Reporter he is a structural geologist and professor at east bay both of these are faults. Reporter he has been paying attention to the hayward fault since 2013. There were many occurrences the last i looked 140 and 170 years and we are sort of in that range right now from 1868. Reporter we are due for one. He tells us the one expected to hit is estimated to be around a 6. 8. Right over there, behind there is a deep creek. It goes down about 80 feet. To a very steep little valley. And then it runs right, right there where you can see those cars. Right under there. Right up this way. Up to the hospital up to the lake. It runs up to there and merges with hayward fault. When they initially started building it i was curious. They drilled down, they put peers down there and rebar, fill today with concrete so pretty sure they made it down to the bedrock. There is bracing there. Big pieces of steel. So, this thing should stick around. Not sure about this one. Predicting when earthquakes will happen as of yet is impossible. Experts can tell us about the faults around news if it is a 6. 8 if it happens around here, you know, downtown hayward will be devastated, you know, a lot of brick buildings down there and, and you know, it is going to be ugly. Reporter he said it is important to have a kit to allow you to survive for several days. He has outside of his home he has bottled water, food, sleeping bags and even a tent. I am a big believer in a earthquake kit. A go bag. Ours is a go shelf to load up in the truck. The shelf needs to be portable. Yes. It is in tubs, ready to load up quickly. Including pet food. Important to remember that. We are talking about fault lines, some of us, namely myself, we need a visual aid. We have seen the maps, we have seen the lines spread out. We are taking advantage of our Virtual Reality studio for paul to show us. We have a big map and we can stand over here on the fault essentially. It runs up through the east bay. There is another fault that runs farther to the east that is through the valley underneath 680. These are the two that are most likely to go. A study back in 2014 that said there is a 70 chance or greater of a 6. 7 magnitude quake somewhere in the bay area between then and 2043. The chances are it is the hayward fault we will hope there are maybe some smaller quakes that release the tension and keep us away from real problems. Noin the meantime i am going to get out of here and let you deal with the fallout of that. We will talk about the weather instead. First alert weather day for tomorrow, the temperatures will be warming up. In the short term, we are seeing locally dense fog developing through the rest of tonight. Not as widespread. We will see full sunshine taking over middle to late morning through the rest of the day. The temperatures are going to warm up from close to normal start. The temperatures, mostly in the 50s, only the warmest spots around 60 degrees, we are just going to see the temperatures taking off once the sun comes up and once the fog dissipates. Lets take a look at the forecast highs for tomorrow. The numbers warmer than where we topped out today. San jose, 81 today, 91 tomorrow. Keeping the temperatures low enough that you do not quite get up to 90 degrees in petaluma. All of the numbers, a good 1015 degrees above average. The heat advisory goes into effect at 11 00 a. M. Tomorrow. In terms of whether or not it is dangerously hot, it will only be dangerous if you do not exercise common sense. Take breaks, find airconditioning, it is moderate heat risk across most regions heading through the next couple of days, thursday the hottest day. The moderate heat risk. Cooler than average by the time saturday rolls around. Here is a look at how close we will be at record territory on the hottest day on thursday. Likely to break a record several degrees, everybody else will be within 23 degrees of the records. Lets take a look at the sevenday forecast. We have big changes in store once the heat comes to an end. Temperatures inland, from the 90s to the 80s on friday and down to the 70s. Talking about a 2025 degree drop from thursday afternoon to saturday afternoon. That is some weather whiplash. Outside chance that as the cooler air rolls in it might squeeze out ashore or two. The odds are far below 50 50. A 20 degree drop from thursday afternoon to saturday afternoon. You usually do not see that swing closer to the water. It will be more of a modest change along the coast. Close to 80 degrees along the coast on thursday. Then, only in the lower 60s by saturday and sunday with cooler air sticking around into next week.
