We are winning with this cooldown and im not going to be one whos going to complain. It just feels on brand for this time of year. Jess . Absolutely. I mean, last weeks heat wave felt way off brand right . It felt like summer last week and it feels like fall this week and lets keep it up and actually take a look at whats going on outside right now. This morning as were waking up throughout the bay area, its little bit breezy for us and we have that cold front sweep its way through last night bringing in the clouds and some showers for us and ill show you the rain totals in just a moment. Were waking up to the 50s this morning. So definitely grab the jacket before you head outside. Its long sleeve weather day. Were going to warm up into the 70s this afternoon throughout our inland areas with sunshine. But still, those breezy conditions, its going to be a nice cool one for us especially with that onshore flow. Heres what were looking at for Current Conditions right now. Mostly clear skies above San Francisco. As we wake up this morning. That cold front that swept through gave us about a quarter inch of rain in areas like sausalito all the way up into mount tam but way less impressive numbers down south close to the Santa Cruz Mountains. That system moved in from the north and this is very normal during this time of year to see the systems really sweep thruway impacting the north bay a lot more than the south bay. But no matter where you live todd, were all clearing up as we head into this afternoon. Were actually going to see some more rain returning to the forecast as we head into friday. But for now, its clear for our wednesday setup and its clear mostly for thursday. Just high clouds sweeping their way in from offshore as we gear up for that next chance of showers. That will actually push in friday but still light and speckled at max. The story for us today, its the windy conditions. After that system moved its way through yesterday, were left with breezy conditions into this afternoon. And anywhere up to around 30mileperhour winds along the coast. A very similar trend inland too as we head into the evening hours tonight. Ill have more own that in a bit coming up but for now over to you, g. All right, jess, thank you. A Traffic Alert continues for commuters who use the richmondsan rafael bridge. So headsup. You might want to leave a little early reasons again today. Chp says the truck driver a 43yearold from antioch died at the hospital. No one else was hurt in the crash. But part of the toll plaza was destroyed so its unclear how long those repairs are going to take. But until then, expect delays and dont forget wide load vehicles will have to go around and use highway 37 and a lot of people might be doing that anyway for your morning commute. So definitely give yourself some extra time if you are taking the richmondsan rafael bridge this morning. Lets get a look at traffic conditions elsewhere. If you are taking the bay bridge, you are going to grab that coffee too. Its already busy and trafficbacked up well beyond the over pass. Now quite to the maze but certainly getting busier getting closer to the 7 00 hour. And were getting a sense of israels strategy today. After days of air strikes on a hamas targets p now boots on the ground and dozens of them in battalions ready to march on gaza. Hamas rockets continued into the night aimed at israeli targets and were glad to tell you most of those rockets were intercepted by the iron dome Defense Systems and theyre really working hard to try to beat back hamas rocket attacks and carrying out hundreds of air strikes. Those have been going on in the last several hours likely while you were asleep. President joe biden briefed several times a day while he stays in close contact with israeli Prime MinisterBenjamin Netanyahu. We stand with israel. Defense Officials Say a small group of u. S. Special forces are there on the ground to help with planning and intelligence. Meanwhile, in gaza, people who live there are searching for survivors of these israeli air strikes. Its time for all of this to come to an end for the sake of everyone. They only know that their sons arm was severed but they have not heard from him since. Meanwhile, another family says the grandmother from fresno was sitting on her porch when the neighborhood was attacked. They are undeniably traumatized. I want also to speak about the responsibility that the u. S. Administration, president biden, and the secretary of state blinken has for the lives of every u. S. Citizen that is out there and they are responsible to bring the u. S. Citizens back home safe and sound. So the white house says the u. S. Currently does not know the exact number of americans that are being held hostage this morning. Nicole . Israel is retaliating relentlessly from the skies. There have been hundreds of strikes on the gaza strip. The Palestinian Ministry of health says at least 9350 people have died just there and more than half of them are women and children. The organization has not been able to host anyone in recent years because of covid concerns. But janine says shes ready to help now. The founder of the pcrf says its impossible to know exactly when they will be able to start getting kids out of gaza but theyre already seeking volunteers to help. Were open for people from every background, Mental Health specialists, doctors, surgeons, nurses, trauma specialists, physical and occupational therapists, businessmen, housewives, college students, were an organization that enables anybody who wants to volunteer a place to come forward. All right, well, i hope whoever wins, you know, treats their friends and family nice. Lets take a quick look at whats going on outside this morning. As we take a live look at our current temperatures, and that live look behind me light new from san jose, its mild and kind of cool and were done with the cold fronts at least for now that swept their way through earlier this week. We had one on monday and we had one yesterday. As were waking up this morning to the 50s from San Francisco across the bay bridge over into oakland, its a mild start to the morning. But still kind of cool so make sure you are layering up before you head outside. Heres what the winds are looking like right now and wind gusts anywhere up to around 25 Miles Per Hour just along the coastline this morning. In the afternoon notice how the winds still push in from the north. It will be a breezy afternoon for us so any outdoor objects bring them in now before you head to work and of course ladies, well, gentlemen with long hair too, it is definitely hair tie weather day. As we head into the evening hours tonight, well continue to see that onshore flow, excuse me, all along areas like halfmoon bay up into bodega bay. Diamonds this afternoon. For the friends in the north bay yesterday we were in the 60s and today, were talking about 70s and were kind of get back to where we should be for this time of year. Of course that cold front swept through. Anywhere from San Francisco down into halfmoon bay, were also dealing with 60s today. Let continue to head south along 101 down into the Santa Clara Valley with 70s this afternoon. All the way down into morgan hill and right back up as we head up into the east bay. Were seeing more 70s in sight for us. So 60s along the coast. 70s in our inland areas is that going to change anytime soon . Well, taking a look at the next seven days actually flirting back and forth with upper 70s and lower 80s in the forecast. Wrapping up this week and heading into the weekend. The next time potentially showers in the forecast, its friday. And mostly for the north bay actually. Daytime highs for friends closer to the bay like oakland and San Francisco, for now were mostly sitting in the low 70s. Were actually warming up just a little bit more as he head into this thursday forecast and then cloudy skies will fill the bay this mild weekend. Gianna . Getting busy jessica. A live look at the richmondsan rafael bridge right now. Look at this. Its already getting backed up this morning and going to be busy until they repair the extra two lanes that were blocked. This from a crash that happened on monday night. Tot of this lanes are shut down for further notice until repairs. Give yourself extra time and encouraging people to use alternate routes if you can. You can likely use the highway 37 area from 80 all the way other to novato. Vallejo to novato. That works as well. But thats likely going to be busy as well as a lot of people avoid the brake lights at the richmondsan rafael bridge. At the bay bridge, metering lights are on and were already seeing that commute stacking up for anyone making that ride over into San Francisco. Getting a little crowded across the upper deck of the bay bridge as well. So definitely starting to see as we get closer to 7 00, how busy things are. Kind of wish to show you overview of the east bay tracking brake lights into the altamont pass. Weve got a crash reported right around north flynn. Another trouble spot as you work your way in and out of the dublin interchange. On 580. Thats backed up as well. Eastbound and if you are driving into hayward this morning, getting ready to hop on 880, thats busy southbound from that Castro Valley y connector all the way down towards 92 or connects on the san mateo bridge. October is Breast Cancer awareness month. It is a crucial time to educate ourselves and our loved ones. Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in the u. S. And in fact listen to this. One in eight women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer this year alone. And joining us this morning to help raise awareness is stanford ob gyn leah mill hiser, thank you so much for taking the time to come in this morning. Thank you for having me. We possible know the research and the research and the data to getting a mammogram and screening et cetera. But i want to know for me at 43 years old, gianna, you know, any of our viewers at home, what can you do starting today when it comes to your Overall Health . It could be diet and working out et cetera to help prevent. For women in their 40s, mid 40s to early 50s, number one its about screening. So theres a lot of controversy around when should i start screening and do i start at 40 . Do i start at 45 ore later . So there was no consensus on when to start screening. However, most organizations will say start at age 40 some will say start at age 45. The reason theres some issue around that is because 345 and younger we dont see a lot of Breast Cancer. And if you get a mammogram early, the false positive rate is higher. However, because we know people have certain risk factors, we say start somewhere between 40 and 50 every one two to years and typically continue that until about age 75. Something in the news little lay with screening is the density of your breast tissue and how sometimes you cant really see anything if its more dense or as easily with a mammogram to detect cancer. How do you find out if thats how your breast is if you have dense tissue and then what do you do from there to make sure you are getting checked properly . Right, so most of us when were premenopausal meaning before menopause we tend to have more dense breast tissue thats replaced by fatty issue. The amount of dense breast tissue you have varies so we know that fibrous and you know, glandular tissue makes the breast feel more dense. That can make screening a little bit more difficult. So oftentimes women will be called back to have a secondary screening so you may get a mammogram and then get that call back to come in for an ultrasound. So we do see that happening more often in younger women. However, if you do have dense breast tissue, just be aware that that is a marker, its a risk factor for Breast Cancer. So we want to make sure that those women instead of maybe getting a mammogram every two years, you want to get it every year. You know, i had the opportunity to sit in a diagnosis room when somebody close to me was receiving the diagnosis for Breast Cancer and they laid out her treatment plan. And thats when you really realized that what you see on tv, these conversations that we have during Breast Cancer awareness month, they are real. This affects the entire family. And my question for you is how as a man can i be supportive to the women in my life . To make sure that they know this is important and im right there behind you. Thats right. Whether or not you are a care gaver, you are a spouse, you are a partner, you are a friend, obviously emotional support is the most important thing that you can do. Being there for a friend, being there to deliver food when needed to the family. When a woman is going through acute treatment meaning chemotherapy, maybe surgery and maybe shes going through radiation, theres fatigue and exhaustion and feeling unwell. So having the support is really, really important. We do know in relationships, this is actually probably the most important thing i can say is that in relationships, sometimes there can be a little bit of difficulty during that treatment phase. So we know that cancer weve heard cancer brings couples together and sometimes it doesnt. If there are some issues in the relationship, im talking about with your primary partner. Please get some counseling around that. Theres potential to get worse. And thats something that really helps a lot of people because we everybody reacts to their treatment differently. Emotionally, physically, sew making sure you have emotional support whether its from a friend or a therapist. You know, having those people rally around you is probably the best thing that you can do. That is such a great piece of advice. Because oftentimes you dont think about that emotional and mental toll that it takes from diagnosis to journey. Thank you dr. Millhiser for joining us this morning. Time right now 6 21. Theres been a lot of love for the niners offense but the defense is playing lightsout. The praise for fred warner in the locker room. Plus this man knows how to win in the postseason. But yesterday, oh it was gorgeous having all the rain in the forecast too. Lets actually start off down in the south bay this morning. It is windy as can be this live look behind me, this is actually from our Black Mountain cam as we wake up this morning. It is cool and it is still mild for us this morning as were waking up and heading out the door. 50s in the forecast from san jose all the way off into los gatos. In the 50s stretching north up into San Francisco too. Where its also a little bit breezy here right now. Actually want to just dive straight into the wind. This morning alone definitely picking up a bit more along the coast in the next couple of hours. About 25mileperhour winds expected along the coast. Just by lunchtime and were going to continue to see that onshore flow stay consistent into the evening hours tonight. So yesterday, that cold front swept through. It brought in cloudy skies for a little bit and of course it brought in all that rain. It ended up amounting close to around actually there we go. Ended up amounting mostly around a quarter inch of rain from sausalito over into mount tam. Less impressive numbers to the south closer to the Santa Cruz Mountains just due to the the way the storm swept its way in. But now were actually all catching a break. Sunny skies for us this afternoon. A same trend heading into thursday forecast. Its not until friday where we see the next band of rain move its way in slowly and even at that, still going to be one of those systems that kind of comes in light and moves its way in from the north and starts to break apart as we head to the south. Update you on that and more on the weekend forecast in just a bit. For now over to you. All right, jessica, thank you. Traffic alert for commuters continues if you use the richmondsan rafael bridge. You might want to consider leaving early once ben. Heres a live look and you can see theres still trucks on scene there. The far right lanes are still closed at the toll plaza. Al semitruck slammed into that area caught fire and this happened on monday night. The truck driver a 43yearold from antioch unfortunately died at the hospital. No one else was hurt though in the crash. But part of the toll plaza was destroyed and you can see the top right there. And part of the roadway as well. So its unclear how long repairs will take until then though, expect delays for anyone using the richmondsan rafael bridge. Wide load vehicles. You will have to go around and use highway 37 which likely a lot of people will do anyway to avoid some of those brake lights. And i want to show you 37 just to track delays and brake lights through there. Headed westbound, its a little slow through mare island. But actually looking okay the rest of the way. If you are taking the eastshore freeway, out of american canyon, towards there, right now its moving along okay but if you are headed to highway 12 over it will 0. We have reports of a crash. You can see that just at the top of our screen there in our mapping system. Thats causing quite a few brake lights and delays. Same with the bay bridge. No crashes but a busy ride for anyone making that trek into San Francisco right now. And if you are waking up early getting ready to head out the door for the ride out of the east bay, its busy into the altamont pass, a crash near north flynn and another trouble spot near the dublin interchange. School districts are gapping with the potential for our children to see graphic and even violent images out of the middle east on social media. Case in point, in marin county. You got the see this. Parents got this warning last night about frightening senseless harmful videos. Now we want show you these are the images and video out of israel and gaza that we can show you. As you can imagine, we have to filter as News Organization what makes air because much of the video out there is too graphic to have in your homes on your television set. But the internet and social media are different. They often hit the phones and tablets without screening processes to really vet information for validity or make sure that they are not violent. Right . So parents we want to know your plans for your childs social media activity. Sound off on social media and use the kpix but this morning the conversation is in they are asking parents to just delete tiktok from the childs phone for fear that the imagings could be used to influence young people. You have so many different apps but tiktok its such an influential app for young children. I mean i have an 11yearold boy and 13yearold boy and 14. Sorry michael. And you know, you are constant let hearing about new music and images like what are they seeing . You cant possibly police the content 24 7. Its a little easier when theyre younger of course because theyre not on social media and you can kind of manage what theyre watching. But when they goat to an age where they can sort of navigate on their own and they get their own personal phones. Kids are savvy and have ways to hide what theyre watching on their phones. So i just think as parents we have to just be really focused and Pay Attention. Especially with images like that. As an adult, it is just heartbreaking. And just hard to watch. I dont want my kids to see that. Ongoing conversation for our community. The israel hamas war has brought out strong emotions from people passionate about the two communities. And their decades long conflict. One of many issues that could lead to harsh language from family members and friends and neighbors arguing with each other. A new book this month tries to often ways we can use more inclusive language to help better understand each other and encourage more productive conversations. Shawn chitnis spoke with the author and you know weve seen situations all over the bay area where civic dialogue broke down and in fact you are live in walnut creek. Where the city council recently said they had to end Public Comment virtually because of hate speech. We know of other clashes in the bay that could benefit from all of us learning how to be more inclusive and how we listen to each other. How we talk to each other. What did you learn . Reporter well, reed, exactly right. Here in walnut creek theyre going to have this issue twice a month with those public meetings. We of course know that School Boards are having controversial topics up for vote so thats adding to it as well. And then theres that president ial election that is coming around next year.
