The pilot was the only one on board and was not injured. Now to the almost incredible story of the weekend. Southern california gearing up for heavy rains and flash flooding as hurricane hilary continues to spin up the pacific coast. By the time it makes landfall it will be a Tropical Storm. And if those characteristics hold in california it will be something the state has not seen in 83 years. Bulldozers in Orange County are pushing sand up beaches to protect against surging surf. 120 miles inland people are sandbagging in palm springs to keep the desert homes dry. In san diego, the u. S. Navy is sending its ship out to sea to wait out the storm before coming back to shore. Californias Emergency Response expecting widespread Power Outages in the south land and in the inland deserts, massive flooding and mudslides. In areas that could receive two years worth of rain in a day. Make no mistake. This is a very, very dangerous and significant storm. Femas office in the south land mobilizing resources and preparing emergency shelters for anybody who might be displaced by the on coming storm. Theyre all going to feel it but some places are going to get hit exceptionally harder than others down there and im going to show you who. But we now have the update to the forecast from. This this is live. A lot of thunderstorms going on in northern california. None of that is hurricane hilary. On monday morning some of the leftovers will get here. Its going to be in the form of rain. If we watch the futurecast look at that tonight. This is the first chance for rain. Its actually going to be real limited and its coming to the inland east bay tonight in the later hours between say 9 00 and midnight. Most of us wont see anything but if you happen to hear thunder or see a stray strike of lightning, thats not hillary. Thats the complex of thunderstorms that are already here for another reason. More on that later. Here comes the possibility of leftovers from hurricane hilary. It might look like the same mess of green, monday morning through monday afternoon and theres a chance we get some rain out of this. In hawaii, 114 people are now confirmed dead in the maui wildfires. State officials expect that number to rise as search crews comb through the ashes in lahaina. More than 1,000 people are still missing and at this point, about 60 of the disaster area is now been searched. As for the cause, theyre investigating whether power lines might have started the fire. And as they do their investigating, lahaina nate is look to rebuild. Keeping their culture in mind. Hawaii governor josh green promising the community will not be lost. Let me be clear. Lahaina belongs to its people. And we are committed to rebuilding and restoring it the way they want it. President biden and the first lady will go to maui on monday to have a firsthand look and to meet with residents. Back home, families of seven homicide victims in Alameda County held a rally at the oakland courthouse this afternoon. Showing support for the recall of District Attorney pamela price. Da lin talked to one family thats demanding justice. Reporter the victims families say pamela price should work for the public d. Ers office because they claim she fights for the criminals rather than the victims. Like the life is priceless. Reporter anna says she is still fighting for justice even though the teen who killed her son has already taken a plea deal. And is serving time. As a mother looking at that with that one. Thats why im reaching out to the District Attorney to listen to this. Reporter seven years and juvenile detention. For the murder of rain hart. Investigators say it was road rage the killing happened last year in san lorenzo. They said this juvenile, they insist this juvenile and they insist juvenile but they have murdered. Reporter prosecutors say the teenager who killed rain hart was 17 years old at the time. That same teenager is also a suspect in the killing of twobrothers at a house Party Last Year in oakland. Jayz and angel garcia. Thats one of the fears the suspects will get seven years as well when we believe this is not a seven year sentence. This should be life. Reporter the family jayz and angel along with other families joined the rally. They want justice and accountability. I feel pain in my heart. I feel that were not being respected as the victims family. Reporter the families accuse pamela price of being soft on crime. They want her out. If you dont speak out, its going to happen again. Reporter rain hart was 30 years and had gotten married four month before the shooting and anna says while shell never get her son back she wants to make sure it doesnt happen to another family. Hurricane season starts really taking off when fire season also starts hitting its peak. Smoke inundations and hurricanes both at the same time. Im going to start with smoke. The High Resolution forecast on this and you see the deep shades of red on here in complex of fires in northwest california and they were lightning sparked several days ago. Air quality advisory tomorrow but heres why monday might be a bigger issue with this. Weve played this ahead all the way into monday morning and by then, you are watching the flow in the atmosphere corral and condense that plume of smoke. Pull it down here so the onshore flow on monday then pulls it into the bay. So thats one early headsup on this. Weve already got our first air quality advisory issued for tomorrow and there likely will be more as we go into this week as long as the smoke keeps getting directed our way. The thunderstorms i mentioned that are going on across the state are not related the hurricane hilary yet. These are here on their own. Come out for the wide view, lets take a look at hurricane hilary and kind of get the story first. Well bring in the big picture and now you can see all the stuff down here. Thats hurricane hilary. Not this stuff. That is just to get the update on hurricane hilary. At last check, still a hurricane. Were going to put the updated information on here in one second. You can see it starting to lose a little bit of its formation. You dont really see that beautiful eyewall anymore. So hillary is weakening. At this point, still technically a category 2 hurricane sitting off the coast of baja. But thats because its down here with all this really ridiculously warm ocean water and deeper shades of red and warmer the water. The more fuel to strengthen these things. Look up here. Much cooler. Thats why we rarely ever see these things but this one is getting some help in terms of steering. Bottom line is it falls apart by tomorrow, this is a Tropical Storm. Before it even gets to california its already downgraded to a Tropical Storm. But its going to stay Tropical Storm from there as it rakes across Southern California. We really have been able to narrow that cone of uncertainty. You can see the forecast track all the stuff in red show us where the likelihood is for the center of the thing to go. Weve pretty much narrowed that down. Thats why the National Weather service has put most of Southern California under a Tropical Storm warning. Heres what it looks like. When do the bigger rain bands get here . Theres the start. But we start to see a little more widespread as we go into sunday morning. Really its sunday morning. Through sunday evening. And while everybody is going to get rain, and everybody will feel some wind. This is a story farm more significantly for the deserts. If you got friends or family who live in coastal Southern California, whether its san diego, Orange County or l. A. A lot of rain and probably have some street flooding. They might get some downed branches in the neighborhood. But the pictures were probably going to see on monday and tuesday will be coming from over here. These are the places that are going to get historic amounts of rain like theyve never seen before on the record. Places like death valley. Inland imperial county. Those are the places where this really is the biggest concern. Now if we want to get the idea for whats driving all this and why weve got thunderstorms today, see that little spin in the clouds there . Thats an area of low pressure sitting off our coast, thats the little piece of energy thats not only giving us the thunderstorms we have now, but its also acting to steer the atmosphere in such a way along with this big center of High Pressure over here, that hillary now has a lane to go right between the two. Thats a very rare setup. Thats why this is happening is because you have got that unique setup in the atmosphere where the two can drive hillary right up into Southern California. And in terms of our chance of rain here we talked about this at the top of the newscast. Right here. That would be monday morning. If were going to see any rain from hillary, its like first half of monday. Could have an occasional thunderstorm mixed in it but it will be limited and it wont be the kind of thing that brings damage. It will just be kind of interesting. And monday morning would be the most likely. Monday morning and monday afternoon will be the most likely time frame for that. There are the daytime highs tomorrow still kind of hot and in the 7 day forecast, notice how the temperatures come down for the middle of the week. Once we get past the excitement of whatever hillary is going to bring us on monday. You can see the occasional strike of lightning on there. We cool down for tuesday and then warm back up again. Mccaffrey when you think about christian, what is it about him that makes him so talented and special . I think that hes electrifying and explosive. The guy can catch the ball out of the back field and you know when mccaffrey has the ball. Every play you hold your breath and anticipate a big play. In a passing game hes so fast the linebackers cant cover him and too physical for safeties. Hes a mismatch for defenses. So i love everything about the guy. How imperative is it that theyve got the younger guys learning from him . I mean, its very imperative because he practiced like a pro. I mine im not going to compare him but hes Something Like ladainian tomlinson. How fast and quick and nimble he was but hes a pro. Watching extra film and showing guys how to be a leader. Thats what you need especially from the state of the union stars like mccaffrey. Fun toe watch Christian Mccaffrey and another guy hes not vying for a roster spot. Come out and do what he did last week against the raiders. Just stay consistent. He had the confidence and three step dropped and he understands and its a trust issue. So he trusts his guys and trey lance, hes got all the athletic ability and he has to just trust himself and let the ball go and thats where hes struggling at. Not the athletic ability. Early on in that game too. What do you want to see from the defense . Its a preseason game but 34 points was a lot last week against the raiders. You want to see i have to tell you and theres a guy they expect more out of him. Thats ken law. A big guy in the middle and he has to understand hes going to get double teamed and those trade blocks and ace blocks where theyre trying to scoop him and h move him.
