This year is different because teachers are returning with a more than 15 Salary Increase and Additional Resources after hard fought contract negotiations. That was in may. Thousands walked off the job for about two weeks meaning there were no lessons inside the class. After a string of labor negotiations, the district agreed to not only raise but support even more staff and also added those so called common good clauses. Common good clauses are aimed at improving social and Economic Conditions for students in oakland. That includes creation of a black Reparations Task force. We also know parents and their kids were doing some shopping over the weekend and parents are pretty excited about this. I am excited as a parent. I have think a lot of parents are excited that their kids are back in school and back into a routine. A lot of babies fell behind with all this pandemic stuff and then the strike. We have heard from a few over the last weeks including a radio dispatcher with San Jose Department he who says dispatch workers work 8 to 14 hour shifts six days a week due to staff vacancies. Another is a vet technician at Happy Hollow Park and zoo and theyve been working with a salary they say is not enough to survive in the bay area. Its been beyond frustrating to hear the same rhetoric over and over again that turning around and saying on one hand, we are a very valuable part of the city. Tomorrow we are talking about low 80s. Thats going to be the case as we wrap up the week and head into our weekend forecast. Into san rafael we go, we will notice that cool down, not as much necessarily. Our micro climates are doing something different. Today we are in the 80s and tomorrow we will hit the 60s. I take that back. That is a pretty big change. The rest of our micro climates, sunny as High Pressure builds in and cooler and cloudier. We might get a little bit coastal moisture. We can see drizzle in the forecast for our tuesday set up with Cool Conditions that will range into San Francisco. Dont be shocked as you see that marine layer fill the bay tomorrow morning with a little bit of moisture too. Cloudy skies will stick around and temperatures slowly rise back to average and even a little bit above average. In the north bay, 90s today, 70s tomorrow. You will need multiple outfits this week. I am ready for it. Lets get you out the door. If you are heading to the bay bridge or ready to make the ride out of the east bay to San Francisco, we have brake lights building. Its official. Metering lights are on and traffic is starting to back up for anyone making the ride into the city. If you are thinking about getting ready to head out, you might want to give yourself extra time because we are starting to see that back up building. Other than that we are looking good along 101, peninsula, 280, san mateo bridge clear as well as the ride out of the south bay. I am not seeing a lot of problems there yet. Taking 680, that looks clear through san ramon and concord, that commute is looking good as well. There are brake lights for anyone making the ride into the Altamont Pass. Both directions are slow around the 205 connector towards mount house. That crash is blocking at least one lane. Look at all that water. This is a wild scene out of antioch as a side sh ends with crashes, injuries and season suv in the river. This haened in the antioch marina parking lot which is blocks from the citys Police Department. Residents and Business Owners tell da lin theyve had enough. Reporter a car submerged, part of the side show. Well come back to this shortly. Officers responded to multiple crashes involving cars leaving the side show and fleeing from antioch police. Not surprised. Not surprised but sad. Reporter this Business Owner kathy says side shows happen at the antioch marina parking lot almost every weekend, the latest happened sunday around 3 00 in the morning. Its frustrating, hopeless in a lot of aspects because we dont know what we can do. We have gone to our leaders. Nothing gets done. Reporter investigators say this white car plowed into this black car at a high speed. The white car sheared off a fire hydrant. Paramedics transported the innocent female in the black car to the hospital. Police say this is the driver of the white car. He was arrested after being treated. They believe he was one of at least 50 cars spinning doughnuts in the parking lot. Officers say this suv took part before it crashed into a water main in front of the Harbor Masters Office causing water to shoot into the air. The suv struck a large concrete garbage can. The driver ran away. Police found a suburban in the river at the end of a dock. They believe someone drove it into the river after the side show, unclear if it was stolen, workers towed it out, nobody inside. Somethings got to be done. Businesses like mine and smiths landing, they cant go on. People dont feel comfortable coming. I feel sorry for smiths landing. Its a nice restaurant. But things like this will make us not want to come down here anymore. Reporter they say drivers and spectators dont care. The Police Department is a block away. This is almost a badge of honor for people to be able to do this in front of the Police Department. The city added speed bumps in the parking lot but not very effective. A councilman is talking to city staff about adding other rubber barriers to prevent side shows. He is asking the city to request help from chp and contra costa sheriffs department. They dont have enough patrol officers. If you look at a seven beat system with 31 officers assigned to patrol for 24 7 operation, math does not add up. Kathy hopes help comes soon. Maybe a gate at the Richmond Marina where you have to pay to get in. There is a law that fines drivers involved and i am pound their cars.
