This year in the form of prop 21. Proposition 21 gives cities the ability to expand rent control. It would apply to housing that is more than 15 years old. It can also be applied to singlefamily homes or condos if the owner has more than two properties. It would also limit rent increases when a new renter moves in. Proposition 21 is a referendum on a 1995 law that drastically limits each citys ability to enact rent control. Voters had the option to make changes back in 2018 with proposition 10 that did not pass. This is a president ial year, right. We know the electorate would be several million voters larger than it was in 2018. It will be a more represented example of the state of california. The Campaign Director says it will be different this time and that covid is making people more aware of tenants living on the edge.
