Long hes been here, he said three days. The youngest victims of homelessness in San Francisco. What to do about a bay area crisis as neighbors put their Heads Together finding solutions. And gives it a long ride. Gone. Gone and so are the giants from the playoff picture. Give me one month. Ill do something that symbolizes freedom. Think you cant . Weve got a bay area swimmer defying age and the odds, saying you can. Halfway through the workweek, bay area, lets go. And we are jumping in with both feet as well. Good morning everybody. Im reed cowan. Its nice to have you here. Brr. I know. Looks scolded jumping into the water. Im gianna franco. But hopefully the temperatures are not going to be as cold as it would be in the bay. Hey darren. Good morning. Thanks for hanging out with us by the way. Jess is off today. Yeah, jess is off today. Glad to be here with you guys. We have a beautiful morning to start out. And the camera that sits up above the Santa Clara Valley is probably one of the best ones to look at right now. Were starting to see some of the Early Morning light fill the sky. What you dont see is any marine layer or fog in that view. Were starting to transition away from that at this time of year and by the way if you are wondering sunrise is still an hour away. Well get there. Together over the next hour. Lets put some numbers on this map. I want to show you what the current temperatures feel like out there at this point. Theres a theme that is showing up here. You got a lot of mid 50s for the south bay. And then when you get to the inland valleys you are a little closer to 6. Livermore right now closer to 60. The number in redwood city is mid 50s. San francisco is still sitting at 60 degrees. And if we go to the inland valleys for inland contra costa county. 60 degrees for concord and antioch. But santa rosa, that number for you up there, is 50 degrees. Thats what we start to see this time ofier when we start transitioning into fall and winter. Speaking of which the next chance of rain is already showing up. Its on saturday. Its a very small chance. A very light rain. So its not a big impactful one. But it is an update to what the forecast had looked like over the past 24 hours and were going to talk about that coming up in the complete first alert forecast coming up in a few minutes. Gianna back to you. Right to oakland this morning. Along 580 and im getting word where chp about a road closure on 580 all lanes eastbound right at grant avenue there from there to macarthur boulevard are completely shut down. No word yet just an accident or Police Activity but you can see the backup is building and it is countercommute. You can still use 880. Thats wide open in both directions. As an alternate route. South 880, instead of eastbound 580. And well look into why those lanes are closed. But again eastbound 580, this just in. Completely shut down between grand and macarthur boulevard. Reed . Breaking International News out of north korea this morning. Travis king, the u. S. Soldier who crossed into north korea is now in american custody. You might remember back in july, king crossed the border between the north and the south over the demilitarized zone. At the time, north korea said king sought refuge from the united states. Well, north koreas official news agency saying this morning authorities finished questioning king and decided to send him home. Well, during hispanic heritage month, we are checking in on the health of latino owned businesses. Latino entrepreneurs continue to start businesses faster than any other group. And a brand new report out this morning from the latino donor collaborative found that latino economic output reached 3. 2 trillion in 2021. Now the report also found that if u. S. Latinos were an independent country, their gdp would rank them fifth in the world. According to a report from Stanford LatinoBusiness Owners are growing by 44 in the past decade and yet still face many challenges especially as one of the largest underbanked groups in the country. Thats according to the fdic. Shawn chitnis is live now in san jose with more on the impact and of course the Community Help it can have on Small Businesses when they need it the most. Reporter hey gianna, good morning. Yeah, and we are seeing that spirit of entrepreneurship right here at this business district. We do want to emphasize though some of the challenges you were talking about when it comes to not having the banking resources for latino businesses in some cases its just because they have a short credit history. They dont have all the documentation. Or just dont have enough knowledge about how the Financial Institutions in the country work. Thats why those who have made it work for themselves want to continue to bring awareness for the need to have more resources and support for other new businesses. Alicia villanueva has never forgotten about the journey she went on to get to this kitchen. Originally from mexico, she came to the u. S. In 2000. Eager for the opportunities it presented her. We come to this country because like as immigrant because we are looking for a better life for and a good education for our kids. Reporter working two jobs with a family, she started making tamales at home. Selling them on the street and by knocking on doors. She knew she had something special, but needed help to make it a success. Everybody has a dream. And in business and everything, so just work hard and find the resources and its going to come through. For sure. Reporter axion Opportunity Fund gave alicia a crucial first loan to start deliveries while coaching her along the way. Frequently she was shut out of the traditional Financial System and she was not able to access the capital she needed in order to grow her business. Reporter but alicia says passion and perseverance carried her to new milestones. They have plenty of grit, determination, and grace to work hard and deliver and all they need is a little bit of help from those of us who are here to help them. Reporter order after order confirms that her approach is working. Which includes the most important ingredient of all, lots of love. I say to my ladies that when they are cooking or preparing or assembly, everything, do like you are doing for your family. Reporter the path requires a lot of sacrifice. She and other immigrants chose to come to this country. Which she never forgets. And makes every moment she spends at her Business Today all the more satisfying. Always i say, i pinch myself to see like if this is true. And its true. Reporter and she still faces new challenges of course with the pandemic. She had to pivot from being a business that was really relying on catering to now having important contracts with School Districts and businesses. But that pinch me moment shes talking about, almost 20 years in the making, and 2001 shortly after she got to the u. S. , thats when she started making those tamales at home and then in 2010 she began the path to start that business. Opening it in 2015. Went from six employees to now 60 employees. Reed and gianna, back to you. That is incredible. Shawn, thank you for that story. Six to 60 employees. I think the tamales look delicious first. Shes now employing so many people thats my favorite about this. You think about the anytime you had a dream at home or you had a dream. None of us got what we ended up achieving alone. We had a community of people who helped. And you hear her say she was shut out so many times getting those loans. Thats Corporate Responsibility stepping forward and giving people a path forward but yes i agree, bring them in. Hollywood headlines herald an end to the Writers Strike. The issue of how to handle the homelessness crisis in San Francisco is so contentious two people went headtohead last night. A contenders a local Business Owner and a prominent advocate who usually Exchange Blows online rather than inperson. But the one thing they have in common, both have taken a lot of heat for their opinions. Betty yu was there as this Community Debate took place in front of a packed house at mannys. Were not going to hiss. Were not going to boo. Were not going to clap. Reporter before a full house at mannys, deli board owner adam mesnick, who runs the x account bettersoma, says he became an expert on homelessness through personal experience. I have found two dead bodies, one in 2023, one in 2019. Both walking my dog outside of my home. If you have seen the conditions on 7th and mission, and you can look at me and honestly tell me that thats humane, then i will give up. Reporter adam approached jennifer friedenbach, executive director on the coalition of homelessness, for a public debate. The group is suing the city, arguing it violated the law by clearing homeless encampments before clearing the shelter. A temporary limit. On sweeps of Homeless People. What we have to do to have a functioning homeless system. One of the first things we have to do is we have to prevent people from becoming homeless in the first place. Last year in San Francisco, for every one person, you know, that we got off, we had five more people becoming homeless. Reporter adam believes the city needs a tougher, more aggressive approach to handling open air drug use, Mental Illness, and homelessness. We need medical professionals to actually screen these people and figure out what their real needs are. How in the world do you ask a fentanyl addict whos in a tent, high, if they want services . You have to give these people a time to decompress a little bit. Give them an opportunity to take a shower. So what does that look like . Does that look like give them hope. Reporter owner Manny Yekutiel gave jennifer an opportunity to respond to why she called adam, who often posts grim street scenes, toxic. I think the quote was, i think hes well intentioned, but his messaging is often toxic. The reason i said that also you accused me of murder and you have done it like a lot of other stuff on social media that goes after me. Then you can respond to her. Just let her finish. You know, that so but that that aside, i think that what is happening in a lot of the debate is that were dehumanizing folks. Reporter adam says the city needs to do more to make San Francisco less attractive. Its crazy. I just saw a kid yesterday, i asked him how long hes been here, he said three days. He came from New Hampshire. Coming here is the cheapest fentanyl on the planet. Its the easiest place to sustain on the bottom with zero consequences. Reporter jennifer said the city needs to appropriately match people with the right services. Pushing people from block to block doesnt really thats what we have been doing. You give someone a citation or you give them arrest, theyre back in the same situation, theyre worse off. Reporter though they differ on how to best uphold it, both agreed the dignity of the people on the street are important. Lets give them a round of applause, both of them. [ applause ] all right, so kudos for a dignified discussion it likes like everybody was heard last night. You know what i want to see and its something i saw in las vegas when i did something called the homeless project in las vegas and also has a huge homeless problem. See Homeless People in the room talking about what they experience. Its one thing to have a citizen there. Showing what the Homeless People are living out on the street. Its another thing to hear directly from people who are caught in the cycle of homelessness. I hope we can see that. I think hearing that perspective might be very eyeopening so many people. I think we have a certain impression when we see people on the street struggling with either Mental Illness or loss of jobs. Who knows what the story was and how they got there . We have culture of people who talk about people but we dont hear from the people that were talking about. Id like to see that a little bit more. What i like to see is maybe that fancy new set we have in weather. Where darren is manning this morning. And hopefully weve got some nice temperatures on tap. Darren. We do. For today, were going to be below average. And were going to stay below average for like the whole 7 day forecast. But its not like we have a cold snap. Its not like its going to be cold. But the temperatures are going to struggle to get into the low 80s today. Lets start out by taking a look at the scene over the Santa Clara Valley. That is the view of the clear morning. Were not dealing with any marine layer. No fog out there and thats a transition. More regularly when we get into fall and we start saying to the marine layer as like an everyday feature for us. If we look at the visibility you can see for ten miles pretty much everywhere we go. Several different item we can put on here. One of which is to display where the fog is. But theres no fog this morning. The as a result for halfmoon bay is down to five miles. Thatd be pretty typical satellite is not even detecting fog out there. Nothing to show. But the visibility along the coast is always going to be a little bit lower, all right, thats the story on the map right now. Lets get to whats coming our way. By the time we get to saturday. Because thats become the headline in the forecast. Theres another weak little system coming our way thats going to try and deliver a little bit of rain. And its a fairly recent development in the forecast. Really over about the last 18 hours where the models are saying hey, it looks like this thing might try to bring you a little bit of light rain. Light showers there on friday in the longrange forecast and lets go to the longer range and now into saturday and you see what shows up here and just kind of in nebulous green blob. Which did not look that impressive yesterday at this time. So its a little too early on a forecast like this to go all in. That saturdays were going to have rain. One way is instead of looking at the one models depiction, were going to look at the enacceptable. This is all the models so were not just relying on one. And when theres a little bit of discrepancy, it is a safer route to go. Pretty light amounts of rain. 0. 1 of rain possible on saturday. That is i think the main takeaway from this would be we probably more than anything else, notice a cooldown for saturday. And if we get any rain it will be shortlived and wouldnt amount to much. Lets look at todays daytime highs. Where were looking at more clear skies than anything else today and numbers that are a little bit below average. So were doing a lot of 70s here across the bay. Well get into the low 80s for some spots through the north bay today. But as we come back into the heart of the bay, mainly 70s here and when we finish up the tour, checking in on the numbers for the south bay. Your temperatures are also going to be little below average for this time of year. All right, sew so in the 7 day forecast were going to spotlight saturday. Thats the day you see the temperatures take a bit of a dip. Also see the cloud increase a bit there. Didnt put rain in the 7 day forecast yet. Thats something well likely be adjusting here over probably the next 24 hours. Just to build a little more confidence and a little more agreement in the models. In terms of the rainfall actually coming together on saturday. And the 7 day forecast for the bay looks identical to what we just did for the inland microclimate except the numbers are a little bit low e. More on this coming up again in the next visit. For now gianna, back to you. All right, lets take a look at the roadways right now. We have quite a bit going on actually. Just getting up the morning getting ready to head out the door and making that trek through oakland, headsup. Theres some Police Activity on 580 eastbound. Where lanes are complete hi shut down between grand and macarthur. We called chp and not a lot of information just yet. But theyll let us know what is going on there. Its not a crash but some Police Activity here. Again, this is eastbound 580 between grand and macarthur all lanes shut down. In the meantime if you need to commute note through the area, you can always use 880 as an alternate route. That is m moving along southbound which would be parallel to eastbound 580. So southbound 880 is actually moving along okay for now. Through oakland if you want to use that as the alternate route. Northbound no delays. Working towards the bay bridge. Now over on 37, lets head to the north bay right now and i want to get to this as well because look at all this backup. That is a tough ride right now if you are headed on 37 both directions from 121 and sears point, theres a crash. Theres a pole down in the roadway. Theyve got a big problem there and trying to work on that and clear it but thats going to take some time. Use the richmondsan rafael bridge as the alternate route. Time right now 6 22. The niners are red hot and getting ready for sundays matchup with the cardinals. How wide receiver Jauan Jennings is actually getting ready. Plus our well, it was quite a run for the giants especially during the first half. But sadly, last nights game against the San Diego Padres eliminated them from playoff contention. But it was a strong outing from giants pitcher alex wood who lasted just under five innings with allowing a single run. So not too bad of an outing. But a couple of home runs and absolutely no run support killed any momentum of making a wild card spot. Padres pitcher lugo goes nearly nine whole innings. The final score padres 4, giants nada. Nothing. Giants look to hold back the padres from their slim playoff hopes today. That game is on tap for 6 45. Earlier last month Marcus Thompson of the atlantic reported the warriors and wnba are expected to finalize a deal to bring a franchise to the bay area. The team will play at chase center under the warriors operations and offices and practices would be at oaklands warriors facilities. Now the official announcement could come in the next couple of days. But thats really cool to hear. And the 49ers, well, they host the cardinals sunday at levis stadium and the defense might have a secret weapon. Vern glenn explains in this mornings red and gold report. Reporter the 49er defense will get their first look at cardinals quarterback joshua dobbs this sunday. But if they need any help preparing, they can always ask Jauan Jennings. Yeah, me and dobbs man, we great night, man. Great great memories. Reporter jennings and dobbs were College Teammates at tennessee. They connected on this hail mary to beat georgia back in 2016. But theyll be on opposite sides this week and jennings had some advice for the 49ers defense. I say take lays away from him. Thats what i say. As long as we can do that, i think we can take care of my man dobbs. Reporter dobbs has run for 93 yards this season. Fifth most by a quarterback. And hes also one of four quarterbacks that have started all three games and not thrown an interception. The others, cj stroud and Justin Herbert and brock purdy, who hasnt been picked off in 190 consecutive passes going back to last year. With the red and gold report, im vern glenn. Time now is 6 26. Right now on cbs news bay area at 6 30 in the morning, round two for republicans in seammy valley tonight for their debate as fen stromb is about to show you, once again donald trump wont be there as serve candidates square off. Hes her report. Reporter if you are wondering why the gop would host this primary debate here, thats because even with californias wellknown left lean, this state has more Republican Voters than any other. So just up this hill tonight, this will be taking place here as contenders for californias 169 delegates face off. Take a look. Crews have been busy preparing the Ronald Reagan library and performing security checks. The donate gets under way at 6 00 and hot topics expected to be immigration, a possible Government Shutdown, abortion, and frontrunner, former President Donald Trump who once again will skip the debate. Hell be in michigan following president bidens appearance there yesterday. As the automotive strike continues. As for who will be taking part, north dakota governor doug bergham and former new Jersey Governor Chris Christie and former South CarolinaGovernornikki Haley and former Vice President mike pence and South Carolina senator tim scott. They all met the heightened polling and fundraising standards and former arkansas governor didnt make the cut. The goal of the events to help whittle down the Playing Field for voters and in this case its essentially a battle to take on trump. Who remains dominant in early polling. A little insight here about how voters in early primary states say they have been learning about candidates. A cbs news poll of likely gop voters in iowa and New Hampshire suggest its largely been through ads on local tv followed by ads on social media and emails and texts. At the very bottom there, being contacted by volunteers. Police say they will be keeping watch throughout the neighborhood surrounding the library. Some demonstrations expected here. Back to you. And back home now. Good morning to our friends in oakland where First Responders worked hard all night fighting flames at the rotary Nature Center along late merit overnight. Look at the orange flames there at the waters edge. We understand this started just after shundown. The roof took most of the damage. So far no cause identified as crews worked a long night in case of flareups. Pit joe biden in the bay area this morning. He is in town campaigning for cash. But this morning, he will meet with his tech council. The president expected to preview a new Artificial Intelligence executive order designed to seize the opportunities and also manage the risks posted by ai. Later hell attend two campaign receptions. By the way last night, billionaire couple mark highsing and liz simons hosted a fundraiser for the president in atherton. Also in our state, governor gavin newsom signed two major gun bills into law aimed at safety and accountability. So heres what it means to you if you want to buy a gun, or ammunition in the state of california, you are going to have to pay double the tax. That money will pay for violence prevention programs and school safety. By the way a second bill bans you from carrying firearms in most Public Places including carrying a gun in public parks, churches, or anywhere alcohol is sold. Gun activists are expected to fight these moves all the way to the u. S. Supreme court. Something we all can agree on is the fact that it feels like fall outside. Yes, that is something we definitely will not argue this morning. And darren, i had a Pumpkin Spice latte yesterday. I did. I gave in. I had to. You did it. First one of the season, g. Yes. Yeah. Well, another thing that fits right in line with the changing of the seasons is, theres no marine layer out there this morning. Were looking at clear skies and that is the view behind me from the rooftop here but im going to show you one other here in a second. Sunrise coming up at 7 01. And were all going to be able to see it pretty easily. Heres the view from above the Santa Clara Valley. And thats the view of a morning where were not even looking at the low clouds, theres certainly no issues with fog out there. And the temperatures are starting to display a familiar pattern and im going to bring in the current numbers our virtual map of the bay down here and when i talk about a pattern, you will see it when we get to the north bay. Which is noticeably cooler today than everybody else. We hadnt done that all summer long. Everybody was doing the same number. But south bay mid and upper 50s down here and its closer to 60 though for the majority of us. 58 degrees in fremont. 55 in redwood city. And the number in San Francisco right now is 60 degrees. Look what happens when you go to the north bay. Santa rosa, numbers up there. Down to around 50. So we start out cool. But were all going to warm up to pretty much the same place. A lot of the inland spots today will be in the low 80s and most of the immediate bay like here in the city will be probably right around 70 to 71, 72. Saturdays interesting and im going to show you small chance of rain when we get back together again in the complete first alert forecast in just a few minutes. For now, gianna, hows the drive looking . Not so great this morning. Unfortunately we have a lot to get to as you hit the freeways. If you are making that ride over towards 580, we are getting word from chp of Police Activity. No official confirmation yet on whats causing this closure. This is eastbound 580 between grand and macarthur boulevard. A Traffic Alert has been issued and all lanes are closed eastbound 580. Westbound lanes are open. So you can still travel through that area. But looks like this closure will be in effect for just a bit. Use 808 in the meantime as an alternate. Well, San Francisco could soon rip a page from new york citys traffic handbook and ban drivers from turning right on red citywide. Supervisor dean preston officially put the proposal on the table last night. He represents the tenderloin, where rights on red have actually been banned since 2021. The sfmta says its paid off most drivers comply and theres been a sharp drop in close calls involving pedestrians. Prestons resolution basically just asks the agency to look into the feasibility of a citywide ban. Reed . Time now 6 36 in the morning. Meta and Virtual Reality. After more than three years of covid related reprieves, federal student loan borrowers need to resume payments starting october 1st. Thats coming very soon. So cbs News Business analyst Jill Schlesinger is here to tell us how to prepare. Hi jill, in june, the Supreme Court ruled against the president s plan to forgive billions in Student Loans. Has anything changed since then . Reporter yes, something big. The Biden Administration announced a new income driven repayment plan. Its called the s. A. V. E. Plan. This plan helps borrowers who have direct federal Student Loans that are in Good Standing who are having financial difficulties. Heres how it works. Monthly payments for s. A. V. E. Are based on the borrowers current monthly income and the size of the borrow earest family. This is a valuable feature if your income went down in the past few years. And also for those who have actually started having kids during the past three and a half years. So jill, what else is notable about this plan that we should know . Reporter the treatment of interest is really interesting. If dare i say that. If your regular payment does not cover the interest thats owed at the time of payment, unpaid interest is automatically erased under s. A. V. E. Also a single borrower and you earn less than 15 an hour, if you are enromed in the save program. You will not have to make any paymentings. One last thing. If you have an original principal loan balance of 12,000 or less, you will receive forgiveness of any balance after making ten years of payments. So these are valuable, especially for people whose income has gone down. I mean definitely worth looking into. I think Something Else consumers considering Student Loan Relief companies. Are they worth it . Reporter probably not. You know, the federal trade commission recently issued a warning. They remind borrowers that you dont have to pay for any help managing your Student Loans. You can just go to studentaid. Gov. They cite a couple of big red flags. One is if someone is trying to charge you up front before theyve done anything. Another one, the promise of quick loan forgiveness. Thats a pipe dream. If you spot a scam, please report it to the ftc. At reportfraud. Ftc. Gov. All right, Jill Schlesinger thank you so much as always. Makes me feel empowered in the morning and always get a todo list. Its wired wednesday and today is all about meta and their 2023 meta connect event. All eyes are on the ai race and what this tech giant will bring to the table with their latest product. Its called the meta quest 3. Headset. And joining us to give us more insight on this two day event is Senior Reporter for market watch john schwartz. How lucky not on zoom. Although we can take you in a Virtual Reality headset we understand. We can all meet in the newsroom and immerse the future. It really does make you think how that could one day actually happen. Tole us a little bit about meta 3s and what we can expect. What Mark Zuckerberg is going to talk about kind of the immersive world that he wants us to join him in. Over avatars where shopping, where playing games, were getting our news and were communicating with each other. Kind of an extension of what facebook has done. Its kind of almost an ahab like obsession of his to pivot the world to this immersive world that involves socialize. Its going to lead to collision with apple which is going to be very interesting because these two companies hate each other. Drama on the tech front. Maybe the president will have to get involved. And we know the President Joe Biden is in town today hes going to be meeting with tech experts. Theres that conversation balancing the possibility. The potentiality of ai. With what could really be what elon musk even has said. Could be dangerous. Yeah, there was that meeting, theres ai forum that schumer had last week. Actually i talked with the cso. The former chief Security Officer of facebook who left after the 2016 election. He left a couple of years later. But he is really concerned about the 2024 election. And what ai would mean in terms of trolling and in terms of accumulating misinformation. He said it would hyperboost and put misinformation on steroids with the addition of ai. In a sent, thats kind of a achilles heel for facebook or meta. Whatever you want to call them. They are being i dont know. Ill be fair about this. Theyve been questioned about their security and their privacy. Apple does that. Apples front and center questioning meta and whether we should trust them. And you know, they actually been alluded to as big tobacco by marc benioff. Theres this whole kind of battle line going on and the thing is, with apple when they come into the market they wait for a market to be established. And once they do get in the market, they control it. So meta quest vr headset 3 is metas last chance to really get ahead of this market. Before apple jumps in with the vision pro next year. Also think from a perspective of consumers how much is this going to cost . It seems like especially if you have kids or teenagers who are are really interested in getting involved in the headset asks having that capability. Its going to cost you. Yeah, with the version 2 was dropped to 300. Its pretty competitively priced. The vision pro from apple is 3,500. Which is what you expect from apple a premium price. Whats interesting in this race between the two companies, theres a reflection of the ceos. You have got Mark Zuckerberg whos kind of like this Mad Scientist who wants to break things and reinvent things and on the other side you have apple with tim cook. Very steady. Thats why you know, five years now will be talking about the iphone 20 announcement. Right . Like very little change and what they do. But they like meta are motivated to get into the market. Thats where the development is and the money is and they are overseeing franchise products that are a little bit in decline in terms of sales. Like social media is not as many people. Im not spending as much time on facebook as i used to and not spending any time on threads. New territory. Right. You know when you see this environment of competition, you know that can stim late economic growth. Thats what we need for a bay area bounceback. Thank you so much for having this conversation and by the way let the viewers know you can go on the website, kpix. Com and see some of arrivism reality work. Go to kpix. What does it look like . Our virtual map of the bay. Which has all of the highly detailed specifics on the topography and it really helps us pull out the details on how the bay is experiencing this day differently from one climate to the other. Before i put the numbers for vick on here, look at the view in mount diablo looking over the inland east bay for contra costa. The lights are coming on there in concord. As a consequence of that also very little fog. Thats a sign of fall. We start to get into the year, the marine layer is not a big factor for us. The visibility readings, theyre great down in the south bay you can see for ten miles and you can see for ten miles in livermore. To the north bay where theres one minor little drop in the number there for petaluma. The number on the visibility is gone down just a little bit. No clouds streaming in up there through that petaluma gap. But the visibility is reduced a little bit but you are fine on the roadways and you can see for miles. Lets get into the story of how things are going to change by the time we get to saturday. That has quickly become the most interesting part of the forecast. So well leave behind that real pretty view from mount diablo. The pacific has reorganized itself. Its throwing weather systems towards the west coast now. And the next one is going to try and get here on saturday. Watch. This is different than the way the forecast looked even yesterday. We get a few blobby green showers over california on saturday. Two ways to look at this. Thats one run. Thats one model run from the american model. And its too son on this to trust one run. What were going to do is look at the accumulated rainfall for saturday. Using the ensemble and its not nearly as impressive as that widespread green would have you believe. Those are very small numbers and were talking about the potential for maybe a tenth of an inch of rain and thats saturday. So early on this we have not put rain in the 7 day forecast yet. Give this more time to remain consistent before we jump on board 100 . But i want you to see that because it is an interesting change regardless of whether we get the light rain or not. We are going to cool down. And weve already kind of been cool if you look at the daytime highs for today, these are below average. You should be sitting well into the mid 80s here. Santa rosa you are going to 81 today. If we come down to the heart of the bay and check on the numbers here, also a few degrees below average with these numbers. Not as drastic as the inland valleys. But you are still cooler tha average. To the south bay, same story. San jose you actually are warming up to average and just to finish up the tour, here are your daytime highs for the inland part of the bay today. The 7 day forecast now. And were going to start out with the inland microclimates. And while you see the numbers over here low to mid80s. Heres the cooldown. Saturday, the clouds increasing a bit and theres a small chance of rain there. Not enough that we put it in the 7 day forecast. And just around ill show you one more 7 day forecast and do this now for the bay. And the numbers obviously a little lower as they always are. But that chance of rain also not big enough yet to go on saturday but you see the cloud increases and the temperatures come down a little bit. Well probably get a bit breezy and its good news story because we could be looking at offshore wind events at this time of year and its definitely not one of those. Its the opposite thankfully. Back to you. All right, darren. Taking a look at the roadways right now. If youre getting ready to head out the door we have a Traffic Alert unfortunately that is slowing things down this morning. Along 580. Police activity and were just getting new information from chp. They think this is caused from a possible shooting. An investigation under way there. Doesnt sound like anyone was hurt. They are headed out there to see whats going on in the meantime they have the lanes shut down that investigation under way. And its certainly going to be closed for quite some time. This is eastbound 580 in oakland between grand and macarthur boulevard. So right in that area as you head along eastbound 580. So westbound is a commute direction. Thats open. You can still utilize westbound 580. But theres a lot of Police Presence on the eastbound side and those lane closures, use 880 as an alternate route. That is moving along very well in both directions if you want to not take 580 use southbound 880 instead. Things are moving along pretty well through. Also got this big problem on highway 37. So consider using the richmondsan rafael bridge in the meantime. If you are headed along 37, both directions from 121 arnold drive to sears point road there. The roadway is blocked due to a crash. There was also a pole down in the roadway blocking lanes. So thats causing a lot of brake lights there in both directions. Hey everyone. Thank you. Woohoo. Talk about inspiring.
