The white house says President Biden has spoken to israels Prime Minister and the president of the palestinian authority. According to officials on both sides of the conflict, more than 3,000 people have died since the hamas attack on israel a week ago. This was the scene earlier in gaza as people tried to get across the border into egypt. Egypts foreign minister told cnn that while the gate is open, bombings have destroyed the roads on the gaza side making them impassable. And we have learned within the past hour that a second u. S. Aircraft carrier is on its way to the eastern mediterranean. Here is video today of a u. S. Military transport plane landing at an israeli air base. This was the second u. S. Ship in israel this week delivering precision guarded munitions and iron dome equipment. The secretary of state is overseas working with allies trying to find a way to get americans out of gaza before Israeli Forces move in. Bradley blackburn has the details. Reporter the u. S. Believed it secured a corridor for americans to escape gaza, but egypt still has not opened the gate at the border crossing. This american citizen is trying to get his family to safety. He said the embassy called at 2 00 in the morning telling him to be at the crossing by noon, but hes still not been allowed to cross. Its vitally important that all of us look out for civilians. Were working diligently to do exactly that. Reporter israel continues its Bombing Campaign in gaza targeting hamas sites. Hamas is a terrorist group. Its only agenda is to destroy israel and jews. Reporter israel has warned civilians to flee the area as its massing troops on the border ahead of a planned land invasion. Its deployed forces across the country and is increasing readiness. The israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu visited soldiers, asking if theyre ready, and said more is coming. Cbs news, new york. The World Health Organization has sent medical supplies to support gaza. The supplies landed in egypt close to the crossing today. The supplies have yet to be deployed as the organization waits on humanitarian access through the crossing. Turkey, jordan, and the United Arab Emirates have also sent medical aid to the area. As the violence continues in israel, here in the bay area, hundreds gathered at the Ferry Building in San Francisco to protest israels bombing of gaza. John ramos has the story. Mostly these people were evicted forcefully from their homeland. This is the, the source of the conflict. By judaism isnt determined by israel. I know what genocide looks like, and it looks like whats going on in palestine. Its wrong. They have to find a different, a different way. And thats really more on israel than anybody else. Its on our government, the United States government as well. Here in california, today was the deadline for Governor Newsom to sign or veto bills. Newsom says he finished the remaining bills last night. One bill will allow speed cameras to be installed in some bay area cities. Heres the story. Reporter governor gavin newsom has signed a bill into law that will allow the use of speed cameras in the state. San francisco, san jose, and oakland along with three other cities in Southern California will now be able to pilot speed camera programs. The law will allow San Francisco to install 33 cameras across the city. The organization walk San Francisco was a huge supporter of the bill from the beginning. Walk sfs executive director says she believes the new law will really help improve safety on city streets. Weve seen it work in other places. Places like new york city have brought down speeding around the cameras by, um, almost 60 . Reporter the Pilot Program will begin in 2025 and run for five years. The cameras will be placed on streets with the highest crash rates as well as school zones. Jodie says while shes happy about this, its just one of several strategies the city needs to prioritize to make the San Francisco streets safer. I mean, this is one tool in your tool box. A city like San Francisco has a lot of other tools. This is one tool, and its a layered effect, right . We cant just put one thing out there and think its going to cure our speeding problem its a multilayer need in a city that has a serious problem. Reporter according to walk sf, 14 pedestrians have been killed in the city this year, and hundreds more injured. Necessary in addition to the speed cameras, the organization is pushing banning turning right on red lights and parking at intersections. Jodie believes the city has a long way to go to make the streets as safe as possible, but this law will definitely help. This is something that we have been working on and believe that it will change the way people drive and really realize that its not acceptable to be speeding in a very dense neighborhoodbased city like San Francisco. Reporter specific locations for the 33 cameras have not yet been chosen. The city is expected to work with local communities to create the program guidelines. Guidelines. The Pilot Program will cost a lot of money. A Coalition Program sent us a statement saying a lot, not all speeding is related to bad road design and lack of traffic calming features, which is especially present in inner city low income neighborhoods with traditionally low levels of public investment. Now to stories were following from around the bay area. Heads up for peninsula drivers. Northbound lanes of 101 between britain and whipple avenues are closed this weekend. Theyre replacing the bridge along the freeway. The lanes will reopen at 5 00 monday morning. Qualcomm will lay off more than 1200 workers in california. 194 workers in the bay area and more than a thousand in san diego will be let go in december. Well break it down. What was up with all the clouds . And what does it say about our next chance of rain. Well look at all that coming up next in the forecast. The next total eclipse in the u. S. Will be in april of 2024. And that one will be a total. That will be total. So this one wasnt because the moon didnt block the sun completely. Thats what makes it so special because just from a rare freak occurrence, even though theyre so far apart, the moon and sun are almost the exact same size in the sky though one is enormously larger. Was i surprised to talk about weather . Yeah, but you know what, it was hard to see it because i had to peek through the clouds today. We did not get a good show here. Its the images that will come from utah that really make this for this one. So the sky today looked pretty incredible. Yeah, a lot of clouds i have to go to the time lapse of the clouds. This is the last three hours. Watch what happens here. First of all, youre going to see clouds here that look kind of like ufos. Thats the first of three weird looking clouds right there. See them . Those, theyre not moving. The winds is moving through them. The clouds are stationary and take on that really weird ufo look. Those are when you have strong winds coming against mountain ranges and give you little waves in the atmosphere. Look behind them. Those are from the cold front we have coming in. And then halfway through the time lapse, the foreground showed up. Theres another cold front coming. The cold front responsible for those incredible clouds and the light rain we got in the north bay, its influence is gone now other than cool looking clouds. But the next one is coming behind it. Theres another chance of the rain in the north bay on mound. On monday. So heres the big view. That one will come together, pull in moisture from the southwest. Thats what its doing on monday. If we look at it slightly differently, thats an Atmospheric River bringing large amounts of rain to the north. Were not getting that. But its nice to sigh the atmosphere is already in that time of year. Our chance might come in january. More on that later. Heres what the system looks like for us in terms of rain. I just advanced us to the monday time frame. Watch it fall apart before it gets here. And this is what the last four systems have done. The forecast for the last three weeks have been hey, maybe theres a small chance of rain only in the north bay. Because its that time of year where the systems still come in too far north to get down here. Looking at big picture, we get maybe a half inch of rain out of that one. Theyll get a lot more of that one in oregon. Thats monday afternoon. Maybe a drop or two of rain through Sonoma County . It wouldnt be much. And then the warm up takes over. Thats the last system like that. By tuesday the atmosphere changes. By thursday theres a big bubble of warmth over us. And watch the warm up were about to go through. These are tomorrows daytime highs, almost identical to todays. Then we advance it to thursday. Thats when the numbers start climbing back into the low 90s again. These numbers here are getting close to ten degrees above average this time of year when you do that. For San Francisco at 80, thats about ten degrees above average. It happens, but the average is 71. So were not breaking records, but its going to be warm. By the time we get to thursday, plenty of sunshine. But we keep the clouds around. I doubt theyll look anywhere as near as interesting as they do out there right now.
