This has been a very methodical move and a lengthy cleanup process for contra costa fire. They found more than 600 different chemicals and removed more than 800 bottles of Hazardous Materials from the property here. The process had to be done very carefully because crews not only had to remove those chemicals but they had to test the chemicals and properly dispose of them. They had to figure out how dangerous those chemicals were to those who live in the area so the process was long. That shed which was filled with these Hazardous Materials and chemicals belonged to a retired chemistry teacher who died roughly 6 months ago. The brother of the chemist found all of these items when he was cleaning out the property days ago. Ranging from explosives to regular chemicals to acids to oxidizers, flammable liquid. At this point, most of it has been contained, has been stabilized, has been transported offsite from the residence to a facility where it will be disposed of. Reporter the chemicals and materials were probably there for years. Hazmat teams are back on scene. We are told those five homes that are around the home that is at the center of the investigation will be allowed inside their home at some point today. We will keep pressing them to find out exactly a timeline with that. We will let you know. There was concern the fire could spread to residential units above the bakery but the fire was quickly contained. We had problems with the old brick oven that we have had for over 100 something years. For heating the oven, we use the flame and the flame must have affected the walls of the building. There was a large response with fire crews coming from around the city. And santa clara county, crews remain at the scene of the clayton fire which burned close to homes yesterday.
