At least 80 people have been killed in wild fires in hawaii making this the deadliest Natural Disaster in the states history. Survivors in lahaina returning home to see the destruction. Mostly it is just grim. Much of the town of 13,000 is in ruins this afternoon. At least 80 people are now confirmed dead making it the deadliest Natural Disaster there since hawaii became a state. Three fires remain active. 2,000 buildings have been damaged and destroyed and more than 12,000 people are still without power in lahaina and they just cant grasp the enormity of it. It felt surreal. I dont know how to explain it. Its like a war zone. And youre just like, you dont know how to feel. Its like we are the only things we have now. Because everything we had in the past is gone. Back in the bay area, organizer of the annual bay area aloha festival say the maui tragedy brought more people to the San Mateo County event center today. Da lin talked to someone who had lost a Family Member in the fires and just flew back to the bay area this morning. Reporter some of the folks working the booths have families affected by the maui fires but say this is not the time to grieve. They there do that later. They want to support the survivors. Among the thousands of people working and attending the bay area festival is jasmine contreras. We are also accepting cash. But then we are also directing. Reporter she was in hawaii visiting family and working for the Hawaii Chamber of commerce of Northern California foundation where she is a board member. And knock out cell coverage. So people couldnt, you couldnt hear from anybody. You just didnt know what was going on. I found out lawsuiter in the week, we did have someone who passed away. That was rough. Still, its surreal and one of those how can we help the rest of the family. Reporter her uncle died in a car trying to escape the flames. How can i be helpful but not a hindrance . Reporter she is exhausted from the flight back but said no way would she miss this opportunity to rally the bay area. If i can divert any attention back to the people who need help, i want to do that. Reporter organizers noticed an increase in foot traffic in this years festival compared to last. The annual aloha festival is a celebration of the Pacific Islanders culture. Featuring hawaiian music, dance, and food. But it is also bringing organizations together to talk about long term relief efforts. Funding, material. Clothing. The basic human needs. And determine how we will get them there. Reporter jasmine says as her large family copes with the loss, she is touched by the generosity of so many who want to help. It is great to hear these people care. And they are saying im not hawaiian or i dont have any connection but you know, i have the means and i want to help. Reporter hawaiian officials are reminding people to be careful of scammers taking advantage of the tragedy. They are asking folks to donate to reputable organizations. A humanitarian group is headed to hawaii to help with the relief effort from the deadly maui fires. The group tells us it was in lahaina to assess the damage. The volunteers are going back now to send supplies over. But well be flying to oahu. They will get on a boat to maui. Tear mission is to make sure that people are safe. Our process is to support them with love. The same way we have done through generations. Showing love. To make sure we do what we have to do to surround them. To make sure that everything will be okay. Right now, Oakland Airport has one delayed flight going to maui at sfo. One flight has been canceled and four are delayed. There are no delays or cancellations to maui from san jose. And we have been compiling information on how you can help. Its under top stories on kpix. Com. A raging fire gutted a historic theater in pittsburgh. This is the indian theater on east 10th street. Firefighters were preparing for it to collapse. The fire was put out around 7 00 this morning and the building had been abandoned but it is still standing. Crews responded with four alarms and briefly evacuated some residents. They got it under control and avoided a total collapse. No one was injured in the fire. It is hard to get at the scene of the fire. We are pushing water in from the outside. Trying to get to the scene of the fire can be difficult when we are in defensive operations. The indian theater had shown movies and housed businesses in pittsburgh for almost a century. Now its the citys second historical theater to go up in flames after the roof of the former vo theater collapsed. A 14yearold girl recovering after gunfire. It began at the antioch marina with a group of fights handgun shots. At some point the girl was shot. Someone drove her to the Century Plaza and called 911 and left. Taking a live look at a foggy Golden Gate Park. The Biggest Party in the bay area is taking place right now. Thousands of people are flocking to Golden Gate Park for the second day of the Music Festival outside lands. Tonights headliner is the fu fighters. For bart, the festival is bringing an increase in ridership. Yesterday, they recorded 11,000 more trips than last friday. Outside lands is celebrating its 15th anniversary. And during that time, the festival has brought in 1 billion to the city. As john ramos reports, a lot of that is going to small businesses. Reporter outside lands gives people the chance to see some of the Biggest Bands in the country, but sometimes its the little guy getting the biggest opportunity at an event like this. Its early afternoon in the famous bands wont hit the stage until later. But this is a god send for musicians who are trying to make a name for themselves. There are so many you dont really know. And the lineup is huge. So you are just kind of exploring each stage and hearing new music and new bands and they get new fans. Reporter outside lands is huge drawing 75,000 visitors a day over the three day event. That presents a golden opportunity for more than just the bands. The event prioritizes local food vendors and getting a spot here is not easy. We spent about three years applying to get in. Kept trying to get our name in there. Trying to say cookie dough, you need cookie dough at outside lands. Reporter they started their cookie dough business out the dough in concord. Though they have a brick and mortar store, the three days at outside lands accounts to 10 to 15 of the entire year sales. For small businesses, the way to reach new customers has changed dramatically in recent years. Not so much getting into like the printed ads of the world. And the social Media Marketing of the world. But making sure we are out in the community. Connecting with people directly. I think that really is a necessary thing for our business. Reporter and there are a lot of people to connect to outside lands. While that may be helpful to food vendors, it may actually be needed to save some in the struggling cannabis industry. Immediately after the state legalized pot outside lands opened its grasslands area. The first and still only major Music Festival to allow on site consumption. The majority of the folks in here in grasslands are not traditional dispensary consumers. These are the folks back in 2018 we thought were going to come out in droves when legalization occurred. This helps to introduce a brand new market for a lot of these vendors. Reporter martin olive founded the vapor room. He says he is not surprised that things didnt take off as smoothly as so many predicted. Theres going to be a lot of stumbling in the first few years but i think events like this showcase how it can be done well. Ethically, responsibly. And with a lot of fun.
