Kenny was the first to expose appears to be a massive fraud problem involving the use of unemployment debit cards issued by bank of america. It sort of shouted out oh my god. Almost all of my unemployment has opinion almost hacked. That was brooks reaction when she went to check her edd card balance. Two charges, one for 1,500 at neaman marcus and another had wipe the out her account. She was on hold for hours before she was finally able to file a claim. She is still fighting to get all her money back. It feels like bank of america isnt taking this seriously. It feels like we are being treated like second class citizens. Brook reached out after seeing our previous reports about others caught in the same thing. Since then we have received even more emails, everybody desperately crying out for help. How many of you have lost money to fraud . 1,000. Two transactions of a thousand dollars each. My mother lost 4,806. How about you . 5,000. Everybody in this group lost their jobs because of the pan democrat speck depends on their Unemployment Benefits to survive. I have a son. Im a widow. I have three kids. They say trying to get bank of america to help is almost impossible. Called again,. Can i put you on hold . Click. I went in to the bank myself twice to try to get help in person. They were they didnt want to touch it. Dont talk to us. Call the number on the wall. They say once you do get through. Basically what they do is try to make you feel guilty, saying no, no, this is valid withdrawal. Even though they believe all of the transactions had obvious red flags. If happened at two atms. Miles away from me in the middle of the night. How do i make two transactions in san diego and arizona with in minutes of each other . Despite evidence the bank did nothing for them. I sent them the ftc report. The same day they were withdrawing in the same city. Money tikien out of atm machines and they have cameras on the machines. Instead days after filing claims they say they got letters like this one that says the above listed claim has been closed. The letter was dated the 20th. I didnt make the claim until the 19th so nothing was investigated. Just a letter. You may request that we reopen your claim but victims say that seems to go in where. Actually called this morning at 7 00 a. M. She gave me a new claim number. What use is that if we cant check the status of that claim . I know im not exempt from fraud. I know thats the time we are live in and people will get more desperate. When you have an institution as large as bank of america and they are refusing to do anything about it and the state is a ware of it too. I dont think thats fair. Bank of america turned down a request for an interview. It wont tell us how many are affected. How much has been develop. The bank has to do a real investigation and cant just deny claims that they knee are probably fraudulent. Lauren saunders said that the real problem is forcing people to use the debit card that as we have reported doesnt have a security check. She said the Employment Department may be doing a run around by offering paper checks as an alternative option but not allowing direct deposit. Have you the right to choose how you receive your Unemployment Benefits. The departments contract with bank of america may have something to do with it. It is a revenue sharing agreement in which edd gives the bank, the taxpayer funds to distribute and the bank pays edd for the privilege of handling the money. Its profitable for bank of america and edd. I think thats part of the reason that california is pushing people into using the cards rather than using direct deposit. I dont understand why they have this longstanding contract. There is protection under that visa logo. That bank of america puts on that prepaid card. It is prepaid but i will get my money back. I wont stop. Edk told us if the fraud is happening on the card, then the america can resolve it and pay the victim back. When we asked b of of about that they said no comment.
