Alameda county still in the orange reopening tier is putting the brakes on future reopenings but Health Officials are warning the county could be forced to roll back restrictions more. As kpix5 kenny choi reports, there is a lot of uncertainty as to whether they can weather another round of shutdowns. Reporter they have had Indoor Dining a little over a month now. Another round of shutdowns an restrictions would mean the end of his family restaurant. We are at the point where it doesnt make sense anymore. Reporter ken and his wife havent laid off a single worker since the pandemic started. Selling their retirement property to keep their staff employed. We have tried to take care of our family which is our employees. Reporter across the street, alameda bike owner jean oh who has run this shop more than 30 years is concerned. We are lucky our sales up. But this is saul about the vibrancy of the street. When we lose restaurants, we lose the vibrancy and the pedestrian traffic. Reporter the looming restrictions has this tightly knit Business Community wonder how long they can hold on. There are days you feel like saying thats it, im done. Then you say you can plow ahead. Look at your numbers at the end of the day, you realize thats not enough to pay the rent. Reporter Indoor Dining at 25 capacity has given ollies waffle shot a fighting chance but another pause would mean a permanent goodbye for this man who did things the right way. If they shut us down again, i will lock the doors and thats it. Im at the end of the road here. Reporter Officials Say if current infection trends continue, that would move the county all the way back to the purple widespread tier meaning more restrictions for businesses. In alameda, kenny choi, kpix5. And Contra Costa County is also bracing for a new wave of covid restrictions. Come tuesday, the county is closing indoor gyms and fitness centers, Indoor Dining. And Concession Stands at movie theater. One Restaurant Owner says he is fortunate to do takeout but losing Indoor Dining as temperatures drop will come at a tremendous cost. One gym owner says keeping up in all the changes in different counties is a lot of back an forth. Come tuesday, we have to scale it back. Thats the only way our businesses will stay afloat. Scaling it back means you will have to lay off or let go of some employees. How do you choose . They have all been willing to work through this pandemic. They have all been a part of our success. A lot of back and forth. A lot of trying to keep up with what rules are supposed to be in place where. Business owners say the hardest part is there is no way of knowing how long these rollbacks will last and at what cost. In San Francisco, a ban on Indoor Dining is now in effect. And it couldnt come at a worse time for indian restaurants. Today marks the start of the most important holiday for hindus and indian americans. But this is what it is doing to me. And, the hospitality community. Tonight, many restaurants that stocked up for extra guests are dealing with empty dining rooms instead. And one Restaurant Owner we spoke with was counting on the fiveday celebration to provide a big boost in business after eight tough months. Several uc davis students are quarantined after attending a Fraternity Party. School leaders said a student tested positive for covid19 after they attended a theta chi Party Thursday night. Nine others are isolating on campus after being exposed. The university is doing contact tasting to find tracing. Partying is selfish. I dont understand why people are doing it. If we all stayed inside or quarantined and wore masks and didnt party, we could all get out of this a lot quicker. Uc davis is continuing to investigate the gathering and could take disciplinary action. A Pilot Program that provides coronavirus Contact Tracing is expanding to uc berkeley and may go statewide. It alerts people if they have been exposed to the virusment they are asked to enroll in the program on monday. The program launched at ucsf and ucsd in september. It is not just here. Covid cases are pretty bad nationwide. In with the holidays around the corner, things could take a turn for the worse. Kpix5s betty yu spoke to experts about things that you might want to avoid if you do travel or get together with family. Reporter thats right. The governor is asking californians to avoid crowded lines, stay local, limit interactions to your immediate household. State Health Officials have said that the travel advisory could be made a ban if conditions continue to worsen. A strict travel advisory from governor gavin newsom is coinciding with what would normally be the busiest travel period of the year. The governors of oregon and washington also urge people the avoid nonessential out of state travel. And if you leave the region, quarantine for 14 days upon return. I think it is a great recommendation. However, i dont think people will follow it. I think people at the end of the day will do what they would like to do. They will see their friends and family. Reporter this week, bay area officials warn people to rethink their holiday plans. Not gather in large groups or beyond immediate families where the virus could easily spread. I do have plans to travel to texas but im kind of reconsidering because of the issues with quarantine. Reporter hayward resident Melissa Tilton said it wouldnt be practical for her to quarantine two weeks. It makes it hard for people who have their own business an dont work from home. Reporter travel website the points guy says people itching to get away may find it hard to resist cheap holiday deals. A lot of californians are doing the right thing in general. A lot of people have canceled thanksgiving plans. But theres a lot of coronavirus fatigue. And people are not always wearing a mask like they should even though we are in the middle of a surge that is potentially worse. Reporter the state says cases are rising 20 faster than they were toward the beginning of the pandemic. Consider staying close to home. Staying at home. Staying with their household. Experiencing loved ones virtually. Reporter if you do decide to travel, keep in mind that airplanes themselves are less risky than the airports. According to stanford primary care physician, stacy vlander. It is not the time to sip coffee, to eat. You can do that, you know, maybe mid flight as the air is getting filtered in the plane. But just really try to get through those busy airports, the terminals. One of president elect bidens advisers urged americans to avoid traveling over thanksgiving saying it is like pouring gasoline on a fire. New at 11 00, the high speed drone chase helps Police Arrest an Armed Robbery suspect. Detectives reviewed camera footage and were able to find the suspects car. When they went after him, the suspect ran away. So officers deployed a drone that followed the suspect until police were able to catch up to him. All right, in the forecast, since we will talk about king tides, i wanted to begin by showing you guys and everybody as home what this actually looks like. Because there is one specific spot in the bay area that is kind of like a poster child for this. That view right there. This is a low lying spot in marin. Specifically, this is just outside mill valley. You are going up 101. You get off at highway 1 like you are going to muir woods or Stinson Beach and tam valley. The place that the traffic backs up in the summer baa everybody is trying to get to the coast. It is very low lying. It is at sea level and it has direct access to the bay. When we have king tides, the water flows right into this intersection. And you can get delays. We have a coast advisory going from tomorrow morning until tuesday. Lets get over to the weather computer guys and i will show you where the areas of concern are on here. Because it pretty much extends right up into marin and all along the coast. And you will see it on a map. Look for the areas in green that show up on this pretty weather map. All right, the closeup view, not only shows us the areas to be concerned about. But i want the point out the times. Because it is not like the whole weekend will be a concern. We really want to be aware of when high tide is going the happen. And there are two times. The first one tomorrow at 10 44. If you are going to take a drive like the one we just saw off 101 into mill valley. Be aware of that. Same one monday morning at 11 30. It is not only there. You get over toward some of the lower lying spots along the peninsula as well and you are uninto issues with them. As far as the weather goes, aside from the king tides, more thanking lows tomorrow will be cold. Its the same drill we have been doing. They will not be exceptionally cold. We have had colder than this. This is kind of normal. Normal morning lows. Daytime highs will be nice. A few low 70s. Plenty of sunshine from about here south. But if you get up into the north bay, we will have a cloudy day tomorrow. And you might even get a sprinkle if you are in far northern Sonoma County. Watch what happens. There will be storm well to our north. Some of the showers try to get down to the Sonoma County line. If you look at the rainfall totals on here, it barely even gives us anything measurable. Lets look at the next chance. This is the better bet. Thats monday night. Theres a well organized cold front. Lets bring it on shore. It gets here in the middle of the day on tuesday. And then we get rain. Second half of the day, tuesday. And then, leftover showers throughout the day on wednesday. You can see theres rain on both days. But, the more noticeable rain at this point should come through the second half of tuesday. And then, scattered showers on wednesday. Rainfall totals right now will range anywhere from a tenth of an inch to half an inch. It is still a little early on the forecast models. We will get more specific on rainfall totals the next 36 hours. It will snow in the sierra too. We could pick up a foot of snow at donner pass. Things will clear out from tuesday and wednesday.
