When the fire came through here in 2020 it did jump the freeway. Reporter we got a look at the vacaville under ground circuit. It sits in the burn scar of the 2020lnu lightning complex fires. A high wind area. We had a lot of doubters, today, we completed the civil work for the 350th mile. Our goal is to bury 10,000 miles of line. Reporter the ceo says the under ground submission to prevent future wildfires and reduce Public Safety power shutoffs. It comes at a cost to ratepayers. Is there push back . Yeah. I think what most people are worried about is is afordability. Here is the important thing that i want your viewers to know. That, it is, it is less expensive to bury the lines as we are doing than it is toton do overhead conductor and all of the Vegetation Management that goes with it year after year after year. Reporter the goal now is to have these lines live by the end of the year and once they are energized, all of these lines, come down. Pg e is still in the under ground stage. What they proposed is not affordable for customers. Reporter katie is with utility reform network. Advocates on behalf of ratepayers. A faster and cheaper solution is to insulate power lines instead of burying them. We dont believe that undergrounding is necessarily the solution that is in customers best interests the power lines come at a lower price point and it can be installed quickly. Reporter pg e plan needs final approval by the cpu c. A vote is expected in november. Until then, the Utility Company is hoping to deliver on its mission. We want customers to know that building this infrastructure is a permanent solution. We are not going to bandaid the system anymore. So the price sounds high at first but for 3. 40 a month to be able to get permanent safe infrastructure for generations to come. I think that is a price that people are willing to pay. Reporter so, the pcuc is set to vote november 2nd. They would not speak to us on camera but sent us a statement that showed their position, miles apart from p g e. They proposed slash the buried lines to 973 miles and the main favored plan cut it further to 200 miles. Regulators want them to spend less money on burying the lines and instead insulate bare wires in high risk areas. Now to the war between israel and hamas. Heading through, middle to late morning. That is why we are pessimistic about the opportunity to see that partial eclipse. More clouds than sunshine. The atmosphere dries out. Greater clearing trend is going to kick in on sunday. High pressure takes over from the south, nudging the clearing line farther to the north heading through the day on sunday. A chance of rain we have tomorrow, 1020 range of anything measurable. Just because you can feel mist or drizzle in the atmosphere does not mean it is rain. Moisture that has to be register and a slight chance of that. Same thing on monday next week with the next batch that will be rolling through. Right now, looking through downtown. The temperatures are beginning to cool off. 60 degrees in downtown San Francisco. Everybody else has retreated into the 60s. We will all tumble down into the 50s later tonight. Lower 70s in oakland, the cooler spots with the greatest impact from the cloud cover and the moisture it will be in the north bay valleys. Thicker clouds, a chance of a couple clouds and drizzle. Keeping the temperatures limited to the lower half. Better chance of warming up as we head into the second half of the weekend. More of a warm up in store for everybody as we go into the sevenday forecast. The temperatures warm up on sunday, retreat on monday. Then, a warm up comes in by wednesday. Middle to upper 80s, some threatening 90s. Far cry from the 90 degree temperatures we had in San Francisco to oakland over the weekend. The warmest, 80 degrees around thursday, along the coast modest warm up. It will be noticeable. The temperatures in the 60s, then, coastal drizzle on saturday. Then, we climb up into the lower 70s by wednesday, thursday, friday with more and more sunshine. Just a pretty typical october pattern. A little bit of drizzle here and there. We will take it.
