We start with thousands of customers across the bay area without power right now. We take a live look toward the Oakland Hills. Here is a look at the power outage map. The areas marked in purple have power safety shutoffs right now. We have you covered with complete Team Coverage. We begin with the weather team. The red flag warning is in effect across the entire bay area through tomorrow morning at 11 00. Parts of the bay area, Higher Elevations will be under the red flag warning until tuesday evening. Low humidity and gusty wind through the rest of the night. For the Higher Elevations wind gusts potentially over 70 Miles Per Hour. Even the lower elevations and the valleys and along the coast have 2030 Miles Per Hour. That is part of why we have a wind advisory in effect through 11 00 tomorrow morning. Power outages will be possible outside of the regular areas. The humidity level has dropped to the Single Digits for much of the north bay. For the city, the relative humidity downtown dropped from 77 to 20 in an hour. The dry air has been making his way in from the north. Oakland at 31 miles sustained wind. 30 Miles Per Hour in fairfield. These are sustained winds the gusts are higher as we go up in elevation. We will take a look at some of the highest gusts reported so far and we will look at future cast and how those gusts will evolve to the rest of the night along with the humidity producing the high fire danger. In fact as the winds race into the bay area from the east, as they hit the ridges of the mountains, they get forced downhill with more momentum. They speed up and they become more troublesome. The theme on this is, if you are on the west side of a mountain rage, anywhere in the bay area, we are looking at east bay hills, you are of a higher level of concern because the wind will be gusting stronger. There is montclair. We will be reporting live from there in a moment. To point out some of the trouble spots. We will have more on that coming up in just a moment. What they are doing, they are putting these sandwich boards at the intersections with stop signs. It stops at all four corners of the intersection. The high winds are knocking these boards over. They have the sandbags here but i wind is knocking them over and there is a Police Officer driving around every five or 10 minutes. They come back and pick it up and prop it up. Normally after the businesses have shut down, they would be lights actually inside. But you can barely make out the storefronts along the road. It is complete darkness right now. As the winds picked up the lights went out. Pg e turned off electricity in parts of the east bay hills after 8 30. And Contra Costa County the police turned on emergency lights to alert drivers of the outage at the large intersection. It is pretty dangerous. I came across on a so you guys. One resident wonders if a fire breaks out, how will she get evacuation orders and other important information. She signed up for alerts but as her cell phone reception is spotty at her house. Helena seeing 80 mile perhour gust. Mount hood at 66 Miles Per Hour. Diablo 34 Miles Per Hour. You get the idea of how fast the wind has been picking up. This is a look at the fire weather conditions. All the dots represent a different reporting station. There are 100 in red flag conditions. That is a lot. There are about 80 more yellow dots indicating close to red flag conditions. It is very dry and it will get drier. Humidity in the 510 range across most of the bay area. It may get lower than that tomorrow afternoon. It is really low. Hardly any moisture in the atmosphere. It does not recover much tomorrow night. Which is why the red flag warning will continue all the way through monday night and into tuesday. Wind speeds are going to remain as strong as they have been if not gusting stronger as we had through the rest of the night. All the purple shaded areas, those are 40 mileperhour wind gusts. That is Strong Enough that any sparked a fire that gets going, is going to be able to spread rapidly. The winds will diminished somewhat as we had through the day on monday. But they will be very gusty into monday evening. Finally relaxing a bit much of the bay area monday night. Inland, 2545 mileperhour wind gusts. On tuesday we will see the wind shifting and that will help with the humidity levels and the wind will return to more normal for this time of year. This is the turn time in the last four years we have seen a set up like this, producing extremely strong offshore winds. Just to point out how this event is extreme and the strongest wind we have seen so far this year, one look at the satellite shows you something unusual. This weather pattern covers the entire western hemisphere. In other words, the setup responsible for the wind tonight is tied into a pattern that stretches all the way to the other side of the specific. That is a very pronounced trough. A deep system out in the pacific that is pulling a lot of cold air on one side of the western hemisphere and as a result, it is causing a huge arc in the jet stream to work its way over the pacific and what goes up, must come down. If we switch this to the water vapor, look at the leading edge of this and you will see all the energy pouring out of canada and getting directed just off to the east. That is what is driving all of this. If we look at colorado, they will get two feet of snow out of the system. If you remember Early September , denver saw a pretty good snowstorm. It made national headlines. Right after that happened we had two significant fires broke out in the sierra because they are connected. Two feet of snow for the Colorado Rockies tonight and tomorrow and all that cold air forces all of the wind to get pushed our way and they start streaming over the sierra and the coast range. This is a bigger event tonight in the sierra nevada. There are higher concerns they are then in the bay area. But we have been doing all of our focusing at home. It is quiet in the present situation.
