Were expecting 90s and plenty of sunshine the share. Gianna . You know, jess, im going to take a page out of your forecast here and boar that live look at the Golden Gate Bridge for traffic here because it is nice to see the span. We havent really seen much of it lately. Not looking too bad. Your drive out of the area marin county so far, so good. Just a headsup. That doesnt mean you are out of the woods completely when it comes to the fog. Heading into San Francisco and daly city we have some fog there. A hotspot in the south bay on highway 17. More on that coming up. Time for a look at this mornings other top stories. We head to san jose where a Police Officer is in critical but stable condition. She was shot yesterday while responding to a Domestic Violence call. The wife of the suspect, 44yearold gabrielle coo reraise called 911 yesterday morning saying he was drunk and tried to hit her. Cal fire says the fire is 40 contained. Following up on the fires in maui this morning. As we know, california helpers have boots on the ground once again as the sun rises in maui. 110 people now confirmed dead. This morning that community is doubling down on tough questions about what they did and dont do when the fire started and in fact weve pulled this sound and listen to the Tense Exchange with a reporter and someone from hawaiis Emergency Management system. Do you regret not sounding the sirens . I do not. And the reason why so many people said they could have been saved if they had time to escape. Had a siren gone off, they would have known that there was a crisis emerging. And as we know, so and bodies were found in the ground as the flames you want me to give you the answer . I do but i want to let it out there. Let him finish his answer. Im sorry. So out of that exchange, came a little bit of counterpoint. That man went on to explain that the sirens are primarily used for tsunamis to warn people to get to Higher Ground with water coming in shore. Well, the worry was at the time when the fire started that if they sounded those sirens, people would have actually went uphill towards the fire instead of getting away from it. We know that people went towards the water in this case regardless theyve tested it and some of the sirens at the time werent even working. To my knowledge, at least i never experienced them in use for fires, but the sirens, some were broken. And were investigating that. So this morning, we have this new video of people showing us the many reasons that californians are seeing this and stepping forward to give some help. These are the people of lahaina. Theyre going in for the first time right now to see what the fires did to their homes. Quite emotional. Watch this. Is this the first time you are seeing this . Yeah. Its hard. Its hard to take in. We grew up here. This is home to a lot of us. Make me cry. Make me cry. And now over 20 years i stay in my house. Theres hope. Lahaina will get back. You know, you heard her say theres hope. And this is a symbol of hope this morning for all of us. If you have been to maui you have likely taken a photo under this 150yearold banyan tree. Its the oldest and its the largest and its a treasure in the Hawaiian Islands. So what are the people of maui doing while so many are still missing and while many have lost lives and everything they own . Theyre standing there to water this tree. Believing in the hope that a little care brings life. And this is your chance to join in the conversation. If you have a foe stow from your vacations under the famous banyan tree. Tweet it with the kpix. California helpers are there boots on the ground and tragedy is really informing how people can rebuild in maui. We all remember this. The camp fire. Well, get this. People there are now turning their pain into purpose raising money for maui. In fact. Listen to april boots on the ground right here where we live doing something to help. Gosh, i mean, just like everybody else the camp fire was devastating. Theyre a community that is very strong. And we can help them financially. And help them to rebuild in the way that they need to rebuild. And i think its very, very important that we let them tell us what they need. There we can. The two words really openpossibilities and were your community station. Were going to see and celebrate you. Case in point, more good work happening for maui in north beach. Live now to shawn chitnis. You have a reminder we can all do good in our communities when we see a need. Reporter hey guys, good morning. Yeah. This is a great opportunity for people here in our area to support the effort thats happening on maui and you have a couple of different ways to make donations show that you care and help out the relief work as well as really help the families in need right now. So we are here at the location for the International Union for the long shore and Warehouse Union and they are the ones that have organized this e effort and so what theyre doing is they are collecting a lot of money. Theyve had their board pledge a lot of money as well as their local chapters. Were talking about tens of thousands of dollars thats already been collected and then specifically here at this location in San Francisco, theyre using a container that was actually gifted by a shipping company from hawaii. And theyre going to start to put in donations that they can eventually send over there. Theyre looking for Hygiene Products as well as items for babies like diapers and wipes. And then theyll also have a way for you to pledge money if you want to. So if you are looking to make a donation and come down to this location, heres the details that you need to know. We are here in north beach. Theyre starting at 6 00 a. M. And theyll go until 8 00 p. M. Tonight. This is the corner of mason and north point streets. And while they already started this effort earlier in the week theyre going to go through friday. So you have plenty of time to make those donations today and tomorrow. And then coming up in our next half hour, were actually going to hear from someone at the union to talk a little bit more about the effort. What theyve collected and what more they may want and why this is so important for them. Well be here throughout the morning and have more for you at 6 00 a. M. Guys, back to you. Thank you so much shawn. Looking forward to seeing that. Theres hope when you see people donating goods. And that container being donated. Yeah. I had a chance to interview jane fonda at the start of pride and she says where theres action thats hope. Just get busy helping somebody else put a little action behind it. Always a good reminder too. I think just being here in california just heard from people from paradise what theyre doing. We know what its like to be a part of the wildfires and how many people are in need. Just like that. Just like that. Your whole life changes so its good to see the Community Rallying and helping everyone in hawaii. Look for the helpers. All right, Bridge Builders in our community, we know you are creating pathways to help kids get jobs after they graduate. As the bay area goes back to school, the growing trend offering a li welcome back. This morning we celebrate Bridge Builders in our community with a focus on a teacher. For chris wood its a mission to open up jobs after graduation for the students he loves. Heres lauren toms. Reporter chris wood is dusting off the shop at john o condition ill high school preparing for the new school year ahead. Its his 12th year leading the Construction Trades Program after decades getting his hands and boots dirty as a contractor. I never thought id be a teacher. This shop is kind of my happy spot. Reporter and this year, his goal is to place five students directly into a career path after graduation. At the beginning of the year you know seven or eight want to. By the end of the year when they realize that construction is actually work. Its hard work, like you sweat. And you know, if you dont like sweating and getting dirty, and working hard, its not for you. Reporter but he has a long road ahead. On average, about two of his students join the San Franciscocarpentry union with an agreement with the high school to accept woods courses as their accreditation. They vetted my curriculum and i adapted much of it from their curriculum they use from their program. They get direct San Francisco. Thats the crown jewel of this program is the agreement with the carpenters. Reporter becoming increasingly popular across the country while high cost College Enrollments are shrinking. Construction programs have seen a nearly 20 increase in student enrollment since 2020. While culinary and me canal trades saw roughly 12 increase each highlighting a spike in interest among Young Students to pursue a career in trades over college. For the kid that really knows he wants to be in it. This is home. Every student in my pathway by the time they graduate can use pretty much a framing carpenters tool kit. Reporter chase corcoran has hired several of woods students himself. He says hes seeing more students choosing to go directly into a career path to save money and start working sooner. It helps fast track things and so a student that knows how to use some of the basic tools and then ultimately knows that they want to get into a trade. Gives them a jump. Reporter but theres Something Special about the student he is places from woods courses. A heightened spark of motivation. So getting kids that grew up in the community. That want to go to work in their community. Is huge for us. Reporter back in the woods shop, chris prepares materials for a project he says students will get to work on day one. Once were there, and everybody that comes in this pathway came to this school to be in this pathway, you know, the hard work is done. You know, the boards out and right kids are showing up. Reporter eager to welcome his students back and see a years worth of growth and potential ahead. Theres so important. Well, College Enrollment has decreased about 4 in recent years. A four Year College Degree is still valuable. Studies show that people who obtain a bachelors degree have a much higher earning potential at an average of 84 than those with a high school or associates degree. I love seeing the trades. Yeah. I feel like you were a carpenter in a past life. You know. Or maybe a current one. Proud to say im the grandson of a carpenter. And the son of a lineman. I know the power of and the necessity we all need these hands to create our society. Right . Some people are just good at this stuff. My husband did this very something very similar right out of high school into college. And it ended up working for nasa and now works for stanford. I think it really leads to very, very cool and interesting careers. Opening up pathways i love it. Hows the Kitchen Remodel going for you . He can build anything. Im not kidding. Someone else that can do anything. Our own jessica birch. Jessica, good morning to you. Good morning to you guys and im not sure if you have noticed in the neighborhoods but its kind of been muggy recently. The big reason why . We have all the leftovers from Tropical Storm eugene that area of low pressure still parked offshore kind of bringing in all these light showers. Especially up into the sierra tahoe area, i was flying there last night and just kind of dodging left and right some storms over there. Continuing that this morning. But back here in the bay were kind of getting a little bit of a break. Its nice, take a look at futurecast real fast. Back here in the bay the only thing we have is just the marine layer this morning. Dont get me wrong theres still a chance of light, light showers associated with this marine layer. Take a look at futurecast when it comes to the models throughout the next couple of days well see if anything about 0. 01 of rain just along the coastline and potentially even into the Santa Clara Valley and raining all the way up into santa rosa. So were not ruling that out just yet. Believe it or not, were actually not even going to rule it out heading into next week as another Tropical Storm starting to develop down south just past mexico. Thats in a second but thats the reason why were kind of keeping sunday, monday and tuesday in that low percentage. This is the storm im tracking about actually hurricane now. Hurricane hillary starting to gain strength as we head into the next couple ofdis and this is tracking to the north. Whats interesting about this system, which i love so much, is as it tracks north, temperatures at the sea surface level start to get a lot cooler closer to california. So you see it gain strength. Just heading into saturday even into sunday, and then it starts to lose its energy getting closer to baja, california. By the time it goes up to california. In all honesty just going to be seeing some clouds and some leftover systems just like what were seeing right now. With Tropical Storm eugene offshore. Thats going to happen next week and lets take it a step back. Daytime highs today, for everyone heading out the door this morning into this afternoon, were expecting 80s in the Santa Clara Valley. Another beautiful mild day for us. Yes, still a little bit muggy and i can even feel it right now but heading into this afternoon, were expecting 90s off near brentwood and quite the contrast as we head along our coastline. San francisco today sitting at 70 degrees. Lets take a look at the next seven days and not a lot of changes in the forecast for San Francisco. If anything were going to start seeing more dense clouds in the models heading into next monday and tuesday. Like i said thanks to that Tropical Storm thats still developing. Hurricane now i should say actually. In the north bay, 80s flirting with the upper 70s this afternoon. Into the next couple of days. With 90s and 80s flirting back and forth for our friends over into the inland east bay. A beautiful forecast for now and im going to send it over to you, gianna. You know, i agree with you. What you mentioned earlier it felt a little muggy this morning as i got up and out the door. A little yesterday too. I can see that happening. All right, taking a look at the roadways, a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge, its not too bad. Weve been talk about the fog last couple of days. But yoand out the door. A little yesterday too. I can see that happening. All right, taking a look at the roadways, a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge, its not too bad. Weve been talk about the fog last couple of days. But you know what . It is bearable going across the span. In fact just tracking the brake lights there headed out of marin its not bad. Its moving along just fine and in fact are there any cars that are traveling across in span . Theres one person heading northbound which is even countercommute. There are people out there but obviously a good fulltime to be on the roadway making the marin county commute. Live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights are not on just yet. And so far we are seeing things getting a little crowded. That extra volume certainly happening for anyone making that ride over into the city. But on a scale of 1 to 5 still sitting at about a 1. No delays, pretty nice heading into the city right now. Look at the green. I love delivering good news when you see green on the maps that means its pretty nice for most of the freeways. 880 all clear. 101. No issues there. 92. San mateo bridge moving along just fine. There was a crash north 17 at bear creek. Thats in the clearing stages. No delays there as you head in and out of the Santa Cruz Mountain area. Well, its 5 21. We are keeping an eye on those qbs ahead of the niners second preseason game right here on cbs. A California Community using its own pain to help hawaii. We go to the town of paradise and see how theyre doing five years after the camp fire. We know the way to san jose. In fact, downtown, good morning, everybody. Lights on and sun about to come up and we wish you all a great day. Our neighbors in san jose. G . Now i want to sing that. Do you know the way to san jose. How about to santa clara . Right, the 49ers return to levis stadium saturday night for their second preseason game against the Denver Broncos and vern glenn has more in today red and gold report. Reporter the question on everyones mind before saturdays preseason game will brock purdy play . Well, well have to keep waiting. Kyle shanahan told reporters he has not decided yet. Now trey lance will be out there against the broncos. Every rep counts right now for lance. As he battles with sam darnold for the backup job. Shanahan wants his young quarterback to ignore all those who have been critical of lance during camp. George kittle remains sidelined with a groin injury and wont suit up on saturday. But chances are, kittle will be available for the faithful. Nobody spends more time signing autographs during camp than the peoples tight end. You have probably signed a lot of unusual stuff. You are not wrong. Reporter did you see tj watt the steelers . He signed a baby. You ever signed a baby . A couple. Reporter really . No, people are just like hey will you take my baby . Im like maam, i dont think it works like that but yes, ill take your baby. Thank you for the child and i take a couple of steps away too make them freak out a little bit. I have signed toasters before because claytonson signed a toaster that one time. I love niners fans they send crazy stuff sometimes and i have signed a bunch of wild stuff. Signing brock purdy little football cards and i was like hey im not brock and they were like its okay. Reporter with the red and gold report. Im vern glenn. But we should note George Kittles hat. Very cute. Very cute. The broncos are at levis stadium for saturdays preseason game. You will only see it here on kpix 5 at 5 30. Along with the final preseason matchup with the chargers on friday, august 25th. All right, time now 5 26 in the morning. As bay area helpers do what we all can do for maui, the people who live in the ashes going home to see what survived. At the same time some tough questions about systems that were down when they were needed the very most to warn folks there. Well take you live to maui coming up. Plus this looks like fun. But its serious business. Coming up, your community station watching the community of maui. We can tell you this morning there are at least 111 confirmed deaths from the wildfires that ripped through the Hawaiian Island last week especially the lahaina corridor. County officials there are facing tough questions this morning over what they could have done to warn residents as the fires raged and potentially save lives. Cbs reporter Danya Bacchus is joining us live from maui right now where survivors are getting a first look at the homes. These pictures are so emotional. Reporter you are right. And residents of lahaina havesaw the devastation firsthand. This is happening as officials defend their decision not to sound sirens during the fire. Do you regret not sounding the sirens . I do not. Reporter maui efficients on the defensive, as questions grow over why sirens werent used to warn residents last week when the deadly wildfire swept in. Have you sounded the siren that night, were afraid that people would have gone loca and if that was the case, then they would have gone into the fire. Reporter the death toll is still climbing as search teams comb through charred debris to find the hundreds who were missing. 38 of the territory has been covered. The capacity is increasing continuously to make sure that we can go to every corner of the disaster site. Reporter the lahaina bypass road is now open so residents can drive home. Though some have already made the journey on foot. Its hard. Its hard to take in. You know . Just seeing all this devastation. Make me cry. Over 20 years i stay in my house. Reporter President Biden is expected to tour devastated communities and meet with First Responders here on maui monday. Some residents say they hope his visit calls attention to the need for more aid. Im very hopeful that him coming in will help expedite a lot of products coming in. Reporter any positive coming our way . Well take it. Reporter donations continue to pour in and fema officials are encouraging those who have been affected by the wildfires to apply for federal assistance. And we do know that this is going to be a long and hard road to recovery here. But there are some signs of progress being made. Public schools have started the process of reopening and weve been told at least three schools in lahaina were able to fight off the flames. Reed . Wow. Takes a community. And speaking of community, we know so many in maui are getting ready for President Bidens visit. How will that bring a little bit of hope . Reporter well, the hope is from some residents that him coming to town will actually help in aid efforts, that there will be some more aid given to people here as you can imagine theres still a strong need for basic necessities. Clothing, shelter, baby diapers, baby formula. So people are hoping that with the president s visit, that there will be more aid and that they will have some more hope when it comes to recovery. Now i have to say your work there is so important. We appreciate you being up so early this morning. You are bringing the stories home to us and were starting to see a Community Response here as well. So you and maui are a part of a very big effort thats touching lives here. Thank you so much. All right, so what do we do with all of that . How can we respond . Your community station in the community this morning. With some north beach Bridge Builders. At least for what we can see i mean this is a live look from the Treasure Island cam overlooking the city skyline. A little fog this morning as we wake up and current temperatures in the heart of San Francisco in the upper 50s already. Were sitting in the upper 60s just near livermore and were going to warm up lot later into this afternoon off into the inland east bay. Lets take a quick look over into san jose. Where later into this afternoon, were actually going to be sitting in the 80s. Its a beautiful forecast for us this afternoon. Were still in the 60s for now. So grab the jacket before you head out the door with that coffee. But once we head into the afternoon hours, were going the see lot for sunny skies and more mild temperatures this afternoon. Lets head today across the bay. Well fix that later. Upper 60s in the forecast anywhere from the coast off into the bay. Dense clouds still kind of holding on tight along our coastline. But later into this afternoon, were going to see plenty of sunshine into the inland east bay. With low 90s on average. Anywhere from napa all the way down into the east bay and even into the Santa Clara Valley. We have some big changes in the forecast around the corner later this week and ill have more on that in a bit but for now, over to you g. A bridge check this morning. If anyone is waking up getting ready to make that ride across the bay bridge now is a good time to be on the freeways. This is the advantage right . You dont deal with a lot of traffic. Golden gate bridge, that might be settling in just a little bit with the more as the morning progresses so just be careful. Visibility could be an issue across the span. Time now for a look at this mornings top stories. A texas woman was arrested after she threatened to kill the judge overseeing former president trumps 2020 election interference case. The woman is accused of calling judge Tonya Chutkin on august 5th saying shell kill anyone who goes after trump and also threatened to kill texas congresswoman among others. Shes being held in detention pending trial with the bond hearing set for september 13th. Covid19 levels are on the rise according to federal surveillance data. The relatively low right now but we could see an increase as fall approaches. The centers for Disease Control and prevention says covid hospitalizations have been climbing since early july. They also report roughly 1 of hospital beds in u. S. Inpatient and intensive care units are currently covid patients. And the head coach of the u. S. Womens soccer team Vlatko Andonovski has reportedly resigned. This comes after the u. S. Was eliminated by sweden from the world cup in round of 16. They lost in the penaltyshootout fit you can remember. He was named the ninth coach for the team in 2019. He won his first 11 games as led coach. Gianna . All right, nicole. Being a scientist could seem boring to some people and maybe sitting in a lab analyzing data. But wait until you meet these researchers. They ride atvs around San Franciscos ocean beach. You can see it happening right there. Kenny choi tells us not just fun, its an effort to fight climate change. Reporter Daniel Hoover and a team at the United States Geological Survey are mapping ocean beach. Its one of the most studied beached by the agency because of how quickly its changing. Using atvs equipped with scientific grade gps devices, the machines collect data. Red line is great highway and cliff house is out here. We use this to keep track of where weve been to make sure the line density is adequate. Reporter that data is used to generate 3d maps to show how far the beach being pushed back by rising sea levels and the depth of the sand is accurate to one inch. These data that were collecting today will help us understand how great were doing with those models and how they can be finetuned and improved going forward. Reporter helps City Planners counter erosion impacts on neighborhoods and facilities like this Treatment Plant at the south end of ocean beach. Crews have built massive sand berms and rock walls to protect the aging structure. If erosion were to eat in and under the road, and cause the pipe to rupture, would leak raw sewage into the ocean. The data help them know do they need to do more emergency measures which theyve already done to try to protect the pipe. Reporter scientists predict a moderate to possibly extreme el nino winter. Where high wave energy can wreak havoc causing massive flooding and other problems. El nino is kind of the big bully in terms of beach erosion. Reporter in fact, the last el nino winter of 2015 and beginning of 2016 is in the top three in 150 years of recordkeeping. The concern is what could be around the corner after strong impacts from just a year ago. Got hit pretty hard last winter and starting from a relatively depleted state. So areas that would have wanted more buffer wont have them this year, have bigger waves this winter, there could be issues in some places. Reporter moronism cant be controlled but scientists like hoover at usgs are doing what they can to better predict its next move and impacts. Well, usgs teams also do surveys from the air using planes and satellites. But they the work they do on the ground is much more accurate. And i mean, not a bad day at the office right . You are spending it at the beach. And but they are doing good work and things that we all need to think about and helping. Yeah. That is right we look at beach culture here and we forget there are people out there doing things when were at work. Seeing blue whales at this time of year because of those warmer temperatures. Not just the erosion of those beautiful beaches. Gosh. Look at the pictures. Looking to the weekend. Need to get to the beach. I do it almost every weekend. [ laughter ] the time now 5 40. Hurt recognizes hurt right and one California Community knows the pain that the people of maui are feeling this morning as they wake up. But heres the headline, turning that hurt into help. In fact this was the california reality after the 2018 camp fire that nearly wiped out the entire community of paradise. 85 died and 18,000 buildings burned. But as were seeing in maui, we Work Together to rebuild after hard things happen and heres john ramos with what the town of paradise went through and what theyre going to be telling the people of maui about how to survive. Reporter its been five years since the terrible camp fire destroyed almost all of the town of paradise. But now that its happened in lahaina, maui, theyre hoping that this town can stop being known as a place of disaster and start being a place of inspiration. There had been fires before, but what happened on november 8th, 2018 was something no one could have imagined. Now five years later, the devastation of paradise has been repeated in lahaina. It was so much like what we had here and it was it was very hard to watch. You know, your heart just sunk watching it. All of the images of the ashes and the burned cars and the the total destruction as far as the eye can see. Thats what it was like here too. Reporter looking at paradise, its hard to envision that it was once a densely forested community. Now it looks a bit like the high desert. Although amidst the stumps new trees have begun to sprout. About a third of the population has returned. And Home Construction is ongoing. The commercial district is still pretty sparse. But one building that by some miracle survived is snoops sisters visibilitiage in moore. The owner says the secondhand store has become important for helping victims locate items that remind them of things lost in the fire. Its the little tiny things. Ill never forget a friend of mine reached down and he picked up a rubber band after the fire and he said i have a rubber band. I own a rubber band. And he put it in his pocket. He still has the rubber band. But it was the only thing he owned. Reporter its an important lesson for lahaina. The residents didnt just lose their houses, they lost their entire sense of place. And mayor greg bowlen says there are difficult psychological hurdles to cross. People are angry. And we went through that. Because theyre hurting. And they take it out on public officials, they take it out on the people that are keeping them from going in because they got to look for bodies and stuff. And its it is a very emotional time. Reporter island officials have already begun reaching out to paradise forked a dice. And while you might think the town would be tired of being identified for the worst day in its history. Recovery director colet curtis says it has actually given them a sense of purpose. We feel that were a lot more than that. Were lot more than the disaster. However, we really take this as a very special responsibility to learn from this, to you know, figure out how to get through this. And to show other communities and other people how you can survive Something Like this. Im happy were there and im happy we can do it. It does bring back the memories and those juices, that you know, you dont want to stir back up. But its important for them for us to be there for them. We know what they feel. They know the loneliness. We know the feeling of everyone forgot. But we havent. Were not forgetting. Well never forget. We havent forgotten here and we wont forget you either. Reporter what was once unimaginable must now be planned for. And the lessons of paradise are there to help lahaina and whoever else is next. Its so wonderful hearing from those residents of paradise and to see that town just rebuilt years after. Seeing he plants trees plants hope and to see more trees being growing and being planted i think that really says a loot. We feel what you feel. Lets talk a to jess. Its soupy out there. In the atmosphere, thats the perfect way to put this into perspective. The area of low pressure is rinking out the last of its moisture over us here in california. You can see all the light showers still sweeping up near the sierra tahoe area. Tail take a look real fast. Some videos that i took just last night or crew chiefs i should say they took last night of flying yesterday just above the sierra tahoe area. I had to fly for the National Guard last night and this was the sunset. It was gorgeous. Some clouds left or right in the distance and a little bit of popup storms too that we kind of dodged back and forth but it was stunning and gorgeous. So i can show you still dealing with that this morning. Back to the bay area though. Notice how all the storms are kind of just in the north of us really what were dealing with this morning is the marine layer. Whos to say that that wasment not the case right . This is a normal day for us here in the bay area. We have that thick marine layer holding along the coast and kind of sweeping its way over the peninsula into the evening hours tonight. Some cloudy skies for us here in the bay area. I want to start off with our sutro tower cam though you can see just the top of salesforce. That marine layer really holding on tight this morning. To everyone in San Francisco. We might see a little bit of moisture here or there throughout the next couple of days. If anything its just some light showers and sweep their way through. Amounting to less than 0. 01 throughout most of the bay area if anything. A little bit more dense along the coast but well continue to keep the close eye on that especially as we head into next week. Heres the reason why i athat. Notice how just a little bit of the uptick as we head into sunday and monday when it comes to the rain chances. Believe it or not, theres a reason why. Hurricane hillary starting to really form down to the south just south of mexico. And were keeping a close eye on the track of that. Eventually into california as it turns into low pressure system. The reason why . Sea surface temperatures are going to be well above average. That allows for a lot of strength for it but once it hits southern california, sea surface temperatures up here are actually mildly cool and so thats the reason why were going to start seeing that disintegrate to category 2 by the time it hits baja, california eventually it will turn into a low pressure system. And then dissipate as it makes its way into california and we can see some more dense clouds into next week potentially due to that. Other than that though for now i should say, upper 80s in the forecast for us and certain pockets of the Santa Clara Valley. All the way up into the north bay we go. Were going to be flirting with the upper 70s and lower 80s all week long. Its a beautiful mild forecast and are us. Even off intotiic and i mean 90s today and 80s by tomorrow. Kind of going back and forth all week long and keep you updated on the 7 day forecast but gianna, how are the roads this morning . More about the video. What a gorgeous sun sit from the sky that you showed us. So cool to see. All right, well, the roadways, theyre not too bad in some spots and in fact if you takeically take the nimitz. A few more minutes to you know, grab the coffee. Its not so bad. In fact, im giving the nimitz a thumbs up right now. It actually looks pretty good as you work your way near the coliseum. Heading northbound. Which is the bulk of what we could typically see for the morning commute. Bearable there. Its getting a little bit busy across the san mateo bridge and seeing those headlight taillights heading westbound over towards 101. Thats the commute direction. Getting crowded there. Think about heading out the door if you are taking the ride across the bay via the san mateo bridge but we have a lot of green still not bad on 101 toe san mateo. Taking 280 all clear there. In fact that ride along 280 in the south bay looks really good as well. One thing you want to keep in mind though if we get a little close up here to 101 out of san jose thats starting to bog down a little bit. I got word of a crash from chp not too far from mckee. Its not causing too many trouble spots there but just a headsup it is certainly getting busy for anyone commuting out of the south bay. Right now, in new welcome back everybody.
