Of course the senate race is as uncertain as the president ial race right now. Lets go live to capitol hill to look at where things stand when it comes to the balance of power in the senate. Democrats would need to gain four seats to gain control of the senate after a six year republican majority. If joe biden wins presidency democrats would only need three because Vice President can cast a tie breaking vote. Last, arizona seat is leaning blue. Thats not official yet. A lot of this will come down to georgia and that is not happening any time soon. Senator david perdue, the republican incumbent, may drop below 50 . He is just at 50 and that can force a january run off. By law if no candidate gets more than half, top two candidates advance to run off automatically. The other senate race in georgia is a special election contest that is already going to a run off. Those january contests could ultimately decide the balance of power in the senate. Of course we will keep our eye on the vote count. Back to you. Also keeping an eye on wall street, going live there with the president ial race and senate seats up in the air, dow is up in the green about 415 points. Investors are keeping an eye on the vote count, a split congress, democratic house, Republican Senate would limit a president s policy options. That can rattle the markets. Lets look at the latest numbers in the president ial race. Joe biden still leads in the Electorial College projections with 253 to Donald Trumps 213. As the race narrows there are six states to be called. Pennsylvania, georgia, nevada, arizona, North Carolina, alaska. We are joined live by cbs Laura Podesta in washington with more. Hi laura. Reporter hi michelle. Many of the undecided states that we are watching so closely still have ballots coming in. In pennsylvania, every vote is going to count. Cbs news projects former Vice President joe biden is presumptive winner in wisconsin but that lead is small enough that the Trump Campaign is expected to ask for a recount. We believe we will be the winners. Speaking in delaware, the former Vice President looked past the election. It will be time for us to do what we have always done as americans. To unite, to heal, to come together as a nation. In addition to arizona, nevada is also leaning toward biden. With electorial votes from the two states, he would be right at the 270 needed to win. Reporter President Trump also currently leads in North Carolina and alaska. Michelle, we are waiting for more Election Results to be coming down later this morning in all of these undecided races, especially we are waiting for a press conference out of georgia where the race we have heard as narrowed to just 18,500 votes. Thats President Trumps current lead in georgia. There are a little less than 90,000 votes still being counted. These very narrow margins are amazing. We know President Trump says he will sue several states asking for a recount in others. Does he have any basis to his claims . Reporter recounts are very possible and allowed especially in places like wisconsin. There was recount in wisconsin and two other states in 2016 you will remember. Of course that did not change the overall outcome. But the legal battles, the lawsuits are more vague. We know that the president in georgia and pennsylvania is suing. Thats where he holds a small lead and wants to stop the count there. In states like nevada and arizona where he is trying to catch up to former Vice President joe biden who is leading in those states, there are no lawsuits filed. So we will see how the court, how legal scholars, how they will view these polar reactions depending on how the president is doing in these states. We should mention that the votes that are being counted are legal votes. Theyre ones that were post marked on or before election day. Laura podesta, thank you so much.
