The games are being played in the Orlando Bubble with no fans and artificial crowd noise. Where is that noise coming from . Lakers on the move, five straight denver misses. Reporter high stakes drama. Buzzer beaters. Heres davis for the win. Reporter the crowd goes wild. Davis has won it for the lakers reporter or does it . From the sound of it, you might forget that this years nba playoffs are unfolding in a fanfree arena. Thanks in large part to mark ditmar and fire House Productions. Were taking human voices and trying to make it sound like an actual crowd in an 18,000 seat arena. And theyre reacting to everything thats going on. Correct. Reporter it was almost impossible to imagine when the nba suspended its season in march. The leagues biggest star, lebron james said it would never happen . Play games without the fans . Its impossible. I aint playing. Mark ditmar heard lebron loud and clear. Its a giant bummer. I woke up with the crazy idea of what if he didnt know there were not fans. The man in charge of live presentation was wondering the same thing. We want to create the environment the players are used to, knowing that if the players feel comfortable, theyll play better. The start of the idea was putting a multichannel sound system around the court. Reporter it feeds into ten large clusters of speakers all facing the court. They spent weeks building an Audio Library with layer of sounds. And a system to deliver them. Theyre launch pads with buttons and each vertical row is a set of information. So, murmur might be one row, 18. The game director is talking to them some, narrating the story, but they are somewhere between playing a video game, playing a musical instrument. Reporter nathan alers lets hear a base murmur. Reporter joined us from the Orlando Bubble to show us how it works. You have eight additional audience levels, basic audience pregame kind of level, that being level one. Level eight being basically everybody in an arena on their feet cheering, clapping. And really kind of scale up the sound and scale it back down. They first demoed the technology for myers at a gym near fire House Productions in new yorks hudson valley. Had the speakers set up and everything. And as they started layering the sounds, you got the feeling you were in a building with 17,000 people. And at that moment i knew it would work. Reporter down in orlando, each game was an opportunity to improve. The more practice those guys have in doing games, the better they get at it. Theres a lot of nuance to basketball so, you have to learn certain situations. And they have really learned how to sweeten those situations to sound extremely natural. We layer multiple reactions based on what may happen. Air ball air ball lets go build it up and lets go really big. Thats relatively close to the level we were at when he hit the threepoint in overtime the other night. Pulls up, threepointer, bang, bang its good if you just listen to the crowd, it certainly sounds fake. You can hear that it is synthetic. You get the basketball bouncing up and down and the players and all that. Now its so far down in your brain that it sounds completely realistic. Hammers it home it even surprises Toronto Raptors coach nick nurse. It doesnt feel that much different. I know thats kind of hard to believe, but it really doesnt. The refs asked early on if we were going to have ref, you suck, and things like that. And one team came forward and said, our fans boo. We want booing. And the nba took those specialty sounds a few steps further. Adding ones associated with each teams home arena like in miami. The p. A. Announcer, when theres two minutes left in the quarter, he says two minutes, dos minutos, so we got him to record that, send that to us, and when that happens when theres two minutes left in any quarter, we play it. Thats right. They even added fans. I think the players get a little bit of energy from looking up in the stands and seeing not on the stands, but on the screens and seeing fans there live. Reporter do you have those moments where you pinch yourself and youre like can you believe we created this . Yeah, it happens all the time. Im tom hanson in new york, thanks for joining us. President trump is back at the white house this morning after three days of aggressive treatment for coronavirus at the walter reed medical center. The president s doctors insist his condition continues to improve, that he has no fever and his breathing fine. But they added he is not entirely out of the woods. The president tweeted that he feels better than he did 20 years ago, and he added dont be afraid of covid, dont let it dominate your life. We are still not entirely sure how sick the president was when he arrived at the hospital or whether he had pneumonia. We do know hes been receiving a steroid thats usually reserved for the most serious cases. The president s treatment will now continue in the white house, which is equipped with an intensive care unit, but the white house itself is in the grips of a covid outbreak. Press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany has tested positive, along with two of her assistants. At least 19 people close to the president have been infected, including the first lady. The president left the hospitl around 6 30 yesterday evening in what appeared to be a made for tv event. Nora mcdonnell had the coverage. You see the president of the United States flanked by his secret Service Agents walking to a motorcade his suv. How many of your staff are sick . Do you think you might be a super spreader, mr. President . Reporter the president not wearing a cloth mask but wearing a surgical mask. Today giving a thumbs up to the members of the white house travel pool. I want to bring back in ben tracey at the white house. And ben, is there any indication that we may hear from the president of the United States tonight . Reporter you heard some of the questions being lobbed at the president there. They werent so much how are you feeling. I think i heard somebody say, do you think youre part of a superspreader event, or something along those lines. So, the president might want to give it a few days before he does come out and talk. But well see. I think this were in unchartered territory to have a president come back to the white house and have to quarantine or isolate himself if hes going to follow the cdc guidelines. Right. So, we very well may not see President Trump in person for a while, but my guess is we will hear from him on some of his favorite channels he likes to call into. The president s medical team assured the country today that this is a medically appropriate day for him to return to the white house. The time was largely up to the president and it is no coincidence that it is happening in a news dominant time on the east coast, 6 30, network news broadcasts, ours and others timed almost to the minute. To be saying that is to also be aware, as i very much am having covered this campaign back in 2016, that whenever the Trump Campaign can position itself between the media and its supporters, it will do so. I choose my words cautiously, but it is a fact this is time to dominate the news cycle on network news, to put the president and this, as i said, emerging republican theme of y triumphing over covid19 in the maximalist video position. But its unclear how this president will try to prepare for the second debate because inperson debate prep is going to be ruled out. Do you do that by zoom . In person briefings are going to be discouraged initially, so that means a lot of paper, telephone, maybe video. Is it in the residence . What part of the white house might he go to . All these things right now are very much up in the air. But at this hour with that walk and the thumbs up, the president is trying to convey not only a sense of strength, but ive got the upper hand on this. His doctors know that the next three or four days, as they said today, still have some measure of caution that must be taken. The doctors said themselves today they will not breathe a sigh of relief until a week from today, norah. As the president lands, he will actually be flying over what is essentially a communal mourning for the nearly 210,000 victims of coronavirus, the covid19 survivors have set up 20,000 empty chairs right there by the white house. It will be quite a site to see from above. We can hear the helicopter marine one landing at the white house. The display you mentioned the president is literally flying over that right now. Its on the ellipse just outside the white house. I did see it this weekend and its very striking. I want you to describe because we talked about this outbreak at the white house, the 19 individuals and now the White House Press secretary Kayleigh Mcenany. She was briefing reporters without a mask over the weekend. Does that mean that has led to a number of staff and other reporters to now have to quarantine . Certainly some reporters are doing that. Even people in our own team are having to quarantine because of their proximity to Kayleigh Mcenany over the last couple of days. I think its interesting to see if the white house staff follows the guidelines and quarantines. We saw one of the White House Press officials at the white house working and that person would have had contact with Kayleigh Mcenany. They all work in a very small spats here in the white house in the west wing. Thank you. We want to bring in Major Garrett on that note, not only the president and the first lady, the President Campaign manager, the president s Top Communications adviser, the president s press secretary, the president s former secretary kellyanne conway, the khris goes on, the head of the rnc. The list goes on and on and to ben traceys excellent point of immediate concern within the white house about mark meadows and Jared Kushner and Ivanka Kushner because all three of them are important advisers to this skppt all are part of this larger venn diagram of people within the west wing who have interacted with the president and who have now tested positive. As ben tracey said, mark meadows tested negative this morning, but as Kayleigh Mcenany learned today, you can test negative for several days in a row and then test positive because of the transmisbility and how long it takes for the virus to become detectable within your body. So, there is a concern this week that even as the president returns and there is a dimension of triumph antism about that, that other parts of the story could become problematic if mark meadows, Ivanka Kushner and Jared Kushner test positive as well. Thats the shot the president wants for the front page of the newspapers. Thats the shot the president wants. Thats perfectly timed as someone experienced on network television. Coming up on 7 00 eastern time, fully filling the allotted half hour for network news. That, again, is not a criticism. It is just an observation, and it is an acknowledgment of this president s unique sense of this media, of the presidency within it and his ability and his willingness and his desire to project strength and confidence. Four weeks from today, the American People will cast their ballots in a president ial race like none other in our history. According to an average of national polls, former Vice President joe biden has a 9 point lead over President Trump, who continues to battle covid19. Polls in key battleground states are much tighter. In pennsylvania, biden leads the president by 7 points, 5144 . That survey was taken after last weeks debate but before mr. Trump was hospitalized. The poll also shows covid19 is a major factor for twothirds of voters in that state, which President Trump narrowly won in 2016. Nikki battiste has been talking to voters. Reporter this is a swing county in a swing state which voted for barack obama in 2012 but flipped for donald trump in 2016. Based on what voters told us over the weekend, this years election outcome may be razor thin once again. Even on the sidelines of Little League soccer, the president s health was on voters minds, including trump supporter and teacher nicolas. Our National Defense depends on him, his health and the people around him. Reporter chris smith is the coach of his sons team, but as a firefighter, the biden supporter works overtime to rescue his familys finances after covid19 forced his wife to close her small business.
