As we take a look at the roadways, we have a few brake lights heading into the altamont pass. Our super commuter routes are already starting to see a slow and go ride. Traffic certainly already seeing brake lights through there especially between the northglenn exit. 39 minutes from 205 toward 680. Also, 101 in the south bay, the morgan hill ride definitely already slow. Things open up nicely but then you see brake lights again through 101 and san jose. Developing this morning, in san jose, Police Say Two people are dead and another is seriously injured after a stabbing at a church. This was the scene last night outside Grace Baptist Church on east fernando street close to san jose state. You can see a Large Police Presence there and emergency vehicles. Police say they are investigating two crime scenes this morning, one inside the church and the other outside. No religious services were going on during the attack. We have learned the victims may have been homeless and were allowed inside to escape the cold. These two deaths are the 40th and 41st homicides in san jose so far this year. Sfpd is expected to give an update later this morning. Im anne makovec at the live news desk. We have good news on the covid 19 vaccine front. There is a third horse in the running right now. Astrazeneca and oxford university, there vaccine is now coming up with a rate similar to what we have seen with the other two companies, 90 efficacy showing up this morning in their late stage trials. It is interesting because the 90 comes from a half dose. They used a half dose on one of the vaccines and a full dose on the other one. The other companies that we are talking about here, pfizer and moderna, they came out last week saying that their vaccines were 95 protecting you against covid19. They were 95 . This new one from astrazeneca, though it is 90 , it will be cheaper to produce and you dont have to keep it at a very cold refrigerated below freezing temperatures for long periods of time. We will see how this all shakes out. We will see how the stock market thinks of this new development. Again, good news, astrazeneca late stage covid xix vaccine is 90 efficacy rate. Governor gavin newsom is in quarantine after he and his family were exposed to covid19. The governor twitting out last night he learned friday three of his children had been exposed to a chp officer who tested positive for covid19. He said he and his wife jennifer had no direct interaction with the officer and the entire family tested negative sunday but will be quarantining for 14 days. Across the state, counties in the purple tier protested Governor Newsoms curfew order the moment it took effect on saturday. Many people seen not wearing masks. The curfew is in effect for at least a month. That statewide curfew does not apply in a San Francisco at least for now. Looking live out in the city, the county is still in the red tier Health Officials say it could fall back into the purple tier sometime this week. If so, the county would have 48 hours to implement the curfew. Santa clara county is ramping up its covid19 testing as it continues to see an alarming increase in cases and hospitalizations. Kpix 5s emily turner joins us live from san jose with the details. Reporter numbers are pretty scary. Basically in the last seven days, the case count is the highest it has been since the start of the pandemic. That is not good news when it comes to trying to get back closer to reopening. There has been a steeping chris and hospitalizations. A 50 increase in the last seven days. From 110 on november 12 to 166 on november 19. As covid19 hospitalizations continue to increase, the Health Department says hospitals in the county could exceed capacity in just three weeks. Due to an uptick in demand, the county is expanding its Testing Facilities as well. Right now the countys largest site is at the fairgrounds and it tests 2500 people per day. That number will increase to 3000 starting today and next week, the county will begin testing 5000 people at least three times a week. That is twice the current capacity. We want people who must test to continue to have access. Essential workers, people who have and exposed. We are asking people who want to test because perhaps they want to test before traveling, to please not. Simply postpone your travel. Reporter some things to know if you do need to get tested. One, you need an appointment. They are taking very few, if any walkins at all. You can make those appointments up to seven days ahead. We got online and looked, it is not easy to find availability. Planning in advance is really imperative. Also, thanksgiving day, testing sites will be closed and not all of them will be open on friday but some of them will so be sure to take a look. With cases rising and thanksgiving around the corner, public Health Officials are urging folks to get swabbed. That is what brought these people out to redwood city yesterday. Some know firsthand what it is like to see their loved ones get sick. I am not taking that risk of getting together at thanksgiving. It is really just for my own, making sure that i am negative at this time. It has to hit your family for you to believe how bad it is. The cdc is advising people to cancel their thanksgiving travel plans altogether and only have thanksgiving with your immediate household. Youve got a few brake lights forming near the toll plaza especially coming off the 880 overpass. It stays slow across the upper deck. We are seeing some red popping up on sensors. Some slow speeds as you work your way westbound into San Francisco. A couple of things to keep in mind. There is a road closure in effect due to a crash as well as Police Activity. Fremont Police Issued an advisory for mission boulevard between niles canyon and macys. They are expecting that closure to be in effect for the next several hours. Some better news for this trouble spot in the santa rosa area, a vehicle hit a fire hydrant. It looks like theyre clearing this up. Lanes are now open. Other things to look out for this morning, it is the usual stuff for your right into the altamont pass. 39 minutes from 205 over toward 680. Brake lights extend to northglenn. Our other super commuter route is in the south bay out of gilroy. Things are starting to slow in the sand martin and extend to morgan hill. You will see a few brake lights as you head into the south bay. I was up early sunday morning and it was chilly. The clouds are keeping us warmer today. I will use one of our cameras that shows us a little bit of a break. This is the camera out in richmond or leased out by the richmondsan rafael bridge. You can see some light out in the distance but that also spotlights how cloudy it is. There is just one little opening. Most parts of the bay, you are seeing fairly cloudy skies. That actually acts like a blanket. We are like 10 to 15 degrees warmer right now than we were yesterday at this time. That also applies to friday. You probably remember friday morning at this time more than you do sunday. Look at the numbers here, low to mid 50s for much of the bay. Then you get up into the far north bay in santa rosa and it is 37 degrees. The comparison shows you 16 degrees warmer right now in concord than it was yesterday at this time. Same story in livermore. 12 degrees warmer in san jose. 13 degrees warmer in oakland. Dilemma, you are on the Northern Edge of this. You have 11 degrees above where were you yesterday as well. Look at all the clouds are. You get up into the northbay where you dont have as many and that is where the colder temperatures are. It is so cold in in santa rosa now that fog has been able to develop down on the ground. Be aware of that if you are out driving around. I do see some reports of that. You could hit an isolated patch in the northbay. What happens as we get into the late morning. By 9 00, the clouds are gone. Even though we start out cloudy, it will be another blue sky, gorgeous, late november day. In fact, we will be a couple of degrees above average for this time of year. Mid60s and places, maybe even borderline upper 60s. Weve got concord going up to 66. That is our warm spot along with fairfield. There is santa rosa and 66 as well. As many as 9 million americans did not get them last spring and missed the deadline on saturday. But, the irs says people can still collect the money during next years tax season. That includes College Students and low income families. Here is another startling number. About 12 million americans could lose their Unemployment Benefits in a few weeks. That is because two Coronavirus Relief programs are set to expire on december 25. Hundreds of thousands of laid off workers continue to file new claims including 740,000 last week. We have some breaking news on the race for a Coronavirus Vaccine. Astrazeneca just came out this morning, saying that its vaccine is 90 effective. 90 efficacy on its latest vaccine. This is astrazeneca along with oxford university. 90 is below what the other two companies have come up with in the past couple of weeks, moderna and pfizer. But, astrazenecas vaccine will be a little bit easier to distribute. It apparently does not need to be held at the super cold below freezing temperatures for a long period of time. And, it looks like it might be cheaper to distribute. Right now, we have pfizer ahead in this game which could end up with a vaccine out there by the end of the year. We just heard from the Australian Airline that they are going to require a vaccine on their passengers for International Flights once this is all squared away, once this vaccine is widely available. The ceo of the airlines, alan joyce, said this on tv. He said that other airlines will likely impose similar requirements. As far as the method flights within australia, he does not know if that will happen but International Flights. That will carry around a vaccine passport which is saying what vaccines we have had and what we have and. This is so far just one airline and we will keep an eye on it. Officials at the federal governments Vaccine Development program say they hope at least 20 million americans will be vaccinated by the end of the year if the fda approves the emergency authorization. On the 11th or the 12th of december, hopefully, the first people will be immunized across the united states. Pfizer applied for an emergency used authorization last week that the fda could approve in about two weeks. Moderna is expected to apply sometime this week. A National Association of nurses will hold a virtual News Conference to demand more action against the coronavirus. They say hospitals and Government Agencies need to take more Infection Control measures. The executive director of National Nurses united says, quote, with infection numbers we are seeing now, we are on trajectory to see an unprecedented and even cataclysmic level of death and suffering if we dont immediately correct course. Im emily turner in san jose where we are already seeing a spike in coronavirus cases, the highest they have been in the last seven days since the beginning of the pandemic. Hospitalizations have also gone up as well. As a result, the county is wrapping up its testing. Here is what we know about the hospitalizations. The number of hospitalized folks in covid19 cases have increased in just one week. The numbers went from 110 on 12 november to 166 on november 19. If covid19 hospitalizations continue to increase at this rate, then hospitals in the county could exceed capacity in three weeks. Due to the uptick in demand not only from all of the cases but also holidays, the county is expanding its Testing Facilities. It looks like all of the activity is over to the north shoulder but traffic is slow and go. If you are traveling in the south bay, Police Activity continues. There is a road closure in effect that is southbound. Definitely avoid that area if you can and use alternates. A 40 Minute Travel time right now for your ride into the altamont pass. Those delays begin out of tracy right around Mountain House and extend to northglenn. We have a few brake lights connecting to the dublin interchange if you are getting onto 680. We have Police Activity as well as a crash. The road is closed at mission boulevard. According to fremont police, this closure will be in effect for most of the morning. Use alternates in the meantime. The metering lights are on at the bay bridge but the backup is not too bad. You will see more delays as you work your way across the upper deck. Now that we have found plenty of light in the sky, you get the overview of just how cloudy it is, even here inland. Those are slick streets at least for the pavement. Pretty colors on the trees. That means it is warmer out there. That deck of clouds, you can think of it as a wet blanket. We pulled it over the bay area and that keeps the temperatures from going lower. We are in the mid50s right now for oakland. Livermore, 50 degrees. Not far down the road from this view. San jose, 50. Then, santa rosa sticks out like a sore thumb. 36 right now. When we take a look at where the clouds are and arent, it makes perfect sense. Look at where the shades of green are. I will change the Vantage Point on here to show you the outlay of the clouds. Plenty of it down here. It includes the peninsula of the south bay but there is nothing up there. The odd thing about that is it has gotten so cold now in the north bay for santa rosa. Temperatures drop low enough for the font to develop. You do have some patchy areas of but the Snow Advisory is not too widespread. Watch how fast it melts away. As soon as the sun gets higher, give it until 10 00 and then it is blue sky. It will be a glorious late november day. We know at least two people were killed and several other people seriously injured last night after this attack at san jose Grace Baptist Church. It is close to the san jose state campus. Police have given no confirmation of an arrest right now although we have had some rumors of one. The people who were stabbed maybe homeless who were allowed into the church to escape the cold. There was no Church Service going on at the time. There are two crime scenes being investigated. One inside the church and one outside the church. I also want to correct myself we were talking earlier about a recall, the federal regulators calling on gm to recall up to 6 million vehicles. That is because of faulty takata airbags. Im emily turner in san jose where there has been a steady increase of coronavirus cases as well as hospitalizations. Now they will ramp up testing as well. Hospitalizations have gone up about 50 in just the last week. The number of hospitalized covid19 patients went from 110 on november 12 to 166 on november 19. The Health Department says hospitalizations continue to rise. County hospitals will exceed capacity in three weeks. Scary stuff. Coronavirus cases overall, now the highest rate they have had in the last seven days. Due to the uptick in demand, the county is expanding its Testing Facilities as well. Rhino, the countys largest site is at the fairgrounds. They test 2500 people per day. Starting today, that number will increase to 3000 people.
