We will warm up as we look to the weekend. Details on that are coming up. Gianna is tracking a crash on the bay bridge. I am. Thankfully it is a minor fender bender. A couple cars got tangled up. It looks like it is being pushed off the bridge. It is not causing a lot of delays though it is early and it is friday. We see less cars on the roadways on friday. It should be a good pace even with that trouble spot. Traffic is quiet as you head towards the pay gates. Chp is working on a crash, cesar chavez on ramp, we have a motorcycle accident that has that shut down until further notice. Main lines of 101 though are not affected. I am anne makovec. We are keeping an eye on an investigation about to commence in the south bay into this fire in san jose yesterday. Search teams are going to be going into an under ground utility facility where this erupted yesterday to try to find out how this fire started and assess the extent of the damage, flames shooting from the median at the height of the afternoon rush. You can see that slowed traffic along highway 101. Firefighters initially thought it was being fed by natural gas so they let it burn until pge got there. It turns out there was a gas line that was not damaged. The fuel was debris in an under ground drainage system. Again, there is still damage to the utility facility. We are going to find out exactly what was damaged yesterday coming up. City Officials Say the drainage systems, sometimes people use them for shelter. Thats going to be part of the investigation. Back to you. To the coronavirus, u. S. Has again broken a grim record. More than 88,000 new covid19 cases reported yesterday, the most new infections in a single day since the pandemic began. We can spend a lot of time lamenting what may have caused that, whether it is change in weather, back to school, high school and college sports, whether it is pandemic fatigue. Whatever it is, we need to continue to deal with it. Deaths from the virus are still high and cdc says another 28,000 people can die before thanksgiving. San francisco is leading the charge in containing the coronavirus. The city is reporting the lowest death rate of any major u. S. City. Overall, bay area has been doing better than most places. One reason, county Health Officials implemented restrictions earlier than most others. Bay Area Companies were quick to transition to a work from home model. In solano, Health Experts are urging people to get their flu shots. The county is reporting the first patient with the flu and covid19. We have learned the patient is under the age of 65 and is in fairly good health. This person works in the healthcare sector. Experts believe the coinfection happened because the patient didnt follow proper social distancing guidelines. This person to the best of our knowledge did not acquire it in the workplace. They did what so many other people all over the country are doing. They get together with family and friends and let their guard down. According to the doctor, that is how more than 90 of covid infections are occurring in solano pushing the county to the brink of the purple tier for widespread risk. Solano is expected to know by next tuesday if it will fall out of red tier and back into purple. Getting a flu shot is more important than ever during the coronavirus pandemic especially for people over 65 as they are at higher risk for serious complications from both viruses. Doctors are recommending seniors get the high dose flu vaccine as it has four times more antigen. As we age, our bodies have a bit more difficulty making that antibody response to regular dose vaccine. If we expose people who are over age 65 to a higher dose of the antigen, theyre more likely to make a more robust response. If you have not had the flu shot, now is the time. Cdc recommends getting the vaccine by the end of october. It can take up to two weeks for the body to develop the antibodies for protection. Two more Staff Members at a hospital in sonoma have tested positive for coronavirus. It brings the total to 14. According to press democrat the first worker contracted the virus in late september, two weeks earlier than hospital officials had announced. Today, nearly a dos pastors joining forces to condemn actions of the governor and fines and threat of jail time against a san jose pastor.
