Survive that pandemic. They opened this cross fit 15 years ago. And now there are roughly 15,000 cross fit gyms in the world. It is really sad, you know, we have been here for 15 years. As you can see, you know, there is a Huge Community of people around us. Its a sad day. Reporter they pry themselves as a Small Business. Membership has gone down by 70 . Yet at their location, they remain high. And massive amount of money every month, no end in sight. The first wave of store closures back in april and may. Dozens of businesses shut down for good. We saw an early wave of early business closures. Thats because, you know, the margin for some of the businesses, they were really thin. What you saw is the sort of second wave that people have been able to manage to hold off on this point. The second wave could shut down Small Businesses. They will have a retail store and wholesale. And grocery stores, hotels, then were down to maybe 170 customers per delivery and they are all basically closed. And they are also down by about 40 . Hoping that there will be another round of government and the government assistance. And they will not shrink down a little bit. They left open the possibility of coming back, once the pandemic is over. But for now, it will be tough to lose such a big community. And they were heartbroken, you know. And that we are heartbroken. It is really sad. And we understand the golden gate restaurant association, they are asking the city for help. And pretty much all the restaurants in San Francisco. I wanted you to see the clear skies before i show you how Different Things are going to look by tuesday. All you have to do is look out and you can do it. Organized wave of rain will be coming our way. It doesnt get here until tuesday morning. Dark and early tuesday, where this will be one of those classic weak winter storms that will be really organized. By that i mean it will be a well developed cold front that you cannot miss it as it will march across the bay area. We start out early on tuesday morning, then we track that line, going right through the heart of the bay, through the late morning. By the time you get to the early afternoon, weve seen those showers, that organized line that is now moving down through the south bay. Still about 48 hours away from this and maybe a little off from that. And the timing and the details, they could still adjust on this, but we are close enough now to start pulling off as much detail now if we can. That is just the first wave of this because as these weak winter storms, they will typically come in, you get the leading edge on the cold front, and then behind it, you get the scattered showers. Well take a look at that and rainfall amounts, all the details, coming up into the forecast. Tonight people are being warned to watch their backs against San Franciscos choppy waters as the king tides will continue. Rescue crews were called out to the baths this morning. One man whose son was struck and killed in the bay view says the city needs to do more to keep the pedestrians and cyclists safe. We need to have speed limits reduced and in high crash zones. Someone started a gofundme page raising about 19,000. Im john ramos on Treasure Island where some people are working to close the education divide that is much more basic than whether you have a computer or not. And plus the sierra ski resorts are not open quite yet. But tonight, we do have a sneak peek of what you will see when you hit the slopes. And 10 is usually a perfect score unless youre playing golf. Tiger woods makes history a Restaurant Owner is leading an effort to help those struggling with remote learning. Kpix 5 john ramos explains how the community is coming together to give kids without a classroom a tiny space to call their own. Reporter we often focus on hightech. What kind of computer or mobile device students might have. But for some the obstacles may be more basic than that. For some it may be as simple as a desk. Two and a half years ago the restaurant merced opened on Treasure Island to serve the working class residents, many who live in crowded project housing. But when the pandemic hit, they read about a man Building Student desks. And i thought that they were a community, and if you are partnering with us and without question. They had prototypes ready. Reporter this morning they delivered the first 20 desks. And with a message of encouragement on the front and words of advice on the back. Bruce hightower arrived with his friend bruce to pick out his desk. And so you would be sitting down, everything is going around your house thats normal. Then youre like im in school while im doing this, so its kind of weird. Reporter mike furgia is one that built the desk, understanding the need of people to have their own work space. Im a lot older than these kids and i need that space, you know, in my house. And to have your own desk with your stuff, that your wife doesnt mess around with is really important, i get it. Reporter living on the island could be crowded and isolating at the same time. She hopes beyond the practical value of the desks, they will make the kids feel valued. A positive message that if repeated enough may actuall begin to get through. And thats why we hope to inspire them. Reporter on Treasure Island john ramos kpix 5. It only took them about four days to create the first 20 desks. She hopes to create a desk for every kid on Treasure Island. Speaking of islands, the tide is high, but as they once sang, we are okay. And so we spotlighted the king tides early in this newscast. Its coming back again tomorrow. And so we get two days of this. If you missed that excitement today, let me get you well informed for the timing on this. First of all you can see the coastal flood advisory, which the National Service issue advisory along the shoreline and the beaches when we would think of the high tides, but we also think of the bay, the shoreline in the bay, specifically some of the low lying spots. So we would hit them today. Thats when we would get our video of the water kind of lapping up on the parts of the embarcadero, which is very typical. Theyre just higher tides than typical high tides. The time frame on this tomorrow is monday at 11 25. So pretty similar a little bit later on in the day, just as high. One thing to keep in mind is the low lying road here. One of the troubled spots, coming up on 101, you get off on highway 1 to go through mill valley. And that low lying intersection is right where you get off the freeway. Just classic for being exposed to the bay. You can get some water. Sometimes they have to close that off ramp. A couple of things to keep in mind for that one. Lets talk about tuesdays rain. By the way, monday will reap the benefits. This is monday morning at 9 30. Tomorrow will be sunny and warm with a bunch of low 70s. But lets bring in the leading edge of the rain, which will get here on tuesday and makes for a different kind of day. We would look at this at the top of the newscast to show you the timing on it once again. A well organized cold front, marchs its way across the bay area. This is classic winter storm type stuff. This is not a terribly intense storm, but does have all the characteristics of one. By that i mann you get it in two phases. You get a cold front, which will march across the bay as one continuous line of showers. Everybody will get something. Thatll happen between about sunrise and 2 00 in the afternoon. Thats the first part of tuesday. And that will be the best rain of this twoday event. But its not the only way that were going to get rain. Once that cold front passes through on the backside of this you start to fill in with scattered hit or miss showers. Thats what tuesday afternoon and wednesday will look like. So its spotty and hit and miss and youre going to see rain on both days for tuesday and wednesday. But the nature of the rain and the characteristics of the rain will be different for tuesday morning. It will be the more impressive of the time frame. But look at the totals. Anywhere from a quarter of an inch of rain. Up in the north bay. So there will be a wide range. Everybody will get something. This is good news for the sierra over a foot coming up. More than that up at the resorts, which means if they had be traveling, theres a winter storm watch for tuesday afternoon through wednesday. Travel will be hazardous. Morning lows tomorrow not a problem. Mid to upper 40s and the daytime highs, they are actually really nice. Low 70s. These numbers are above average, where it will be sunny and the day before the storm will get here if you like that kind of thing. Get out and enjoy it. If youre going anywhere near the water, remember the time frame. And in the sevenday forecast, were done, once we get past wednesday and it looks like we could be done for you for a while. When i check back in with you in the next half hour, the long range forecast will start to look a lot like la nina. And i want to explain what i even mean by that and i will point it out to you and you will say yeah, that looks like it wont be the best news for us. For now juliette, back to you. Thank you. Check this out, new drone video showing crews getting ready for the big opening. Theyre actually clearing snow from roads in the parking lots, getting the chair lifts, trails ready. Cold temperatures, recent storms, snow making has certainly put plenty of fresh powder on the mountain. And here is what it will look like for the first skiers and borders who do hit the slopes. This video was shot from one of the resorts snow grooming machines as they headed down the hill. The ski resort is set to open on wednesday, november 25, just in time for thanksgiving. Look at that. Lead democrat support will make it big and focused, get it done. But theres something democrats are calling for a big bill with more than 2 trillion worth. Republicans are pushing for about a quarter of that in carefully targeted aid to those who need it most, which is a big thing to bridge. The relief benefits that remain are set to expire on december 31. What are these false claims of widespread Election Fraud doing to our country right now . They appear to be motivated in part because the president doesnt like to lose. Never admits loss. Im more troubled by the fact other republican officials who clearly know better are going along with this, are humoring him in this fashion. It is one more step in delegitimizing not just the incoming biden administration, but democracy generally. And thats a dangerous path. The 44th president will also discuss his new book, a promise land. Scott pelleys full interview is coming up in about 25 minutes right after this newscast. Its a testament to the power of science, what we could accomplish by harnessing our determination. And all of those factors, which will contribute to darren coming up with the forecast. Thank you very much. Right on track for those things. And now i see them behind you and before i get too into the potential downer that they could be for us, i want to point out the two important things about this forecast. Tomorrow will be beautifully sunny and near 70 for most of us. Then tuesday, were getting rain. Widespread rain for the bay area. We need it and it will be a good news story. That is going to come after la nina. Now first of all that will be a quick view to show you how they will develop and youre going to see it develop before your eyes. The temperatures, deeper the red, youre above normal for those temperatures. If you see blue, youre below normal. Now watch what happens in july and august and a lot more blue will show up here. Even more. Now watch october, thats la nina with this huge pool of much cooler average water down. And now that redirect, its the slow track. The way that it does it for us here at home it will shift it further north. So that Washington State and oregon, they have rainy winters than what they need to get as we tend to dry out and watch what happens as this will look like la nina. That says november 22, thats next monday. Here comes the storm, its going over the Pacific Northwest and we will just miss it with the next storm after that and it will hit the Pacific Northwest, stays too far north and we miss it with the next one, same pattern, they keep coming in like that staying a little too far north. So it does not have to go this way all winter, but the degree of confidence that weve got them for this winter is locked in as you just saw it in that map and in that long range forecast for the end, remember the atmosphere will start behaving like it. However, not this first storm. This is the one that will be coming for tuesday. Now by monday night a beautiful line of showers off our coast. By tuesday morning, here comes the cold front that will bring widespread rain across the entire bay area. Its going to start right around sunrise on tuesday morning. Then you can track the progression of those showers throughout the day on tuesday. Its a beautifully well organized storm, so that everybody will get rain. After that cold front will pass, the south baby about the early afternoon. Then were going to see fall up, and that will last through wednesday. So youll see in the sevenday forecast, now both tuesday and wednesday will have rain on them. Tuesdays rain will probably be more noticeable, a little more impressive. Then saturday is like the follow up, adding on a little bit more. We could get a quarter of an inch of rain for san jose and maybe three quarters of an inch of rain for the north bay. That will be a good snow maker for the mountains too to get over a foot of snow for that time frame. All right, as far as temperatures will go and tomorrow morning, well bottom out, very much like what you have been doing for the past couple of mornings. Its not as cold as what we have seen this season and pretty much normal. But the daytime highs tomorrow, remember the rain, its not starting until tuesday. Tomorrow will be sunny for the most part and above average with a lot of low 70s. If you like sunny and warm, then tomorrow is your day and make the most of it because tuesday and wednesday will be anything, but as that system will come in as we go from 71 monday down to the mid60s.
