One voter we spoke to shared what motivated him to vote in person on election day. I believe there are people in this world that wish that they could. And there are those that walk hundreds of miles in order to cast a vote. I believe doing it in person, for me, is a personal mission. Spoke with a good amount of voters in alameda, as well as richmond. And the santa clara registrar had people lined up for the doors opened. The Alameda County registrar is coming up with creative ways to get people to the polls. As you can see we are using tongs to grab the ballots and we had back the i voted sticker. Election officials in the south bay estimate 85 to 95 total turnout by the time polling places close. Kpix 5 reporter Andrea Nakano is at the coliseum. Reporter no crazy, long lines to report. We are at the coliseum and have in here all afternoon. You can get a lot of things accomplished on election day. If you go to the back there is an area to get your flu shot. And you can get your covid19 test. This part of the parking lot is mainly for the voting. At this tent they will take your ballot. You can register today. You can cast your ballot and you can go and vote. Can also drop off your ballot. There is a drivethru area. You can drive up and drop off your ballot. Even if you do not want to drive through you can park here in a poll worker will come and take your ballot. We saw a caravan of cars come through and is the most activity we have seen today. It is been fairly quiet. That is expected to stay open until 8 00 pm. Even if you are not registered you can register to vote and cast a ballot. There are many issues in oakland that are on the ballot. There are several measures and five City Council Seats are up for boards and the school board. A spotlight on the National Race in the vote for the president there are a lot of local issues that are of importance. Voter turn out across the area is on pace to hit historic levels. According to new data, 56 of registered voters in Santa Clara County voted early, surpassing those in the state and the nation Sonoma County voter turn out is 69. 7 . San mateo county, 65 . Reporter finding people to work as poll workers is like trying to get people to sit on a jury. In marin county in this election, it is not the case. They are the back bone of polling places, like the nurses in the hospital. They just get things done. We were really concerned originally about getting enough poll workers for this election because of covid19. We had probably over 1000 applicants. Reporter so many, that some were turned away. And then the marin in person voting is not what they predicted. This election, the traffic is light it is surprising how by the traffic is here. Polling places are running very smoothly. Reporter mailin ballots, absentee boxes will all have an effect of the workload. Students are also helping. Yesterday, i meant did not know how to speak english. And i found someone who could speak english. And i helped with that. Reporter poll workers do with all kinds of people. Davda be able to deal with the public.
