Looking at 62 in San Francisco, 68 in oakland, 75 in san jose and 81 for concord. Many locations dipping down to below average for this time of year. Very close to where we should be for this time of year for concord as we head through our afternoon. Our air quality forecast looking good for most of the bay area. Unhealthy air for portions of the north bay closer to the class fire. We will talk more about a weather system and if it could bring some much needed rainfall back to the bay area in just a few minutes. Lets check in with traffic. Hey. Good morning. As we hit the roadways so far so good. We are not really seeing any delays on any of the bridges. Here is a live look at the Golden Gate Bridge. Traffic is moving nicely with an easy ride out of marin. Not seeing any brake lights just north of there. We will have to check if there is any cal trans work. Traffic i can is in the green. Developing in solano, vallejo city leaders declared a Public Safety emergency due to record high crime rates. Not everybody believes declaring an emergency will do anything to address the problem. City manager revealed a proposal to declare a Public Safety emergency after what city police say is a 300 increase in crime since the pandemic started. There have been 22 homicides compared to nine at this time last year and a total of 358 shooting victims. At this time we have a current crisis. We need executive commanders that can help me to lead the reforms. The chief said this team will be made up of an assistant chief and captains who will provide the citys crime data to state officials but the council to vallejos Police Officers association said the team will take dollars away from the streets. This is a manufactured emergency. Crime is at a high level in the city of vallejo but the action that they are taking has nothing to do with Public Safety. Some residents are now sharing concerns about how a state of emergency will give unprecedented powers to the city to get around local laws and regulations to fight crime. Update on a brutal attack in the tenderlo in. The son of an elderly victim is speaking out. The images are hard to look at. He shared these photographs of his 71yearold mothers injuries after a man knocked her unconscious in an unprovoked attack. She is now recovering at home. The attackers motive is unclaire. The family said they have been aware of attacks happening across the country during the pandemic. Hearing all the other stories around San Francisco and other people that are afraid. Police have arrested a 34 yearold michael turner, seen here. A week before this latest attack he assaulted another elderly woman on tuck street. Turner is facing charges of assault and elder abuse. Happening today more than 3,000 nurses in alameda are planning to go on strike. They are siting unfair labor practices and safety concerns at 3 hospitals. Nurses are planning rallies and vigils during the five day strike. They are calling on the county to step in and take over the system which is currently controlled b the board of trustees. The California Nurses Association which represents san leandro and Alameda Hospital nurses said in part management as put nurses and patients at risk by violating the current contract by deciding to cut emergency room staff in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. Ahs responded saying a strike is unnecessary, harmful to our community and does nothing to ensure that we provide the best care possible to all especially the homeless and under served who have few choices if any. The strike is expected to last until monday. This morning most of the bay area remains in the red meaning a substantial amount of coronavirus cases. This after the state released its updated tier map. Four counties do not meet the states new equity measure. They have particularly high cases in disadvantaged neighborhoods. For bay area businesses to continue reopening, the state is now requiring an quity metric. Each county has to make sure the test rate in at risk areas are lowering. We failed these communities. We need to get better. About time we are putting in eqity tool that are going to have teeth and ensure that the under served communities have priorities. San franciscos Latino Task Force said the new metric is working as designed to direct resources to black and brown communities which are affected by coronavirus. Meanwhile this morning californias First Progress report on in Person Education is promising. We have not seen a connection between increased transmission and School Reopening or in person learning. So far 28 counties have resumed some form of in Person Education and others are formulating plans but one parent whose children are teachers, told us he wants to see more data before drawing his own conclusions.
