatures still in upper 80s and low or mid 90s, 95 in santa rosa, san jose and santa rosa both broke record High Temperature today, unofficially for the moment, official word will come from the National Weather service we hope in the next few minutes pretenders will continue dropping tonight, just passing clouds overhead, temperature dropped to the midtoupper 50s, just the warmer spots near or barely above 60 to start tomorrow. Temperatures tomorrow afternoon will be remarkably cooler than they were today. Still several degrees above average in land, into the low or mid 80s in santa clara valley, but instead of 18 to 20 degrees above average, maybe 5 to 8 degrees above average. Same thing in land in the east bay, trivalley and the delta low to mid 80s, 70 down the peninsula, also for free but, only mid60s for half moon bay. Sentences go returns to the upper 60, low 70s oakland, with any degree on either side of what is normal for this time of year. So normal temperatures near the water, still slightly above average in land, including the north bay, but nothing as far above average for the north bay, which averages mostly reach mid or upper 70s. We do have a chance of showers in the forecast, lets look at what we expect with futurecast, and the change in temperatures is not all you will notice, we will see a return of the marine layer through tomorrow i into early saturday. It will be a mix of clouds and sunshine for saturday, but we remain dry. There will be some sunshine peeking through the clouds for saturday, more substantial moisture and clouds head toward a saturday night. You may see some radar fractals saturday is a sunday, a hit or miss shower pattern, not a huge rainmaker, but in the middle of october, we will take whatever we can get. Lets look at the sevenday forecast, starting with inland parts of the bay area, where temperatures take a big drop tomorrow. Another big drop saturday, we stay in the lower 70s sunday, then another warmup, but not nearly as warm by monday and tuesday of next week, then we settle into a near average temperature pattern through the latter half of next week. Around the bay, a similar drop over the next couple days, temperatures only in upper 60s with a better chance of showers around the bay, along the coast, and north of the golden gate sunday. Coastal temperatures got close to 80 degrees today. We will stay in the 60s the next several days, even the warmest days, tuesday and wednesday, only mid60s, which is a lot closer to normal for this time of year. We will of course keep an eye on the latest trends through the next several days. Liz and ryan, back in our virtual monitor, here. Hi, guys. I dont see you in person very often anymore. At least this way we feel a little closer, like we are almost in the same room. Just one giant wall and a couple rooms between us. Got to break down those walls, paul. See you soon. Com, or find a streaming any time on the cbs news app. We are starting to get answers about this mornings unexpected and for many alarming shake alert message. Speculative people woke up knowing what is happening . Lesla gooden shows us the officials who run the shake alert app say it was a minor glitch, and the problem is fixed. Right, you are probably one of the thousands of people who receive an alert this morning from the myshake app at 3 00 a. M. Pacific time. No, this was not supposed to happen, it was a glitch, leaving many residents confused. Reporter the my shake alert app was scheduled for a test alert on thursday at 10 19 a. M. But it did not go as planned. And soon to be bay area residents elizabeth and her husband say they were waiting for the alert but never got it. We did not get the 3 a. M. , but we also did not get the one we knew was scheduled to test the whole area at 10 19, we did not get that either. They were the only ones who did not receive the scheduled alert. Others we spoke with say the same. Even users on social media complained. Myshake app lead, robert degroot, says they are aware of the issues. To make sure this does not happen again , it is a fix that needed to be made in the time zones, where the alert was delivered, actually when the alert was delivered. It was delivered for the wrong time zone, it was delivered at 10 19 a. M. Utc, not pacific time. Reporter robert says the glitch has been fixed, and adds that some people still may not have got the correct test alert. It is possible some people may not get the alert right at 10 19, it may be a bit earlier or later. But i think you might be asking if some people did not get it at all. That is a very important thing to resolve. There are a number of factors that could be because of that. It could be that perhaps it was not installed correctly, or the cell phone reception was not as good as it was supposed to be. Reporter you further explain why the original magnitude reported was higher and then later downgraded. It was estimated magnitude 5. 7 because the first seismic stations that picked up the earthquake were very close to the epicenter. That gave the impression the quake was bigger than it really was. After sometime, the magnitude was lowered to 4. 2. Reporter it is important to remember, you will only get the test alert if you have the myshake app downloaded. For now, when it comes to the app,
