It gets heavier as you had further east and southeast e il pockets of moderate and heavy rain within the Santa Cruz Mountains. We still have about another hour to go for this Flash Flood Warning that overlaps with the czu burn scar. As this emerges from the south i think new warnings will have to replace that, whether that happens right at 6 30 or they wait a little bit for the next wave of more substantial moisture to arrive. We will keep you updated on that. The moisture again is just being sent up towards us by the bulk of this Atmospheric River with the heaviest rain being aimed further to our south, but plenty of the bay area is getting in on all of this rainfall. We will add it up with a closer look at it accounts coming up in a few minutes. We have sent meteorologist darren peck into some of the heaviest rain at morgan hill, darren, any report of flooding on 101 in the northbound planes, just to the north of morgan hills, so some problems in your neck of the woods . Would not be surprised. Reporter on the drive down here, paul, i encountered some of those spots on the freeway where you feel your car slow down from the tug of the amount of water on the road. And, what was interesting about that is, that did not happen in san jose. Once you get past san jose, you enter into what is right now the path of this Atmospheric River. I dont know how well this will show up. I know paul is showing high def doppler on the air. You get a much better picture from looking at that but i wanted you to see all the yellow and orange on here. Here is little morgan hill right in the middle of that. Now, look down here. All that rain is just a steady stream pointed right at the Santa Clara County. Sometimes it lightens up, sometimes it picks up in intensity. But, the important theme of that is it does not stop. That is the characteristic of an Atmospheric River, the most important one and can be the most concerning one if you happen to get stuck in it, and that is why we came to morgan hill. Because, morgan hill, in the southern part of Santa Clara County, is right on the very Northern Edge of that stream. It is really focused down in monterey county. But, here at home, this is the part of the southernmost edge of the bay area that should hunker down and expect it to look, feel, and sounds just like this, for the next 24 hours if not more. We will see what the High Resolution forecast models paul will share with you coming up later have to say about that. Look at the rainfall totals we have already gotten. When you look at the big numbers that show up there, four inches in boulder creek, that is up in the Santa Cruz Mountains. A lot of that is from yesterday. And, a lot of that is also because you are up in the mountains. The mountains will always get a lot more rain. Where i am standing now, in morgan hill, we have gotten almost 3 1 4 inches of rain. Entering the low lands we have a lot more to go, with this, still. We will take a look at that whole pattern, and why it is such a unique set up, and why Atmospheric Rivers are worth paying attention to. All right, guys, back to you for now. Thanks, darren. Coming up in the full forecast in a few minutes i will have a look at when dry weather might set up in the bay area and we will check out how much snow is expected in the sierras. Guys . Gia pi accumulatein wntown ucan idea of just how quickly these bulldozers and snowplows have been trying to work. Again, it is just not enough. The roads we are seeing are getting more slippery and icy as we head into the evening hours. We did have a chance to speak with chp, and they say there was a very short window today to get out onto the highway, and to get to where you need to go. That window has now closed. We are seeing almost 0 visibility, whiteout conditions, obviously making driving extremely dangerous. But, this blizzard isnt all bad. If you are in truck he, it is quite beautiful. People are taking advantage of the weather. We have seen people Cross Country skiing down the street, filling their snowmobile tanks with gas. Take a listen. Is my birthday, so we came out here to snowboard. Its so beautiful. Stoked, excited. The avalanche danger is considerable right now and pretty extreme. So, we will stay in the trees and the flats. Reporter we got a chance to speak to caltrans, they say their biggest concerns through the overnight hours, high winds and the fact that this snowstorm is likely to strengthen throughout the evening. That could be a problem. Could be. If you are there it is fine but if you arent, maybe hold off until the weekend. Thanks so much, laura, appreciate it. Some of that rain can soak into the ground. Another chance of showers trying to move into the north bay before the sun comes up on saturday. A lot of this is going to have a hard time making its way in but we will leave it outside chance of showers in the forecast just to be on the safe side. Adding a brain for the northern half of the bay area, this is through tomorrow, the next rave of heavier moisture, half an inch to a full inch of moisture accumulation, then we wind the clock forward into this weekend system which will not bring nearly the amount of moisture to the bay area as we have seen over the past 24 hours and the next 24 hours. Further south, through midday tomorrow, we are talking about higher amounts, three quarters of an inch to an inch and a half in some spots, the Santa Cruz Mountains picking up two inches of rain in the next 18 hours or so with another half an inch adding up through the end of the workweek into the first half of the weekend.
