Most noticeably at the coast, thats where we feel the biggest drop in temperatures today. If you are inland you may not notice a whole lot of difference maybe a couple of degrees cooler but not enough to make a significant change. If we look outside now, the numbers have a sitting right around the upper 50s for most locations although our cold spot in santa rosa at 49 and a look ahead to the rest of today. That number inland, 94 degrees for the daytime high, that is still coming in about 15 to 16 degrees above average for this time of year but it does pull us back a couple of degrees from where we were yesterday. Look at the bay, 82. We were sitting in the low 90s for much of the bay yesterday. So that will be an improvement that you will field and to show you what the detail highs look like across the bay area in general, low 90s for places like concord and livermore. 89, santa rosa. 81 in oakland. That number yesterday was 93, we are done doing 90s in the city. Ill sue you with the rest of the forecast in a few minutes. Reporter it was a full house at the epic steak and water bar. Diners took interviews of the bridge on a balmy San Francisco night. Others chose to eat at tables indoors. And the kitchens were buzzing with activity. Its been so warm, when is it ever like this . We take advantage of it. The measures the city is taking to enable street dieting and having the spaces set up with tables has made it much easier. The weather is obviously a huge plus. Reporter a high of 93 degrees tied for the second warmest temperature recorded this late in the year. We are probably 40 to 50 of what we were last year. Plus the east bay fire station, weighing options, why they are looking to dissolve their department. Taking a live look outside, we will be disneyland employees have had enough, they are calling on the governor to reopen the happiest place on earth. Those employees have been out of work for seven months now ever since the shutdown orders and this weekend some employees and disney fans moderate at the theme park demanding that it reopen. I think i got so frustrated seeing my friends that ive worked with, and they are getting laid off. They spent their entire lives investing in this company. Right now theres no clear timeline on when californias Amusement Park will reopen. Yesterday here in the city of San Francisco we made it into the 90s for a third day in a row in the month of october, thats not a record but the daytime high was. 93 degrees, broke the record for yesterday but that was not the only record that was at least within reach. Something else, yesterday, that 93 was the second latest we have ever been this warm in other words, you want to fight another day going back to the climate records that was warmer than yesterday this time of year theres only one of them, and that was 94 degrees on october 27, of 2003. Its been pretty hot. And we are done doing 90s now for San Francisco, the way we are going to look at this is to compare how we are going to cool down for san jose and how he will cool down for San Francisco. Yesterdays numbers are right here, san jose is the orange 95, San Francisco is the yellow 93. Very little difference between those two but when it comes to calling back down, theres a big difference, we will look at san jose first which will go from 95 yesterday to 89 today. Back down to 81 on monday. The averages are more like you know, 76, 77 for this time of year. You are going to cool back down to the low 80s however we put San Francisco on you see a much more dramatic improvement. From 93 yesterday to 75 today. Thats a huge change and it will only be 70 for the daytime high on monday and if we look at the city, we dont have any marine layer in the bay but we will see some of that return. That gets us ahead to 6 00 in the evening. A little bit of the clouds coming back and by monday morning, we have woken up to at least some of the marine layer coming into the immediate. Thats a good sign for a cooldown, that will last. More sunshine than anything else on monday but at least it shows us the onshore flow is turning back on and the temperatures will come back down. Not just in the city in the immediate bay but everywhere. Lets see how everybody will do today. We dont notice a huge difference if you are inland on sunday. So theres the 89 for san jose, sunnyvale, 85, redwood city, 85. Its still low 90s here for places like concord, livermore, walnut creek, pleasanton, dublin, a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday but not enough to notice a significant change just yet. Santa rosa, 88. 81, oakland, San Francisco, 75 today, and as we get up into the far north bay you can see the numbers right around 90. So looking ahead in the seven day forecast, while we are going to cool down a bit more on monday, we are going to warm up a bit for tuesday and wednesday. And when i mentioned at the top of the newscast we could see fire weather concerns come back this week, its tuesday night into wednesday at this point, for another brush with offshore winds, it doesnt look too terribly intense, but its still well above average, we are still very dry. You dont need strong offshore winds with things as dry as they are so we have to watch that for wednesday. But look at the cool down by the time we get to next weekend. Daytime highs will go back down to average which is upper to mid seven days. I like where friday is, the stuff that precedes it, still a little too hot for my liking. If its any consolation, its all better than yesterday, so yesterday was the hottest and it gets better from there. It felt like an oven yesterday. Thank you. During the recession in 2009 the Fire District in east, begin showering shuttering fire stations. They were left with three. As john ramose reports, the district is now considering drastic action. Reporter this community outside of oakley is served by the east contra costa Fire District. And the board is so concerned with how long it takes firefighters to get here that they are considering voting themselves out of existence to change that. From the time a call goes out, firefighters get ready to roll in about a minute and a half. The rest of the Response Time is driving to the incident. We should be no less within four minutes of response to any point in the area. And we are generally pushing anywhere between 8 to 10 minutes at this point. Reporter thats a constant problem for People Living in the remote summer lakes development. They actually have a new fire station provided by the developer, but east contra costa fire has never had the money to staff it. We have a large Retirement Community out here, and like i say, if someone has a heart attack or a medical emergency, 10 minutes could be forever for someone. Reporter the fire station only has three stations to serve 250 square miles and more than a quarter of 1 million residents, so now the Fire District board has begun looking into the possibility of dissolving itself and consolidating the existing resources into the countys larger on Fire District. Right now there are more questions than answers about what that proposal might do. If we do consolidate with the money we only have, does that mean we can open up additional stations . Can we actually put more firefighters on the street any given day of the week . Reporter thats what it independent evaluator will be assessing. Its hard to get new taxes passed in the area and the district is wondering if it joins the county, if they can finally benefit from tax measures approved by voters countywide. If these local initiatives come about, what does that mean for the district . Does that mean we have sustainable reoccurring funds that we can count on to be able to increase those level of services . That is what we are trying to evaluate right now. Reporter of course this is a twoway street and the county would have to approve it as well, and no one is sure they be willing to take responsibility for that much territory, when many residents dont seem willing to pay anything extra to support it. And currently contra costa stands to benefit from two ballots, but because the east Contra Costa County is a special district, its not going to get any more of that money even if they do pass. Coming up, the brutal crash at nascar, how did the driver managed to walk away . Nfl week six, what am i talking about . It is baseball, we are down to the nittygritty. A grab like that i mean, come on. To the ninth, pablo sandoval, represented the braves last chance, and the big fellow, like this one on out. The dodgers won 31, the series got even at 3 apiece. If you are in the city and especially the coast. We are not going to do mid90s in San Francisco again like we did yesterday. But if you are inland, dont expect a whole lot of change just yet. It will be a couple of degrees cooler today but i dont think enough that you really notice and i have to say, that weve got mild fire weather concerns coming back for this upcoming week. It doesnt look terrible but middle of the week, offshore winds, very dry conditions, more on that in a bit. Here sunday, the 94 inland, technically is cooler than yesterday but not enough. Itll be 71 at the coast again. Thats 5 to 6 degrees cooler than yesterday. And just to show you how we all do specifically, a wide overview on daytime highs across the bay. 91, concord and livermore. 81 oakland. 75 in San Francisco. Both the president and biden will face off in the final debate on thursday in nashville, tennessee. Magic johnson was in michigan just one day after joe biden, he was campaigning for biden and Kamala Harris, holding a roundtable with a group of black men. Theres too many millions of people who are out of work right now, because we didnt react to covid19, we didnt react to the pandemic thats going on right now, we didnt have a plan, we didnt have a strategy to deal with it but joe biden has a plan Kamala Harris has a plan, and them coming together they are going to really represent all the people around, not just the United States but our allies will come back to us. Reporter voting early in record numbers, and 45 states, nbc, more than 22 million ballots had been cast so far. What we are doing, standing and letting your voice be heard, thats important. Experts say the latest ballot data shows there are a lot more people voting early than ever before. And democrats are voting early at a much higher level, than republicans. That detailed voting information comes from catalyst, a data company that fights Data Analytics and other services to democratics, and advocate associations. The sun is coming up in just about 40 minutes from now, right around 7 20 but we are already getting that real pretty light in the sky. This will not be as hot of the day, at least not in that view, as it was yesterday. Low to mid 90s in the city from this view yesterday. Third day in a row, and the 90s. That is done. Today, daytime highs in the city will be back into the 70s. But we are not all going to cool down that dramatically. Unfortunately it will take a little longer, the further inland you are you may not notice a whole lot of change today. I will show you how that will come together, first theres the view from the top of the sales force tower, really pretty light out there. 58 in concord, 59 in oakland, livermore, 56 right now, look at santa rosa, so typical, 10 degrees cooler than other locations. You get into the shelter valley, up in wine country, and you will experience colder mornings, and you know that well. Lets talk about how we start this cooldown, first way to do it is to visualize the onshore flow, watch what happens today. I will play us into the afternoon and watch the colors like this going there. That gets us all the way into the evening but look at the streamlines and the brighter the color, the stronger the wind. Thats how we pull the cooler air back and we also get more humidity when we do this. And even though it looks good inland, its not until monday that is finally has an impact on bringing the temperatures down, at least noticeably, if you are far inland and you can see what happens with the marine layer, you see a little bit develop pack along the immediate coastline, by late this afternoon, early evening, then monday morning we will see it get pulled into the golden gate, thats a good sign, too, but this really just tells us about monday and tuesday. Those two days you will see in the sevenday forecast, the numbers arent going to come down but they are going to write back up again as we get into wednesday and thats when we start to get back into fire weather concerns. More on that in the 70. First, your cynic, daytime highs in the south bay, a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday. 89, san jose, itll still feel warm. Thats a good 12 to 15 degrees above average for many of the spots. 82 in union city today, hayward, 85, we will go to 92 in pleasantville, danville will also go to 92, livermore, 91, so is concord, vallejo, we will get you into the 80s. Oakland, 81, noticeably cooler. San francisco, 75, 93 yesterday. 88 in nevada, 88 in santa rosa, and the numbers up top have us coming back up into the low 90s. And to show you how different the cooldown is, over the next few days, it was 95 in san jose yesterday, 93 in the disco, pretty similar, san jose, cooldown looks good, get you back down to the low 80s but of course, San Francisco really outdoes you, thanks to that more direct influence. And watch what happens to the colors on this map right there, telltale sign, see the streamlines, look at that. Thats wednesday afternoon. This is when we start to see a little bit more of an offshore wind event come back. So when we look at the seven day forecast, youre going to see that the temperatures go up, as we get to wednesday, but now we also know along with the increase in numbers for tuesday and wednesday, theres going to be a little bit more of an offshore wind event. So until we get widespread rain, its too dry out there, and you dont really need much offshore wind to raise fire weather concerns. It looks good though, by next weekend we will get the temperatures back to the mid and upper 70s for inland spots by then. I heard dangerous wind, do you think it will be Strong Enough that is going to trigger shutoffs . Thats a tough call. The winds, really arent going to be that strong with that one, devin, the real concern is, its so dry, pg e may have to evaluate that in consideration with what they need to do for those Public Safety power shutoffs, and thats always going to be there, its a tough call. A lot of factors go into that. Thank you. The changes coming to californias boating rules starting in january. Anyone under 40 must have a certificate called a boater card.
