Reporter in september, fraudsters stole all of the money he had on his b of a edd card, taking it out in cash from an atm in Southern California far away from his bay area home. 553. That is nothing compared to some people. I have seen thousands taken out, you know, where there is a dollar or 10,000, its your money, you know. Reporter its becoming an all too familiar story. 1,000. The next day 1,000. The next day 1,000. From the atm of bank of america. 1,000 was drawn four days in a row. Can you show us . Reporter we talked to more than 1,000 people who lost thousands. Who in one case, more than 11 grand, money they told us they desperately need after losing their jobs in the pandemic. It was the little bit of money i had left that i was saving, you know. Its all i have. Reporter making matters worse, the victims tell us they received letters from bank of america days after that filing saying their claim was closed because we believe the account or the claim had been the subject of fraud. After we gave their names to b of a, seven people got their money back. Theyre the lucky ones. A spokesperson for the bank tells us a closed claim means its denied. To fight that, you would have to get on the phone again, which could take hours and ask for a review. I cant believe that bank of america would not be able to handle this more effectively. Than it has done and the fact that there are 350,000 people who may be subject to this fraud . And this is big time fraud. Reporter linda sherry with consumer actions said the long hold times to file a claim with b of a is unacceptable. This is cut and dried in the sense of what the consumer is owed when this happens. The bank would be wise to create an online portal for reporting the fraud, which would give the courage the certainty that they reported this on a certain day and certain time and something to hang their hat on, basically and that would be the best way to proceed here. And its infuriating and heart breaking. And he said edd and bank of america have not been transparent with lawmakers and the consumers. And if he didnt get answers soon, he will take legislative action. Pofessional rock climber Emily Harrington scaled the 3,000 foot granite wall of Yosemites El Capitan in under 24 hours.
